Up until that night, everything was perfect. I’d just finished my junior year, been named one of the best college football players in the country, and had a smokin’ hot girl on my lap in the back of my buddy’s SUV on our way to a party at the cabin.
Now I’m living in my own personal hell, reliving that night, my busted-up leg a constant reminder of what I’m trying to forget. Everyone in this damn town is holding their breath to see if I’ll play again, as if that even matters anymore. My future in the pros? The money? The media attention? I don’t give a shit about any of it anymore.
All I want is to be left alone, so I’m pissed when my mom goes and hires some damn cleaning lady for the house I’ve been renting. I’m expecting some old lady and that’s who I get until one day she doesn’t show up. Instead I get a girl with a beautiful face, soulful eyes, and a body I can’t stop looking at.
Her name is Becca and she’s hot as hell but the girl asks a lot of damn questions. Questions I don’t want to answer. But when she’s gone, I miss her like you wouldn’t believe. Sometimes I’ll make the house extra messy just so she’ll stay longer. It’s pathetic, I know, but this is what I’ve become.

Book is safe.
This review is superficial to an extent but it put me off so 🤷♀️ “He grabs a condom from the nightstand and I watch as he puts it on. The rumors are true. Ethan Baxter is huge. I thought girls were just saying that when I overheard them bragging about being with him, but it's true. It's all true.”
Ew.🧐 Run. 🏃♀️ “Ethan," she breathes, her head tipping back. Soft moans follow. I love the sounds she makes. Other girls yell and scream, which I guess isn't bad, but I get more turned on with the sounds Becca makes. Or maybe it's just her that turns me on.”
Shiver me timbers 🤭. Run 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️ “I've never been with someone as experienced as Ethan,”
Me: 🤮 Run 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️ “And I have no shortage of ideas. I've been with a lot of girls and I'm not a selfish lover. Over the years, I've paid attention and learned what girls like. But doing those things to Becca turns me on more than any other girl I've been with.”
I liked this book but it wasn't my favorite. It was good don't get me wrong, just something was missing to push it over the edge to wonderful. It wasn't special it was just another romance novel. I liked the story about this guy who thinks he has everything and the reality of losing it all to find what really is important. I think it was just a storyline that has been done a lot before in books and movies. I didn't necessarily think I fell completely for the couple together. They didn't have a spark that I felt was undeniable. Sometimes you find a book and you just can feel that chemistry and love from the beginning and you don't really get that in this book. It just really needed more for me. I wanted to love it because I adore just about everything she writes. But this one was just more mediocre for me personally. I did however think she handled his struggle with grief and guilt extremely well. It isn't all flowers and rainbows and she really showed that. Being open and honest about yourself is so hard and exposing and she showed that so beautifully in this book.
Loved, loved, loved Ethan & Becca!!! As expected because Allie Everhart never disappoints and has a way of you getting so involved in her stories.
Ethan is the star quarterback of his college entering into his senior year and potential first round draft pick. He had everything going for him and nothing to worry about since he's also from a rich family. Until one night everything changes and he loses three friend in a car accident in which he was the only survivor. He lives with the guilt and nightmares and his pushed everyone away and doesn't leave his house. He's completely sad and lonely until he meets Becca.
Becca put her college career on hold and works two jobs to help out her older brother Mike. She has no time for relationships. Until she showed up to clean Ethan's home. Ethan thought she was ridiculously gorgeous and she thought the same thing of him. She cleaned his house and realized that he's lonely and tried to be his friend. Ethan tried shutting her out but realized that with this total stranger he can be himself.
Things started very slowly with these two but then developed into more. They both confided in each other with things they've never told other people but Ethan was still not letting her completely in.
They were both similar in so many ways. Becca & her brother were abandoned by their mom when she was 13 and Ethan's parents are rich and only care about themselves. I was waiting several times to see how the author was going to kill Ethan's dad but sadly I didn't get that wish, lol.
Ethan and Becca relationship was so passionate, emotional all wrapped up in one. Becca brought out the best in Ethan and Ethan loved how genuine and sincere Becca is. He never once cared that they came from completely different backgrounds.
This story had some real emotional parts that would just have you like wow; serious issues that sadly lots of people probably go thru but refuse help or speak to anyone.
There was a small hiccup in the story but it was resolved right away but they still had lots of work. Loved Becca's brother and I loved the ending. I hope we see more of this couple because I think there story isn't over.
I voluntarily accepted an advanced reader copy of this book from the author and I'm glad I did.
When tragedy strikes Ethan is unable to play football, he falls into a depression and when his mom hires a cleaning lady to show up to clean up the place beautiful Becca shows up in place. He’s instantly attracted to her. Sparks fly between them but he’s having trouble with guilt and their relationship struggles. They eventually manage to work past their problems and move on. This is a heartbreaking romance you’ll hear topics like military ptsd and normal ptsd. death of a parent, death of friends. I do wish the book didn’t cut off so abruptly I felt like we were just getting to experience their relationship when it was healed and then it was suddenly over, but other than that I really enjoyed the book.
I love Allie Everhart! I read the entire Jaded series which is amazing. I have to say that I got annoyed with the back and forth through the entire book. I wanted to grab Ethan by the face and say “SPIT IT OUT ALREADY”. Than we have Becca sounding like a five year old when she doesn’t get what she wants. So to Becca I say “JUST LET IT GO”. I liked the book because Allie’s writing is awesome but unfortunately the characters got on my nerves so I couldn’t love it.
I thought this book was a bit repetitive, though the author did a good job of capturing the emotions of a new relationship. I was uncomfortable with some of the hero/heroine interactions, which I felt bordered on emotional blackmail. The two voices were distinct and believable. This book handled a serious topic (PTSD) sensitively. Worth the read and I'm interested in her series books now.
I really liked the book characters were well developed loved the angst.Author done a great job dealing with the PTSD the only reason the book is not getting 5* is the abrupt ending.Author really should right a novella to tie up ALL the loose ends or the very least an epilogue.
What a great story! I thought this book was entertaining all the way through. I loved Ethan & Becca’s relationship. Hot, sweet, but not without conflict. Ethan went through a a very traumatic experience that could have ruined him, but with Becca’s help, he managed to get through it.
I enjoyed this book. I bought it 6 years ago but for some reason didn’t read it until now. It was a good story about the survivors’ guilt. Becca has her love trauma because of her mother and that makes her afraid to get hurt and she doesn’t want to give her heart to anyone. Ethan is a wealthy athlete star and his future is already written until one fateful night everything changed.
Loved this book. It was a book with struggles to over come. The author did a great job showing the characters emotions and struggles. But the end for Holding On was the best. Made me super happy with a nice surprise throne into it.
Love this book. I really hope there will be a second book after this one. It will have you laughing, crying, mad, and furious. BUT I absolutely loved every bit of it.
Allie's stories are always a treat. Holding On is no exception. Becca is a great female character: strong, independent, and more than a little stubborn. It is a nice surprise to see a star athlete portrayed as a decent guy. Enjoyed the book thoroughly.
I love Allie Everhart's work. "Holding On" is beautifully written. Ethan and Mike both had to endure so much but yet they continue to hold on. They have great strong woman supporting them as well. Such a wonderful book. Great job Allie!
This was only okay. I liked the first half much better than the second. I mean, how many times can a couple have the same argument over and over? In this story, it was at least 4 times.
Good read... loved the characters, story line. I wish there was an epilogue, I love it when we get a little mire, a gljmpse into the characters future in the end.
This is my first book to read from Allie Everhart and I loved it. Ethan & Becca 's story is such a beautiful love story. Ethan is hoping to become a professional football player when one horrific night changes his life forever. The accident leaves him not knowing he will ever be able to play football again. Depressed and just wants to be left alone confined to wheelchair his parents hire him someone to clean. This is when he meets Becca. She's just what he needs she's like a breath of fresh air. They soon be become friends & he finds he can talk to her better than anyone else. Loved the chemistry between Ethan & Becca. And the other characters in the story are awesome. Would loved to hear just a little bit more about their future. But definitely was worthy of 5🌟 And I will be reading more of Allie's books
Holding On was just what I needed, while I have been in a reading slump. This book by Author Allie Everhart completely hooked me. I wasn’t so sure with the very sexy, dirty beginning, but the story took a quick turn and the story held on to me. I completely loved and adored Ethan and Becca. This book had me feeling everything, from giggling, laughing, completely in love with the characters and in tears. The Story of Ethan and Becca had everything I have been looking for in a book that completely boosted my want for reading again.
Ethan is a complete man, who loved his game. Football was his life and he didn’t know anything else. When a tragic accident left him injured, he was ready to give up on life. Blaming himself for everything that happened. He wanted to be left alone, quite and in peace. Then he met this simple and wonderful girl named Becca. Becca was a breath of fresh air and just what he needed. She opened his eyes again and made him feel things he thought he could never feel again, but when she wasn’t around he went back into feeling sorry for himself.
Their story was truly beautiful. A push and pull relationship that was nothing either one expected. I really really enjoyed their story of love and forgiveness. They made me feel so much for everything they went through apart and together. Author Allie Everhart really knows how to make us fall in love with her characters, I love her writing and every book she had ever written. Aside from her Jade Series, this is also one of my favorite stories written by her. Thx for sharing.
