"I laughed, I cried, I woke up and went to sleep with these characters. Marcos and Howe are two young men you will not easily forget! This heartwarming short story is a gem!" - Amazon Review

Was it murder? Or was it a misfire? Sometimes the truth can be found in the perspective.

On May 12, 2012, Lenny Snider, an unarmed black man, was shot and killed by a two-year Los Angeles Police Officer, Yolanda Mendez. What happened next, no one could predict. Not even their lovers.

Narrated by the fiancé and boyfriend of Lenny and Yolanda, Misfire is an interconnected fictional drama and chillingly realistic look at a routine L.A. traffic stop gone wrong and the two strangers left to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of a devastating tragedy. A gritty, yet endearing testament to humanity, Misfire is a reminder that even in a city of four million people, we are ALL still more connected than we think.

Lenny Snider, an unarmed black man has been shot and killed in the streets of Los Angeles.

The shooter? A LAPD police officer.

While the lawmen, politicians and radical organizers play the blame game, taking turns spewing slanderous accusations and hate in front of live TV cameras, everyone has seemed to stop asking...

What about loved ones left behind?

Narrated by the fiancé and boyfriend of Lenny and the police officer involved, MISFIRE is a chillingly realistic look at a routine LA traffic stop gone wrong and the two strangers left to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of a devastating tragedy.

A gritty, yet endearing testament to humanity, MISFIRE is a reminder that even in a city of 4 million people, we are ALL still more connected than we think.

This was a good short story about 2 sides of the same coin and how a tragedy affects the loved ones of the people involved. Although it was a short story, I do wish there was a little more meat about the subjects of the incident prior to their deaths, however, as a short story, it was still a good read.

"Misfire" by J. Kenyarta

My Thoughts....

Even though this was a rather sad read being of 'grief, healing and forgiveness it is one that you will ponder over long on after the read. This author gave the reader a well written wonderful perceptive connection to each of the characters and definitely bringing out how it could affect the family. In the end the reader gets a quick interesting read that you will not be able to put down and only leave the reader wanting more.

Something to think about

I enjoyed this short story. Gives a perspective many dont stop and think about. The road less traveled is painful on both sides.

Such a lovely story

Misfire was a good read! I enjoyed it and it felt so therapeutic. The ending was my favorite and it was amazing. J's storytelling is great and I can't wait to read his other stories. I recommend this book if you like short stories.

Insightful

I downloaded this book because another reader on Goodreads was reading it. It looked interesting. And it was. A short read, but the author still managed to capture the after effect of a police shooting on the lives of the victim's loved ones and the officer's also. So much attention goes to the outrageousness of these situations but rarely do we hear how the families survive or carry on. As this book shows, sometimes the grief is too much to bear alone. It takes work to carry on. And 'caught on camera' or not, we never know the whole story. Well done.

I enjoyed where the author was going with this short story, I wanted more from the characters and the situations and it would easily have been 5 stars for me. Connecting with the characters whether I've experienced what they have or not is important when I'm reading a book I felt none of that with the dead or living characters, however I do enjoy this author writings and look forward to more soon.

Enlightening story as a tragic event is told from both sides. Nicely written storyline with good dialogue between the characters. While it was a sad situation for the parties involved, I thought the ending provided closure. Good short.

Rounded up from 3.5 stars. This was a depressing turned heartwarming story of grief which shows that things aren’t always as they appear. A quick read with endearing characters. I enjoyed the dialogue as well.

MISFIRE

A tough subject matter since we are living g in a time when people march because of police shootings of black men, 👩, and children. This short 50 page story reflects such a case.
