Globetrotting assassin, Amy Farr, and her ex-Navy SEAL partner, Trevor Hunter—the good guys—cross one continent and one country after another in an effort to retrieve a scientist’s formula.
Once injected with the mind-bending substance, ‘mind over matter’ stops being a catchy saying and becomes a reality.
In the right hands, it’s the stuff that new generation soldiers are made of. And in the wrong hands? When you think that few have the mind control of a Zen master, empowering the average joe’s imaginings, well . . . The formula is Armageddon in a bottle.
To get their hands on the substance, Amy and Trevor must face off against their counterparts: Curt Hammon, a sadist and Delta Forces commander with more than one team at his disposal; and Lara Lietoman, a mastermind and corporate head of a transnational empire of crime.
There’s nowhere to go in this world where Lara and Curt can’t track you. And the only one more tech-loving than our assassin Amy Farr, with her hands on even more cutting-edge stuff, is Lara.
It’s a clash of titans grown small in a world where each new tech breakthrough makes yesteryear’s giants seem like today’s roadkill.

While action-packed sci-fi/techno-thrillers set in the near future are my forte, I also stray into other genres from time to time, such as space operas, paranormal fantasy, and detective stories. All my novels can be described as action-thrillers, no matter the sub-genre.

I live in the country where I breed bluebirds, which are endangered in these parts, as my small contribution to restoring nature's balance. When I'm not writing, or researching my next book, I may also be found socializing with friends, or working in the garden.
If you'd like to know what compels me to write, it's simple. I write as a force for peace. Fiction has a way of engaging our whole minds, not just our intellects, but various layers of our conscious, superconscious, and unconscious. Novels also encourage our left and right cerebral hemispheres to get in sync and, with just enough magic and wizardry, can help to transform people into more enlightened souls (the writer included) better than a hundred years of therapy or rational arguments to the same ends.
I've remained a lifelong student of philosophy, spirituality, psychology, science, and the arts.

Humans beware, trans-humans are coming... Or are they already here? And what about Kurzweil's singularity?
This near future action packed novel is packed with ideas that may or may not be out of this world. We follow Amy and Trevor, an assassin and her ex-Navy SEAL partner trying to stay alive and possibly save the world. From the Amazon rain forest to the outback to the monks on Bali, the action is never far away.
And what about Lara and Curt? What part do they play in shaping the future of the world? Read the novel to find the answers to these questions and and a lot more answers to questions you were afraid of asking!
I only started reading Mr. Moore’s books in the last 3 years or so, so it comes as no surprise I had not read Mind Bender until now. Of course, once again I was presented with science fiction/fact that boggles the mind by blurring the line between the two so much that the reader isn’t sure which is fact, and which is fiction. Mind Bender’s nano-enhanced characters are entertaining to say the least, each of them is filled with their own personal hells/demons, however they don’t let that interfere – to much- with the mission or each other. To say I enjoyed the book would be an understatement, I will however provide a PSA at this point, if you get offended by adult content there is some present. I received a review copy from the author and chose to provide this review.
A Dizzying Experience (in a good way) This book is non-stop action. I mean - non-stop on non-stop action. The incorporation of tech as the characters are looking at a world of 'transhumans' is pretty much seamless, and you end up rooting for some interesting characters throughout.
Review: MIND BENDER by Dean C. Moore (IT TAKES TWO #1)
Finding myself engrossed is not uncommon when reading horror, but turning the pages so fast that my Kindle sparks is more rare in other genres. Yet, I read MIND BENDER with exactly that [figurative] experience. Whether due to the author's writing gift, the lovable yet awe-inspiring characters, the superlative science fictional plot, or the glimmering possibilities of metaphysics glimpsed in the near background, this novel was riveting. Simultaneously I chuckled often, occasionally laughed aloud, gasped, and marveled. Exceptional novel!
MIND BENDER is the first instalment in Dean C Moore’s adult, futuristic IT TAKES TWO speculative/science fiction series.
WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise including graphic violence, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told in five acts, from several third person perspectives MIND BENDER focuses on the hunger for power; the ultimate control of the human psyche, and the world at large. Many of the world’s population are transhuman, injected with powerful nanobyte technology creating a humanistic cyborg but a scientist has developed a formula that when administered has the potential for biological warfare including the ability for humans to use thought projections turned into reality. From telekinetics, telepathy and manifestation, assassin Amy Farr, and ex-Navy SEAL Trevor Hunter find themselves in the jungles of Mexico, as self-administered guinea pigs when Amy ‘disposes’ of a vial of futuristic powers. Hoping to build an army of super soldiers, already genetically enhanced with nano technology, CEO Lara Lietoman and Curt Hammon, go in search of Amy and Trevor, in an effort to take back what doesn’t belong.
MIND BENDER is a story of what ifs? Of psychobiology in a world with a sentient AI reaching for singularity, at the expense of humanity and the world, at large. Dean C Moore pulls the reader into a fast paced, graphic, violent, complex and detailed adventure of science fiction and potential fact.
I read this book in 2017 but apparently my review did take effect so I get to try again) Amy and Trevor take a bottle off a dead person Amy has assassinated to protect the general populace. The contents can affect a person's brain to such an extent that it can effect reality. Now both must find the formula which is easier said that done since not only do they have to defend each other from themselves, but also from another team with more resources. And Lara and Curt will not be pushovers and have the latest gen tech. A challenge both parties are lo0oking forward to but who will survive? A great adventure read with plenty of action and humor.
Amy & Trevor, just your average internal assassin / ex-Navy SEAL couple in a super hi-tech future environment with a super evil-doer bad-a** bad guy to face... Don't worry though, this power couple (in so many ways) are up for any good old fashion fun, thrills, kills and adventure! Mind Bender, the first of Dean C. Moore's It Takes Two novels, is a wild trip of a ride that's well worth taking.
Fast-paced, action-packed funny, great characters.
I did not review this book the first time I read it because I was waiting for a follow up, did not get one. This book was excellent, fast-paced, fun, a lot of action gadgets and great characters. It was a thrill ride a mile a minute roller coaster people who like action, gadgets Snark and great characters will enjoy this book. Hope the author will write another one in the same universe.
Dean C Moore introduces us to the world of mind bending drugs that could cause unimaginable chaos if they fall into the wrong hands. Amy Farr and her partner former Navy SEAL Trevor Hunter are on a race around the world to find this drug and grab it before the bad guys do. And with the fate of the world at risk they know they have to succeed at all costs. Interesting read.
Scary… the future could be dangerous to humans. This was a great story and I totally enjoyed it. If you like futuristic stories this one will blow your mind. Recommend to all lovers of science fiction or possibly non-fiction as the future is coming faster than you think.
A noir techno thriller, enhanced assassins, a potent vial governments and corporations kill to possess, chases around the world, glimpse of different cultures, cold blooded and fast paced action, keeps you on your toes.
Kindle Unlimited {except for FutureScape 1 for some reason, but I had it from freebie day}, working my way through his books, all of them are sci-fi in some way, some more 'out there' than others. This one was an ARC and assume but not positive will be ku. This one was more of a thriller type maybe, and didn't like it quite as much as the others, but then not that thrilled with thrillers overall, so that's me not the story or the writer. Yes one of my free copies they hope I will read, and review, hopefully favorable of course but they get what they get when I read/review so they're fine with it.
Psychological terror meets action thriller in this series opener as globetrotting assassin, Amy Farr, and ex-Navy SEAL partner, Trevor Hunter—the good guys—cross one continent and one country after another in an effort to retrieve a scientist’s formula. Once injected with the mind-bending substance, ‘mind over matter’ becomes less of a catchy saying and more of a reality. In the right hands, it’s the stuff that new generation soldiers are made of. And in the wrong hands? The formula is Armageddon in a bottle. When you think that few have the mind control of a Zen master, empowering the average Joe’s imaginings, well such a concoction could pave inroads into Dante’s hell, expanding the number of realms from nine to countless many.
To get their hands on the substance, Amy and Trevor must face off against their counterparts. Curt Hammon, the sadist and Delta Forces captain with a full team at his disposal, is paired with Lara Lietoman, the mastermind and corporate head of a transnational empire of crime. There’s nowhere to go in this world where Lara can’t track you. The only one more tech-loving than our assassin Amy Farr, with her hands on even more cutting-edge stuff, is Lara. It’s a clash of titans grown small in a world where each new tech breakthrough makes yesteryear’s giants seem like today’s roadkill.

I'm not going to provide a synopsis of the book because other reviewers have already done this superbly .
I will just give my opinion.
I would describe this as a double act by 2 James & Jane Bond on steroids style book. There is a colossal amount of activity... a lot of futuristic technology (some of which I find tricky to comprehend and a tad too far fetched), a lot of violence and a lot of unanswered questions.
It took me longer than usual to read because there was what felt to me like a lot of repetitive actions... boy & girl fight baddies; boy & girl move to next location; boy & girl fight more baddies etc.. there was little or no final outcome from many of the skirmishes which I found niggling.
The substance used to enhance human abilities is interesting, although not a unique idea. However, I felt let down by the lack of proper description of how it was developed, why and how it could work. There is some explanation but it felt inadequate - maybe I lack sufficient understanding of the brain/drug interaction (in all fairness to Dean I was kicked out of chemistry classes for falling asleep).
The use of children as psychological guides is a brave approach - my kids & grandkids have hyperactive imaginations... so I'm not sure I would want to be reliant on them to help stabilise my thought projections.
I'm guessing we will be given more insight of the anomaly in a follow up book, which I find frustrating.
My main dislikes are the globetrotting sprints at super silly speed and the ending. I know you have to leave readers wanting more but the end was very flat after all the activity. I was left with numerous questions, more than I would like and because the ending was so frayed I'm not sure I would want to read a follow-up because I'm unlikely to recall all those 'split ends'.
But if you're a fan of action packed, futuristic, technologically advanced ideologies with a touch of psychologically damaged heroes & heroines then this book is a must.
If, like me, you prefer to get a little closure enroute then you will be disappointed.

But when you think that few have the mind control of a Zen master, empowering the average joe’s imaginings, well . . . I couldn't put it down. Loved it. Hope there is more to come. Highly recommended. 5*. Tbc on fb.
Dean C. Moore's masterful dark, humorous thrillers are 'mind-expanding'. "Marvelous, simply, Marvelous" !!! Mind Bender is a spot-on title. Nano & AGI tech and Sooo much more. Some future technology may not be so far off. Some 'good vs evil' may not be what it seems. I expect the It Takes Two series is another Involving, Intriguing, Capturing of the reader creation by this author. Ex-Navy SEAL Trevor Hunter has planned the perfect get away for his proposal to Amy Farr. But who really picked this location ?!? Could this be a working-vacation for Amy, global assassin, extraordinaire ?!? Oh the extraordinary storyline that developes. Filled with unpredictable action packed thrills, twists, turns, page turning imagination and detail. The main characters go up against a new arch nemesis. Retired assassin Lara Lietoman and Delta Force Capt. Curt Hammon. Both sides acquire unique cohorts. The book's discription explains much better than I could. I mention the following BECAUSE this book is WELL WORTH reading and finishing...there are a few pages that may be a bit 'graphic/gross'. I almost didn't go beyond these FEW pages EXCEPT I had to follow Amy and Trevor whereever they took me. And Dean C. Moore is one of my fav authors. I skipped these nominal pages (about 3) continued and finished. Quite happy I did. A real shame if I had cheated myself from finishing this WELL WORTH read!!! I received this book as an ARC. I am voluntarily posting this review.
"I received a free copy from the author. I had the option of reviewing or not."
This a novel set in a near future, where tech seems to have NO limits! If nothing exceeds like excess, then this books staggering in its size and scope. Take the over-the-top action of the Roger Moore Bond films, mix with the military nano scifictiony G.I. Joe movies, and you'll be dialed in for the first 10 pages or so. Hell, even through in some LUCY! Then it Really takes off! At times the tech nudges its way in front of the story. Where you'll have 5 pages of set-up on the tech, just so you'll understand how some crazy action scene that you'll shoot through in only 2 paragraphs long.
Going back to Bond, I often wondered how the villain could afford building all of those underwater cities, or secret volcano lairs. You'd think folks would notice the armies of construction guys going at it... Much the same holds true here. It's Kool that the villain has a Space Plane so that she can get anywhere in the world in under 2 hours. But where do you park the dang thing? How do you order up tanks of rocket fuel without Somebody noticing? Still, either you are along for the ride... or you've already moved along.
One real knock I would have is that it seemed to take forever before we got the first hint as to why we are here in the first place. I love adrenal rushed, insane action...
Mr. has Big ideas and writes BIG action. Jump in and enjoy!
If you are looking for next-gen adult(! I mean it, 18+++) Sci-Fi, look no further! Dean manages to blend ultra-tech with 'mind bending' understanding of the human condition and drives.
Seriously what sets this apart from the rest is the insight into what drives humans, both the trials and tribulations, insecurities and introspection. Combine that with a deep understanding of more spiritual concerns, playing out as the characters unfold with deep interactions with each other, in the most gritty way, and you have 'Mind Bender'.
This is not a ride for a casual Sci-Fi reader... Dean takes you on a ride that is faster, more hectic and engaging than a roller coaster with a turbo-booster.
Cultural references abound, and you will appreciate it best if you are well read. Dean is an upcoming master, and is due to give Frank Herbert a run for his money (may Frank rest in peace).
[Disclaimer: I received an advance copy of the book for free], but seriously, this is one Good Read! Oh, and don't forget to set aside a couple of days. I strongly suggest starting on a Friday, and cancelling all your weekend appointments, you are *going* to miss them because you won't be able to put the book down, so apologize to your better half in advance.
This is a must read. And remember to take a breath every now and then!
This story was a very interesting read. Even though it is suppose to be dark science fiction, the science part is so believable. I thought it was an interesting concept when I read the blurb and I was not disappointed. Once I started reading I was hooked and just had to see what happened next and what other crazy person was going to pop in next. There were twists sciency fights and random weird stuff that showed up too. Loved it. Never quite knew what was going on next as the story flipped between characters as I got a chance to see how everything going on meshes together. I thought it was another great story that was different yet a bit believable from Moore that was so worth the read. Once done had to sit a moment and say wow. Totally recommend reading. Plus it's setup to be a series so should be interesting to see what happens next.
3.5 stars. Mind Benders is the first book in the It Takes Two series. The book can be read as a standalone. There is a lot of violence and adult themes so definitely 18+.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. This is not your typical story. Expect a lot of humor and sarcasm mixed in with the storyline. Be prepared for a lot of back and forth between characters and tech talk. The beginning makes you feel like you missed reading a few chapters. Stick with it. This book is worth finishing.
I received a copy of this book from the author and chose to leave a review for other readers.
This is the first Dean C Moore book that I have read. It took me a couple of chapters to really get into this book but then I was hooked. It is a fast-paced read with plenty of action! The author has created a near future where humans try to advance using a combination of technology and psychic abilities. The protagonists are likeable characters and relatable each in his/her own way. There is plenty of humour, which I also enjoyed, throughout the book. I received a copy of this book from the author and chose to leave this review.
Loved this techie book and the characters were great and really enjoyed the interaction between Amy and Trevor, assassin and ex navy seal. Trevor’s perfect plan to propose to Amy doesn’t quite go quite how he anticipated and ends up turning into an action packed drama, will they survive the events that unfold ….. you will just have to wait and see. The book contains love, laughter and lots of grisly moments but even though this is the first of Dean’s books that I have read I really got into it.
This is a mix between a team of two - one good - one bad - or are they ? It is full of action and adventure - moving about different parts of the world.
It’s also a book about technology and human alterations trying to become super warriors and what this can mean and the effect it can have on these people.
It brings your mind into thinking what is possible in our own world and where this type of ‘tech’ will take the world ...
This book was not an easy read for me. REGARDLESS, this is a book well worth reading. The main characters are not the usual types but prove to be likeable heroes. The whole story is a twist on the norm of near-future techno novels.
This review wasn't easy to write either but I hope it encourages you to give Mind Bender a chance.
