Synopsis of Wife Number Seven (Book 1 in the series)
Lipstick. Bright, red lipstick. Nothing but lipstick. Even though it’s against our faith to wear a color that screams of sexual promiscuity and deviant behavior, I’m not allowed to protest. But, I want to. So badly.
You see, there’s more to me than the braid that spills down my back. More to me than the layers of heavy fabric that maintain my modesty. And so much more than the oppressive wedding band that adorns my finger--the same band that each of my sister wives wear. So much more. To protest would be sinful. I must keep sweet, that is my duty.
So I’ll wear the lipstick. I’ll do as I’m told. And I’ll do my best to silence the resistance within me, to push him from my mind. If only my heart would do the same.
I have always been fascinated with books----ever since I was a little girl sitting in front of my record player, following along with my huge 12x12 storybooks.
I'm a pop culture maniac, Potterhead and Disney fanatic. I write new adult romance, contemporary romance and romantic suspense.
What an excellent series. So unique and different from what's out there right now. Yes, romance somewhat took a back-burner to the plot, but I LOVE that in my books, and the romance is still very present in almost all the books.
If you followed the Warren Jeffs/FLDS real life story at all, this series is about that - it's kind of like being in the middle of it all, and watching it/reading it from the inside. If you have it, just think of it as kinda-sorta a cult book, or less so. A fundamentalist religious book, and what the women in those sort of religions go through in order to find their HEA.
I really enjoyed it. I stayed up till 6am one night to finish one of the books. I read the entire thing in less than three days - four books, one novella, so that says something right there.
I was not expecting to like this nearly as much as I did. In fact, I didn't think I'd like it at all, but the free sample on Amazon hooked me and then I couldn't put it down (except for a brief break when it got super stressful and I needed to breathe). I loved it so much, and I'm so sad it ended. I want another book, just one more, but it's okay, I'll live.
The good, the bad and the really, really ugly. The author addresses many of our concerns about polygamy, but also allows us to accept that for some it could have some appeal. Some typos, yet redeems with an interesting story.
I am not a believer in plural marriage, as described in this book, which places multiple women in marriage to one man, whether or not she agrees or is happy. However, I deeply dislike the main character, whose sole vision of free womanhood is jumping in bed with another man and indulging herself. She can't bring herself to leave the compound, but is fine with deceit and involving others in her mounting dirty secrets. She is as selfish as the husband she claims to decry. As well, the graphic descriptions of sex in this book are many and unnecessary. I wanted a story, not soft porn, and after reading barely a quarter of this book, having skipped over several pages, I am disgusted and bored. The quality of writing is excellent, but the overall content, in my opinion, is of similar quality to Harlequin trash.Very disappointing, as I think the author is quite talented in her writing ability. Moving on!
Definitely parallels the FLDS sect run by Warren Jeffs. Sometimes a bit too much to the point where it seems it’s simply his story with different characters. Overall a fun, quick read.
Evil is strong, but a woman with a mind can be a match. If Aspen had cowered down, Clarence would never have been exposed. Her strong will and sharp mind brought him to an end. This is one of the best books I’ve read.
