What is Noblebright fantasy? Set apart by a sense of hope, noblebright fantasy includes at least one character who, although flawed, still deliberately pursues goodness. And that goodness has the power to make a difference. In a noblebright story, even villains are not without hope. Their redemption isn’t guaranteed, of course, but it is a possibility.

C. J. Brightley lives outside Washington, D.C., with her husband and their two young children. When she's not busy writing, she teaches karate, bakes too many desserts, and makes jewelry. She loves to connect with readers!
Well, it was a mix. One thing I was quite happy with was that they were nearly all full length novels. I was not expecting that at all. However, most of them give the impression of indie or inexperienced writers and were a part of a series. For the reviews, please follow the links to my individual book reviews. Apart from that I'll be brief.
Loved it!! So glad this was in the collection. The story was so good and clever I went a bought the whole series. Even if you don't buy the collection, get this book, it's free anyway. 5 stars! Content, kind of creepy in some places, but mostly fine.
Raven
Well, I didn't actually finish this one. I got a chapter in a was bored by an angsty teenage assassin.
Interesting concept, book was a bit cut off though. Didn't decide whether I liked it or not. 3 stars. Content, creepy vampires/dementors. s-word. Light dark magic. Not to bad really.
Rachel and the Many-Splendored Dreamland
What even is this book. Third in a series for one thing, really bizarre for another. Couldn't tolerate another moment of nonsense and total childishness. Did not finish.
Well, not to bad. Good as a light read, a bit nothing if you're in an intelligent capable of thought mood. I wasn't so I kinda liked it. 3 stars Content, loads of sexual references after halfway :P
I reviewed each story individually, but I will review the collection as a whole now.
I gave it a 5 star rating because for the price and for as many stories I like, it's definitely worth it, even though there were stories that weren't my favorite.
One thing that was a bit frustrating is that I couldn't follow the progress bar, because all 10 stories were together.
Lord of Dreams. (Ends at 9%) A Five Star Favorite of mine. I love the traditional fairy tale retelling, and this is right in that style.
A Threat of Shadows (ends at 20%) 4 stars. I enjoyed the journey in this book of the main character finding himself. If I found the next book at the library, I would definitely continue the series.
Heir of Iron (ends at 32%) I have to admit, I didn't finish this. The first section follows a sister and her guard/secret husband. They are trying to find/train/rescue her estranged brother. But during the entire first section, I couldn't figure out who to root for. The main character was disrespectful to her father by getting married against his wishes, and planned to take the kingdom from her brother, who was dragged along for the ride. The brother didn't want to be the next heir. At the end of the section, my favorite character ends up dead. On the next page it goes back in time (I assume) to follow things from a completely different perspective. At that point, I gave up. Perhaps this book will be someone's favorite, but it wasn't mine.
The Hawk and His Boy (ends 40%). This story was interesting enough, but my problem was it's part of a trilogy. I have no problem with books in a series in a collection like this; I like finding new series and authors I enjoy. However, this trilogy is a complete story chopped into 3, rather than 3 episodes. It had an abrupt ending and the afterward comments that it's never meant to be read without the other two books. Personally, I don't like feeling strong armed into buying books, so I felt like I wasted a bunch of time reading. Granted, if it had been a 5 star favorite, I would have been happy for the story to continue, but it was about a 3.5 star for me.
Raven: Chronicles of Steele (ends 48%) this one I liked 4 stars. I'm glad I didn't have to wait for this as a serial. I am hoping to read the next episode in the series.
Wolfskin (ends 59%) 5 stars. This one I had borrowed and read before. This was the whole reason I bought the book! And it's still one of my favorites! I've read everything from this author I can get my hands on; she does not disappoint.
Fire thorn Crown (ends 67%) another that I had read before. Still 5 star. This one is a retelling of the 12 princess. It is well done, and the friendship and family relationships are beautiful. I'm excited to read the stories of the other sisters!
Sunbolt (ends 72%) 4 stars. The description the book gives is quite a small part of the beginning of the book. Hitomi is a magic user and ends up on a longer journey than she bargained for, finding new friends, getting captured, losing her memory, finding it again, and finding a magical mentor. Another one I'd be happy to continue
Rachel and the Many Splendored Dreamland (ends 88%) This book is the 3rd in a series, and I didn't read the others, so I had to play a bit of catch-up. There was a lot happening in the beginning of the book (seemed like a continuation of the previous story, if I had to guess). Then there was a lot of building and set up for a second climactic scene later in the book. This was an unexpected story arc and so the book seemed to drag on toward the middle when I wasn't sure what the story was moving towards. However, by the time I got to the end, I was invested in the characters enough to want to know what happens next.
The Pygmy Dragon (ends 100%) 5 star. Loved this. Will continue the series. Pip has quite the journey to find herself and figure out who she is and where she belongs, right in time to help her friends in the dragon war!
What a wonderful set of adventures! Each world is beautifully unique, each story is creative and complex, and each hero speaks to the childhood dreamer in us. I feel as though I've discovered new universes and am eager to explore what more they have to offer.
