I read this in 30 minutes, but it's a powerful little book. Perhaps it was meant for missionaries on the field, but I think it applies to each and every person who wants to live their life for Jesus.

For such a little book it sure is jam packed with wisdom and such.🔥 One reason I decided to read this is because it was authored by Amy Carmichael, who was a missionary to India. She truly loved the Lord, and you can tell when reading this. Did she write her own poetry? There were some lovely God glorifying poems in here of which I admire. During this read through I discovered so many quotes for my commonplace book, and I'm sure I'll reread this booklet in the future sometime. I recommend this for every Christian because we are all called to be missionaries. "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel..." (Mark 16:15-16) All the world includes your family, your shopping trips, and wherever else you are.

P.S. I found this in the public domain for free to download. It's only 49 pages. 😉

So refreshing. One of my favorite quotes, "Anything that would hinder us from the closest walk possible with our Lord is not for us."

One of my top, necessary books to read. This is my second or third read through and it requires multiple readings after to remind the Christian of the things most necessary. What can the believer say to the questions and spiritual realities/consequences that Carmichael raises? Challenging and convicting…the reminder of “crooked patterns” and the “three sieves”…the entanglements of the soldier…consecration onto Him…

“Love is the answer to all things: love end alls questions. lord, ever more give us this love.”

This book will give strength to those who wish to live for Christ, whether that means living for Him overseas or living for Him at home. It was intended for younger souls, those who have not yet made up their minds in the matter of giving their all to Christ and living every moment for Him; of being disentangled from anything that would distract from Christ; of separating completely from even good things if giving them up would mean more of Christ; and of finding their joy and glory in serving Christ. This little book is a big challenge to the soul, but a challenge I think necessary. After all Christ has given for us, "Ours should be the love that asks not, 'How little?' but, 'How much?'"

The truth in this book is fresh air and fuel to spiritual fire. Your flesh will not like it, but the Spirit of Christ in you will yearn for more. This book will save from compromise and downfall in areas of your life that you might not even have realized there was danger of it. Though a hard read in places, it is a very sweet one. This is the second time I've read this book, and I'm certain it won't be the last.

This book was definitely a challenge to the soul. What are your motivations? What are you willing to give up or let go of in order to serve God? What matters most in your heart?

I must also say that it’s very clear this was written by a single missionary. While I appreciate the core of her message, many of her suggestions or parts of her philosophy are only workable if you do not have a family. For that reason, I take away a star.

I did appreciate her point of really being *with* the National people and integrating with them. It is not common for that to be done, but as someone who is striving to do just that in West Africa, it was an encouraging reminder.

Words of concise brevity and power. In the spirit of 2 Timothy 2:4, Charmichael writes of what true devotion and separation to the work of spreading the Gospel requires. "Comrades in this solemn fight- this awful conflict with awful powers- let us settle it as something that cannot be shaken: we are here to live holy, loving, lowly lives. We cannot do this unless we walk very, very close to our Lord Jesus. Anything that would hinder us from the closest walk possible to us till we see him face to face is not for us."

What does it truly mean to be a missionary for God? I found out in the book through the eyes of Amy Carmichael. Looking at it from a different perspective, I saw why the sacrifices were necessary in relation to working with a foreign people. I saw my life compared to the missionary’s and was saddened by many things.

I think this is an interesting and helpful little book. The first book I've actually ready by Amy Carmichael. I think it's a bit dated, and some of it is not relevant to my situation, but I was challenged by the subject matter and do feel inspired to be disentangled by civilian affairs.

A solid, very short and quick reminder on some basics of faith as a Christ follower:
Dis-entanglement, Separateness, Priesthood. (Thank you, Lord for the wisdom of many who have gone before us!)

"It is possible to touch the spirit of the world at many points with the best intentions, without making any appreciable difference in its worldliness. We may influence the tone of a community for the space of the hour we spend in it, but does our presence there lead to opportunities for direct unequivocal work for our Lord? If not, is it worthwhile?"

What should I even say about a book written by such a godly and inspiring missionary? Amy Carmichael was always ready to examine her life against the Word of God. She lived what she preached and she loved sharing what God laid on her hearth. This tiny book written by Amy Carmichael has been such a blessing to me! I would especially recommend it to those whom God called to full-time Christian service!

When I first got a copy of this book I thought it would be like a small biography of Amy Carmichael's missionary journey. But I was pleasantly surprised that it was actually written by Amy to missionaries. I found it very convicting and a needed read. May I not just 'move on' from this book but implement the words written into my daily actions. "Life is not long enough for everything..." so may we who are missionaries not waste it.

Succinct and tied to the apt verses from the Word, this book has led me to make convictions that prepares my heart and mind of what it means to be God's missionary. Applicable to anyone who is a follower of Christ. Absolute page-turner.

Short. Sweet. Powerful. Convicting.

Deals with only “knowing Christ and Him crucified.”

What does that mean, practically?

Not just for vocational ministers—for all who claim the name of Christ.

To the point. Not more words then necessary to convict and challenge you to a deeper walk with the one that gives Life!

Wow this book packs a punch. I read a library ebook but I’d like to have my own paperback. The problem is, I’d highlight most of it and that would defeat the purpose of the highlighter.
