Please note: this story is NOT a fairytale. The scenes are hot, the main man is even hotter, and the storyline is gritty and real. Recommended for audiences over the age of 18 due to sexual content, adult scenes, and swear words. If hot alpha men with big hearts and rough exteriors scare you, this may not be the book for you.

The Opposite Effect by Shandi Boyes a sublime five-star read. This is the eighth book in the Enigma series, it could be read as a stand-alone but I would recommend you read the series in order as it’s amazing, if you read the whole series you get the background to some of the characters and get the little private jokes and history behind the rows. That being said I didn’t like Clara in the other books, but bringing her to a different side of Ravenshoe has brought a whole new Clara one I actually like and would happily have drinks with. I adore Shandi Boyes writing, she gives her characters depth that make them whole, they aren’t all sunshine and light, they have a dark side to them and they are people you would like to see, If I could visit a literary world it would be Ravenshoe.
Brax Anderson is a ruggedly handsome man, on his side of Ravenshoe he is well known for having fun with the bunnies, but he has rules he follows, one he doesn’t bring woman back to his apartment (mainly as he used to live with his gran, who is a woman after my own heart she’s 78 with the dirty mind of a 20 year old boy) and two he doesn’t tattoo a name on someone without a ring or it being a relation (unless he knows it’s real). When a woman asks him to do one he gives her a compromise and when he finds that he wants to break the other with her he knows life will never be the same again.
Ms Clara McGregor is an ice princess who has grown up with a silver spoon in her mouth and how now decided that she wants to strike it out on the dark side of Ravenshoe and she starts if off by getting a tattoo, when her stubbornness starts to change her what will become of her? and when she changes will she still be attracted to her polar opposite? Only time will tell and will she get her just deserts or will fate play fair and give her what she needs.

The Opposite Effect (Enigma Book 8) by Shandi Boyes

5 Stars

I loved this book so much and as this series keeps progressing I can't even come close to picking a favorite. This author is definitely on my watch list and has become one of my favorites. Her stories flow perfectly and are always full of intense happenings that I just love. Her characters are strong yet emotional and I can't rave about her books enough!!

Brax, extremely handsome, is considered the #1 bachelor in his part of town. He was raised by his grandmother with an iron fist that taught him to be a gentleman, even though his exterior says otherwise. He is happy with his life as a bachelor and has no plans to change it anytime soon. He runs Inked, a very successful tattoo parlor in the seedy part of Ravenshoe. Everything is good until one day a scorching hot blonde with a silver spoon hanging on her shoulder comes in wanting a tattoo of a mans name. Brax doesn't like putting names on bodies unless they are family members. After much fighting back and forth he agrees to ink her but after signing a contract that the artist has a right to alter any design, which he does….a couple months go by since he last heard the words that she was gonna sue him for every penny he has when one day she walks in applying for the job he posted. Her attitude hasn't changed much but he gives her a chance. As time goes by things that happen have him totally confused about her circumstances and his frustration level has him convinced a part of his body is broken as it seems to only come to life when the sassy full of attitude blonde is near.

Can these two from opposite sides of life find a way to get along? As the truth starts finally revealing itself can he find ways to break down her walls and also protect her? This is an absolute must read!!

Hands off ladies, Brax is mine!LOL Loved Brax and Clara, boy talk about opposites attract. I was a little taken aback by Clara's attitude, but I quickly warmed up to her. As well Shandi's other books this was well developed and thought out. She obviously knows what she is talking about. I really enjoyed this book, and the story of these two people. This is a male POV driven book.

I really enjoyed this book!

Clara, aka Princess, is a spoiled, rich brat that comes into Brax's tattoo parlor. Brax refuses to give her the tattoo she wants, but finally agrees after some "modifications". She leaves pissed. Fast forward a few months, Clara is back and Brax assumes it is too sue over the tattoo changes. Turns out she needs a job and has no experience. After proof of her desperation Brax decides to allow her to work at Inked on a trial basis. Something else to note is that Clara speaks her mind, no matter how brutal it may be.

Brax is a sexy, tattooed, alpha male. He takes care of and looks out for his own, whether that be his grandma or one of his members from in Inked crew (they are basically his family). When Clara starts at Inked she becomes part of this family. Brax is at every turn helping Clara with something new she has to face in life, since she has been through out of her silver spoon upbringing.

I have not read any other books from this series and I was still able to follow it pretty well. Though I will admit I could use more of Clara's backstory to get a better understanding on what happened that pushed her out of her silver spoon life.

Over all, I love this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves romance and hot sex.

another great story. Clara has a bad rep from the other stories in the Enigma series . She is rich, spoiled, snobby and manipulative. Brax is pretty laid back and in his words tries to avoid confrontations. When Clara shows up at Brax's tattoo shop she displays all her bad traits. this is the beginning on future tug and war games. Brax wins the first battle between them. later when circumstances change for her, Brax hires her to work at the tattoo shop. They are total opposites but that does not stop the insane attraction. As time goes by, he learns things that changes his perception about Clara. You cab't always judge a book by it;s cover. The story will have you smiling, laughing out loud and falling in love with Brax. I even began to like Clara. She didn't roll over. She made some bad decisions and worked with the fallout. Even you didn't like her attitude you have to give her props for being a strong woman.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I enjoyed getting to know Brax and Clara. They are so opposite and yet so good together. Clara's attitude is hard to take at times but Brax is strong enough to tolerate her. Brax is the ultimate bachelor and doesn't like to share his home with the girls he picks up but he takes Clara home and basically moves her in with him without a second thought. They are a really good match.

I am a big fan of the enemies to lover’s trope—so when I discovered it would be the feature of The Opposite Effect by Shandi Boye I could not wait to dive into the story. This is the eighth book in The Enigma series, however there is no need to read the previous books prior to reading this installment.

The Story
In this installment, readers are introduced to Brax Anderson and Carla McGregor. Brax is a tattoo artist and manager of Inked, the number one tattoo parlour in Ravenshoe. He is a self-claimed bachelor and does not intend to settle down. The only woman who owns a piece of his heart is his grandmother. No other woman has breached the walls surrounding his heart until the day Clara McGregor walked through the doors of Inked.

Clara is unlike any woman Brax has ever encountered. She sets his blood on fire; however, she had other things on her agenda, which did not include hooking up with a tattoo artist from a different side of the tracks.
It is said opposites attract, but Brax and Clara not only attract they also sizzled. These two together made for some laugh out loud moments. Their interaction was funny, entertaining and snarky. The story was easy to follow, and I enjoyed how the events unfolded.

There was a part of the story which I had an issue. It had to do with the male protagonist's desire to keep mentioning a particular part of his anatomy throughout the story. If I did not know, better I would believe it was a character. Every time Clara appeared, he saw it fit to mention its reaction to her. At first, I did not mind, but too much of one thing after a while can become intolerable.

The Characters
I enjoyed getting to know Brax. As the story was told solely from his POV, I had no trouble connecting with him. There were moments throughout the story when I felt he was speaking directly to me. I understood what made him tick. If you were to ask me, what kind of man is he my answer would be confident, sexy, protective and caring?

The words that first came to mind when I met Clara was snobbish and entitled. Fortunately, she managed to redeem herself by the time the story concluded. By this time, the words I would use to describe her were determined, sassy and proud. She challenged Brax and made him feel things no other woman was able to do.

Unfortunately. I never connected with her. I believe my disconnection stemmed from the fact I never felt her emotions throughout the course of the story. The author made it known she was down on her luck but I was not feeling her desperation. Clara was a mystery for most of the story. I did not understand why she was desperate for a job but owned expensive things. Everything I learnt about her I learned through Brax’s POV. Her voice was silent throughout the story.

The secondary characters helped to make things interesting. They added to the fun moments in the story.

The Romance
I did not connect with the romance, which I contribute to me not connecting with one-half of the couple. The issues I had with character growth, manifested itself in the development of the romance. Once again, I only got Brax’s perspective. I knew how Brax felt about Clara, but I had no idea how she felt. While Brax’s feelings were demonstrated throughout the story, hers was told from his POV.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Despite my issues, I enjoyed The Opposite Effect, and I would read more from this author.

IMO, there was no true plot and no emotion from Clara or the relationship in general, felt more like lust. And yeah, I know this wasn’t a dual POV but even so, we should have been able to get a little more than just her “snarky” personality. Clara was just a mystery full of desperation for money throughout the majority of the book and when everything FINALLY came to light and I thought we were getting somewhere, it was so underwhelming ..it hurt. It hurt knowing I had to go on simply because I was so close to the end it would have been criminal not to.

Also, as swoony of a character Brax was, his mentioning of how turned on he was, was so overdone. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for getting a description but the absurd amount of times I read it 🤢 We get it, thanks.. don’t feel the need to mention it every other chapter. Okay maybe that’s dramatic, but definitely felt like every other page at least.

I know there are high reviews for this one and I’m glad so many are enjoying it but all I want to do is curse Instagram for all the temptation strategically put in front of me to read this book.

So, wow. I never give 5 stars to slow burn romances, because I struggle finishing them. But this Aussie author is fantastic. Honestly this whole story worked for me because it was written in Braxs POV. I thought that was amazing & she has a gift for it. I've never read her before but I'm going to go back now & gobble every book she's written up.

This reading adventure started w/ me wanting to throw the towel in about 20% in because I thought we had a lousy, spoiled h in Clara. Well, I'm glad I didn't. Spoiled yes, but far from lousy & she makes epic strides in this book you cannot but help cheer on. On the other hand I kept waiting for things to heat up & you have to be Uber patient. It doesn't really start until deep into the book but there's lots to keep your interest in the story, IMO.

Great supporting characters, honestly I'd love to see a book for Clara's brother, lol, Ryan, or maybe there are, I'm obviously in the middle of the series, I need to reverse & go way back. Good suspense, fantastic workplace romance book with a book boyfriend to boot. Eloquent writing. Well done.

The Opposite Effect (Enigma 8) by Shandi Boyes is the next installment of her Enigma series. Though it is not necessary to read some of this series in order I highly suggest that you read them from the start. It will give you background information on characters in this book. I love this author, her writing style and her creativity for characters. They are true to life and connectable. They will pull you into their world of hot, steamy romance like no other. Her ability to pull you into the story from the first word is great! The twists and turns will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat one minute and the next needing ice to cool off. Find out what happens with these characters as opposite attracts.

The number one bachelor on this Ravenshoe is Brax Anderson. With his killer heart, gorgeous smile and handsome looks, women gather to him like honey and bears. His family, friends and the women are what keeping his blood pumping and has no intention of settling down. Things are all about to change when a girl from the other side of the tracks walks into his life. She has a fiery attitude and a body to match. She can toss out callous words like no other but what happens when the beauty meets the beast? Is it a conquest that can be conquered? Can opposites really attract?

Brax meets her when she comes into his tattoo parlor for a tattoo and then when she comes in to ask for a job. He can't seem to figure her out but their banter back and forth is more like flirting then anything. They both are attracted to each other but neither one has said anything to the other. They are both guarding their hearts so much so that neither one is willing to admit how they really feel. She has kind of a cold attitude towards him at first and he just wants to be with her. Really, you have to question, if their relationship will even work. They will take you on a roller coaster ride of various emotions that you won't be able to resist. They are both such strong characters. She has just a sassy attitude that she will let nothing get in her way. He is just so warm hearted and loved by all his family and friends. She grew up with a silver spoon in her mouth and he grew up completely opposite. Can they ever come together? Will they defy the laws of attraction? Or will he conquer the sassy beauty? You will love the secondary characters as well. They are supportive and complete the main characters. You will just have to read this book in order to see what happens when opposites attract.

I am not sure how many books of Shandi Boyes I have read but I have loved each and every one. I can't wait to see which characters will get their own book next! Shandi lives in Queensland, Australia with her husband and their children. She has been an avid reader but recently she has found her love of writing. This series just keeps getting better and better with every installment and harder to write reviews without giving away any spoilers. Those are the best kinds of books. This is one of my favorite series and recommend that you read this book along with the other seven in this series. They are fast reading and will keep you engaged until the end. The characters pop off the page and they keep you wanting more. I couldn't put this book down and I know you won't be able to either.

The Opposite Effect
Shandi Boyes
5 Stars

The Opposite Effect is Shandi Boyes 8th book in her Enigma Series. Brax Anderson and Clara McGregor are from different sides of Ravenshoe. Clara being from the more privilege side, Brax being from the more oppressed side. When their paths meet on Brax’s side of Ravenshoe, he cannot help but do his best to keep her safe.
“I smirk, loving not only her feistiness but the small glint of jealousy firing her icy eyes. It’s rare to spark a reaction out of Clara, so I’m going to take it for all its worth. I’m not sure which look I prefer the most on Clara: the feisty little temptress, or the jealous scorned women. Both are as enthralling as the other.”
Brax Anderson has been tattooing at Inked for 10 years. When Ryder the owner need more time with his family, Brax became half owner of Inked. When a blond bombshell is fighting with one of his friends and employees about the rules that Inked has established. She makes a lasting impression on his sexual libido and his mind. He agrees to give her a tattoo, but he alters it and she is not happy about it. Three months later, she ends up back at Inked doorstep, but this time it is for the help wanted they have posted. Brax's reluctantly give her a trail bases, and he uses the job as leverage when she put herself in danger that he does not like. As the weeks go on, everyday his infatuation and his need to protect Clara grows stronger every day. He loves her spitfire attitude and wants to hear her screaming scream his name in ecstasy. Will Brax’s break his number one rule, or can he keep it professional between him and Clara.
Clara wants a tattoo, but she seems to be breaking rules, she has to figure out how to get what she wants. Three weeks after she finds herself struggling to back inside Inked as apply for a job. As the weeks, tick by things get worse for her, her car is towed and she finds an eviction notice on her pent house door. He is shocked that Brax is helping her and is concerned for her, at times she finds it hard to keep her guard up when she is around Brax.
I gave this book 5 stars, I do love it when an author switches from the rich guy, poor girl story. Shandi Boyes can make laugh at all the bantering from main characters to heart wrenching over the troubles they go through. The Opposite Effect does not revolve around all the characters her others stories have, but they are all in there at some point. Brax is Hugo and Hunters tattoo guy, Slater from Rise up his dad owns Inked, Ryan the detective is best friends with Brax, Hank the boxing trainer teaches Diesel to be boxer, and Isaac is Clara’s ex. They all combined and yet at time you have no idea how they combined. Shandi Boyes is an awesome writer and I so dont want her series to end ever.

The Opposite Effect is the eighth book in the superb Enigma series by Shandi Boyes. It is an extremely hot enemies to lover’s story, where opposites attract and a sexy adventure begins.
You would be forgiven for thinking that by book eight in a series that the storylines would begin to lag or lose a little shine, but you’d be wrong- that isn’t the case with this book (and series). If anything, Ms. Boyes seems to have found a fountain of endless imagination, a fresh reserve of enticing, complex, spicy and clever ideas on which to base her stories. She really does have a limitless well of creativity- which we get to benefit from, through her captivating stories.
Brax Anderson has a reputation as a ladies man and is considered the number on bachelor on his side of town. He is ruggedly handsome, very charming, with a panty melting smile that provides him an endless supply of women. But he is a self-proclaimed bachelor and has no intention of settling down anytime soon. In fact he has sworn off women for the foreseeable future. He works in a tattoo studio and his body is a work of art, covered in bold and beautiful tattoos.
He has always been very close to his Grandmother, who used to live with him. She would love nothing more than for him to settle down, get married and start a family. She now lives in a nursing home, but she continues to pester him about finding happiness. She is quite a character and added an extra element of enjoyment to the story.
Clara McGregor is known for being an ice princess. She’s grown up with a silver spoon in her mouth and has the attitude and fiery disposition to go with it. She has decided to live on the wild side and that includes getting a tattoo. But when a tattooist refuses to do her artwork because he thinks she’s drunk, she demands to speak to the manager. Brax takes over and does end up tattooing Clara, though it may not have been what she came in for.
When she comes back to the store to apply for the job that they had been advertising for a while, he tried to talk her out of it by explaining that she didn’t have the experience they needed. She threatened to get lawyers involved, so he hires her on a two week trial. What happens next is hot, funny, emotional, real and a little gritty.
This is another stellar instalment in a truly wonderful series.

Thank you Ms. Boyes!

The Opposite Effect
By Shandi Boyes
5 stars! (Where is the sixth one when you need it?)
This is one of those books where the review isn’t going to come easy and not because the book was awful – no far, far from awful it was just simply outstanding. I have no idea how the author comes up with her amazing storylines and characters but she just keeps knocking them out of the park with every one she writes. I literally cannot get enough of her books!
Although this book is part of the ‘Enigma’ series it can be read as a standalone but having read and loved the other books in the series I would also recommend reading them too (they really are amazing) – 8 books in and I can’t wait to go back and read them all again!
If I could write this review with only one word I would (but that’s not fair to this amazing author) and that word would just simple be ‘Brax’! No more needs to be said because Brax was just probably THE best character I have read about in a long time. I’m pretty sure my eyes have hearts in them when I think of him – if ever I wanted a character to be real it’s him! I was always team Isaac (from previous books) but Brax has officially taken my number one spot on my book boyfriend list.
I really should probably mention the other characters! I really liked Clara! It took a while for it to click who she was but from the very start I loved her feisty attitude, the back and forth between her and Brax was so entertaining. Their chemistry was out of this world (in fact I might be slightly jealous of Clara!) and the scenes between them were scorching hot (ok I’m very jealous of her!!).
I devoured this book in one sitting; I just could not take my eyes of my kindle. I have to admit (and it’s very difficult to choose) but this is by far my favourite out of the series! It’s hard to choose because they have all been amazing reads but this one I’m just totally in love with! If there is a series worthy of reading in 2017 it’s this one – trust me you will NOT be disappointed and I know it’s only July bit I think I may have found my read of 2017!
Congratulations Ms Boyes on an amazing book and series so far. I can't wait to read whatever you write next!

Another awesome book from Shandi, never disappointed looking forward to the next book

Brax and Clara could not be any different. She’s from the rich side of town never had a job in her life, he is from the other side of town, works in a tattoo shop and body covered in wonderful art. His smile melts the heart of women all around him, well except for Clara that is.
His grandma now lives in a nursing home and this has not stopped her from trying to find a wife for her beloved grandson. Brax tells her he does not want to be settled down but this grandma is not going to give up. Love them and leave them that’s Brax’ style, no way is he going to settle down.
For now, anyway he is convinced his manhood is broken as he hasn’t wanted to be with a woman in a while now. It’s not that he hasn’t had women throwing themselves at him, he just can’t get interested in them.

Well that is until he comes face to face with the rich princess Clara. As soon as he sees her at the tattoo shop his body reacts to her straight away. Clara is there to get her first tattoo she is refused a tattoo because one of the staff thinks she is drunk, so she demands to see the manager. Brax takes over from Johnny and tells Clara no tattoos are done here when the client is not sober. Clara gets irate and told him she is totally sober and wants the tattoo. Brax gets her to sign a consent but is not happy when she tells him she wants a man’s name on her body. He asks permission to change the design and when the tattoo is done he puts princess on the tattoo not a man’s name. Problems start now not that Brax is worried.

Well now the princess is back at the shop to apply for the job that has been advertised there for a while. Brax tells her she is not experienced for what they want, she threatens him with legal action and before he knows it he has hired her on a two-week trial. Brax tells himself this is going to be the longest two weeks of his life. Clara’s job will be to book appointments and take the cash, surprising Brax as she is doing well. Now all he must do is stop his body reacting to her every time they are near.

The Opposite Effect- Shandi Boyes

5 out of 5 stars

The Opposite Effect by Shandi Boyes is an absolutely incredible read! It’s such a page-turner of a story that I read in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. It’s funny, exciting, and so intriguing. I absolutely loved Brax and Clara; their story is unique and unforgettable. I have read other books from Shandi in the past so I had high expectations and they were certainly met. She never ceases to amaze me with the amount of detail she puts into her work, it can never be described as predictable. This book is more then worthy of a 5 star.

Brax can’t help but stereotype Clara after first meeting her, with her expensive clothes and shiny jewelry, she’s clearly stumbled on the wrong side of the tracks but Brax accepts to do the tattoo she wants. Clara has quickly become a challenge, one he doesn’t want to deal with but he’s basically forced to hire her months later when she returns to the shop. He’s willing to hire her on a two-week trial run that she gladly accepts. Clara ends up being nothing like he expected, there’s so much more to her then meets the eye. He’s definitely intrigued by her as he can’t get her out of his head, but he has shop rules that need to be followed, and no hooking up with employees is an important one. Will Brax be able to follow the rules or will Clara have him wanting to break them?

Brax is one incredible man, one I’d like to label as mine! He’s strong, hard headed and at times can be really grumpy but he also has a heart of gold. He’s never one to hold back and he always gets what he wants. I would normally assume that his personality would clash with Clara’s but it totally works, they are perfect for each other. Clara is guarded, independent and so feisty; she’s not one to listen to the word no or to back down which makes her exactly what Brax needs. I loved that this story is told form Brax’s POV, normally books are told in the woman’s perspective so I really enjoyed that this one wasn’t. This is a book I would definitely recommend and as always I look forward to reading more of her work in the future!

The Opposite Effect by Shandi Boyes is a standalone novel and the eighth installment in the Enigma series. I believe out of all the rest of the books in the series this one can truly be read on its own, but I still think the reader would appreciate the other books to give more backstory.
We meet Clara McGregor in the earlier Enigma books as the spoiled sister of Cormack McGregor (Isaac from Enigma’s best friend). Clara starts off the Opposite Effect as that person, spoiled little rich girl with a silver spoon shoved so far down her throat that it’s amazing she can even talk. But life happens, poor choices are made and lessons are forced upon people.
Brax Anderson is the quintessential bad boy at first glance, tattoos – check, muscled body – check, charm – check, good looks – check. What his image hides is a heart of gold and a willingness to help those in need. The first time he meets Clara is when she comes in with a group of friends and wants Brax to tattoo a man’s name on her, he isn’t impressed with her, her attitude, or her friends. She doesn’t get her way and ends up throwing a fit and walking out of Brax’s tattoo parlor never to be seen again, or so he thinks.
Fast forward several months and Clara is back, this time to beg for a job. Without any work experience nobody wants to hire her and she is getting desperate, desperate enough to beg the handsome Brax. Brax doesn’t need the help of someone that has no experience tattooing, but ends up making a deal with Clara to have her work a probationary period for him. Will Clara be a better person than she appears? Can two people from different sides of the tracks end up being more to each other than they ever thought they could?
Having read all of the Enigma series as well as her Perception series I have to say there is always something new in each book. Ms. Boyes has not gotten repetitive or stale, there is always something interesting going on and when you crack open a new book by this author you feel as if you are once again meeting up with old friends. I love this series and I hope it keeps going for a long time to come. Thank you Shandi Boyes for another five star read!

The Opposite Effect (Enigma Book 8)
By: Shandi Boyes
5 out of 5 stars

The story The Opposite Effect (Enigma Book 8) by Shandi Boyes is a romantic/suspense book. This is the next installment in the Enigma series and I can’t say enough about how I love both this book and the entire series. The author has created a series that will have you hooked from the first story. Not only are the stories amazing so are the characters. This book is about Brax Anderson. Brax is part owner of a tattoo parlor. He is a ladies man and never has a problem finding someone to keep him company. He has wonderful friends who are more like family and a grandmother that keeps him on his toes. His life begins to change the day that he meets her. He first meets her when she wants a tattoo, then later she wants a job. He can’t seem to quite figure this woman out. She is not the typical person seeking employment and he is very curious as to her motives. He does hire her and this begins what I would call a strange dance between these two. He has an obvious interest in her, she has an attitude that is ice cold. Would a relationship between these two even work?

This is a story that I just could not put down. The bantering back and forth between this couple is like a duel. You are always wondering who will win. As the story continues there are situations that happen in which we see a different side of this couple. The walls that were so heavily guarded begin to weaken enough that it made me believe that their relationship had a chance of working. What does the future hold for this couple? Will they let each other in? Is there any chance for a happy ending? This is a story that had me amazed at some of the situations that this couple finds themselves in and also frustrated with the knowledge that they both have feelings for each other however keep holding back. There are also scenes that touched my heart and gave me hope. This story does include sexual content, adult scenes, and swear words. It would be for those over the age of 18.

The Opposite Effect by Shandi Boyes was a great read. I wasn't able to put it down. I absolutely loved the characters.

It all starts one night at the tattoo shop. Clara McGregor is a princess from the other side of the tracks. She wants a tattoo and the guys refuse to do it because she is under the influence. Once she gets rid of her friends she comes back and Brax agrees to do the tattoo until he sees the design which is of a guys name. Finally she agrees to let him make changes to the design and signs off on it without even looking at it. Clara becomes irate and walks out slamming the door. Brax has a feeling that isn't the last he has seen of Clara AKA princess.

3 months later Brax seems to think his member is no working properly. Ever since he saw Clara, he can't get her out of his mind. Both heads cannot stop thinking of her. Then, she shows up at the tattoo shop looking for a job. After telling Clara over and over she isnt qualified, Brax sees her standing at a bus stop. He offers her a ride home on the back of his bike but of course she refuses.

Something has happened in the 3 months since Clara got her tattoo. Now she has no money, she's looking for a job paying minimum wage and is taking a bus.

She ends up working at the tattoo shop and everyone begins to have a good working relationship. Clara has a string of bad luck and Brax ends up becoming very close to her. He helps her with a lot of stuff and even has her stay in his apartment for a while.

So much happens in this book. It keeps you very interested. In the book we find out about Clara's past, her ex boyfriend, her friend in a long term car facility and why she now has nothing except the clothes and jewelry she has. What happens when a family
member steps up and offers to handle Clara. Will Brax lose the girl he is falling for or were they meant to be?

The Opposite Effect by Shandi Boyes is book 8 in her Enigma series. This is the first book that I’ve read by her, and while I was a bit saddened that I picked it up way into the series, I enjoyed it a lot.
Right from the beginning I was pulled in, and reading page after page there was no getting out. It was an incredible read. Just when you think that there’s no better thing than an independent, and determined beautiful woman, we get this alpha male who is more than we can ask for. Who wouldn’t want an honest, hardworking and protective man? I know I would, no doubt about that!
During my entire reading time I kept hoping that maybe, just maybe Clara would let her guard down and allow others in. It’s hard to let people in when you have secrets, but by doing this you miss out on so much. Others miss out on enjoying you as a person. It’s better to let go of the past and start new, no matter how much it hurts or causes guilt.
This certain quote from the book spoke millions to me. “It isn’t that her hardhearted eyes are truth-exposing, it is the fact there isn’t a single sign of life in her eyes, let alone the drunk shimmer most inebriated people get. Her eyes make it feel like I am looking into an empty pit. They are void of any type of soul.”
As a reader you can see the pain and emptiness in the character and can’t help but feel sad and a bit helpless.

Then we have Brax, he never brings home a woman, he doesn't do relationships and he never mixes business with pleasure. It’s like a top rule! He has employees and a family whom he adores and respects so much. His other side, the alpha side is just as protective of anyone as a security guard would be. He tries to do the right thing for the right reasons, but sometimes he has a difficult time handing things over to someone else.
Overall, it was a great read, and can’t wait for what’s next. 5 stars.

The Opposite Effect
by: Shandi Boyes
5 Stars

Brax Anderson, at first glance is your very gorgeous bad boy. He has muscles in all the right places, loads of charm, and a heart of gold ready to always help those in need. He is part owner of a tattoo parlor and quite the ladies man who has no problems finding someone to keep him company. His grandma is a hoot and she keeps him honest and on his toes. It is her mission in life to marry him off and her constant butting in has him back pedaling the other way. No way is he ready to take that plunge.
The first time he meets Clara McGregor is when she comes into the shop with a bunch of her friends demanding he tattoo a man's name on her virgin skin. Brax has a rules and one of them is if they want a name tattooed they have to have a ring in their finger or in a committed relationship. So he tells her oh and she throws a fit and walks out. Clara is a spoiled Bratt born with a silver spoon in her mouth.
But Clara has pushed her family and friends away and she is down on her luck with no money and she needs a job in the worst way. She does not have money for her car so she is forced to ride the public bus. So Brax feels sorry for her and gives her a two week trial and if it done not work out they part ways.
The more Brax is around Clara the more he wants her really bad. She gives him as good and be gives her which just turns him on more. Clara is learning lessons that she needed years ago. She proves to be a hard worker and slowly her walls start to break down. Will Brax and Clara be a ke to make a relationship work. What will happen when someone from her family steps up to help her. Will Brax lose the girl he is falling for. You.must read to find out. It starts off slow. it keep reading it gets better, so much better.

The Opposite Effect written by Shandi Boyes
5 stars

Shandi Boyes does it again. She pulled me in and let me get lost in page after page of an incredible read. The only thing better than a silver spooned, determined, independent, witty, stubborn beautiful woman is...a honest, hard working, protective, alpha who's word means everything.

The whole time I was reading this book I just kept hoping that Clara aka Princess would put down her guard and let others in. She has secrets and reasons for acting the way she does, but she is missing out on so much by hanging on to past mistakes and her feelings of guilt.

“It isn’t that her hardhearted eyes are truth-exposing, it is the fact there isn’t a single sign of life in her eyes, let alone the drunk shimmer most inebriated people get. Her eyes make it feel like I am looking into an empty pit. They are void of any type of soul.”

Brax never brings home a woman, he doesn't do relationships and he never mixes business with pleasure. He also has made his employees his family and adores and respects the feisty woman that raised him. As Alpha as he is he tries to do the right thing for the right reasons, but sometimes he has a difficult time leaving things in other people's hands...especially when someone close to him is put in harm's way.

“But this little game I'm playing with Clara feels different. It isn't your standard game of cat and mouse. It's…it's… I don't know what the f*** it is.”

The only good thing about seeing the words The End is the way this book ended has me feeling there is another Shandi masterpiece in the works!

The Opposite Effect by Shandi Boyes is the eighth book in her Enigma series and she is absolutely brilliant! I have read every single one of her Enigma books and absolutely love the crazy world with those amazing characters that she has created! You come to Ravenshoe and you never want to leave!
The Opposite Effect is the story of Brax Anderson and Clara McGregor. We met Clara in some of the previous books and I tell you, I did not like her, not at all, she was an ice princess born with a silver spoon in her mouth and had an attitude to go with it! Brax is a ladies man and rules his side of the town which is the wrong side of the town … He is handsome and charming and has no intentions whatsoever of settling down any time soon … and … hold it … he has amazing tattoos and he manages a tattoo studio while also creating beautiful body art himself. His grandmother is a total hoot and is trying to set him up with different women as her dearest wish is to see him married with kids!
I think you can imagine what happens when a girl and a boy from opposite sides of the town meet and the sparks go off … Thank you Shandi for giving us Clara’s story, thank you for giving us a sassy woman that we surprisingly can relate to though one would never ever think so when thinking what we know of her … I laughed and I cried and I sat on the edge of my seat and just kept reading and reading and reading … until THE END. I am so relieved to see that she has the next book under works and I hope she will not keep us waiting too long! Please, please, keep them going and I hope we will get many more stories out of Ravenshoe gang …

The Opposite Effect by Shandi Boyes is the eighth book in the Enigma Series and each time, the author blows me away with where she has taken this series and where she takes these characters. I would definitely read the other books in the series before starting this one, just because there are glimpses of previous characters. Each time I read one from this series, I think that it's going to be my favorite, but this time, Brax is definitely my favorite! It was an amazing 5 stars!

Brax Anderson is the hottest bachelor in Ravenshoe, he's got the rugged looks and a smile that could literally stop traffic. His life is great, he can't imagine wanting more. He gets to spend a few hours between the sheets with some bunnies, and he's got some great friends and family. He has no intention of settling down anytime soon, the bunnies keep him more than occupied. But you know what they say about love finding you when you least except it? That's exactly what happens to Brax, when he least expected, a girl from the other side of the tracks enters his life, she's fiesty, she's sassy and she's everything that Brax didn't know he wanted. So will he figure out how to get his fiesty, firey girl all to himself? Or will she tell him to get lost? Can these two from opposite sides of the track mesh together? Is that old saying true, do opposites really attract?

Holy hottness! Everyone and I mean everyone needs to read this book! Brax is the next book boyfriend and Shandi Boyes has created another amazing addition to her series!

The Opposite Effect
Enigma Book 8
By Shandi Boyes
☆☆☆☆☆
This book is part of a series. It is important you read the others in this series. Although this is just my opinion.

Clara McGregor, little rich girl. AKA Princess, she thinks she is so much better than the less fortunate. But really she is down on her luck, no money and trying to adjust. She has pushed her family and friends away. Has poor self esteem, and while she is trying to get her life together, she has lessons to learn . But she gets a job, a new apartment, and is trying to be a better person.

Brax Anderson, bachelor with the good looks to make every woman swoon. Raised by his grandma. No commitments, None! NO! Not going to happen. Owns a tattoo shop and is great at his job. He treats his employees like family, and will give you the shirt off his back. Now in walks Princess, and his body will not walk away. He is not interested and the number one rule at the shop. No dating anybody in the family. Can this Beast tame the Princess, does he want to?

With every book in this series, I have said “ this is my favorite one” in the series. This story deal with opposites. Once enemies, now romantic lovers. Shandi Boyes has brought this amazing group of friends and tells their story. Every couple is different, every couple must work through some hard times. As we all know nothing in life is easy. She gets you on page one and keeps you turning the pages. This story contains so hot love scenes and swear words. Therefore not suitable for those under 18.

The Opposite Effect by Shandi Boyes is the eighth book in the Enigma series but can be read as a standalone. It’s a wonderful love story about the love you have for the family choose, friends and lovers, as well as the family you are given. I didn’t want to put it down at all, I needed to know what happened to these two, complex people.

The story is told from Brax’s point of view and what a point of view it is. Brax is a definite alpha male who doesn’t take nonsense from anyone. He is decidedly loyal and it shows in the care he has for his friends and employees. When Clara comes into his tattoo parlor full of sass and vinegar it is quite delightful to watch him handle what she dishes out. Clara comes in with an attitude and she knows it and when we find out why it only makes the scene better.

Brax is one of the best male characters I have read. The way he sees past the wall around Clara made me love him even more. Clara was a bit of a handful from when we meet her and I wasn’t sure if I was going to like her. It took a couple of encounters for me to see what she was trying so hard to hide. In the end, I came to love her as much as I did Brax and was rooting for her to get her man. The lessons Clara learns about herself are well portrayed and not cliché in any way.

Shandi Boyes has written a stellar story that takes you on a journey with these two characters and the destination is a beautiful place. So much so that I have added the rest of the series to my TBR!

The Opposite Effect by Shandi Boyes is the eighth book in the Enigma series and a four star novel. This book can be read as a standalone. Brax is a 28 year old tattooed hottie. He loves working at the tattoo parlor, Inked, and has decided to buy into half the business so that his friend can spend some more quality time with his family. Since Brax is single, this works out well for him and he has the money put away in savings. He also takes care of his grandmother who is a spitfire. He loves talking with her because she has the mind of a twenty something man. Even though he has recently had to put her in a care facility, he still goes to see her and makes sure she is being well taken care of. The only part that annoys him is when she sets her sights on finding him a wife, which happens quite frequently. Even in the nursing home she still tries to set him up with the nurses who are single. He tries to tell her all the nice, educated girls are not the kind who would take him home to meet their parents. When Clara comes into the tattoo shop, he knows he is in for a fight with her. She was there three months ago and she got a tattoo that he unknowingly to her changes up a little and she was not too happy with it even though she signed the appropriate paperwork before he started. She came in to try to find a job and he really did try to turn her away because she is an uppity white girl and should not be parading herself in this part of town. Little does he know about the issues she is facing and how traumatized she is right now by having to ask this man for her help.

Book Review: The Opposite Effect (Enigma Volume 8)
Author: Shandi Boyes
FIVE STARS
Shandi Boyes and her Enigma series are amazing books. The Alpha Males are super hot and the sexual tension and desires in all of the series is just outstanding. Per the authors words, this disclaimer must be made. The scenes are hot, the main man is even hotter, and the storyline is gritty and real. Recommended for audiences over the age of 18 due to sexual content, adult scenes, and swear words. If hot alpha men with big hearts and rough exteriors scare you, this may not be the book for you.
If you haven't yet picked up the Enigma series of books you really should. Strong Alpha males with strong females and connections between them is palpable. Steamy sex and a great story line make for an amazing read that you won't want to put down.
This a romance/suspense book much like the others in the Enigma series. The Opposite Effect can be read as a stand alone so no fear whatsoever in thinking you might be missing something if you start with this book. You will however want to read all of the other books in this series once you read this and realize how amazing the characters are and how good Shandi Boyes is at her writing.
This is written from the POV of Brax, our leading man and he has his sites set on Clara. The conflicts between the two and the build up of their relationship both working and personal is astounding. I cannot find enough adjectives in my vocabulary that will do justice to this book. I can just say this. READ IT.

The Opposite Effect – Enigma Series Book 8 – by Shandi Boyes

The Opposite Effect is book 8 in The Enigma Series and while I think the whole series should be read because they are awesome, it is my belief that this story CAN be read as a standalone.

Brax Anderson ~sigh~ is the classic alpha male. He never brings a woman home to his apartment, he always uses a condom, and he never makes love. He is from the “wrong side of town” and is partial owner to a tattoo shop. Clara McGregor is an ice queen, poor little rich girl who is used to getting her own way by steamrolling over them and using her riches to back her attitude. Brax and Clara could not be more different.

This book is one of my favorites of the series. There are a couple of quick glimpses of previous characters and a little bit of crossover on points of views from previously written scenes, but this story stands on its own. Brax and Clara have a dynamic together that made me wince and smile all at the same time. Her sass and brass shines through her rich girl persona.

Two of my favorite quotes from this book:

“A broken heart never mends. But it can swell to accommodate more people in it.”

“…you can always hold onto the piece of my heart that you’ve already stolen until yours fully *****” (word starred because I feel like it could be a wee bit of a spoiler)

I really FLOVED this book. I highly recommend the entire series.

The Opposite Effect by Shandi Boyes
Five Stars

The Opposite Effect is the eighth book in the Enigma Series by Shandi Boyes. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend you read the series in order to get the full effect and the storyline runs through all of the books so you will have more information on all the characters. I love Ms. Boyes writing style, the characters are brilliant and the witty dialog brings this book to life. This book with its suspenseful twists and turns and hot sexual encounters has to be the best book yet by Ms Boyes. Brax is my new book boyfriend- love him!!

Brax Anderson is an Alpha male, who owns a tattoo parlor and stays as far away from relationships as possible. He is more of a one and done kind of guy. He is also a sweet loving guy to his grandmother and his friends, he just wants nothing to do with being attached.

Clara walks into Brax’s shop looking for a job. They feel an instant attraction for one another, but both are afraid to act on it because of thing that have happened in the past. Clara is opinionated and snobbish at first. The witty dialog will have you laughing out loud. She is a rich girl from the other side of the tracks and she is hiding thing from her past. Will these two learn to trust and have a relationship? Will Opposites attract?

I love all of Shandi’s books, but I think this is my favorite so far. I just can't wait to see what Shandi has coming up next for the readers.
