The Almosts #1-3

The Almosts: The Complete Trilogy

A real job? In this economy? Maybe robbing banks isn’t such a terrible idea after all…

Kara had always been good with computers. She was autistic. Go figure. But when she finds herself caught in the middle of a bank heist and able to see impossible things, she starts to figure that there might be more to it than that.

After losing her job, she’s out of options, so when a woman appears in her house claiming to be some kind of witch, telling Kara that she has the ability to magically control machines, and offering her a job with her heist crew, Kara hesitates before throwing her out.

Maybe there are worse places for a quasi-magical autistic woman to be than on the wrong side of the law…

THE ALMOSTS: THE COMPLETE STORY compiles all three books in The Almosts Trilogy, a series of paranormal heist novellas set within L.C. Mawson’s urban fantasy Snowverse.

Content warning: This book deals with graphic violence, including sexual violence. Readers of other Snowverse series will find darker content that isn't present in most of the Snowverse.

Some say she's an ancient creature of nightmare that was unleashed from beneath the ocean, come to devour the souls of men. Others say that she's a cosmic being from the beyond the stars that has taken corporeal form to learn our ways for some unknown end...

In truth, L.C. Mawson lives in a tower in the middle of a haunted forest, far from civilisation and is definitely not a witch who curses those who trespass upon her land. And she definitely cannot turn into a dragon that flies over cities in the dead of night and whose cries are often mistaken for an approaching storm. Where did you hear that? That's absurd...

The only contact she has with humanity is publishing books every so often, which is definitely just for fun and not part of an ancient contract with a trickster god.

This is an incredibly inventive fun series. The star, Kara, is an autistic IT pro. In book 1 she gets caught in the middle of a bank robbery by...wait for it...effectively a band of witches. I mean what else do you call a gang of gals who can disappear and reappear at will, punch men through walls, change clothing instantaneously, etc. Bad news is that poor Kara gets fired after this. Good news is that she discovers she has a bit of magic herself - and the witch gang does too and recruits her as it's a (really) valuable sort of magic for thieves to have (but no, I've said almost too much already, so I won't spoil this and tell you what it is). Zany, exciting (make that thrilling) adventures ensue. Each book is very well written and plotted, from the first book with its introduction of what's going on up through betrayal and consequences (I'm trying to be vague here as I don't want to spoil things, the second book with its power armor and mission to steal Excalibur from Demons in order to be able to trade it for a spell to get a certain ghost out of Kara's head, to the third book with its suicidal mission foisted on the gang by a certain somebody who is inconveniently back from the dead. These are great adventures for a well crafted and fun lead and her supporting characters to encounter. I'm really glad I could follow along for the ride. Most highly recommended.

This trilogy was a fun read, about a group of misfit Humans with just a trace of Magical blood (Vampyre, Werewolf, Dwarf etc). They team up as The Almosts to use their abilities, boosted by Source Stones (power boosters) and other magical trinkets, to steal stuff and cause havoc, usually on behalf of Peter, the leader of the Fae we met in the Freya Snow books, who wants to reveal magic and restart the war between humans and various supernatural beings again. I enjoyed the trilogy very much, and really like the individual characters we get to know throughout. It's definitely a good read for all Snowverse and fantasy lovers, and I highly recommend it!
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

This trilogy is a really good set of novellas to accompany the Freya Snow books. The plot of this series is a lot darker than other books in that universe but it is still enjoyable.

This series follows Kara and aromantic autistic woman as she finds herself out of a job and then working for a group of people called the “Almosts” which are basically people who possess very minimum magic and are ostracized by magical society. The series follows Kara’s journey as she deals with hardships that the job brings and how to manage her emotions.

Book 3 ended up being my favorite in this series but all were good. Book 3 felt very action packed and the loose ends in the story were tied very well into the Freya Snow series and other arcs that are a part of that universe.

Enjoyed this so much. our main hero is an autistic young lady named Fiona. First she gets caught in a bank robbery, then she loses her job and is approached by the same people that robbed the bank. They want her to join them and they all have MAGIC. Oh and she finds out that she has magic too.
The nice thing about having a box set...you don't have to wait for the next book to come out. These three books take from the beginning of the story to the end of Fiona's association with Moria. Now we have the story continuing with Lady Caroline to look forward to. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Fun characters and an intriguing plot make this a really good read. Somewhat different from some of her others but every bit as enjoyable. Stopping right now before I slip into spoilers!
