Real-Life Korean Conversations For Beginners includes 40 dialogues that you face in real-life. At the beginning of each chapter, there is a short two-line dialogue to serve as a preview of the longer 12 or 13-line main dialogue. Previewing the shorter dialogue first will make studying the main dialogue seem a bit easier! Each dialogue has an English translation, a vocabulary list, grammar exercises, and pronunciation exercises to help increase study efficacy. There is even a related cultural tip to help put each dialogue in perspective. All dialogues and words in this book have corresponding audio files recorded by native speakers to help with proper pronunciation and the development of listening skills. Not quite as good as Easy Korean Reading For Beginners, in my opinion. The grammar sections here were a bit pointless, and I think I learnt a lot more about sentence structure from Easy Korean Reading, but perhaps that is logical as the focus here is casual conversation rather than different texts with more variety. I just think the grammar sections were superfluous and could have been omitted. The audio files and transcript themselves are excellent, as always from TTMIK. I've been dipping in and out of this book for nearly a year, and will now move on to the next in the series Real-Life Korean Conversations : Intermediate, which I bought at the same time. Think I'm moving past the need for textbooks, but I still find them helpful to give structure to my studying when I'm stuck.
2 years ago I opened this textbook but gave up after couple units. Last week I realized I can understand 80% of the materials now. I hate traditional textbooks but this one is all natural conversation. The only caveat is I hope there would be less gender stereotypes between the two speakers.
I found this book very useful for me to practise conversations with my language exchange partner. It has helped improve my reading of 한글 and improve my pronunciation. Also it has helped me learn new vocabulary and improve my sentences.
40 quick convos, great for beginners. You can download the audio files for free from the TTMIK website, the teachers speak slow enough to understand easily, however not to slow that it becomes too boring.
