This prince's Pea won't fit under the mattress...but the truth will!
Micah grew up in the Zapato orphanage, and is proud to take over Abuelo Zapato's role of providing for the family--the children that have become his siblings--in Everland's leather-goods shop. Since being scarred in one of his brother-in-law's gunfights, he knows those kids are the only family he'll ever have. And he's at peace with that...until fate--or the Guild of Godmothers--drops two unexpected females in his path.
When his old childhood friend Penelope--Pea--shows up just in time to save him from a gruesome death, Micah is smitten. And when he sees her cuddling the new baby orphan, he's in love.
But Pea isn't in Everland on a whim; she's there on a mission regarding Micah's past, and refuses to tell him the truth. That secret is going to tear them apart, unless they get some help from a particularly dopey Godmother.
And that's when everything goes wrong...
The Everland series has a Heat Level of 1/5 (suitable for all audiences, with some harsh language) #HistoryWithHeart
I liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. The Princess and the Pea were never one of my favorite fairytales. In fact, I don't remember a lot of the original tale. But I'm so in love with this retelling of it. The story was just so heartwarming and I've always liked Micah and I'm so happy to see him get his happily ever after.
How I choose my rating: 1* Didn't like it at all. These are rare as I usually just don't finish any book I dislike this much. 2** Didn't like it. Again usually DNF if I dislike it this much, but occasionally I feel it still has potential and I try to stick with it to the end. 3*** I liked it. It wasn't great but it was enjoyable enough. It is unlikely I'll ever reread it but I might finish the series if it is a part of one. 4**** I really liked this book. Maybe not a work of genius, but highly entertaining. I might reread this at some point, and I will almost always finish the series if part of one. 5***** I loved this book. I found little to no issues with it at all. I will probably reread this and possibly more than once. I will definitely finish the series if it's part of one.
Another win for Caroline Lee. Her Everland series is a must read for fans of fairy tales and fans of westerns. It's like John Wayne and the Brothers Grimm had a love child and created Everland. The Prince's Pea gives us a new take on the Princess and the Pea and it gives us a different look at who a hero can be. 5 stars again, I love the entire series. I received an advanced reader's copy in exchange for my honest review.
Micah ends up in a New York City orphanage with a bump on his head and no idea how he arrived there. He meets a precocious girl, Penelope, who he calls ‘Pea’. Decades after he is adopted into another family-style orphanage out west, in a town called Everland, Pea arrives in search of him. She saves him from an inappropriate hanging. With their childish friendship renewed, and stronger feelings growing, she cannot tell him her real reason for searching him out. The rest is a great story with fantastic characters, sadness, a fire, and joy. Babies, too!
This is a sweet western romance, with a likeable couple. It is fairly short, though, so there isn't a lot of character development -- I would especially have liked to know more about what happened to Penelope in the years she and Micah were separated.
This story features childhood friends who reconnect as adults, and realize they have always loved each other, which made for a fun read. I did think that the resolution at the end of the book was a little too easy -- but that's OK, since romances books are often escapist fantasies.
The entire series is a creative take on fairy tales, setting them in a historical Western town. It is always fun to see how the author makes each story fit a particular fairy tale. This story, though, just reminds of "The Princess and the Pea" because of the title and the H's last name --the story actually has no relation to that fairy tale.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
I really loved this newest story to the Everland series. I really think that each new book for the Everland series gets better and better. Caroline Lee really writes fairytales in a really new and unique way and I love what she has done with The Prince’s Pea. Micah and Penelope were old best friends from the orphanage in New York. He couldn’t remember a thing except some glimpse of people. She took charge of him and became his best friend, sticking by him and teaching him to read. Twenty years later they are reunited in a really unusual way. You have got to read this story which has characters of course in Everland and a new godmother Dorcas who is really as unusual as they come and they are all unusual. But she is even more outrageous and unconventional in her workings. This is a most wonderful story that you just have to read and you will laugh, cry, say Yes and then oh no as this up and down adventure just starts out in an unconventional way and ends up in such a happy way. But it took a bit to get there. A lot of things that happen, good things and bad things, and wonderful things.
I highly recommend you read this book and if you haven’t read the rest of the Everland stories it is a must. You learn about all the towns’ quirky characters especially the godmothers and they are a quirky bunch,
I received this ARC at from the author but was not in anyway asked to do a review or was compensated in anyway. This review is my honest and
I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review. This has quickly become one of my favorite series. The Prince's Pea was just as captivating as the others I have read. The characters are well developed; the plot is paced perfectly; the writing flows and instantly transports the reader into the story. I was so happy to read Micah's story and to see things from his perspective. Penelope was a strong, independent, complex, and realistic heroine. It's always fun when characters we've met and love are mentioned, and we encounter quite a few throughout this novel. I loved the depth and focus of family emphasized, as well as the idea that dreams can and do change and we need to be willing to accept those changes and go after those new dreams. I would absolutely recommend this novel and the entire series to anyone who loves fairytale retellings, romance, and absolutely amazing writing.
This is a great story! I definitely think this is my favorite, not only in this series but from this author! The characters are great and you can't help but like them. And it's wonderful to catch up with characters from the other stories. This author has a special way of writing that makes you feel like you are there. I also loved the diversity in this book, the author uses a little bit of Spanish in her stories, and I love it! I also didn't feel like the story was rushed, but that there was enough time for the events to unfold. I love the author's writing style. I also enjoyed the major themes in the book, love, selflessness, and sacrifice. I loved it. And I'd definitely recommend it. I would love to read it again soon!!
This was a super cute story. I enjoy the world set up for Everland. These books are fun and short. It’s great how the different fairy tales and characters are intertwined in town. These are fun twists.
I realize the “heat level” is 1/5, suitable for everyone, but my only disappointment is oblique references to a male being physically aroused. These have appeared in at least the two books I’ve read most recently and make it so I can’t recommend this series to my young adult and my more sensitive friends. I really enjoyed this series and would love to recommend them wholeheartedly, but I can’t because of those instances.
I received a complimentary copy a d I reviewed voluntarily. Aww what a fabulous series I just love these books I could not put it down Caroline has done it again created a fascinating story which just pulls you in making you feel like your there watching it unfold. Pea found herself falling head over heels and that everything she thought she wanted was in fact not. In Everland godmothers are always plotting there next victims so I am waiting for there next one.
I'm not sure I can even express how much I loved this book! Micah and Pea surely deserved their love story, and I thoroughly enjoyed the backstory that went along with it. The events developed naturally and weren't rushed, and although very mildly depicted, there was no question that the main characters had a great depth of feeling for each other... both emotional and physical. I think this is my favorite Everland story so far!!
Rating 2 (mild swearing and reference to sexuality) I received an ARC copy of this book in return for my honest review
Love these fairy tale adaptations! This story's twist is in its title The prince's pea. And the story tells of a girl named pea and the orphaned friend who turns out to be someone else! It's a tale of love, the real everlasting kind, more important than anything else. Gives me chills thinking about it and you will definitely enjoy this story! Caroline Lee keeps building Evermore, one tale at a time! Love it!
The Godmothers are at it again. I love this series. Each one is loosely woven around a well known fairy tale and set in the odd western town of Ever land. Pea and Micah were orphans together until Micah went out west to join a new family. When Pea realizes that her employer is actually Micah's father, she sets out to find her lost friend. I laughed, I cried, I couldn't put it down. I love, love, love this series.
Cute. I liked the twist. It was pretty cute and I like the Pea and Miach together. Enjoyed it. And I think that it's cool how it was done. And if you wanted to read this before the other books bc it's hard to find the princess and the pea retellings it would be ok, but you might want to read the first three (Or the first and second one) before you read this one, but if you read this one b4 it would be all good. I think that it's super good, and a wonderful take on the fairytale.
Caroline writes another wonderful Everland Ever After love story. In this reverse retelling of the The Princess and the Pea, it's Micah and Penelope's turn to find a Happily Ever After. I love the Godmothers involved with this tale. Read this series in order for maximum enjoyment. They are light, quick reads that always leave a smile on your face.
This is not your childs version of the Fairy tale. Caroline Lee has put a totally new & fresh spin on this story. It was so good I stayed up all night reading this. You will not be disappointed.
In my option this is the best book yet in this series. Entertaining yet heartwarming at the same time. Loved the personality of each of the orphans. This book reminds all that family doesn't always mean blood but heart. Loved the ending.
Well done modernization of fairy tales. The little village that raises families and proves that money and things are not as full filling as love and family and friends to walk the path of life with you.
Caroline Lee offers an incredibly fun, different take on a classic fairytale that you won't be able to put down. Pea's story is heartwarming, suspenseful and fun. I love the depth of the characters in this delightful tale and I enjoyed every moment of the story!
This wonderful sweet romance fairytale will remind you of what's truly priceless!!! I'm still tearing up after that ending!! Caroline is am amazing author and I think the sweet baby is exactly like her own "Princess Wiggles"!!!
A variation of the Princess and the Pea reunites orphans Micah and Penelope after a 20 year separation. Plenty of twists and turns in this addition to the Everland series.
Cute story showing that family is everything. A father has found Pea to find his son she knew in an orphanage. She decides he loves his life and would hate city life. ! Babs
An interesting story about amnesia, mixed up names, discoveries, finding the truth and being afraid to share it,the fire at the orphanage and so much more in this exciting tale
