This passage made me want to get the book:

Asks Amma: "Shall we know one another in Heaven? Shall we love and remember?"....
....
The wise old PILGRIM'S PROGRESS has something about this: Valiant-for-truth says, 'Some make a question whether we shall know one another when we are there.' To this Great-heart replies, 'Do you think they shall know themselves then, or that they shall rejoice to see themselves in that bliss? and [sic] if they think they shall know and do these, why no know others, and rejoice in their welfare also?' And Secret, speaking to Christiana says, 'They will all be glad when they hear the sound of thy feet step over thy Father's threshold.' We know that our loved ones who have gone before will be glad when they hear the sound of our feet on the threshold; and we know that we shall all be glad together when we gather in our Father's House, where 'there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.' " (Rev. 21.4; p. 94)

Once again, my copy of this book slipped out of my hands and into another's. And instead of buying another copy of this book for myself, I bought one for my mother. Which means that the next time I purchase a copy of it, I'm going to have to purchase two. One to have on hand to give away to the next person I meet who'd enjoy it as much as I have. This could become a problem since it is out of print and eventually the available copies are going to run out and after I write this review that may happen even faster than I anticipate, which means I may have to visit amazon when I'm done.
All that to say this is the kind of book one reads, and then reads again and in between the readings you share what you've read with others.

This is not a biography of Amy Carmicheal. This is simply a well-written book about Amy Carmicheal's life, or rather of different times in her life and how her faith served her well during the challenges she faced, in conjunction with challenges Christians in today's world may and do face.

It is an inspiring and encouraging read. Best read in small doses as it is a meaty read, full of bits that end up being written out as memorable quotes and posted around one's home.

Do buy a copy and enjoy a spiritual feast --- just leave a copy or 2 for me. :)

This was an encouraging book filled with meaningful quotes from the writings of Amy Carmichael. The only negative I would say is that Skoglund uses many contemporary examples from her own ministry, but I wanted the book for Carmichael's testimony, nor Skoglund's.

I’m a big fan of Amy Carmichael so I enjoyed this compendium of her writings. The author has gleaned from Carmichael’s writings and organized these bits into chapters based on themes such as prayer and suffering. The author does contribute some of her own thoughts and experiences but the book is primarily Carmichael’s writing. If you’re not familiar with Carmichael’s writings this book could be a first step. I would suggest taking no more than a chapter at a time, and allow for plenty of think time.

For me this book merely wet my appetite to go straight to Carmichael herself.

Great overview of the life lessons of Amy Carmichael using lots of her own words.
