"Kiss & Tell" is the "Pretty Woman" of lesfic, only better.

Any book that involves an escort generally places it into a less serious category giving us an erotica, fantasy or fetish-like slant. An author touching on this subject matter could easily get away with less quality writing. Though this book does have its more serious side it also ticks off some fantasy and erotica boxes. But, I'll say that other "legit" f/f romance authors could take a page out of Cynthia Dane/Hildred Billings toolkit because their leads, for the short time they're together, actually have some intimacy and heat!

Be still my heart, Madison and Victoria actually have conversations! And reveal vulnerabilities with each other that they don't normally share. Their story is told through ongoing interactions which makes their growing romance believable. I liked Madison's (the escort's) personality quite a bit and Victoria was certainly sympathetic.

The authors did a really good job establishing the characters and giving them credible motivations. It's because of this, what could be a cheaper story ends up having more weight and earns my appreciation. I also welcomed how the authors chose to resolve the situation in the end. It was unexpected and different.

The book is a solid fauxmance romance with steamy scenes and some comedy here and there. And though Madison and Victoria know each other for a fairly short time, because they do get so close, it didn't feel like instalove. I also enjoyed how sexual orientation was explored.

The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was that Victoria objectifies Madison's body parts quite often in the beginning so it feels more like a male gaze type thing. At the same time, it establishes the attributes that makes Madison stand out in her profession. But, I'd say it dinged Victoria's character some for me. It's a minor gripe.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story and would recommend.

“Kiss & Tell” is, in many ways, an enjoyable story with two frequently likable MCs. But both the story and the MCs are flawed in many ways, and there were many parts of the story I did not enjoy, and the MCs were often either unlikeable or unbelievable.

I don’t seem to be able to put one review on hold and move on to others….so I’ve built up a huge backlog of twelve finished books to review while I sort out my opinion and rating for this one. Time to start typing….as I begin, I’m still not sure how this review will end.

What I liked:

• The “fake girlfriend” storyline. I just love this plot-line and always look forward to one woman and then the other and then both characters realizing that “fake” has become “real”! Bonus points for one of the women being straight and discovering her fluidity ;)

• This quote: it’s good to be best friends with your partner, but not at the expense of your romance. That’s what separates her from your other best friends, you know? So many of my friends’ (and my) relationship problems could be avoided by remembering this!

• The buildup to sex scenes, and the sex scenes themselves, were very hot!

What I did not like:

• Reminders of what it really means to be an “escort”, such as ”I don’t care if he’s got leprosy, you know how it goes when you need the cash” Ewwww

• Madison initially played Victoria for money, and I never accepted that she really fell in love with Victoria. Victoria sums up her understanding of their relationship very accurately: “What do I think? I think….that you are a selfish woman who is only using me for my money and my pussy-eating skills”

• Victoria is going crazy after a couple weeks without sex. Clearly, the author has no understanding of a serious dry spell!

• Super successful and hot and trust-fund heiress Victoria falls hard for her hired hooker because, hmmm….because she has nice tits….that’s about all it seems.

• Hiring an escort because she can be discreet just doesn’t seem plausible if you’re going to be in highly publicized photos with her internationally. Someone’s going to notice and talk to the press.

• Even after Madison supposedly realizes she’s fallen for Victoria, she happily fills out a sex-worker questionaire, trying to get hired at a new brothel: ”Of course Madison had been in a gangbang before! Was that a serious question? And fetishes? Pft. Well, she wasn’t into certain body fluids touching her skin, but everything else depended on the client.” I really really really hope that when a woman falls in love with me she’s not looking forward to having sex with any man or woman willing to pay her, in any manner he/she/they want!!!!!

• The ending.

My conclusion:

Well, after typing my likes and dislikes, it turns out I disliked the book and the characters more than I felt at the time. It’s a weird feeling to sort of like a book but not really liking the characters or their initial or ending circumstances. I wanted to like Victoria despite her lying to all of her readers after Anna left. I wanted to like Madison, waiting for her to be like Julia Roberts. Just didn’t happen. So….2* for the story and the characters, 4* for the sex and quality of writing….3* overall.

I know I am quite late to this party, but I am happy I joined, although I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. The fake-relationship troupe is not an original one, however I'll admit this was done extremely well.

I was a bit uncomfortable to find one of the romantic leads, Madison, works as professional escort. This did make me somewhat apprehensive to start the book, but I found that Cynthia Dane did a remarkable job with the romance. The other protagonist, Victoria, shared my trepidation about starting a "relationship" with an escort, which made me feel like my own concerns were valid. Their constant back and forth was amusing and I found myself absorbed in their story.

The romance itself I enjoyed a great deal. There was certainly a lot of it, which was appropriate for the story considering Madison's line of work. The relationship was a struggle for both woman as they learned how to approach the idea of a relationship due to their unusual circumstances. I worked for them. Although more importantly, it worked for me.

As outlandish as this may sound, the entire story was implausibly realistic. If there was a time I could believe a hooker and a business woman could find a happy ending in each other, it would be with Cynthina Dane's "Kiss and Tell".

Victoria has written a book about successfully maintaining lesbian relationships and is just about to do an international book tour when she discovers her partner of five years in the process of moving out. Because her partner was reclusive and agoraphobic, her face and name are not known to the general public so her agent suggests getting a stand-in in order to save face and the book tour. Reluctant at first, Victoria allows her agent to arrange an escort. Madison has a small tax problem, has just lost her client who had her on retainer and isn't getting new gigs as quickly as she hoped. A two week job with no sex required seems like a good deal.

I wasn't enthralled by my last Dane/Billings read but I enjoyed this one. The characters aren't imbued with a whole lot of emotion but I didn't really mind that here. Madison's profession as a sex worker isn't shied away from and it brought some realism to the story. So often sex workers are given a glossy sheen that almost says "yes I tried it but I didn't inhale". I quite liked Madison's forthrightness about her profession and what she would do to enhance her career. What also appealed to me was that the transactional nature of relationships was highlighted to some extent.

Rich woman and a hot escort 3.5

So I think I've read all the books so far in the series...at least the ones involving "Diamon Dykes" such as they are termed in the book. This is the latest installment and it fits with the rest of them. Nothing outstandingly different or extraordinary but fans of the series will enjoy it nonetheless...I did. I mean rich woman hot escort and first time experience with a woman.
Its free on kindle like the rest and does have some return characters from previous books. Not that you need to have read them. I gvie it 3.5* and will definitely read the next one cause its me.

"Make-believing we're together
That I'm sheltered by your heart
But in and outside I've turned to water
Like a teardrop in your palm
And it's a hard winter's day, I dream away
It must have been love but it's over now
It must have been good but I lost it somehow
It must have been love but it's over now
From the moment we touched 'til the time had run out"
Roxette
Pretty Woman

There were a few similar scenes between the movie and this story. When I started reading, I didn't find it interesting enough. Victoria was really heartbroken over her breakup and Madison had a serious problem with the I.R.S.
They were two strangers led into a fake relationship and they didn't know how to get along behind the screen.

As the story continued and the hs travelled to different cities, a connection had been made, it started with sex at first but gradually it began to develop into something more. I began to feel all sorts of delicious feelings sneaking in from behind as they began to capture my heart. I knew then that this book was going to be a winner.

Why not 5? The reappearance of the ex girlfriend.
I wasn't expecting it, but I wasn't surprised. The author needed to add more hurdles for Madison and Victoria to go through. However, the execution was poorly done. Why attend a couple's therapy when you already knew your ex had nothing to do with the business of your heart, mind and life anymore.

A special shout out to Madison, she was really proud of being an escort. No, I was forced into it nor I only had sex with a F.E.W. clients.
After her time with Victoria, she didn't jump into the lesbian's bandwagon and rode off into the sunset. She did some soul-searching on her new sexual discovery.

A suggestion, listen to Roxette's It Must Have Been Love while reading the similar scenes.

This book is available on KU / Unavailable on Scribd. Kindle price is USD4.99

I’m sorry I only got half way and decided to stop struggling to finish. The problem is that I don’t like any of the characters - Victoria, a successful writer who is about to go on a press tour for her new book “Making Lesbian Relationships Work… Forever” . The problem - her longtime partner just left her and she was expected to go on the book tour with Vic. The fix - Vic’s agent Pepper suggests hiring a professional escort, Madison. Madison who has never been with a woman before - professionally or personal.

I’m trying to put into words why I couldn’t continue. Maybe because it was so unhumorous? Maybe because they are all so self-centered? I dunno. I know a number of people loved this book. It just wasn’t for me.

I had no idea this story would be such a fun and addictive read. We dive into the world of Victoria, a wealthy heiress who sees her girlfriend of 5 years pack up and leave her for another woman on the eve of a very important book tour. Knowing the girlfriend is a very crucial aspect of the book promotion becoming a success (she is the subject of the book) leaves the publisher in a bit of a bind. They decide on hiring a very high-end prostitute (Madison) to play the role as girlfriend for the duration of the book tour.

The fake girlfriend trope is one of my favorites and this one was done very well. What seems a simple scenario turns out to be pretty complicated when real feelings get into play. The book is well written and takes you into the glitzy world of the privileged. I liked the characters, especially Madison. You get a good look into her world and the toll it takes to do the kind of work she does. It ended up going much deeper than I thought, a pleasant surprise indeed.

f/f explicit
Themes: I didn't know I had a gay bone in my body but the world's best toe-curling orgasms can change a girl's mind, the intruiging world of the very well off, rebound girl, developing feelings for a working girl can get messy, all I wanted to know about the world of the high-end sex worker and was afraid to ask, now I need to read more Dane-Billings books!

Get ready to be seduced!

The prologue of this book had me grimacing and laughing at the same time because I knew i'd be in for one hell of a ride and boy was I right.

After reading Hard to Get and loving it enough to then read On the Rocks, which I ended up adding to my all time favorites list, I forgot to stay on the look out for future F/F books by this author (she also writes M/F). It was by chance that I saw that Maria had read Kiss & Tell and I of course immediately hopped onto amazon to get my F/F erotica fix.

This book is so sexy! I absolutely loved every second of straight (or so she thought) Madison seducing poor heartbroken Vic(toria) who valiantly tried to not give in to the deliciously femme escort. The chemistry between these two is off the charts and the sex scenes.., let me put it this way, i'm not brave enough nor do I have the poker face to try and read this anywhere other than at home... alone!

This book ends with a 4,5* rating because even though there are thankfully no M/F scenes at all in this book, there are quite a few mentions of certain M/F acts. This last part is a purely personal issue because identifying as bi; when I pick up a book marketed as F/F I really don't want to be reminded of anything M/F and vice versa.

Still when reading this, have a cold drink (or shower) ready.

Entertaining

A pleasant, entertaining read that was straight forward and followed the storyline I anticipated...to be fair sometimes that is exactly what you want, and it was; an easy read.

I don't know what I was expecting. It wasn't bad just not my type of book. I just saw fake relationship and had to read it. It was a bit like pretty women. There wasn't much of a emotional connection between the MCs .Of course the accidentally falling for each other part still got me. I wasn't comfortable with a few things and I didn't like the ending.

First book by these authors and I enjoyed it a lot. So why only 3 stars? I don't think the authors achieved what they set out to do.

The set up is great. We have the wealthy and very heart broken writer Victoria who's in need of a fake girlfriend. And then there's the alluring escort Madison who'll do just about anything for money and who expected to meet Victor, not Victoria.

So three main themes are explored.

First of all there's Madison's occupation as an escort and her need for money which leads to emotional manipulation of Victoria. The insights into the escort lifestyle were interesting but other than that we never find out why Madison chose or was forced to go in the business. Such a key part of the character yet it is never revealed.

Secondly there's the discovery of a new side of one's sexuality which was handled fine, it's the usual "never looked at girls that way but this one's special".

And then the eventual imbalance of their relationship with Victoria having all the power and Madison having none of it. It's presented as their biggest obstacle yet the resolution of it created an even larger imbalance. The ending didn't make sense to me because of this. And that also leads to my biggest issue with this book - they say they love each other yet it's never clear why besides Madison liking Victoria's money and confidence and Victoria liking Madison's tits and looks in general.

I guess I should write something good about the book too. It's technically well written, the dialogue is good, a lot of steamy, well written foreplay and sex. I liked how Victoria was written, her inner conflict and anguish over Anna and Madison was engaging.

Interesting start, strong middle but a disappointing ending which didn't resolve the main conflict even though it's a HEA.

Yes, I'm a sucker for Pretty Woman and those hooker-falls-for-client type of stories, so not surprisingly I really liked this story. My only complaint is about the ending. I feel like it could have been better and less confusing, in my opinion.

Going into this story, i didnt know what to expect. The concept of falling in love with an escort is interesting to me, but ultimately it would depend on the authors philosophy of escorts and the nature of their buisness. The enjoyment of such a story probably also hinges on the readers view of those issues.

To start, i think the story tackled the broad issue of escorts in a tasteful way. Regardless of anyones opinions of the work they do, they are human beings like everyone else, and this story reflects that. I like that there are multiple perspectives on the issue in the story. Both sides carry some good arguments on the issue. Victoria makes a good point about how money for sex lead to issues with standing on equal footing in power dynamics. The other perspective mainly being that sex work shouldnt be viewed differently than other work, you are selling your body as much in construction as you do in sex. If i had to pick a side, i definitely lead towards being against prostitution, but i also dont look down on people that are prostitutes. While i didnt agree with the takeaway the story seemed to have on the issue, i at least respect it for doing a good job at crafting an interesting narative.

The story also involves a nasty breakup after a 5 year relationship. It complicates the story further by forcing Victoria to constantly wonder if Madison is just a rebound or something more. This is also the source of my biggest issue with the story. Victoria and Anna were together, in love, for half a decade. Victoria didnt percieve there to be any real concerns in her relationship before she was blindsided by the breakup. This is all fine, but it makes it hard for me to buy into Victoria falling in love with someone else so soon after that happened. Maybe i dont fall in love as easily, but i just couldnt buy into that aspect of things.

Victoria is an alright character, she clearly has some deep rooted moral prinicples. Most of the story she spends grieving over her failed relationship, wondering if the thing with Madison is just a rebound and feeling crappy over decieving everyone on the book tour(though this isnt as frequent as the others). I dont dislike Victorias character, but i also dont think shes super interesting. Madison really steals the show in that regard. Madison has never had a female client before, she goes from wanting money to wanting a real emotional connection, and she clearly rides that line of almost quitting the escort buisness but never does. She invents a new version of herself to fit her clients taste, and when she tried that with Victoria it didnt work because Victoria only wants to have sex with a real person, not a fantasy or the idea of someone who doesnt exist. Its interesting to see the contrast between 'escort Madison' and the real Madison. She has so much more going on than Victoria in terms of both the narative and her personality. Her character made me enjoy this story, but the way the ending played out also makes me more mixed on the story.

The whole story was building up to a choice that had to be made, was Victoria going to continue seeing Madison after the trip was over? I have to admit, i was fully expecting Madison to just quit being an escort for the sake of being with Victoria in the end. I expected this because earlier in the story, it made it clear the Madison didnt have any real desire to be an escort or get more involved in management. She made that abundantly clearly multiple times that it was just a way to make money. This is why i think alot of the ending fell flat for me. The whole arrangement at the end felt so convoluted and unnecessary. If Madisons character was really the kind of character that would want to go into management then it would be more satisfying. Even in one of the later scenes when Victoria makes the deal, Madison makes it obvious she would have been ok just quitting. It doesnt ruin the story for me, but it definitely made it weaker.

The character interactions themselves were really good. Rich with undertones of grief, mistrust, and confusion. The sex scenes were incredibly well done, with dialogue that made the scenes interesting on top of being sexy. I liked that there was alot of weight in the dialogue. As i said earlier, Madison has two sides to her and the dialogue helps illustrate that. Needless to say, i didnt find any of the interactions to be dull or uninteresting.

Its hard to really put words to how i feel about the story. I had a really good time reading it, and found it interesting, but there were aspects i disagreed with and it had that less than satisfying ending(to me at least). I liked the story, thats really all there is to it.

I agreed with everything that Kara said before.
But, I still like Vic too much, even not being okay with her lying and stuff, but she's just so adorable, I guess I have a crush for women with her style and the suits just kills me.
I guess I'd never get in a relationship like theirs, and I still don't understand why the hell Vic fell in love With Madd, but well...
I enjoyed the book more than I thought, not so steamy as the others, not so much sex as I expected, but when it happened, reaaaally good, super sexy, woo ha!
Also, I love the fake girlfriend plot, if anyone have another books like that, tell meeeeeee

I’m being a bit generous and rounding my rating up a bit. This is probably more like a 2.75ish read, for me. This is basically a Pretty Woman fantasy story, and that’s fun but I didn’t really like the character of Victoria all that much, and I never got much out of the relationship between them beyond lust. This is obviously not trying to be in the realm of realism, but Victoria going to what felt like a 180 in the end wrt, (kinda spoilers) patronage, felt a bit odd. It was fine though, the writing style wasn’t really for me and felt a little clunky in places but it was kind of a quick mildly entertaining read.

I really enjoyed this book. I will check on more books of these authors. Our protagonists: A book author that has to do a book tour in some cities of the world, just after her girlfriend dumps her for another woman. The image of the book would be affected as the main subject of the book is how to have long lesbian relationships. Her publicist suggests to hire an escort so she can pretend to be her girlfriend in the tour.

Only reason I give 4 stars to this book is because of the cover. I know is not good to judge a book by its cover but I do not like at all when they put women as if they were the main characters. I like to imagine them as I want! Those are one of the advantages of reading books!

Victoria is in a bind. She's written a how-to book on lesbian relationships and is set to go on a book tour to LA and Europe with her partner of 5 years. But days before the trip, her partner walks out on her to go off with a woman in her RV. The success of the book tour is based on Victoria showing up with her reclusive girlfriend, so her agent convinces her to hire a female escort and show her off as the gf.

Madison is the escort. She's always been with men and is shocked when she boards the plane and discovers that her client is a woman. While Victoria assures her that the job is limited to their public presentation as a couple and not a private sexual relationship, things have a way of turning out differently.

The book takes a while to rev up, but once again Cynthia Dane does a good job of getting inside the heads of her characters, especially showing us in great detail the life that Madison leads as a sex worker. Highly recommended.

There is much to like in this ‘fake relationship becomes real’ story. And somethings that I found a bit harder to like. On balance it is well-written and the fun outweighs the jarring. If you are very good at suspending disbelief then this romance heavy story should be fun to read.

Imagine Pretty Woman minus Richard Gere. My rating is 3.5 stars.

Victoria is trust fund wealthy, does charity work and wrote a how to book on lesbian relationships. As the book tour is ready to roll, her girlfriend of five years leaves her for a woman that she met on-line. The show must on go, according to her PR agent, and drastic measures are undertaken. The simple truth won't fly or sell books. Hiring an escort to pose as her reclusive girlfriend seems crazy enough to work. This is where Madison enters the picture. The two week book tour takes these three women to LA, London and Paris. The heartbroken lesbian and the straight escort have nothing in common, except that they like spending time together. Madison desperately needs more money than her ten thousand dollar fee. Victoria fancies the pants off her beautiful, pretend girlfriend. This arrangement should be mutually beneficial, but Victoria doesn't want to pay for gay from a woman who wants to pick her wallet or to pad her sexual resume. Madison kisses Victoria like she means more than business, but can she find it within herself to tell Victoria what she needs to hear?

I liked Kiss and Tell. Madison and Victoria make interesting main characters. The reader is given extra insight by way of eavesdropping on internal monologues. Direct communication, between the characters, is lacking when it's most needed. Words left unspoken cause most of the drama in this story. This book is a companion piece to the other books written by this duo. Rich lesbians and beautiful women, who live in different worlds, come together to find a romantic HEA. The Cinderella fairytale has been told many times and ways. Victoria makes a fine Princess and Madison fills the glass slipper like a pro. There was just something missing, from this version, to make it truly stand out.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Cynthia Dane has the ability to write high quality F/F erotic romances. At this point I've read most of her lesbian/bi books and she never disappoints.

In Kiss and Tell, Victoria Nicholson is about to go on a book tour to hawk her latest non-fiction self-help book on lesbian relationships. The selling point of the tour is her reclusive girlfriend, Anna, who is supposed to accompany her. But right before they are to leave, Anna packs up her things and goes off with another woman.

Victoria's agent convinces her that the only way the tour will be a success is if she hires a female escort to pretend to be her gf. Enter Madison, who's worked as an escort for years, but only with men. She's more than surprised when she learns her new client is a woman, but then learns that the job will not involve sex.

Ultimately, the best laid plans go astray.

Many of Cynthia Dane's books (both those she writes on her own and with Hildreth Billings) are set in her fictional universe of the ultra-rich, usually involving a couple comprised of one billionaire (or heiress) and one regular working person. Although these books are mostly erotic romances, Dane never skims on the romance part and the back and forth ebb and flow of relationships. That's true in this book, which takes a bit of time to get into gear, but then zeroes in on the push-pull of Victoria and Madison.

One of the great strengths of the book is the glimpse we get into Madison's life as an escort and all she has to do to keep her self desirable and competitive with other escorts. It was a fascinating and very non-judgmental view of sex work that makes us sympathize with Madison at the same time that we grow to love and respect her.

I should have known I was going to judge this HARD. I don't even like the movie Pretty Woman, that so many people seem to enjoy. Selling sex is not romantic to me. As an erotic story, this did a great job. I actually liked the characters for the most part.

Victoria was almost obsessed with being sad. It's like she wanted to STAY that way. Love in two weeks? I just couldn't wrap my head around it. I may have believed it if there was more courting, maybe not in the two weeks but when they got back? Madison was actually an agreeable character, most of the time.

Not so sure I'm okay with the ending, though HEA. For whatever reason when they reunited in the end I pictured Madison in a Victorian dress running down the halls as her hair unpins itself by the force of her motion and I tried really hard not to make her surroundings an old brothel with the amused, twisted smirk of an old Madame in the background, but I failed.

Minor and few errors. Well written and well thought out. Aside from the traveling, the characters felt very real. I can't usually sit through books written by two different authors because it's so obvious, but surprisingly not in this case. I just couldn't get into the romance of it.

As the author of how-to books for lesbian relationships, Victoria needs her reclusive girlfriend to go on her book tour. Except when she comes home to discuss the dates and tour locations, Victoria finds Anna packing her bags and running off with another woman. Her publisher expects a girlfriend and who that is doesn't really matter. So Victoria is forced to hire an escort to pose as her girlfriend for two weeks. Enter Madison, who mistakenly thinks her agency is sending her to give a man the girlfriend experience for two weeks.
This story was an amazing journey of a straight escort connecting to a woman for the first time while trying to figure out her future and a self-help author and heiress questioning where her relationship went wrong and how she can move forward with Madison without knowing whether or not what they share is real.
As usual, I loved the cameos by some of my other favorite characters from this Billionaire's universe! I can't wait to see what's in store for all of these characters!

I’m not sure how to rate this. It’s like a fairy tale but instead of a princess falling for the help or a knight it’s a rich woman and an escort, so believable isn’t its forte, I knew that when I started reading and accepted it. Everything was going fine, kinda long, nothing special nor spectacular, just enjoyable, and then the last chapters...

Why?

Why would you pay for being exclusive with your escort girlfriend that doesn’t want to be an escort anymore?

Why would you choose to live in a brothel and have your rich girlfriend pay for you instead of living with her if you don’t what to be with clients anymore?

That ending is why it’s a 3 stars rating even if more than 80% of the book was enjoyable to me.

the gang's back!

I love that Cat and Maxine and even Adrienne made an appearance in this book! The at touch provides a comfortable continuity. Makes me want to reread the other books! Smart, very smart. Have to admit I didn't know how the central knot would be untied until Judith presented it. That probably says almost as much about how recently I came to bingeing lesbian-themed fiction as about Hildred/Cynthia's skill as storytellers. A good story, endearing characters.
