I really feel inspired by Amy Carmichael and her willing Spirit and her devotion to Christ so early on in life. The fact that she allowed Him to guide her is quite wonderful. I don't think this book explained as much, but I am sure reading some of her 30 books would be more helpful. She constantly gave glory to Christ, and for that I adore her. Through Christ she helped people in Ireland, Scotland, and England who were looked down upon. She went to Japan and was willing to be among the people as the missionaries disagreed with her. She went to India and established orphanages and a hospital to care for young children who were to be abandoned, abused, or sold as temple prostitutes or sacrifices. How amazing. The book was a little slow and not too interesting but the subject matter was interesting.

Amy is a stud, faithful and obedient to the end. It’s sweet to see her heart for Indians and to hear her talk about cities I’ve just lived in - I want to seek after God like she did and have the hope and joy of looking towards eternity.

Great story. Her devotion to the children of India was incredible. The end of her life was also fascinating, how she endured so many years of being bedridden. The book is written on about a 4th grade reading level. But that was the copy available.

Nice little overview of Amy Carmichael's life. It tickled my interest in the tumultuous history of India (and China) at that time (turn of the century). I'm the kind of person who likes to have all the i's dotted and t's crossed, so I will pick up a more rich and full biography of her. She seems to be an extraordinary person - especially when compared to this day and age. Very well read, abounding energy, and fully devoted to Christ - beyond denominational differences. I like her.

This book recommended books for further reading, so I may pursue that. I will also like to read some of her own writing. In particular, she wrote a book about people dealing with illness called "Rose from Brier" - she wrote it while she was bed-bound - so it has that "been there" perspective. I want to check that out.

Easy read and pretty good, but I didn't give it 5 stars since I want more details. That's probably not fair of me.

I enjoyed reading this book about Amy Carmichael. Sam Wellman takes the reader through Amy's journey of her life in God's Family. Amy starts as a young adult and is just starting outreaching to unbelievers. Amy struggles at first. Later on She is able to go and help people in need more often without being ashamed. Amy feels a calling for her to go and be a missionary and after getting permission from her mother she goes and starts her journey. on Amy's journey to become a missionary Amy renews and strengthens people by sharing the gospel. Sam Wellman ends the book with Amy feeling very strong n the faith.

Great book into Amy's life as a missionary to India. Very readable, though it did leave me wanting more in places. I loved her spirit and personality and that in the times she needed to push to do something she did and the times when it seemed more that she should wait, she did that too. Her whole life, however, she remained active for the Lord, even into her 70's and 80's when she was almost immobile, she still kept writing. Very inspiring. (Loved the added bonus of hearing the books that she read early in her life that inspired her throughout-the main one being Pilgrim's Progress.)

I have read a number of books about Amy Carmichael. Her life is quite a challenge to anyone who wants to live for God. Amy held nothing back; she gave God all she had and was.

I can not recommend this book. I couldn't finish it. The author writes with a theology that is man centered and with prose that is uninteresting. I doubt Amy would say that she saved anyone and yet the author uses this phrase often. I would love to read a book about this missionary that gives glory to God.

Great biography about a great figure in missions history. It was an especially interesting look into the history of India during the early and mid-1900's. It is so encouraging to read the stories of people who have given their lives to the Lord and been used mightily by Him.

As somebody who had never read about Amy Carmichael’s life, I enjoyed this book! I’m thankful to have read about the details about where she was and when, and what the Lord did with her life- especially with the children in India. That being said, I’m looking forward to reading books that she has written herself! I think I’ll enjoy those more than this one- though I’m glad to now know her story as a lens through which to read her books!

Some quotes I enjoyed are:

“Oh, self, die, she quickly corrected herself. It was the ‘me, me, me’ in Amy that was stung by Thomas Walker. Nothing of any importance.”

“‘The children will tie you down,’ some protested. Well, why not? Why could she not be tied down for the sake of her Lord whose feet were once nailed?”

This book has been sat on my shelf for years, so I figured it was about time I read it.

Well considering I knew nothing about Any Carmichael beforehand, I've learnt a lot! Her faith in God and her resilience to keep going is inspiring. Even when Japan and China didn't work out, she still looked further and found her way to India. It was only towards the end that I realised she never returned to England after she got to India. Rather she set up there and built a compound that grew as the organisation grew.

The fact she was inside for the final decade or so of her life clearly affected her but at the same time her faith stayed strong and she remained active and in contact with those around her all the time.

God is faithful.

My family read the book together during suppers this summer. Amy is devoted to Jesus Christ and follows his will for her disregarding personal cost. It's a story of failure and grace. It's an encouragement to me, and I hope that I somehow am more like Amy through hearing her life story, a story not without suffering and despair. Praise God for Amy Carmichael, her love for Indians, and His interventions on their behalf.

Amy Carmichael was a really amazing person that I was not aware of before reading this. Not even sure how I came upon these actual physical books! But I will absolutely be passing this one on to someone else to make the same discovery of this woman who served Jesus faithfully through all the ups and downs of her life. What an inspiration! It didn't hurt that she was a woman of strong and fierce conviction and a dash of rebellion that made me want to read more about her!

I loved how well this book was written and how 1 woman can have such strong faith throughout her whole life . It was great to read all of the good things she has done with her faith and her life with the missionary's that the people around her was saying that is not what a women does and she proves everyone wrong except for the ones who have faith .

I found the life of Amy Carmichael to be very moving. I knew very little about her before I started the book. It was a reminder of how God uses the believer who submits to Him and whose hearts desire is to glorify God in all things.
