When I read the synopsis, I thought "Oh boy, a thriller mixed with a lot of romance, just the way I like it!", only that wasn't the case. It was more like a romance mixed with a lot of emotional turmoil, and just a bit of a storyline, in fact, I found that the storyline was practically non-existent.
I found the character development to be... well, underdeveloped. There was very little back story on either Mallory or Baxter, I had a hard time connecting with either of them. I felt very little sympathy for Mallory and her "feelings" for Baxter when she has to turn him over to the authorities for his crimes after their "spectacular shag". In fact, after he leaves and she breaks down, I was so confused and even scoffed at the idea. "Mallory gave herself a few minutes to let it all out. Huddled under the duvet, she sobbed, pounded the pillow and even screamed into it a couple of times, thankful for the hotel's soundproofing." Say what? Is all that really necessary? How can one person get so attached after a one night stand?
Then... wow... after he's turned over to the authorities and the unthinkable happens I completely lost interest in the story. I won't disclose what happens as to not spoil it for others, but let's just say that it's completely unrealistic... at least to me. Then from that point on there's all this sexual tension and inner turmoil, Mallory is so inside her head and all I heard was whining and blah, blah, blah.
It wasn't entirely a poor read, the sex scenes were actually spicy, but if you're not into the juicy romance novels, then this will probably not be for you. This was the only reason I gave the book a 3-star rating verses a 2-star rating. It was well written and edited, but the storyline and character development were just lacking a bit too much for me.
I want to thank NetGalley and Lucy Felthouse for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this novel in exchange for my review.
Mallory Scott is an espionage operative, working for the British government. She’s travelled all over the world, often going undercover and infiltrating criminal organisations in order to extract the intelligence needed to dismantle their operations and bring the perpetrators to justice. Given her usual targets are terrorists, people-traffickers, drug-traffickers and arms dealers, her latest assignment should be relatively simple. A small group of Brits is raking in serious money in the diamond-scamming business—and although their MO is theft and forgery, rather than hurting people, they still need to be stopped. But up until now, they’ve proved elusive—no one can catch them in the act, or find a shred of evidence against them.
That’s where Mallory comes in. She follows the group to Amsterdam, planning to get her claws in to one of the gang. Luck is on her side, and within twenty-four hours she’s lunching with Baxter Collinson, the youngest—and most handsome—diamond thief. What she's not expecting, however, is to get on with him quite so well. Attraction bubbles between them—and for once, on Mallory’s part, it isn’t an act. For the first time in her career, Mallory struggles with what she must do.
Can she ignore her heart for the sake of her career?
I loved, loved, loved this book. Mallory is full of sass, and very good at her job. I also loved Baxtor Collinson. He was very cheeky and good looking. I enjoyed the banter between the two of them, and the sex scenes were wild! The book was easy to read - I read it in one morning, and am now looking for more books by Lucy Felthouse.
Fun and sexy romantic suspense! A super romantic suspense from Lucy Felthouse. Mallory’s work as an espionage operative is often dangerous and she fully expects her latest assignment, that of gathering evidence to take down a group of diamond thieves, to be a doddle. She has absolutely no qualms about using her feminine wiles to entrap one of the gang’s members, the young and handsome Baxter Collinson. All goes to plan except she makes an immediate connection to Baxter and begins to lose her heart in the process… For the first time she feels guilty about the role she has played in a criminal’s impending arrest and incarceration and she is torn. I won’t delve any more into the plot but suffice to say I LOVED the unexpected twist. Do the couple have a future? How will Baxter view Mallory’s deceit? Can Mallory continue to maintain her professional detachment towards the very man who has made her question her actions? I adored Mallory, a strong woman and a consummate professional, dedicated to her work as an undercover agent – she reminded me of a female James Bond as she enjoys her job and has a healthy attitude when it comes to sex! As for Baxter, he is both SO sexy and cheeky and has a fantastic sense of humour – it is no wonder Mallory falls for him. I really felt for him when he realises that Mallory deliberately orchestrated their relationship. The characters are realistic and I easily identified with their emotions – I particularly loved the banter and the scenes between the main couple. It’s also got plenty of smexy and sizzling scenes which the author excels at. Recommended for readers of romantic suspense who enjoy a read which contains some sexy and explicit scenes. Please note, a copy of this book was given to me by the author for the purpose of a fair and honest review.

Mallory was my favourite character. 5*. Netgalley and weaponry co-op and tbc on fb.
Fantasy spy erotica with a strong female and male character that sizzle on paper. Mallory does what it takes to get each one of her assignments completed successfully. Her current job has her in Holland to put a stop to a ring of diamond thieves. Little does she realize that getting the job done quickly will not be as satisfying as she had hoped it would be. Why? Because she sort-of maybe kind-of feels something for the man she targeted to get information from after using more than her wiles to get what she wanted. There is hope for the two of them but not without a few twists and turns that occur before the end of the story.
Simple, short and not too long – this is a titillating story to escape into anytime. Is it accurate and filled with spy jargon and details? Not so much. Did I like the characters? Yes Was it entertaining? Yes Would I read another book by this author? Yes
Thank you to the author who provided me an ARC to review through NetGalley – This is my honest review.
This author never disappoints, so I was pretty sure I was going to like this story. Told entirely in the heroine's pov this is a fascinating little tale of espionage and the people who take on such work to protect their country.
Right from the first page I really liked the heroine. She makes no excuses for who she is, or what she has to do to get the job done. and she is very, very, good at her job.
She's also not afraid to take her sexual pleasures where she finds them, another thing I really liked about her.
What happens, however, when the lines between the job and her private life blur. Falling in love with a target is never a good idea.
No spoilers from me. You'll have to read the book to find out what happened, but I will say this. I loved the realism of this story and the inherent British feel to it.
I could see this actually happen in real life and it made the whole story even more enjoyable for me. I laughed, I was on the edge of my seat and I fanned myself a lot too.
Mallory is a woman who knows how to get things done. In the spy game, it takes someone who is willing to do whatever it takes to bring down criminal organisations and Mallory is just that woman. I loved that she was on the ball and even when things didn't go as planned she didn't beat herself up. She just thought of a different plan and went with it.
I also loved that she was comfortable in her own skin and enjoyed sexual encounters for what they were. Of course, it's one thing to get involved with the mark so she can learn his secrets and another thing to get deeply involved with said mark. Can the conflict be resolved? Can she still get the job done?
One of the things I love about this author is her ability to write descriptions that make you see the scenes in cinema-scope. I especially loved her descriptions of Amsterdam. It made me feel as if I was there on an adventure with the characters. This is certainly a sexy story that fuses espionage, suspense and erotica very well.
What a great mixture - spies, goodies, baddies, hunks, diamonds and a trip through Europe!
Mallory is good at her job - taking down major crime rings around the world is what she does best, infiltrate and bust. In and out. No emotional ties. Well, until her latest job. She picks her mark, but soon realises there is more to Baxter Collinson than meets the eye.
Hiding in Plain Sight was sold to me as a romantic suspense but it is more erotica than romance. The sex scene were very descriptive and well sizzling for those who like erotica in their romantic suspense books. I am not one of those people. I feel it takes away from the story and doesn't add to the romance. The story is short on story and filled with sexual encounters. The build up is more in the synopsis than in the actually story. I had high hopes that his story would be great mix Romance and the Stone and Oceans movies instead I got lots of sex and very little story. Thank you to Netgalley for the Advance Copy
Suspension of disbelief helps a lot in order to enjoy this audiobook
Mallory Scott is a British secret agent who, in the first few minutes of the book, admits she’s been used as a ‘honeypot’ in the past.
Now, I’m all for a woman who enjoys sex and since men have been known to use it to gain power, I suppose it’s only fair game. That being said, there is a lot of sex in this book. Just a heads-up.
There were things I really liked about the book. Mallory’s character is strong and she’s a good spy for a long time, respected in the agency. Strong kick-ass female heroines are among my favourite.
Of course, as smart and as prepared as Mallory is, I didn’t need to know every single thought and the reasoning behind every little decision. As a reader, I felt I should have been given a little more credit. It’s great the author wants me to know how much research she’s done (or just how creative she is), but it did get a little tedious.
Morally ambivalent characters are always much-loved for me. I want to be challenged as to why Baxter Collinson makes the choices he makes and how he faces the consequences.
That being said, suspension of disbelief is necessary here. Not only are all crimes forgiven, but then Baxter is trained for all of TWO weeks before being sent out into the field.
Seriously?
There are NO other agents in the entirety of Her Majesty’s Secret Service who could do the job? But it fits the plot, setting up both a moral dilemma and the opportunity for even more sex.
The narrator, Poppy Jae Fox, saves the book. She is British – which is obviously appropriate, but she narrates the story with gravitas, even though the situations are a little absurd. She was pleasant to listen to and I will definitely look for more books narrated by her. Her Belgian and Russian accents were good as well.
The book had potential that was never fully realized. A thriller doesn’t need to have guns and action sequences to be exciting. In fact, most spying is fairly routine and boring. Fair enough. But if that’s the world we’re portraying, the writing needs to be much tighter. I don’t need to know why or why not spies are going to have a hot breakfast.
I do need to understand the stakes. Bad for Britain was never adequately explained, leaving a gaping hole in a book where every little thing is explained. So my one recommendation would be to tighten up the writing. This book could have been told in about half the time it was and it would have been a better book. Also, the ending was just a little too pat.
I’m not discouraged, though. I have another Lucy Fellthouse book in my library and I plan to listen to it soon. I am still willing to give the author another chance
Ready for sexual hijinks with a licensed to kill? Well, Mallory is not a double O agent like in the Bond movies. She is a British operative who is determined to complete her latest assignment. What happens when the assignment brings in a sexy thief who isn't really bad?
This trope of law enforcer falling for a sexy questionable criminal is so good. Ms. Felthouse creates a sexy dynamic between Mallory and boyish Baxter Collinson. Baxter reminds me of Matt Bomer from White Collar. He likes money and just loves the challenge. He is not technically hurting anyone. It is not like he is a killer. He has special skill sets and they can be applied to good or evil. But really, what's so fun in the good? That is Mallory's job. In a bit of a plot twist, Mallory and Baxter have to team up. The taboo on several fronts is enticing with the inherent forbidden fruit. Mallory keeps getting her panties twisted over rules and regulations. It is nice to see it resolved with much ado about nothing.
The sensual tension between these two is fun and flirty. Both characters are adorable and easy to like. This erotica romance is recommended to readers who like questionable career criminals.
There's nothing more exciting than a good spy tale mixed with erotic action. This short story has both of these elements and joins them together seamlessly making for a thrilling and arousing take that leaves you wanting more. A combination of Bond, Mission Impossible and Jason Bourne.
Hiding in Plain Sight by Lucy Felthouse was a great read. Mallory is a British Operative who is looking for a group of Diamond thieves. Mallory finds out that one of the thieves is a man she is attracted to. I loved reading Mallory and Baxter's story and can't wait to read more by Lucy Felthouse.
I had the opportunity to preview this book when it was slated for release elsewhere, and I'm glad to see it was published. I enjoyed this story very much.
Hiding in Plain Sight by Author Lucy Felthouse is an erotic romance, which tells the story of Mallory Scott, a female British espionage operative, who is asked to infiltrate a gang of diamond thieves and uncover evidence that will lead them to be convicted. She is a strong willed and sassy character who is not afraid to use her feminine wiles to get the job done and bring the criminals to justice.
Not one to give away her heart easily, Mallory is shocked to discover that in the course of carrying out her duties, she has fallen in love with one of the diamond thieves. Baxter Collinson, who charms Mallory with his wit, humour and irresistible physique, leads her to make a choice between putting her heart or career first.
With erotic adult content, which is not for those readers who are uncomfortable with the subject and exploration of sex, Hiding in Plain Sight, is a read that moves at a good pace, as the main protagonists fall in love during their respective missions. Their interactions both inside and outside of the bedroom are in the main believable with relevant dialogue. Whilst I enjoyed reading Mallory’s story, I would have liked to have seen a lot more drama and tension introduced by the author. The couples circumstances seemed to be resolved far too conveniently for them, without any major challenges presented, or hurdles to overcome.
Overall a good read and to which we award 3.5 stars.
The underlying concept for this series is awesome and the blurb really reeled me in. But four chapters into it and I felt I was reading a cross between chicklit, erotic thriller, and harlequin romance, all of which put me off. But for the right reader, this book could well fit the bill. As to the part of the story that was more of what I expected, here, too, I found things a bit forced, and a bit too much telling and not enough showing in the storytelling. A longer format book might have given the author the time she needed not to rush things, and that might have had a hand in why the story felt a bit hurried. Again, just go in with different expectations than I had, and you might be fine with this one. As a novella or quick read, it kind of works. And there’s still a sense of fun beneath the pages.
It does have sex and its character is (ostensibly) a spy, but the story is so unrealistic and juvenile it may as well be Nancy Drew. One more sentence about what her heart tells her and you will want, well just put it down and find something more worthy to read.
Well written, pretty fast paced, short read, maintained reader interest. Whilst a tad forced annd unbelievable, the storyline and the 2 main characters were well delivered. Tension between work and non work good, strong chemistry, spicy.
Lucy never disappoints so I went into this with high expectations. This was a fantastic thrilling story with characters you cannot help but love. I read this in one sitting and couldn’t put it down.
