Soledad St. Mark was absolutely convinced her life was dead-end. Vincenzo d'Fiore was absolutely convinced that he had lost the thing that mattered most to him, many years ago. An encounter of pure fate, one late evening, throws Soledad into the world that she never knew existed of gangs, blood. Vincenzo, resolved to protect this naive, yet entrancing young woman, goes on the warpath to hunt down all those who hurt her. In his attempt to unravel a mystery seven years in the making, the two come together. It's a bond that is destined to be, yet slow moving and hampered by the years of abuse that Soledad has endured. The protection of her knight in a black suit can only go so far. Soledad must become a woman of steel or fall to her enemies, who bay for her blood.
A. Haze, First of Her Name, Writer of Erotic Fantasy, Mother of Way too Many Characters, Connoisseur of fine interracial content featuring dark-skinned women.
While I like to consider myself a romance writer in general, the reality is that almost all of my writing has some sort of fantastical basis. My forte especially is high fantasy, so dragons, elves, magic, massive battles and political intrigue. The works. All of my heroines are black and dark-skinned.
I have no idea why I even picked this book up. I am not a fan of mafia books.
I ended up DNFing around 20%. Not because it was a bad or terrible book, but I simply could not get engaged in it. I think I started it like 3 times. Finally decided to just give up since it wasn't holding me.
Excellent story! Wonderful concept! I haven't come across many books that mix paranormal and Mafia. Bravo Haze!
I think with a bit more polish this story could be a bestseller! The characters are fabulous, the scenes are well-written for the most part (a bit of jumping around resulted in mild confusion a few times), the revenge scenes....epic!
This book would have earned a higher rating if it weren't for the racial slurs. Totally unnecessary and completely diminished scenes that would have been great without the slurs! As a blogger, I would gladly promote and share this story if it were absent of slurs. If you are limiting your amazing talent to a specific audience, then so be it. If you have a desire to expand your audience, then eliminate the slurs. If it weren't for the overall concept, this story would have been a DNF at the first slur. Kudos for the Dante angle as well! Made the story that much palatable!
It was an ok read. It got better once I was able to completely suapend reality. I am not sure how I feel about the age differences between the characters. The book would have been better had I not had to completely suspend reality to tolerate the differences in the ages. I get that it is a paranormal romance and those characters have a long life expectancy; however it was still difficult to read. I am not sure if I will read the other books following this one, since this looks like it might be a series, or if I will even read anything else by this author. If one can get past the age differences and the fact that the female love interest is a 19 yr old high school student it might not be so bad. However, even though the characters were paranormal it was a bit much to deal with. I had to suspend reality way too much for this book. I don't even know if I can recommend this book. That is just much on the fence I am. I actually give this book 2.5 stars and not 3.
Finally, a good, well written bwwm paranormal book!
Wow, I'm glad I read this book. So many PNR BWWM are difficult to get through due to poor editing/grammar and a weak, overly sexed story. This book built the story up before getting to the sex. Good story and the characters were believable and interesting. Hope this is a long series. Will follow this author.
I'm not usually into paranormal stories but this one was interesting. The author wrote this story with mysteries that were revealed a little at a time. Just enough to keep one reading to find out what else will be revealed.
Poor Soledad St Mark is the last of her clan and for the past seven years, she's been treated like dirt by her mother and step family. When she calls for help from Vincenzo D'Fiore, it starts events that reveals her mysterious past and starts the evolution that is Soledad the no holds barred woman. This new side of Sol really turns Vinny on and he knows that she is his mate but there are others that want to stop that and there is nothing he won't do to protect her.
All the people who were scheming have been taken care of except for one and I'm assuming that will be done in the next book.
I DNF this book. I got to around 20-25% and had to call it quits. I love mafia and paranormal books so I was really interested in reading this, but I just couldn’t get over the age difference. I’m not a fan at all of large age gaps in general, but I can push it aside when they are in their 20s and 30s but a 19 year old high school student and a 30 year old man?! Nope! Just felt too predatory to me. I tried to think of it in terms of them being supernatural beings and aging different but I just couldn’t.
Omg I can't believe I put off reading Courting the Mafia thinking it was going to be the usual crime boss billionaire story , it was so much more I loved the paranormal aspects of the story even usually hard topics for people to discuss Were approached in a tasteful manner this was new and tastefully done I look forward to reading more works by A. Haze.
This was such a really good story with a developed storyline that keeps you completely enthralled.I love that we get a hint that there is something special about the characters in this story. The writer does an excellent job with character development and the dialogue.I would definitely liked to have seen how their lives play out further along in the future.
I was thinking I missed something in the description but, no, its a supernatural almost shifter story, a bit confusing at the beginning because its unexpected but a nice story all the same. Could do with cleaning up on some minor grammar, but otherwise a decent read.
This book wasn't what I thought the synopsis read it to be, but it turned out to be a really good book. I had a little bit of everything from the paranormal world, take a chance on this book especially if you like paranormal, mafia all rolled up into one.
Not what I was expecting but I enjoyed the book. I do enjoy that type of book, but I felt on occasion that the author did not combine the super natural and romance as I would have liked
Too many errors, nothing followed in sic, the characters really didn't have any personality. Just not a good book and defiantly not something I would recommended.
Omg when I started the book I was like okay this is going to be a good read. Then I got to tue climax my mouth was open the whole time until I finished. Man oh man I'm about to get the second half of the book
This book is hands down 1 of the best paranormal books I've ever read. The story line the characters even the characters dedicated to the villains is just amazing. Totally recommend You read With an open mind.
I didn't know it was a paranormal read but as I continued it drew me in. I knew Solidad had it in her. I enjoyed reading as she fully develops in her own skin.
