This is the sequel to ‘Destination Thailand’ and again concerns Georgia Green who started the Lonely Hearts Travel Club. Unfortunately, the new business and her OCD nature mean that she’s trying to do everything, not working with her business partner and not having a life outside the office. Negative reviews concerning their Indian tours together with a couple bottles of wine and a bottle of rum result in her opting to go on the tour to discover just what is happening . . . Get ready for plenty of laughs, misunderstandings, double dealing and unexpected events as she jets off to explore India!
You really don’t need to have read the first book to appreciate this one, but both are great so I recommend you read them both! Getting to know the characters on the tour and discovering more about Georgia, seeing how she tries to help their guide whilst still attempting to discover the cause of those negative reviews takes you through the full gamut of emotions. Don’t expect a travelogue, though plenty of information is shared in passing throughout the story nor should you expect it all to end on Georgia’s return to England. There’s a new office worker, weird vibes, double dealing treachery and an undercover journalist still to be revealed, their impact explored and relationships to be reconnected and renewed. What a roller coaster ride this novel is, one where you’re never quite certain what calamity is awaiting Georgia and Ben around the next corner. The ending itself is brilliant and much more hopeful - I can’t wait to read what happens in the next book in the series, Destination Chile, which I understand is due to be release in September 2016. The story is a real page turner, a great addition to the series and one I highly recommend - go on your own virtual adventurous journey with ‘Destination India’!
Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read this in exchange for my honest review.
This was a lovely sequel to the chicklit Destination Thailand.
Georgia has opened up her own travel tour agency for broken hearted travelers. She decides to travel to India on the tour undercover to find out what is causing the bad reviews of that tour. Of course, nothing is as it seems, and eventually her real identity is outed to the rest of the tour group.
Just like the first book in this series, this is an easy and enjoyable beach read filled with small references to the destination Georgia travels to in the book, in this case India.
Destination India is the story of travel organizer, business owner Georgia's adventures in India. She is on a mission, undercover to find out what her customers experience. The antics of Georgia and how she handles her Indian tour guide employee is hilarious. Being an Indian all I can say is the India mentioned in the story is clichéd and the India I live in today is different from what the characters experience in the book. You can get good Wi-Fi, food and better travelling options.
Novel set in India “Nowhere stirs the soul like India”
Georgia runs a travel agency helping people who have just come out of a broken relationship and nursing a broken heart. She is in business with Ben, for whom she has a keen eye, but her feelings don’t really seem to be reciprocated. She works mad hours, has little time for her own social life and it’s beginning to tell.
Add into the mix some bad reviews coming in for the trips they organise to India and something has to give. Spurred on by her friend Shelley, they soon book themselves onto a flight to Delhi, for a change of scene as much as anything but also to really check out what their tour organiser Nihal is getting up to! She is travelling under the guise of a tourist, not in her in capacity of CEO. Her tour group is waiting.
In Delhi it is a brisk introduction to the sights, sounds and smells of this frenetic city, and a chaotic welcome from Nihal. India is described in stark clarity, the poverty as much as the cows and dung assail the reader at every stop. But of course Delhi Belly floors the group members and it is with griping stomachs that they visit the Taj Mahal and travel on to Mumbai on a 15 hour train ride. Georgia is soon being offered love fruit – white jamun – an ideal bite on a bulging train full of the world and his wife, and it’s almost immediately off to the Elephanta Caves, the trip out of the city that many tourists take. Having visited myself I truly loved the descriptions of the statues hewn from the rock face, and of course the canny monkeys who will steal anything that isn’t firmly anchored.
A quick experience of the filming of a Bollywood movie and the group moves on to Goa. Remember, Georgia is still incognito and of course there comes a point where she is outed – at the Holi festival (when everyone throws paint at each other), things take a very different tack.
If you are going to India and fancy a light read, then this is ideal. And if you have already been, it will transport you back…
Having LOVED Katy Colin's first book Destination Thailand, I have been on a countdown to get my hands on book 2, Destination India. Who doesnt love a bit of escaping to another country and we get just that touching down in India. This can be read as a standalone but in my opinion you dont want to miss out on the whole series, so its best to start with book 1. I have to say in all honesty i prefered book 1 to book 2. There isnt anything bad to say about book 2, I just felt more engaged with book 1. Back with Georgia, we start off at her joint business adventure with Ben running the travel agent for single travellers. Georgia never takes a break and seems to work, eat and live the business. When a bad review comes in from one of their tours to India, Georgia decides to go undercover, travel to India and suss the tour out herself. Again finding herself alone steping off the plane in India, we are transported into a vibrant world of colour, smells and taste. As Georgia goes from one adventure to another, i constantly find myself routing for her like i have taken her to my heart and she is my new BFF. Stunning descriptions of the Taj Mahal, A train journey to Goa, Visits to her tour guide's family home, and lots of other treats will captivate you over and over. Watching Georgia grow and get her life back on track is a delight. Katy Colin's once again can prove there is life after a break up. My only disappointment is having to now wait a whille until i can get my hands on book 3, Destination Chile. Great work again from Katy Colins.
fter reading Destiation Thailand, the first book in the Lonely Hearts Travel Club series I was really excited to spot the new one on Net Galley and requested it immediately. Katy Colins has joined my list of authors to watch out for and the new book Destination India is another wonderful tour with Georgia the main character.
Georgia helps to run the Lonely Hearts Travel Club and after a bad review she decides the time has come for her to try out India and find out whether there are problems with the tour.
I loved the whirlwind tour round India with the cast of holiday makers. I could imagine myself joining them and immersed in the colourful imagery all around, the sights and smells were there for me. I really enjoyed the parts around the Taj Mahal- which is on my wish list.
I absolutely love the writing style, drawing you in and taking you on a hectic whirl of exotic experiences. This makes for the perfect summer read. It takes you on a very rich tour of a far out destination. Pack this one in your summer suitcase!
Apparently the next trip to Chile is due in the autumn and I will be eagerly awaiting the next book.
With many thanks to Carina Uk and Net Galley for the chance to read this one in exchange for an honest review
I enjoyed Destination Thailand and was hoping for similar for the next book in the series. Sadly not as good as the first. At parts, I found the writing incredibly childish (the yoga session in particular made me hate the book!) It was also rather predictable at times but it is chick lit so that is to be expected I suppose.
In all, a light fluffy read. I will probably read the next book in the series. Just hoping that Katy Collins realises that her target audience for this book are over the age of 10 and as such don't enjoy the childish humour as featured in this book. It really did spoil the book for me.
Reading this was the book equivalent of listening to a 19-year-old talk about the deep spiritual awakening they had on their "gap yah". I expected something at least entertaining from the Carina label.
Sometimes you just need a feel-good book that you know will have a happy ending, you know? This is one of those, and apparently just what I needed at the moment. Sure, reading about an epic tour in India didn't help my wanderlust, but it was a fun read. You can tell what is going to happen, but the way things happen are not always as predictable as the general mood and that's what makes this a nice series. This novel has all the India clichés, but then, it is literally about a package tour to India, so it would be weird if it didn't. And I like it that the main character is both an unbelievable superwoman running her business and an uncertain traveller who makes mistakes. My only issue is that certain phrases were repeated to death. I don't know if I paid attention to them only because I read this in Swedish, i.e. a language I don't use as much as I should/would like to and had to focus more, or if I would have noticed them if I'd read this in Finnish or English. Anyway, some warm feel good was achieved and I think that's what this book was meant for.
Destination India is the second book in the Lonely Hearts Travel Club.
Georgia and Ben have set up her business and it is quite successful but then a bad review is coming in and Georgia sets off to India to investigate.
Again this book is full of travel adventures, exotic places and lots of fun. Some scenes really made me laugh out loud. I also enjoyed visiting the sights in India.
I was a bit disappointed that the love story plays such a minor role in the second book as well. I do love the idea about the Lonely Hearts Travel Club, I definitely could see myself booking a trip there.
I am absolutely looking forward to the next book in this series.
Noia noia noia. Peccato.
Georgia Greenin matka jatkuu Intiassa.
Having spent months and months longing for Destination India to come out, needing another fix from the Lonely Hearts Travel Club, there was a tiny part of me that was nervous, incase either I had hyped the next book up in my mind too much, or that the first was a one book wonder. Well I definitely need not have worried, as Destination India is every bit as good as the first, if not even better.
Before I start waxing lyrical as that is all I want to do, I should assure people that are new to Katy Colins and her Lonely Hearts Travel Club series that this second book can be read as a standalone very easily, although for full enjoyment I would still recommend starting from the first book, especially if you love virtual travel.
Destination India starts with a pretty quick pace, that while Georgia was working and trying to keep control over every aspect of her business, she is quickly becoming a workaholic and unrecognisable to her friends and family. When some awful reviews of their India tour start coming through, in a drunken moment with a friend they decide to go on the tour themselves to sort it out once and for all.
Georgia ends up in India without her friend, but doesn't let it stop her. The descriptions from the second she lands in India, the initial meetings with her tour guide, to the sights and sounds of the places they go to, took me completely away from real life and I felt as though I was alongside Georgia experiencing it all for myself.
The destination and travel writing in the book doesn't overpower you with facts, although the "tour guide-off" at the Taj Mahal was fascinating and hilarious, with hidden messages being passed between the two guides in question, while their groups watched on bemused. The 15 hour train trip across India sums up a lot about this vibrant and misunderstood country and the section in Goa was colourful and felt like everything I imaginated the island to be.
I loved getting to know not only Georgia but also all the characters on the tour with her, where she is undercover, and seeing how she tried to help out her guide and understand the reasoning behind the reviews, just showed what a great person she really is.
Before I started this, I think I had been suffering a bit of a book hangover for a few days and had been struggling to read anything for longer than half an hour at a time. This has fixed me again thankfully and I devoured this in a matter of hours on a lazy Sunday afternoon. My only suggestion would be to make sure you order some Indian to go alongside this book, as you may find yourself craving a curry!
My only fault with this story was, that it had to end, and that I now have to wait months again for the next book, which I am as I suspect goes without saying really looking forward to. This is a series and author that is hitting all the elements I love in a book and putting them together in a fantastic way, creating unputdownable stories.
Thank you to much to Netgalley and Carina for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.
After reading Destination Thailand, Katy Colins' debut and first book in the series, earlier this year and absolutely loving it, I was really looking forward to join Georgia Green in her adventures again. In Destination India, we see a new side of hers: the business woman. Since coming back from Thailand, she has set up a new business: a travel agency that helps people, especially recently dumped people, find themselves again while travelling around the globe. But there's a slight problem, Georgia has become a workaholic. She no longer has time for friends, family nor travelling.
I found this premise really interesting, as you could clearly see how her character had evolved and changed from that lost girl with no clear goal in life to this determined one with a great passion for her work. But maybe a bit too much passion? As soon as she embarked on that plane to India, I knew we were in for some more self-discovering and some crazy adventures, and I was not wrong.
Georgia's trip to India is supposed to be a business one, as they have been having problems with this tour and she wants to find out what is going on but soon, we realise that India is a country where things are not that easy to control and Georgia's crazier spark makes a brilliant come back. As in the first book, I had such a great time following her around and discovering this new country through her eyes. As usual, Katy Colins makes a great job of describing the atmosphere of the place and I found myself wishing, more than once, that I could also be in India discovering this beautiful country.
I'm always a bit afraid of reading sequels when I have loved the first book so much, but I really think that the author managed to keep me interested all through the book and added new layers to the story, making you stop and think more than once if you are living the life you want and making you value the little things in life. That's there's a third coming our way in autumn makes me incredibly happy as I can't get enough of Georgia's shenanigans.
Destination India is another winner from Katy Colins, a rising star. Perfect to escape for a few hours to the colourful India! A highly recommended book for this summer.
*Book provided by the publisher on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
And Georgia’s story continues… YAY!!!
Destination India is Katy Colin’s second book in The Lonely Hearts Travel Club series.
The book starts in Manchester, where Georgia is now running her travel agency together with Ben, who she met in Thailand. She now is a workaholic and working all the time. She barley has time for friends or other things and traveling, oh well…
But then she takes the chance to go to India. It’s for business, but arriving there and being part of this tour and the adventure changes her again. She is the old Georgia now, the one passionate about traveling and adventures. It was very interesting to read about her transformation and I think Katy captured that beautifully.
While Georgia spends time in India, her business still has to work, so Ben hires Serena. Georgia doesn’t like the sound of her and that’s totally understandable. Serena seemed really weird…
There is also some drama going on in India, some of it involving Georgia directly, other involving some others as well.
I loved how her feelings for Ben were portrayed, something just changed in her. But what about him?!
We always got the whole picture of what was going on in India and bac in Manchester. After Georgia returned from her adventures the drama increased even more on several levels, which was great.
This story is an awesome mixture of different characters coming together, traveling, daily life issues, love and much more. Katy found a great way to include the character’s feelings, describe all the surroundings and build a story full of excitement, drama, passion, love and more. We saw different sides of Georgia and that was very interesting, especially seeing why one side might be overpowering at certain times.
Of course it was also a pleasure to read about India and all these wonderful settings. Katy created a sparkly atmosphere, where characters interact and the story flows vividly.
I can’t wait for the third book of this series, because I fell in love with the characters even more and Katy’s writing is just on point. I know I will repeat myself now, but Katy has a fresh, young, unique and mesmerizing style and this makes her a very talented and gifted writer with a unique voice.
Not as interesting as the book on Thailand but I have rated it higher because I couldn't put it down. I read it in a few hours and even though I didn't learn as much about India as I expected, I quite liked getting to know Georgia a bit better (and her business). Also, that scene when she goes to the Holi Festival was so relatable as I'd been on one (tho not in India!) and loved it :D Good thing I ordered book 3 when I ordered this one. I can just keep reading. Yaay!
I didn't enjoy this book half as much as the first in the series. I found it hard to get in to as there was such a negative tone throughout. I loved Georgia in the first book, but found her such a bore throughout this one. This took me forever to finish as I kept picking up other books instead, could not get into it at all. I really hope the next book is an improvement.
Not my usual choice of book at all but having finished the books I took on holiday I borrowed this from my daughter. I was soon hooked on the life of Georgia though at times I wanted to shake her. This book made me laugh out loud a couple of times and I’m glad that I started it on holiday as I’m sure I wouldn’t have read it otherwise.
I have previously read Destination Thailand and also Katy Colins new book Chasing the Sun, which is also part of the Destination series. Although I haven't read these in order, it has made no difference to my enjoyment of the novels. I still have Destination Chile to read, I'm looking forward to that!
So we are back in Georgia Green's world and Ben and her are running a travel company, when they start receiving bad reviews for one of their most popular tours (India, Golden Triangle) Georgia decides to take matters into her own hands and go undercover out there to discover what the problem is. Her trip is not plane sailing and there are many dramas along the way.
Although I really enjoyed this novel, I did prefer the first in the series Destination Thailand, I believe it's because there was more about the country and the surroundings in it, this followed a character and how to help him, it felt more like a mach making/love story, which was different to the first in the series.
I took this book with me to India, while I was on the Golden Triangle tour and I think this also added to my enjoyment, I must say that I feel Katy captured India very well.
If you have read any of Katy Colins books then you should read this one, it is a good addition to the others in the series and I can't want to meet Georgia in Destination Chile next.
I would like to thank the publisher for sending this in exchange for an honest review.
2.5 stars. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first. I like reading about an outsider’s perspective of visiting a really foreign country, but otherwise the romance and drama are kind of off.
