Jillian Milzner has lived a life on the run. Her biological sperm donor has made it clear he wishes she'd never been born. Most kids get presents from their dads growing up. He sent thugs to make death threats to ensure she never tries to find him. He needn't have bothered, since she wants nothing to do with Decon Filmore. His father, however, thinks Jill might be useful. Things go from bad to worse when her grandfather's goons snatch her up to deliver her to a man both terrifying... and straight out of her sexiest daydreams.
Lord Aveoth isn't surprised to hear from Decker Filmore. The man is desperate to make the GarLycan lord call off the hunt for his life, and equally determined to reclaim his VampLycan clan. To achieve both goals, he'll offer Aveoth yet another half-human granddaughter from his bloodline.
It's lonely being a lord of a clan, so Aveoth agrees to the meeting - and he's instantly attracted to Jill. He's also angry to learn she's been brought to him against her will, but he still wants to keep her. Even if it exposes his darkest secret... which could tear his clan apart.
I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
The GarLycans have just been added in the mix and this world keeps expanding and becomes more complicated.
Since book 1, I was dying to read about the story of Aveoth the GarLycan Lord. I was not disappointed. The story was fast-paced, interesting and a nice introduction to the GarLycan’s society and their strange customs.
Aveoth is a good leader. He cares about his people; he is fair but also ruthless when he sees injustice. He deserves his happy ending. His biggest secret is that he is also part VampLycan and he has an appetite for blood – especially for the blood of the granddaughter of Decker Filmore.
Decker Filmore sees an obvious opportunity here. So, he kidnaps his clueless granddaughter, Jill, and he will try to use her as leverage in order to get Aveoth to help him. Decker really wants to get his clan back and establish his power over the rest of the clans of the VampLycans.
Jill is smart-mouth girl, full of spirit and nerve. When suddenly she becomes the intended bride of a strange good-looking man who can fly and lives in a cave; she won’t be petrified. She will try to understand and she will eventually fall in love.
A really nice story. If you follow the series from book 1, this is the book where the story basically comes full circle. You will learn the secret about Aveoth’s father and you will see the conclusion for the parallel story of Decker and his evil plans.
Just a suggestion: it maybe a good idea to have a glossary of terminology in the beginning of each book.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: ❤️💙💜💚 Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔 World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎🌍 Character development: 😠☺️😋😍 Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Solo Narration
The heroine:Jillian - she grew up without a father. He wanted nothing to do with her and made sure she wouldn’t search him out by threatening her and her mother every few years because he didn’t want anyone to know about her. Though now, years after her mother passed away, two men show up and kidnap her.
The Hero:Aveoth - he is the leader of the GarLycan clan. They are the results of matings between Gargoyles and Lycans and are the strongest of all races. They have the ability to fly and cover themselves with a rock hard shell to protect themselves from injury. The evil Decker Filmore had wanted to trap Aveoth into an alliance by offering him his granddaughter, but both his granddaughters mated to VampLycans. Aveoth now wants to Kill Decker.
The Story: Aveoth was supposed to mate Decker’s sister many years ago and there was a plot to get him addicted to her blood, when he was small he was fed her blood. Since she died, he hasn’t mated to anyone else. Decker was the leader of one of the three VampLycan clans and wanted war with the other clans and figured if he could make an alliance with Aveoth, the two clans together could crush the others. So he was going to offer her someone of the same bloodline (his granddaughter).
Now Decker has been ousted from his clan and is on the run from Aveoth and his GarLycan clan as well as all three VampLycan clans. Decker has found and captured a third granddaughter Jillian, and plans to use her to exchange for his life. Jillian knew nothing of the supernatural world and is at the mercy of her evil grandfather.
Like the rest of this series, the heroine is strong and intelligent. She fights her captors and even tells Aveoth to beat the two thugs that kidnapped her, while she watches and cheers him on. I like that Aveoth was protective of her from the start and pissed at the guys for hurting her. You gotta love a man who is so opposed to violence against women. I also liked the fact that Aveoth has a secret and who doesn’t love a scene where bigots get put in their place.
This book is told in multiple points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Savannah Richards. Savannah has a great voice and does all sorts of characters very well (male and female). I really enjoy her narration style and I couldn’t wait for this book, since Aveoth has been a strong character all throughout this series. I wanted to hear more about the GarLycan clan as well.
I'm slightly disappointed in this book. I was so looking forward to reading Aveoths 'wings' book. He came across as dark, mysterious and alpha. Unfortunately reading this book he came across as a little desperate. 'I can't wait to sleep with a female who wants to sleep with me!' (Not knowing the heroine) very sweet (not always a bad thing but slightly weak with it) and beta!! This story was sweet but lacked any real depth fast instant love. I wanted darker, slightly edgier and a bit of grit. I wanted hero to keep that alpha mysterious air about him. Otherwise besides my own disappointments it was a fair read. Heroine was a tad annoying at times but had some funny moments with bad guys Can someone please tell me was he addicted to that bloodline? I don't think I ever worked it out lol!
Love it. LD is my go to girl for completely guilty pleasure reads. This series has been hit or miss but thankfully this one was a hit!! I've wanted Aveoth's story from the beginning and I wasn't disappointed. He's a basses sweetheart. Everything a girl could want in a garlycan mate. 😱😨😲😂😂😂 Garlycan Mate! (The things I read... ) Jill was a total smartass. A little too much so at times, but she was hilarious. I liked her a lot. All the females leads in this series seem to range from just slightly bitchy but tolerable, to way over the top I want to slap you so hard bitchy. Jill was in the slightly category.
There's a cool little secret revealed in this one that I was happy to know. Made sense. I wonder if it will stay secret for long and if it will effect the future of the series. Anywho, can't wait to see what Ms. LD gives us next- in this series or any of her others. I'll be in. Kinda hope there's a new New Species book soon though. They're my favs. Happy reading!
I found myself smiling and chuckling all throughout this book. I have loved each book in this series but I think this might very well be my favorite.
Aveoth is unlike any of the other characters he is witty well so are some of the others we have encountered I just found him to be amusing.
Jillian is a spunky character and I really enjoyed her from the very beginning and her nicknames are fantastic! HAHA to amusing for words. She made me laugh and smile so much and the two of them together with magic!
I am on to the next book I can’t wait!
Also Savannah Richards is amazing her performance it fabulous!!
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
Book 1 built up Aveoth so much that I was curious about him from the get go. Apparently, his legend only continues to grow as the series progresses, but I can imagine those that read all the others books being disappointed.
Having lost leadership of his clan and key Vampire Council support, Decker Filmore finds a bargaining chip to use against Lord Aveoth, leader of the Gargoyles, to cement an alliance that would all but guarantee his return to power and subsequent destruction of enemies.
Jillian Milzner and her mother have been hiding from her biological father for most of her life running from place to place until such time as his representatives find them though they're able to escape each time. With her mother now deceased, Jillian's on her own which may be why, this time when they find her, she's caught.
Finding out it's her grandfather who has abducted her with plans to serve her up as a concubine to a reclusive paranormal ruler ups the ante as Jillian discovers her blood is the sole reason she's been sought after all her life. Now a pawn in a political paranormal war, Jillian is offered up as a prize to guarantee that her grandfather wins.

7th installment in the VLG series that FINALLY features Aveoth, Gargoyle leader. Can be read as a standalone though better appreciated if reader has working knowledge of past installments. To say I've been looking forward to this story is an understatement as the buildup (in previous installments) has been stressing me out. Stone cold emotionless Aveoth has had a rough life and even rougher history in the romance/love department finally gets a mate. About time.
This book is pretty much a straightforward format romance between Jillian & Aveoth with a few roadblock obstacles thrown in to spice things up. Roadblocks that include Decker and his ongoing quest to become King and Alveoth's judgmental clan who are resistant to change. For fans of the series and author, I'm sure this will be very appreciated and enjoyed.
The actual romance between Jillian & Alveoth does eventually hit the adult content threshold though me, myself, and I felt there was more smoke than fire between the two. I had high hopes that these two were a match when they first meet as nothing says love more than busting heads and breaking bones in my book. Alas, the chemistry just wasn't as combustible as I'd hoped in subsequent scenes. In addition, unanswered questions linger. Non-spoiler vague comment example: a kiss is a kiss but is a kiss always a kiss forever more and beyond?
The cast of secondary characters was a successful blend of pros and cons that supporting the main characters and provided depth to the world building. Stand oust for me were Kelzeb, Chaz, & Fray though for different reasons. Jobi was a scene stealer and I loved him for that. Underappreciated character award goes to Mack. This character had so much potential and could have added a heck of a lot in terms of twists, turns, etc but wasn't. I'm also bummed about Lane and all circumstances surrounding her - I had high hopes maybe she and Winalin had history.... Oh well.
Regarding the actual story line and series plot side of things. I was looking for smoke, mirrors, etc in the story line that just weren't there. Overthinking on my part for sure but it is what it is. What I wouldn't have given to be a beta read or editor for this story. I guess the major issue I have is that for the overall series Alveoth has been portrayed as a ruthless, emotionless, cold hearted (and body as he's a Gargoyle) bad ass. He rose to power when he killed the former clan leader, his own father, and has since ruled his clan knowing that to show any weakness is to die himself. He's distanced himself both physically and emotionally. This story didn't support those concepts other than glimpses of passive/aggressive spurts here and there. Totally totally anti climactic for me. Alveoth, the character, deserved better.
I'm going to add that when a series has a rationale logical point that the beginning plot premise resolves (vague set of words but can't figure out how better to say it without giving anything away, so deal) a series should end. Spin off and/or new series if applicable but I respect an author who doesn't string their readers along just to keep a series going. Personally I thought this book would be the end of the series but I'm seeing comments that this isn't the case. I guess time will tell but for me I'm good now that all the main players have achieved their goals and found their mates.
I rarely pre-order books but I did for this one because I normally love anything L.D. writes and the VLG series has kept me entertained so far. Unfortunately, in this case, my expectations weren't met and I'm unlikely to re-read this book.
I found the heroine slap-worthy. Really. She was of the obnoxious, stupid, judgemental sort that I hate most. She's got zero social skills and if she were a real person, I really wouldn't be surprised if she ran into someone who'd clock her good at some point because she's big on insults if nothing else. Oh, and she's in definite need of some sessions with a therapist.
Also, I would have wished for better for Aveoth. I'd come to look forward to his book and the woman for him, so I'm disappointed now. She's a shrew.
She became a bit less obnoxious over the span of the book (or I'd probably have DNF'd this). The end was definitely better than the start.
The editing was bad. I'm used to the occasional error in LD's books and got over it because the stories kept me hooked, but in this case I really wondered why she even had an editor, if the one in question didn't do a good job. There were really obvious errors in it, which I think a real editor should pick up. That was just disappointing and lowered the enjoyment of this book for me even more. As it was, I got through the book mainly to be up to date on how the overall story unfolded and am now hoping that the next book will be better again.
Poor Aveoth... You deserved so much better. ;___;
(Oh, and like always I'm fascinated by goodreads "reviews". Even before the book was even released I saw that people had already up-voted it with 4 and 5 stars. And no, it hadn't been the 8th ANYWHERE on this planet back then yet....Really, guys?! Can we not agree to leave this BS practice elsewhere? LD does NOT give out ARC copies and only her editor and Kele read through them before the release, so people voting for them before the book is even out is just point-scoring. For what purpose?)
I'm gonna give this 4 stars, but I also have to say that even though I enjoyed it and gobbled it up nonstop... it wasn't anything special. ... and I was hoping for something special from Aveoth's story.
Aveoth the leader of the Garlycans was an enigmatic character in previous stories. He's all-powerful and instils fear in most, but in this story he loses ALL of that and becomes just a regular guy. Well, a regular guy with wings who can turn into moving stone, that is. But he was romantic and devoted and sweet.
Jill is the illegitimate granddaughter of Decker... yep Decker again. He has her kidnapped to try and force Aveoth to reinstate him as the leader of his Vamplycan clan AND all the other clans too. Guy is just nuts now! So Jill ends up with Aveoth and we go from there. The expected push and pull but not to any annoying degree. The expected trouble from Aveoth's clan but again, not to any worrisome degree. The wannabe OW who isn't really important to the story. Overall a nice smooth read that still kept my interest. The romance was sweet. I loved the ending!! Yeah!!
safety is all good.
p.s. there is also a nice set up for the next book about Creed. looking forward to it!
I have been really excited about a gargoyle book in particular Aveoth's book since book one and his book has been so well worth the wait. I loved this book from beginning to end in fact this is my favorite yet in this series. Aveoth is an amazing hero and person(?) We see and hear all these things about him but in his book we actually see the truth and who Aveoth really is. From the very second I was hooked on this book. Not only is it a great story but it flows really well.
Decker is at it again in this book and finds his granddaughter that had been hidden from him and offers her to Aveoth. Wanting his clan back and control Decker thinks this is his ticket.Being Kidnapped Jillian is thrust into a world she didn't know existed. Intrigued by Jillian Aveoth agrees to take her in but won't fall for Declers plan. Neither could have guessed how much meeting each other could change their lives and though Decker is gone he isn't done with his quest for revenge.
I loved this book. First lets start with Jillian, oh my gosh she was amazing funny and strong and don't take crap. I actually woke my husband up laughing in this book. I loved her she is a stand out character for this year for me. Aveoth was everything i hoped he would be and oh so much more. Their romance was greta and the story blew me away. We get some extraordinary twists that literally had my jaw dropping and made me love this series more and so excited for more. I wish this book hadn't ended I stayed up till it was done and wanted so much more, not because it was missing anything but because it was so so good.
I can't wait for book 8 I am so excited and for this wondering this one can be read on it's own.
I was so impatiently waiting for Aveoth book from the first moment I meet him. I have to say that he exceeded all my expectations.
One of the things why I love Laurann books is that her heroines are kick ass. And may not always literally, but they always are strong, sarcastic, funny and they never let fear to control them or theirs actions. So, since Jill is everything listed above, I adore her. She's made me laugh more then once. And she was a perfect match for Aveoth.
And talking about Aveoth. I loved him. I love how he claimed Jill from the first moment he saw her. He didn't cared that her bloodline may cause trouble in his clan. Aveoth just wanted her as his mate, and no one would stand in his way.
I can't wait for next book. After some snippets about the life Creed had, I'm so ready for his adventure to happiness. He so need it.
I love LD. Her imagination never fails to amaze me with her beautiful writing. I've started on this series and ive enjoyed the other books so much but tbh i had so much more expectations for Aveoth. Through out the series, he was portrayed as dark, strong, mysterious yet a broken lonely soul so i was really looking forward to see how his story would unfold but here...hes so...wimpy, desperate and...yeah which was not quite to his character that was portrayed from the other books of this series. And i don't usually have anything against strong heroines, matter of fact i prefer when my heroines can stand up for themselves and can pack a punch. A bonus if they also defy against the lead counter character but Jill just seems straight up b*tchy. I think she was suppose to be portrayed as "im a strong stubborn independant female with a smart mouth and im not easily affect by my emotions" but its not really portrayed that well in the story, she was more of..."im a stuborn brat whos also a blunt axe and will insult/accuse u because I'm ignorant". I also couldn't really see the relationship build up between the two mains, there was so much missing between these two. i just couldnt with this book. D:
I had been waiting patiently for this book since I started reading the series.I knew this would be good. It is different from the others because it dealing with the cold non emotional gargoyles. I loved the strength of Lord Aveoth. He was a great honorable leader that was keeping the Gargoyles at bay even though they had factions within themselves trying to overthrow him. I liked the banter between Jill and Lord Aveoth. They got along great together. Of course like most mates books, they feel in love pretty fast with each other. This has been the best in the series so far. We also learn some very interesting facts about Lord Aveoth and his parentage. I hope in books to come they will explore it more. This book and the las one were the best in the series so far. The others i gave 2-3 stars but books 6 & 7 are definitely 4 - 5 star books. Can't wait to read Creed. I think I might like the Garlycans better than the Vamplycans.
Been waiting for GarLycan Aveoth's story for a while and it's pretty good.
We learned that the deposed VampLycan Alpha Decker has yet another granddaughter to offer Aveoth. She is used to force Aveoth to kill the other Alphas so that he can rule all VampLycans.
Heroine Jillian knows nothing of her heritage except for the fact that every few years goons of her father will turn up with threats that made her mother pack up and relocate, until her mother died from not having any money to seek medical help. So she refused to acknowledge any relationship.
It's good that we finally get to learn more about Aveoth (his secret is pretty huge!) and the GarLycans. And the Decker problem is resolved once and for all.
Can I express my joy? Yes, I can 🙌 This book was so good.... and won't go into ny comparison because it would take too much time. I will just say I gave up hope for this series. I don't know what went wrong but this one from the first line was just different and no exhausted. And what did I get? So much more and surprises til the end! Yes, surprises even knowing that Lord was a secret man and certainly scary but it wasn't only him but also his race/animalistic side and clan so many to learn about them. Giving him another side, he wasn't just scary but was so much more. Did I mention fun? Yes, it was fun! Quite bat fun funny.
Well.. I gotta say that I was sooo looking forward to reading this baby! Aveoth... my baby "Wings"!
Though, I gotta say that he always sounded to me like an AWESOME alpha male! Seriously! I thought he would be the HOTTEST dark alpha EVER written, but...
He was not.
At first, he sounded just right as an alpha.. however, as the story progressed, at times, not always, he sounded a bit scared.. or maybe even a little desperate. :(
Most of the times he was sweet with Jill.. I LOVED that he couldn't control himself around her.
anyhooo... I think 4 stars should cover this baby, just because I had really high expectations for it.
5 Oh Me Oh My Stars!! ❤️ Wow this book was exactly what I needed to hit that spot. (Long Sigh) ☺️ I love books like this. Strong heroine and a sexy as hell alpha male!! Love Aveoth!! 🥰😍 He’s HOTT!!! I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy reading PNR with strong heroines and sexy tough badass heroes!
I liked Aveoth well enough but Jill got on my nerves a little. Her temper was too volatile but I enjoy getting more info about the Gargoyles. They were always so mysterious.
Double dibs on Aveoth aka MINE, I absolutely adore him...oh and he cooks, that’s where the double dibs came from, because that pushed him into dreamy badass for me *winks*. Loved Jill too, she’s a spitfire. If she had claws, I have no doubt she’d be one of the top predators in this book. She is sarcastic as hell and I appreciated it. She calls him Wings and talks about having his bat babies, so damn funny. She did give Aveoth a little resistance....until she too figured out he is a dreamy badass.
Jill is one of Decker’s grand daughters, so he had her kidnapped to give to Aveoth. Aveoth is pissed, but wants to protect her. He actually beats the kidnappers asses, because Jill asked him to....they really are a perfect match. These two just have so much raw chemistry. Two lonely souls that definitely needed each other.
Aveoth addressed the clans traitors, which I also loved. We get to find about Aveoth’s past and how crappy his dad was, but I adore is sweet mom. So, he got his dad’s toughness, but his mom’s heart of gold. As with all the books, there is a lot that happens....a couple of things I was so excited about. One of the things had my heart for sure, was so sweet and made me so happy.
I love this series and this is my favorite book...don’t forget, double dibs *winks*.
I confess that this book was what I most expected. From the beginning the figure of Aveoth has become something mysterious throughout the series. As leader of the GarLycan, he was strong and feared by all. Being an ally of him was a privilege.
From the beginning of the series, we meet Decker and all his tricks to be the general leader, even if he has to sacrifice the happiness - and life - of his own granddaughter. A granddaughter he never cared but now he wants her to have as a bargain for Aveoth's protection and support.
When Decker's granddaughter, Jillian Milzner, is taken by force to Aveoth, she appears quite different from the kind of woman he knew. She amuses him with her requests. In addition, she starts putting nicknames on the Garlycans, such as Wings and Stone Garden.
The interaction between Aveoth and Jill intensifies, and he as leader, knows that the Old Guard will be against his union with a human. In addition, he must resolve internal issues in his clan. Much confusion happens as their romance grows.
But the worst is yet to come. Aveoth keeps a great secret that can not only make him lose his position of leader, but also put all whom he cherishes and loves in danger. 5 stars
This book is packed full of revealed secrets and action, I love it! Aveoth is one of my favorite characters, he is so quiet and misunderstood you just know he has to be hiding a gentle soul beneath all that stone. They might have met under unorthodox circumstances, but he and Jill were meant to be together. The best part of this book is that we finally get to see what happens to the neighborhood bully. I really hope the author continues to add books to this series, we keep meeting all of these characters I just can’t wait to see reach their HEA.
I've been waiting for Aveoth's book since book 1 and this did not disappoint! Love him and Jill and adore their story. And the Velder twist made it even better. Can't wait until the next one!
I absolutely LOVED this one! I think its my favorite so far in this series. Both Aveoth and Jilian were delightful. Finally a smart heroine who knows what she wants and fights for it. I won't say more so I don't spoil it for anyone, read it ... you'll love it!
