Short story set aboard the Kolheim ship which is attacked by space pirates.
Alien pirates. No ammo. Starfleet ain’t coming. Erryn Kolheim is the best damn freighter pilot this side of the core worlds. She was born in space, bred in it. She’s one of the best, but even the best fear pirates.
On a routine run across the galaxy, Erryn’s ship is stopped by Pegg pirates. While small, the nasty creatures make up for their size with a love for violence.
Erryn can go around them. Space is big, after all. But it ain’t safe. Avoiding one danger might mean another, if they can even avoid the first danger at all.
But Erryn’s a damn good pilot, and she won’t give up her ship without a fight.
Will Erryn overcome the scourge of space? If you like space sci-fi like Firefly, you’ll love this short story addition to the expansive Warpmancer Universe. Make sure to buy your copy of Shipborn today!

This is a short tale of piracy, space battles and what to do when the invaders cut the gravity generator. The last line - she wouldn't have it any other way - is not convincing given how many fellow crew have been killed, I'm afraid. I did think the book was well written, but not for the tender or those who would strive for harmony. Be prepared for exploding heads, gobs of blood etc. If that suits you go for it. I downloaded a copy from Instafreebie. This is an unbiased review.
"Ever shoot a pumpkin? A watermelon?" A well written, easy to read short story set on board the Kolheim, an independently owned ship which has, in the past, had a booming trade supplying the frontier settlements with food from the prosperous central regions. Despite evasive manoeuvres, the Kolheim is attacked during a voyage, by the Pegg, space pirates who murdered Eryn's family years before. And they play dirty ...
Erryn Kolheim, the pilot of the space vessel, Kolheim, is maneuvering her ship around the blockade set by the Pegg, the notorious space pirates that murdered her parents, when a “warp” to the Obzi Terrace and an old Trooper Starfleet facility proves less than abandoned. Dodging an attack from an AI on a “weapons plat,” the ship re-encounters the Pegg pirates that have manage to follow her through the warp. The Pegg are able to shut down vital shipboard life systems and board the vessel. However, Erryn is “shipborn” and knows the Kolheim better than any marauding space pirate ever could.
Shipborn, a “side” story in the Warpmancer universe, tells us a thrilling tale of action aboard the Kolheim with plenty of fighting, excitement, escape, and bravery. Nominally, the ship is captained by a “dirt-birther,” Gabriella Madias, an appointment from the ship’s corporate sponsor, The Titus Corporation. However, the real knowledge and leadership comes from the shipborn captain, Barry Kolheim and the pilot, Erryn.
If Han Solo were female Erryn might be his name. A short read by Nicholas Woode-Smith set in The Warpmancer Universe. Just enough of a taste to hook you and make you want to read more.
A gripping short story from the Warmancer series that had me turning the page to see what would happen next. If this is any indication of the series, I can’t wait to read more.
This was a strange story about a freighter in space and the aliens called Peggs. A battle was fought inside the freighter despair turned to victory and they were able to escape the trap. I do recommend this story.
