Chewbaccca is a Wookiee on a mission! He has traveled to a mysterious island on the planet Ahch-To with his friend Rey to famed Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker. But Chewie doesn't expect to find the porgs, cute and mischievous creatures that inhabit the island.
For years the porgs have lived in peace and harmony. But when Chewis arrives, the cute little creatures must learn to share their island--and their food--with the might Wookiee.
And so begins the laughable, lovable relationship between Chewie and the porgs!
From Emmy award-winning writer Kevin Shinick comes a lovable tale of Chewbacca the Wookiee and the pesky porgs of Ahch-To Island. Featuring adorable illustrations by artist Fiona Hsieh.
Kind of a cute story for young ones. What was Chewie up to while Rey argued with Luke? Why, he was trying to get something to eat, while fending off the curious porgs. And Chewie is, of course, a real softie. While the story is ok, the artwork by Fiona Hsieh is beautiful!
This was a beautiful, sweet little book that's sure to get kids to fall in love with Chewbacca and Porgs. I didn't grow up during the time of the original trilogy, I actually came of age during the Prequel films, but I did grow up watching the VHS tapes of the original trilogy my parents owned. Chewie was always the character I got stuck playing because I was so tall, but I didn't mind because Chewie was awesome. And so seeing Star Wars become popular again, and seeing a new generation of kids coming to this creative universe is both beautiful and inspiring.
And this book is just one dozens of wonderful books I know this next generation will have. There were never really picture books for Star Wars, let alone about Chewie. Gotta say, I'm pretty envious.
You know you're taking your "I'll read every Star Wars book" commitment seriously when you find yourself relaxing with a picture book called Chewie and the Porgs. The artwork here is really nice, and the language is rather pleasant, with clever layout. The sweetness of the conclusion is tempered a bit by the nagging thought that Chewie ate at least one of those little guys. I mean... ??
This was adorable but I just don't think it work for a storytime unless it was a Star Wars themed storytime since there are too many references to the world for someone that wasn't familiar with it.
No olipa söpö. Ensimmäinen lukeman Star Wars -kirja. Lapsikin tykkäsi, porgit oli kuulemma kivoja. Kyllähän tämmöisillä on mukava tutustuttaa kolmevuotiasta Star Warsin maailmaan :)
I was a bit concerned about this book, especially after a certain scene in The Last Jedi, but it is so darn cute. The illustrations are simply phenomenal and it will make a great addition to a family Star Wars program we usually have at my work around May 4th.
I love artists renditions of Chewie. He is always fiercely cute. The pictures are REALLY cute, the story flows even though it is a little wordy. The story shows that Chewie is quite intelligent. I am guessing that this is how the Porgs get introduced into the movie. So this little introduction is FAB!! I would totally buy this in a heartbeat.
I bought this for my husband as a Christmas gift. Was cleaning up in the living room and found it again so I read it finally. It’s funny, cute, AND sweet. You’re never too old for a little story time.
Well this was just adorable! The illustrations are beautiful and fun. The story is a nice reimagining where Chewie is actually friends with the porgs rather than cooking them. The plot isn’t anything overly thrilling, but cuteness levels are high. Would definitely read to a small child!
Very cute story with appealing illustrations. However, one must be familiar with the Star Wars movies in order to appreciate and understand the story (which I am--familiar with the movies, that is).
I read this for the "Title Beginning With C" part of my 2020 reading challenge. This was adorable and funny and well illustrated, and packed full of Porgs.
This is a very cute picture book, and we are using it to introduce our infant son to Star Wars. He is very obsessed with all the little porgs and tries to grab them off the page.
I usually start with a plot summary, but what else is there to say when the title says it all? "Chewie and the Porgs" is about...well...Chewie and the Porgs. Taking place in the "Star Wars" universe set between the movies "The Force Awakens" and "The Last Jedi," we see Rey and Chewbacca arrive on the planet Ahch-To. Rey is looking for Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca is there to escort her, help out, and keep an eye on the ship. What follows is a freaking adorable story about Chewie encountering the cute porgs---bird-like creatures that inhabit the island. Chewie is annoyed. The porgs are curious. And overall it has such a sweet story to it. This is a children's picture book, but I think fans of all ages can enjoy this. Porgs are a pretty divisive topic in the "Star Wars" fandom. Some people love them. Some people hate them. I'm definitely pro-porg. I mean...look at them! If you do have a child, the story is simplistic, easy to follow, and I think tells a nice little message by the end. Plus, if you are a die-hard fan, this might be an easy way to acquaint your child with this world before moving them into the movies. I really adored the artwork as well. The art was colorful and just made me happy looking at it. It's just cute from start to finish. So a definite 5-stars for me. Great art, great story, and lovable characters.
Don't mind me guys, sniff, I'm just OMG ahem I'm O K AY writing this slkjfls;dfj with happy tears in my eyes. SUCH A CUTE STORY. Another cute story: while filming The Last Jedi, oh calamity!! There were puffins e v e r y w h e r e and the SFX crew found it easier to just VOILA create the adorable puffy porgs rather than digitally erase all those flappy f///s. I love movie magic :D
This delightful picture book has the snarkiest narrator which I appreciated and informs us of the only fact you need to know about the Star Wars universe rly: Wookiees have hearts of gold. And it shows, the love and the kindness and the fun (that these movies and these giant furry sidekicks hold). It shows throughout this whole book and I also recommend paying attention to some heartbreaking details (a certain something to the left of the blue puff cubes bag). UGH this book is perfection my dudes. Check it out.
Chewbacca and Rey land on the Porgs' planet while Rey is seeking Luke Skywalker. Chewie is hungry and searches high and low for food while the Porgs, being curious creatures, make things more difficult for him with their energetic interference and observation. When Chewie realizes that they are hungry, too (the Millennium Falcoln landed right on their food stores), he helps them all find food and soon they are fast friends. There are some funny parts when the Porgs get into trouble and have Chewie roaring in frustration and the illustrations are adorable, but there isn't much of a story. The kids in our storytime appreciated all of the Porg and Wookiee noises, though and had a blast sounding off!
THIS WAS SO ADORABLE! I absolutely loved this book so much that I want to own it. The illustrations are so darn cute you gotta love the porgs and the book! How can you not? Chewie is also pretty cute and added a bit of humor to the story. It's mainly about Chewie trying to get along with the porgs and the porgs investigating who Chewie is and what's going on. An adorable story and perfect for bedtime or anytime! I want to read it again.
If you're a Star Wars fan, especially if you love the porgs, you'll enjoy this book.
Spoilers: Chewie doesn't eat any porgs in this story.
My kids are still smallish enough that we could read this together and have a good laugh. It tells the story of Chewie interacting with the porgs of the Last Jedi, in a cute and heartwarming fashion.
If you're looking for Star Wars canon, I'm pretty sure this isn't it.
But it is a fun little story about everyone's favorite Wookiee with some really cool artwork.
