The marriage between Reiki and Shamanism is so obvious that the thought never even occurred to me. My shelves are lined with books on various types of Reiki, a bunch of Joseph Campbell (Journey of the Hero) like books, and a nice selection of personal journey, self help titles. In my Reiki practice, I have always encouraged my clients to use Reiki as a tool to self understanding. My position is that true healing comes from self acceptance and resonance with the genuine self. I don’t know why I didn’t see the connection sooner.
Reading Shamanic Reiki gave me a profound ah-ha moment. I’ve always felt that Reiki didn’t quite describe what I do and what I believe that my clients need. In the past, I’ve been frustrated by individuals who simply want me to cure their ills. I know that the energies can relieve their pain. I also know that by continuing the same life patterns, these same individuals will soon find themselves in the exact same position. I’ve always thought that Reiki should be used not only to relieve the clients concerns but also as a way to understand the root of the problem.
Now I see that the authors of Shamanic Reiki suggest exactly this. They seek to ask more of both the practitioner and the client. This involves a partnership of sorts, a commitment to healing and personal growth on the part of both parties. This is the kind of practitioner I want to be.
This is/was the textbook for my weekend Shamanic Reiki Level 2 course. It kindly gives you many tools that you can put in your healing basket, use some, don't use others. Its up to you. Written with a lot of love. We can use Reiki to help in Shamanic healing and we can use Shamanic techniques in our Reiki practice. Always for the highest good!
This book has lots of in depth information, but as a Reiki Master Teacher and a student of Shamanism, I am dismayed that there is no disclaimer that the Shamanic techniques explained in the book should not be practiced without studying under a Shamanic healer or Medicine person.
I would never attempt journeying for others without guidance and lessons from my Teacher.
I hope others will consider this before implementing these.
Aside from that important point, I valued the information presented.
“Each individual has the power to heal themselves. That power is amplified through unconditional, loving environments”. We as a species, we as a planetary whole were born with everything we need to be healed from past pain and to heal others. We are quipped with this ability! It is in our hearts, minds, souls and at the very tips of our fingers.
I am not attuned to Reiki. I am simply a receiver and an advocate so far. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in healing. Especially those with trauma.
This book was borrowed from the public library system in my county but this is definitely a book I must purchase to read and reread.
I am getting into meditation, deeper and deeper each passing day it seems. This book has helped my “journey” to my safe place, to get closer to “meeting” my spirit guide. Wonderful, beautifully written book.
I read this book with a close friend who is also a shamanic practitioner, as we were interested in learning about how we might be able to combine our shamanic work with our reiki healing. All in all, this was very mixed book for both of us. Some of the definitions offered by the authors seemed overly simplistic, or alternately overly complex. There were techniques that they offered that did enhance my work and that I would add to my healing kit. This was particularly true in the chapters about dealing with retrievals and incursions. I found them to be totally off base and overly complex in the matter of distance healing. They make it harder than it has to be. I also would not incorporate some of their tools. From my perspective, they over-emphasize cleansing, and I would never soak stones in salt water for this purpose. By the time we reached the last 4 chapters, we were over this book and ready to move on. We did rather speed-read through the end.
Honestly, it wasn't a total loss because it caused me to re-evaluate my own healing practices and see where I could incorporate shamanic methods with which I am knowledgeable. It also caused me to see what a healing minimalist I am. I know what works at this point, and am confident in my capabilities.
One of the reasons is the emphasis the authors put on the responsibilities of the client in their healing process. Most healers focus on their healing technique and often the client is just to passively receive the healing. This book encourages the client to participate more directly with their healing.
The Reiki is incorporated with the healing guides, totems and crystals. This is often not acceptable to strict Reiki traditions. However, I often find the strict Reiki traditions are often so strict that they sacrifice the healing to focus more on their traditions.
Encouraging the client to participate in their healing, empowers the client. Without empowering the client in their healing, the client will probably need to return to the healer for more sessions. As a Healer I want my clients to be healed and to have the power to heal them self and only to return when they need assistance in their issues. We all need assistance, even the healers.
This book is chock full of practical ways to incorporate shamanism into your reiki practice. Not only were the concepts behind the practices explored, but the authors' "use it if it suits you" approach was very refreshing. I will be combining more shamanistic elements in my reiki practice from now on. Great book!
This is a beautiful & informative guide for people working with Reiki energies. I began reading this book after completing my Level one Reiki training and will refer to this book often in the future. I highly recommend this for anyone interested in the subject.
