Excalibur Rising Book Four is the final episode of the Excalibur Rising Series where all questions are answered. Merlin's magical powers are fading and Albion faces enemies on all sides. While Arthur's heir fights for the possession of Camelot, Ryan races against time to rescue Violet from the Isle of Avilion.
Eileen Enwright Hodgetts is a much traveled writer. Brought up in England and Wales, she has also lived and worked in South Africa and Uganda. Eileen and her husband, Graham, now make their home in Baden, PA. Eileen’s life experiences allow her to use exotic backgrounds for her novels and to understand how an adventure can begin with just one small incident. For ten years she directed a humanitarian mission in East Africa as an employee of Christ Church at Grove Farm in Sewickley, PA. and her whole family continues to be involved in Uganda through the Ugandan Gold Coffee project bringing coffee to the United States and returning the profits to Uganda to be used for drilling water wells. She writes historical fiction from Arthurian sagas to World War Two murder mysteries. The major movie "Unsinkable", currently in production, is based on her national award-winning stage play "Titanic to all Ships". Her latest work "The Girl on the Carpathia - A novel of the Titanic" reflects over twenty years of research into both the US senate hearings and the British inquiry into the sinking.
I wanted to like Book 4. The writing style is sound and Hodges does a good job building the characters. Unfortunately the novel has plot holes, situations where stuff just happens and the story problems detract from what should be a solid 4 star story. Instead of focusing on the people I get annoyed with the situations and that’s not what the author intends.
All four books in this saga will draw you in begging for more. From modern England through a magical portal to a war torn world hidden in mist not knowing of the final outcome. This has been a very pleasant ride. From Knights of The Roundtable to flying ships in including Merlin in the mix, this tale will entertain you from start to finish. Well done. This saga will some day make for a great movie.
The final book if the Excalibur saga from both ends of a portal, but to find out more you will have to read the saga yourself. This was an interesting series with turns I was not expecting but wanted to finish the series it was well worth it...
I thoroughly enjoyed all four of the series and could not put the books down. This was a different and inventive version to the other King Arthur and Excalibur books I have read which was refreshing. Well done Eileen.
I enjoyed this book,it was a bit slow in spots but then picked up again, the characters were diverse and well established,I really liked this twist on the autharian legend
I loved this whole series so much that I wanted it to continue on so I could read more about the lives of the main characters. I especially loved Violet, Marcus and Freddie, these three just came alive, I felt that I knew them. There’s also a goofy, lovable dog, Wally. Such an fascinating retelling of the Excalibur Legend. I read all the books in just 5 days while on vacation, real page turners. I liked the way the last book ties up the loose ends of all the story lines. The author made Camelot feel like a real place. I’m looking forward to reading more books by Eileen Enwright Hodgetts.
I was so disappointed with the ending. I’ve invested into 4 books and got zero resolution. I was in this story. I was captivated by where it was going and then I was given the most abrupt and anticlimactic ending imaginable. If you weren’t able to wrap it up properly, then write a fifth installment! Make it a longer book! Heck, you could have done one more chapter or an epilogue and had some resolution. I have no clear idea what happened to characters I’ve followed for FOUR books. I’m mad.
Not Kindle Unlimited, must be on the ARC team or whatever, one of those they send you a free book and hope you review it type things. was all right, just so much time between books {and a whole slew of reviews by me for other books} that was like, well this is okay and all, but now time to go read other stuff, which is not horrible attitude but not great.
I think this whole series was so creative. We all know the traditional story of Camelot and King Arthur. But this author takes us beyond that and meshes that world with our world. And does it very well.
It was an easy read. Not a lot of 'historical' moments, which was refreshing. The characters that were created read true to their roles and the time periods were realistic.
Of course, there will be a fifth novel in this never ending series. At least the fourth book felt like there was a natural conclusion. Hopefully the fifth book will also.
