Dan Kotler and Agent Denzil are on the case of solving the theft of the Devil’s Interval. They must also solve the murders of Ashton Mink and Lawney Bristol.
The Devil’s Interval is a mind control device. And Ashton and Lawney are both a part of the company that invented the device.
I feel like I am definitely enjoying a wild ride while reading this book. I just love the feeling of being with the author and his heavy handed mystery solving. Thank goodness for the fast pacing splash the book goes through.
There is a lot going on in this book. And I’m just happy to be along for the ride.
The Devil's Interval (Dan Kotler #3) by Kevin Tumlinson This is a bit different from the other two books. It wasn't really an archeological dig or item. This was about mind control through a device made to help people. As corny as it sounds as I write this, it really was pretty good. Our hero gets kidnapped again! This book was unpredictable, not like the last book. Action packed, suspenseful, and quite the thriller!
Huge rock star Ashton Mink has retired. He now donates his time and energy toward heading up a company that does research into hearing options for the deaf. His brilliant head scientist has come up with an innovation that they name “The Devil's Interval.” however, they soon discover that it is a dangerous “invention” that can cause horrendous problems. The company decides to bury it and erase all data that they have regarding it. Someone, however, disagrees and copies some secret files – and pays for it with his life.
Enter archeologist Dan Kotler and his partner FBI Agent Roland Denzel who is now head of the Historic Crimes Division of the FBI. Together with Detective Holden from the NYPD, they search for clues and attempt to track down the stolen research and the ne'er-do wells who took it. The research shows the way to creating a device that can control minds.
Well written and plotted, Mr. Tumlinson has another winner on his hands. I like Dan and Roland and they make great partners. They are not shy about questioning their own motives and purpose. Although predictable, I truly enjoy these little mysteries.
I am looking forward to reading the next in the series.
Another surprising, inspiring mystery thriller of Dan Kotler's and FBI agent Roland. From New York to London, suspicions, ancient scientific journals with powerful information, murder solving and dangerous situations. All with a typical sense of humour from the main characters. Kevin is getting better and better with this series! I'm getting addicted, and can't get enough! Let's go solve another one!
*slight spoiler alert Another world-class thriller that sees MC Dan Kotler and sidekick FBI Agent Roland Denzel fighting enemies, old and new on every side - even among Denzel's fellow law-enforcers - in a race to save the world's inhabitants from mass destruction by the eponymous mediaeval discovery, recreated by Isaac Newton, in The Devil's Interval, the third adventure in this series by the amazing Kevin Tumlinson.
The murder of popstar Ashton Mink triggers a desperate battle between Kotler and his beautiful nemesis Gail McCarthy, [head of a nefarious criminal network started by her grandfather and 'Uncle' and employing the skills of] scientist Patel, who's working under duress. Into the fray comes Lead Forensic Specialist, Dr Elizabeth Ludlum, who works with Kotler and Denzel to try to defeat Gail's client, who wants to acquire the machiavellian aspects of the so-called Devil's Interval and achieve world domination.

Dan Kotler has been described as a mix of Indiana Jones and Robert Langdon, and that about sums him up. In this latest thrilling blockbuster he combats a mind controlling device inspired by the work of Isaac Newton. Five star entertainment from start to finish.
Kotler and Denzel are back! The Devil's Interval is their next adventure, following the events that happened in The Atlantis Riddle. It's more of what I've come to love from this series with two fun main characters in Kotler and Denzel doing what each of them does best (and a little of what doesn't come best). If you've read either of the first two books, you already know what you're getting with this one, and that's a good thing!
This story picks up a little time after the ending of The Atlantis Riddle, where Kotler and Denzel are working through historical crime cases using their newly created division of the FBI. Denzel provides the law enforcement muscle, while Kotler provides the historical and knowledge necessary to fit the clues together. It's not quite that black and white since they each are the type of person who is driven to be useful, so they both get a little outside of their wheelhouses, but you get the idea.
This time, their investigating a case connected to the Sir Isaac Newton's Devil Interval. This musical interval (discovered by Newton), started out as a means to help those with hearing disabilites, but is soon discovered to have far more powerful, and frightening, effects. It's a race against time as Kotler and Denzel try to discover the pieces, see how they fit into the puzzle, and take down the mastermind before the plan is completed to devastating conclusions.
This is a great next step in the Dan Kotler series. You'll run into some new faces along the way, but this story primarily centers on Kotler and Denzel as they learn to navigate this new division they've joined and grow through it. There's a budding friendship occurring beneath the surface of these historical cases fueled by mutual respect for the work each other does. Both are too cool to say it, but you can see what's going on.
This is an action story through and through. I love that Kevin centers this series around historical artifacts. It almost makes me feel like I'm learning something new while I get to enjoy the action story. Kotler and Denzel make a great team and I love seeing how their partnership is developing with each story. Both are capable on their own, but teaming up puts them both into another level.
If you're an action story fan, there's a lot to like with this series. The characters are great and the historical aspect seem solid to me. I love seeing Kotler and Denzel's partnership grow and look forward to seeing the next mastermind they take on.
The devil interval is deadly in the wrong hands yet stared so innocent
Ashton Minks rock and roll God wants to do good with all his wealth and an introduction to a small deaf girl sets him on the road to try to help everyone hear and feel the music. Dr Simon Patel a genius who looks at the unusual and lost mystery of the past to help in today's world. That's the start. We have already heard or read that Sir Isaac Newton experimented in all kinds of things well he features again in this story. An experiment " the devils interval " is actually a music term and Dr Patel thought he saw potential to help the poor or deaf hear again or for the first time, then he saw the problem used wrong it could be used for mind control on letting Ashton and the CEO of the company know it was all shut down immediately and locked away, except Ashton wanted to see if he could possibly manipulate the research so made a copy of all the data. Thats when it all went wrong, Ashton is murdered for the copy, Dr Patel's assistant Dr Lawley Bristol dies in an accident. Dan Kotler and Roland Denzel FBI get involved when Dr Patel disappeared. From then on there is a ride you don't want to miss. From New York to London its a race to find the culprits and the reasons then Kotler is kidnapped only to be freed unharmed into Gail McCathy's hands oh boy you don't want to miss this book. I guessed some riddles was led a red herring in my other thoughts did I get the culprit maybe did I guess why no chance. I highly recommend this book and thanks to the author Kevin Tumlinson for his brilliance

How much do you value your freedom? That is what is at stake for the world in this third novel in the series..
It begins with a wealthy retired rock star using his resources to find a better way of combatting deafness. From that worthy objective comes the possibility of a dreadful weapon. Theft, murder, kidnapping, treachery, fist-fights and gun-fights ensue as archaeologist Dan Kotler and his FBI friend and colleague Roland Denzel race to use their unique mix of skills to prevent disaster.
The two main characters continue to grow and develop, and I do recommend reading this series in order to appreciate this and to see the ongoing effects of past events. Neither man is a superman or infallible, and In this book both protagonists (at different times) suffer crises of confidence in their suitability for the work that they have fallen into. It is interesting to see how each is handled.
This is an enjoyable series - as witness, the fact that I am currently re-reading the whole series prior to starting the latest offering, book 9, “The Hidden Persuaders”.
I have now read all of the books in this series and every one of them are top notch, must read books! The research and talent that went into this book is compared to Dan Brown, maybe even better! I don't want to spoil this book for anyone, so I will stay vague in this review, but I have always wondered if the technology presented in this book was scientifically possible. I actually think it is to some degree possible, maybe not exactly in the same method presented in this book, but similar variations, and to a lesser extent, I believe have been employed!
Anyway, you don't want to miss reading this book and the whole series! They will definitely be the best books you read this year!
OK, #3 in the Dan Kotler series finished. So far, so good. The dude is still alive, though, once again, just barely. One thing I like about this series so far is that the story is linear and does not stop and start from one book to the next. Things that happened and people we met in books one and two still have relevance in this book.
OK, the big reveal. I actually bought these books (all 3 boxed sets), so these were not given to me as a promo for a review. I DID receive a short story for free and that enticed me to purchase the box sets. Not regretting that decision yet and don’t figure I will. These are books worth reading unless you really hate thrillers, and if you do, why in the world are you reading this review?
This is a nail-biting thriller as an attempt to create a means for the deaf to hear without cochlear implants goes violently astray and produces an unimaginable weapon for evil. The writing style is direct with a minimum of ancillary description. The characters are not particularly complex, but one turns out to be a real surprise. After an initiating murder, there is little violence until the end. However, the story is still suspenseful as Kotler uses his role as an FBI consultant to plumb deep into the elements surrounding the murder and the company owned by the victim. Many twists in the plot make this book hard to put down until it is read.
As is the case with all Kevin Tumlinson's adventures I've read to date, this book was a thrilling page-turner. Dan Kotler is both brilliant and likable, the kind of hero the world needs. His talents and personality are well-counterbalanced by his partner, FBI agent Roland Denzel. There's just enough personal drama to allow this reader to connect with the characters without allowing the plot to become bogged down by it. Tumlinson writes with the skill and imagination of Clive Cussler, the scientific mind of Michael Crichton, and the humanity of Dan Brown.
Another 5 star read from Kevin Tumlinson. The Devil's Interval is book # 3 in the Dan Kotler series. As is the norm in this series, it is full of twists & turns. Dan's nemisis, Gayle, returns in an unexpected way. Was Isaac Newton on the verge of a mind control invention? Could modern folks who discover is workshop & notebook find his secret & expand on it? Dan, along with his FBI "partner"/boss, are on the hunt to stop what would be a disaster in the wrong hands. Read it; you'll like it.
Kevin Tumlinson delivered again. The Devil's Interval is a great book and lefs through bad guys, tunnels, and more. Old and New. I like the character interaction. Now just me I would like a lttle more meat on the bones...details. However the author tries afterwards why the deails are sometimes thin. I may not agree...it just takes a little research...but this way books can be turned quicker and he explains that is what he loves to do. Me I like depth. But I still enjoyed...he kept me til the end.
I am hooked on this series but it seems the author is stretching out the story with implausible plot twists and unanswered questions that are obviously there to set up interest in the next book in the series. It was okay after the Coelho Medallion, but the hanging plot thread of Gail McCarthy after Atlantis Riddle and in this book left me I satisfied with the ending and annoyed at the delicious berate hook to buy the next book in the series.
In this installment of the series, Tumlinson takes us on a journey that began long ago, and has reared its head in the present. Using long ago discovered technology, a charitable company has discovered a cure for hearing loss, but it has deadly consequences. Join Dr Kotler and Agent Denzel as they discover what lies beneath this amazing tech and try to stop it from taking over the world.
I love his works... he is an incredible author, and I love what he writes. He gets you hooked right in the first page or so, and there really is no letting go, as long as you have the time to do it, just read, I mean. I love this series, it is fun, interesting, educational, and a wild ride all rolled into one!!
The story is about a breakthrough in audio technology for those with hearing loss. We have had cochlear implants. Now we have direct to the brain hearing, only something goes wrong and what we have is a new weapon that some will pay big money so they can control the minds of the world. Denzel and Kotler are thrust into the role of saving the world.
This is my third novel by Mr. Tumlinson. His writing continues to entertain and enlighten. In this story, we learn of hearing implants, high tech security measures, mind control from a distance. All combined, they make for an interesting read. I look forward to reading the next novel - The Girl in the Mayan Tomb.
Fun read and fun series. I keep deciding to finish the next book in the series and then move on to something else on my Kindle, but as I'm writing this I'm also downloading book 4.... This archaeological mystery series is great, Fan Kotler is a likeable, successful, and most importantly, flawed individual who you find yourself rooting for the whole time.
The Dan Kotler Archaeological Thriller series has become one of my favorites, of all that I have read! Four books in and I have been hooked! Everything about this book and rest are done extremely well and have no complaints! I definitely suggest checking these books out!
Thus is the third in a series I shall continue to read. Nicely paced, interesting characters, and a good mix of descriptive writing and drama that flows well. The recurring \ ongoing cast of characters also does well to set up another story, continuing the series. Well done, thank you.
Another solid Dan Kotler adventure story. Fast paced with lots of action, adventure and history. I thought the plot was strong and well told. Love the dynamic between Kotler and Agent Denzel, great thought provoking conversation with the occasional comic stress relief. Looking forward to the next book on the series.
These stories of archeological intrigue are very thought provoking while thrilling to keep up with. This particular story shows an insight to sound and the possible technological theory of use for those that cannot hear.
Kevin has continued to make an entertaining figure of Dan Kotler and his sidekick Denzel. They keep you entertained, and maybe stretch your knowledge, or at least your imagination! Great job Kevin
Dan Kotler heroes a subtle thriller, rooted in some interesting history and somewhat bumbling execution. Kotler is not Bond, Bourne, Ben Hope, or even Cotton Malone, but rather an awkward Indiana Jones with a Sherlock Holmes twist. I think I'll read the next one.
These books combine science, history, intrigue and mystery in an engrossing well developed story. Characters are likable or villainous and it’s easy to root for the good guys. Although the villain isn’t obvious.
This book was centred around, not around an ancient artefact but around an idea from the past. There was of course the expected actions and fast pace but the different nucleus to the story did given it a different flavour.
