How many books will be in the Bregdan Chronicles? No one knows yet… Ginny intends to write these character's stories, one year at a time, for as long as she is able to write. She is passionate about bringing history to life through historical fiction. Since she is amazingly healthy, that could be for a very long time! She doesn’t like stories to end any more than you do. This one won't end for a very long time! Happy, sad & impatient (waiting for the next book)! History you've never been taught brought forward. I've learned a lot of history from all of Ginny's books (thank you so much for sharing). It's hard to believe these people are fictional. The story continues on in each book, a page turner you'll be reluctant to put down until you've finished reading the entire book. Less than 24 hrs since its' release and I've finished the book. Time to start rereading the entire set again. If you haven't read any of these books you've missed out big time. My suggestion would be just try the first book. If you're not hooked by the first chapter try one more. These books have grabbed my heart & soul from the beginning page right until the last word.
I have now just finished this series until the next book comes out in 2018. I held off on reviewing until I was done because I just felt in my heart it wasn't time. Now it is so here goes.....
The Bregdan Chronicles have opened up my mind and heart and soul like no other book or series has done before. The things I have learned that have happened in our past have astonished me, sickened me, embarrassed me, and saddened me. But there were also things that gave me hope, joy, and shown me that grace is still shown through.
The things you will learn that are done to people in this series is actually part of our history.. Americans killing Americans in the civil war, the kkk terrorizing blacks and whites, husband's putting perfectly sane wives in insane asylums just because they could are to name but a few things that went on in our dark past.
What Ginny Dye has done with her writing is nothing less than extraordinary and also eye opening. She has a way of making you feel as if you are a part of the story. This series has changed me in a way I've never experienced before with any other books. It made me look inside my own heart and examine it about a few things. My hope is that it does the same for someone else as well as I recommend this series wholeheartedly.
My thanks goes out to Ms. Ginny Dye for a wonderful journey you have given me. You have won over a new fan for as long as you write. Thanks for sharing your talent and heart and soul~A Faithful Reader
Another really great book in the series. As well as enjoying the story I learn something from every book. This one alludes to the banks making risky decisions causing a problem for the economy--the more things change....
This series is a saga of America's original sins, before, during, and after the Civil War. The main characters live on a plantation, and in the beginning they own lots of slaves. But the main character, Carrie Cromwell, thinks slavery is wrong, and before the Civil War, she pressures her family to free all the slaves. And pay them for their labor, instead. After the Civil War, their progressive actions continue, which of course enrages all the not so enlightened white plantation owners around. Anyway, there are many volumes, lots of characters and events, nice and not so nice. Some of it seems anachronistic. And more social and political movements than one person can engage with in so few years. Carrie loves and loses, practices medicine before medical school, including surgery and homeopathy. She travels all over the country as it existed in the 1860s, by train and by covered wagon. But even if not likely, it is fun to follow along. Rather a swashbuckling saga, but keeps me entertained. And I learned a lot.
A few weeks ago I found that I was three books behind in the Bregdan Chrinicles so I ordered books 9,10 and 11. So much was happening to Carrie and her family and friends in these years of reconstruction after the civil war. Carrie is determined to continue her studies to be a doctor, Rose and Moses want to take their family to a college where xslaves are welcome. Thomas and Abby are determined to help with the reconstruction with business's that can employ both xslaves and southern white men who need good paying jobs. Things would go so much better without the rise of a new organization called the KKK. These are very long books but true page turners. I'm looking forward to Jan.2018 when book 12 is to be released and find out what happens next.
Ginny Dye'e 11th book is one of the best, I believe. She is back from the Indian Reservation and back on the Plantation where she decides what is next for her and her life. The book still maintains her Pollyannaish tone but the history that she talks about is wonderful. I think that the historical perspectives of her book are probably the best part as I had no idea that these types of issues were of such a large magnitude. The slavery issues continue and the Ku Klux Klan seems to be unstoppable. The women's rights issues are huge and Dye now addresses one that is horrendous, having your wife admitted to a mental institution; just because you want to get rid of her. Love her books and cannot wait for #12 coming out in the fall.
Love this series. It’s wonderful to know there are many books to come to continue the story when I finish one. A member of the family is added. Carrie’s future is about to change. Without telling any details to spoil the story, I learn once again something awful keeps happening to some women who marry someone wealthy. Women still fighting for the right to vote, but it is much more than that. Women had NO rights at all, only men but especially married men had total say over their life. Can you imagine you can’t do anything that you want to do unless your husband approves? Husbands can and were abusive to their wives because the wife was their property! Another eye opening story of history I had no idea that it had happened. Keep reading.
Ginny Dye is an exceptional author. The research that goes into each book makes for a long excreting wait. She packs so much history and information into each book that we cannot wait for er next instalment. She also blends a great story filled with family, love, sorrow, triumph, and history. This book taught me about women's lack of freedom, not just concerning the vote but their lack of human rights also. What asylums were like, how husbands could be controlling even. A must read series I would recommend to all. Start from the beginning. Be sure to keep a hanky with you!
Ginny did it again but that is really no surprise. This is number 11 in this series and I have enjoyed reading each and every one. Ginny does her research on every aspect and shares that information in such a way that you don’t realize how much you are learning about this time in history. With every book in this series, I feel like I am reading a letter from a good friend and catching up with them about every thing that has happened since the last time I heard from them. Toward the end of each book (“letter”), I find myself smiling because it was so good hearing from them and then I find myself anxiously awaiting their next “letter”. Can you remember back that far? Far enough to remember how you used to feel after reading a letter from a dear friend or family member? Though I love technology, I do find myself missing some of the old time traditions. Thank you, Ginny! I hope you never tire of sending us these “letters” from home! I can’t wait for #12!
I have fallen in love with Ginny Dye's Bregdan Chronicles! She has taken a very important part of American history and made it so very real. I have learned so much from reading this series. I love the characters, their strength and their love for each other and for life. I am sad when I finish a book. It is like loosing Family members. Then when the next one comes out I am so excited! Then I am torn between rushing through it and taking it slowly to make it last. Thank you Ginny Dye for writing this series. Please hurry on that next release.😊
This is the 11th book of the Brendan Chronicles and Ginny Dye continues to captivate me! This book has a focus on insane asylums and how women are treated. Carrie’s life changes drastically. Moses and Rose make a life altering decision. I have to wonder the end of the book foreshadowing something big? This series starts at pre Civil War. It looks at all aspects of what started the war. Some parts are not pretty. Some are not what the reader wants to happen. It goes through post Civil War and how America didn’t just jump right back to normalcy. Much of what happens in these books lead me to look at other books on that subject. This author leaves me in awe and is by far my favorite author!
About 90 percent of this book is highly predictable; easy reading but predictable. There's a small surprise with Thomas and Abby but after that initial read, back to predictable. Carrie and Rose and Moses realize their dream and plantation life continues without fanfare. Not the best of the series but it is necessary to read to keep up in the series. I look forward to the next installment and hope the lives of these folks move into more challenging and less predictable routes. The series needs a good, stiff kick !!
I again really enjoyed this 11th book in the Brendan Chronicals.I was glad when it came out because I missed the characters from the first 10 books in this series. It is a fast read & I think it would make an excellent mini series on tv! Keep up the good work Ginny! I will be anxiously awaiting the next book in this series in the Fall of next year. I would recommend this book to anyone. Ginny does a great job in researching the history of the 1800's to incorporate in her stories.
Another great book! I have not been disappointed since I started reading this series. I actually got my 84 year old mom into these books as well. She started reading them just about 4 months ago and has caught up to me reading number 11. We both will be reading #12 and waiting patiently for #14. Thank you Ginny Dye for a wonderful story with great history lessons!
By any chance did other readers find some errors in #11? There were three. As a graphic designer/teacher I noticed. Just curious if anybody else did.
Ever since the first book of this series. Sure, I suppose you could be happy reading just one, but if I had gone that route I would have passed up many hours of well woven joy. In this book, Carrie continues in feeling loss, and misses times when friends and family were together on th plantation ...it becomes a living wish. Violence in Richmond strikes far to close to the heart of this fami!y. Will Carrie let romantic love to claim her? What big changes are in store for our adventuresome heroine?
When I finish one book in the series, I think the next one could not possibly be better. Wrong! Once I begin one book, I can't put it down until completed. I learn more about the era with each book and I go as far as to fact check. The amount of research done to write these books is amazing. It is hard to wait until the next book is published. Ginny Dye is a fantastic writer. She is an amazing author and I can't wait until the next book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
It was so much fun when I could finish one book, order the next ebook, and go right on with the story. Now I have to wait for the next book! Each book the author introduces a thought-provoking topic I didn't see coming. This book introduced the plight of women "sentenced" to insane asylums at their husbands' whim. The younger family members are delightful; I look forward to seeing history with them in the future books ;-)
I have followed this series for the past two years and loved each book, well researched and well written they give us a glimpse into the divisions that nearly destroyed our country and the impact it had on so many lifes for good and for bad. You can't help falling in love with each of the main characters and feel such overwhelming compassion for their life changing struggles through events beyond their control, winter is coming in 2018!
I read slowly because I didn't want it to end. I have read this series straight through. This will be the first time that I will have to wait until the next book comes out. I know I will probably go through withdraws. That's how enthralled and addicted to a story that has come to life from its pages. The characters, the locations, their lives have become a part of my daily life! Ginny Dye you are an amazing writer and I Love this series!
I loved reading this story. I think it was better than Gone With The Wind, which was the first long novel I read as a teenager. I enjoyed reading the different ideas regarding how most of the white people in the south thought of the black slaves and how most of the slaves thought of their white owners. All the reasons were very enlightening. I series was marvelous.
This is a wonderful series to read to learn about United States history especially the Civil War and into Reconstruction. The series has lead me to research more about this era and beyond! It’s hard to imagine in this day and age the atrocities that happened to different races of people, but the atrocities occurred! The book has changed my thinking towards people even today; do NOT judge especially! I’m hoping this series does not end anytime soon!
Great read. Love all the characters. Many new characters too! The series is awesome and sometimes I feel that what happened back in 1869 is also happening today! There was a book published back in 1869 about KKK and Congress, etc. by someone named anonymous! You can't make this stuff up. Same shit different era. . .history is just so interesting. Women fighting for rights, they had NONE back then and we are fighting for ERA now.
I couldn’t put this book down. I sat on the edge of my seat to discover the outcomes of the path the characters traversed. Well written and challenges the reader to open their eyes and hearts to the root of the problem. If only all people could see others as the Cromwell family. Hatred never brings about good and further separates the human race. A great reminder if we don’t learn from our past, history will repeat itself.
I liked the storyline of Alice and the insane asylum. This aspect of history was new for me to learn about. I am glad that Abby and Thomas are staying on the plantation and taking it easy and enjoying life. Not sure about Anthony being OK with the adoption of Frances and Carrie making all the decisions in their relationship. It seems like a one-sided relationship. I will read the next book in the series.
This entire series has been nothing short of amazing. I don't say that word lightly. Ginny Dye has created a series with characters who you come to feel like you know in real life. I must say please read the series from book 1. Although all would be enjoyable alone, together they become amazing. So once again I anxiously waiting for the next book.
I have enjoyed this series very much. Particularly the books dealing with Reconstruction since I know little about that time period. I read the kindle version and was surprised by the typos since I didn't experience any of those types of issues with the other books. Looking forward to the next installment!
We can not change history; but, we can learn from it, and we can improve the future based on better understanding! Read LOOKING TO THE FUTURE!!! Then ask yourself what you can do to ensure that we move forward, not backward! Ginny Dye puts much effort into researching history, then writing her findings into understandable stories that we can all relate to. It's phenomenal how closely parellel we can relate current events to some of those recorded in the late 1860's!
As all the Bregdan Chronicles books, this left me craving more!!! I can't wait for the next one already!! I feel as much a part of Carrie, Rose, and Moses's family as the rest because of Ginny Dye's amazing writing! And the history lessons I learn as I read her books is a perk all on its own!
NoW impatiently waiting for book 12. I have fallen in love with the characters and once I start one of her books I find it nearly impossible to put down. The characters have become "my family" plus I am learning our country's history through the eyes of the characters. Bring on the next book real soon, please!
Historical information personal happiness struggles and determination for a better person and better world.individuality and working together.
Historical . Personal. And working toward a better person and world internal struggles and accomplishments. Good read and a long wait to see carries life evolve
I just finished another very good book in The Bregdan Chronicles. They grab you and pull you into the amazing life and love of a family ever expanding during the American Civil War and after. Each book covers the real history happening during that time period so you see the full picture of what is happening in the country at that particular time. Loved it!
