About the author

Lee Bennett Hopkins was inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame in 2017. He holds a Guinness Book of Records citation for compiling the most anthologies for children. He has also received the Christopher Award, the Regina Medal, and the National Council of Teachers of English Excellence in Poetry for Children Award. He lives in Florida.

Pauses is 90% fascinating and 10% ho-hum. At first I was disappointed that the autobigraphies were basically sketches on a few pages. But as I read the book further, the small "slice of life" format grew on me and I appreciated the tid-bits I gleaned about each author/illustrator/poet.
I learned some incredible facts. Did you know the manuscript for Curious George was smuggled out of Paris just days before the Nazi take-over? You will after you read this book. I also discovered many authors/illustrators that I want to find out more about and read more of their works.
All in all, "Pauses" is a very worthwhile and quick read.
