When Josephine Lancaster first caught a glimpse of the handsome, muscle bound Edward Jake Hunter she knew she would be unable to resist his charms.
A steamy night of passion between the two was inevitable and it was the best night of her life.
However, Edward was a man with many secrets.
Not only was Edward a werewolf but he was a werewolf on HEAT. And this meant one thing and one thing only.
Josephine would soon be carrying the werewolf's baby...
The RED Wolf is the latest book in the “Werewolves On Heat” series! If you love a HOT Werewolf romance then this is perfect for you, download now and enjoy!
Not great, in fact, I'd go so far as to say flat out bad. First, it's too similar to book one—shitty, over dominating parents, a woman trying to get away and running to the male lead, who happens to be a werewolf, etc. The werewolf aspect was extraneous to the plot too. Jake could have just been an ex-SEAL and the book could be 100% the same.
Second, there are a ton of inconsistencies. Things like telling Jake about the baby the night before an ultrasound and then him speaking to his mother 'the week before' about the pregnancy, or a man demeaning her for being pregnant and then her inner narrative saying she can't let him know she's pregnant, etc, etc.
The plot is just paper thin, not well explained or developed, and repetitive at that. And there is a SUPER convenient event that allows the hero to rescue the heroine that made me roll my eyes so hard I almost saw my brain. All-in-all, I simply didn't enjoy it. The narrator did a fine job, but I didn't much care for her style here.
Lastly, the blurb specifically says, "Not only was Edward a werewolf but he was a werewolf on HEAT. And this meant one thing and one thing only." But this is never addressed or explained. He doesn't go into heat, nor is his passion so hot as to be called heated. This sentence in the blurb that supposedly sets the tone for the book is literally unrelated to the book. Maybe it's meant to be hyperbole. But I feel like a blurb isn't the place for ambiguousness in such things.
I have read both books in the series and must say this was even better than the last~ It was a great story, entertaining, and suspenseful. Ellie's shifter stories are different than a lot of others I have read. I feel that she doesn't just focus on the shifter story line but focuses on the main overarching story. The shifter aspect is not the main story. I like it!
Narration of the series is top-notch! Meghan does a great job of bringing the story to life. Thanks!
These are all in the same world, however I have yet to find any other connections. As of now, reading them as standalones should be OK.
Length: 4 hrs and 47 mins
Content Warning: There is sex, so if that bothers you then you should avoid.

I was not able to find any direct character, location, or group connections between books one and two. If anyone has other info on that, please let me know. Both have werewolves as well as the heroine having majorly F*d up family situations. Josephine's family life is not as heart breaking as Ava's, but just as suspensful.
Josephine ❤ Edward
Josephine Lancaster had a one night stand at her BFF's wedding that left behind a gift of its own. Before she could process that fact, her father let let drop his plans to be marry her to his much older business partner for better financal gain. Horrified, Josie ran and ended up getting a job with the last person she could of imagined, the father of her baby. Despite her bravey in avoiding a sham of a marriage, she turns into a big chicken when it comes to telling her baby-daddy the truth.
Edward Jake Hunter has secrets and trust issues of his own. After being used and manipulated for his gifts in the past, he is suspicious of most. Jake owns a construction business and is in desperate need for a new assistant, and is shocked to find the beautful wedding fling as a potental hire. He wants her as much as before, but has reservations. Being the most qualified, he has no choice but to hire her. He knows she is hiding something, but is hoping its not as sinister as past experiences.
One might think they know how this is going to play out, but you would be wrong. This is so much better. There are several twist you won't see coming. The secrets flow out at the speed of molasis, which can be a bit frustrating. It pays off if you can hold on and you will be left on the edge of your seat in the interum. There is heat and heart, and you won't be dissapointed. I was hoping for a side character to be the focus of the third book, but sadly not. Maybe one will show up in a future book or spin-off series. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Normal speed was fine, but I found slightly slower sounded best. I listened at 0.95 speed. Don't be afraid to experiment.
Josephine Lancaster grew up more than sheltered, her controlling, widowed father raised her isolated. She’d been online schooled, had one friend she met, was constantly monitored by his henchmen and never, ever dated. Josie’s friend’s wedding coincided when her father had no one to watch over her, Josie couldn’t wait to experience everything she’d read about and her friend had told her.
Wolf Edward Jake Hunter ran into a long lost friend and got invited to his where Josie caught his eye and was enchanted. Josie gave Jake her virginity but not her name and they went back to their lives. Weeks later, Josie ran from her father’s home and by chance answers Jake’s job vacancy. Neither is certain how or what to say about their previous meeting.
But Josie’s father is involved in exploiting shifters and had been looking for Jake for five years. Jake had escaped from Josie’s father after realizing how far her father would go to control him. A henchman finally discovers Josie and accidently finds Jake as well. Jake begins to wonder if Josie had set him up for her father.
Hmmm… there are definitely some head-scratching moments in this outing (i.e. connecting to the series name or to the previous reads). While there’s a fairly sturdy backbone, the read is paranormal light, doesn’t tightly wrap a few threads and doesn’t read smoothly. Overall, to this reader’s taste, it didn’t live up to its potential. Rating: 3stars
I’ll be honest, paranormal shifters are not generally my thing but I surprised myself with The Red Wolf and enjoyed it… perhaps it’s because it’s on audiobook. Although, give me a good secret baby story any day of the week and I’ll devour it!! I didn’t read or listen to book 1 but nothing seemed weird or off for me. This seemed like a complete standalone.
I really liked Josephine even if she bugged me a smidge, she was still likable. She was a relatable character that makes mistakes and has flaws like we all do. Edward was a bit closed off and aloft. He’s been used in the past and he’s a bit skeptical of people. There was an amazing about of heat in this book… it was animalistic! I was a bit on the iffy side listening to this story. I don’t normally go outside of my comfort zone but with audiobooks I’m trying to be a bit more adventurous. I’ve never heard of this author, Ellie Valentina, however she writes extremely well and her characters are deep and evolved. Josephine might have gotten on my nerves a bit but not so much that I was done.
The narrator, Meghan Kelly, did a fantastic job with the different characters. I felt like she was able to bring something more to this book… to make it feel more dimensional. I’m not sure I would have read this book but I really enjoyed listening to it!
With all the books I’ve been reading. Lately, I had to take a minute and go back to my first love, Paranormal Romance. I listened to the audio version of this story, which isn’t listed as an edition, but I felt I should give the narrator the credit she deserves.
The Red Wolf is book 2 in a series but reads excellently as a standalone. There are a few references to past actions, which I’m thinking are from book 1, but it didn’t take away from the flow of this story.
This book starts with a young lady leaving California to move to New York in an attempt to get away from her overly controlling father. She quickly gains employment and allies in her new life, which proves a necessity when her father sends one of his “employees” to kidnap her. Her friends and how well they get to know her help her escape her father’s attempt to get her back home, and under his commands. After all, she is of use to him; he plans to marry her off to repay his debts.
The Red Wolf is well written and intrigued me from the beginning. I like the characters and their quirky personalities. I would recommend this as a good beach read or any other quick read. Overall, I give it four stars; I liked it.
The story line is interesting, there's plenty going on, if you're happy just sitting back and accepting what you're told, then it's great.
I struggled a bit when Jake shifted while driving, I mean seriously? Why did he not crash? This is not the type of shift I'm familiar with but it's not really explained. This wasn't the only part I had trouble buying into. Overall I enjoyed the book but a little more realism would be nice (the irony of saying this about a paranormal romance is not lost on me).
The narration was excellent, great character voices and I thought the delivery conveyed emotions really well.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher in exchange for an honest review.
She has escaped her controlling father but accidentally led him to a man he's been seeking for years. He's been hiding in plain sight but had hoped he was no longer in the crosshairs of a madman who wants to use his special werewolf skills punitively. They are both so likeable you will be rooting for the happy ending as you hurry through the (virtual) pages of this paranormal thriller. Or, listen (as I did) to the audio as Meghan Kelly's narration brings an added dimension to the story. Author Ellie Valentina has brought some new and interesting parameters to her interpretation of shifters.
Narrator.: MEGHAN KELLY Betrayal of the story. 🥇 GOLD why: I just started listening to books by MEGHAN KELLY In the last year and she is one of the best out there. She can do so many different voices so well.
I was all in with this basic and pretty formulaic shifter romance story until the heroine gives birth in a tunnel and than literally moments later cleans up and heads back to bait her father into coming clean about his misdeeds. To make it look like she's still pregnant, she stuffs a sweater under her shirt. Ummmm yeah, any woman or anyone who has seen a pregnant woman knows you don't just give birth and pop back up. Also stuffing a sweater under your shirt doesn't magically look the same. Over it!
