The only other person to have reviewed this short story respectively ascribed the titular roles of the Echo and the Nemesis to Sue & Ramona, but I believe that it may have been the other way around.

Ramona is a haunting, disfigured echo of her twin, Martha—which, like, I'm still confused by whether or not there was an actual twin—and Sue plays a foil, or nemesis, to Ramona's Echo. That's not to say that I felt like Ramona was the true heroine of this story—Ramona's a shitstain of a human being—but this is just how I interpreted it.

I dunno. Maybe the roles are interchangeable since, yeah, Sue really lacked a voice in this short story.

This story was recommended to me by my phone, if you can believe that. I had written a note to myself on my phone three years ago to read this short story along with Marianne Moore's poem "Marriage," and I really don't remember why.

The Echo and the Nemesis was a lovely piece of writing, but it's also really infuriating. I felt horrible for poor Sue, and I hope she finds peace with another friend.

I also don't feel like I was in the right frame of mind to read this story, nor to write this review. Whatever. I'm going to read the other review to pilfer some wisdom that I more than likely missed.
