The chances of a fairytale ending in a post-apocalyptic wasteland are slim to none. But so are the chances of surviving hordes of zombies while traveling across the country. So, for Jack Jupiter, the chances mean nothing. He hasn't stopped before and he doesn't plan on stopping now, either.

With Project Reset canceled, Jack and the group head to San Francisco, where Darlene hopes to find her mother and sister...dead or alive; because all she wants is closure. While on their journey, they hear of a settlement located in Golden Gate Park called Haven. Weary of what Haven may actually be, the gang proceeds with caution.

But rarely does that work for Jack Jupiter, and a run-in with a group of religious zealots known as the Red Robes slows them down, creating another enemy to worry about.

Though it's not all bad. New friendships are forged along the way, and Jack's hope never wavers, because without hope in this world, you're liable to hit a dead end.

Will Jack, Darlene, and the rest of the group get their fairytale ending? Or will their luck finally run out?

Maxwell Knows Jack!

I know I probably say this every time, but this book was my favorite of the series, so far. Maxwell KNOWS jack about zombie lit! His stories are never sedimentary, boring or stale. He keeps things fresh, exciting, ghoulish and gory!

*I received a complimentary ARC of this story in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.

This was the fifth(and final for me) book in the series, and I went in expecting basically what I’d gotten before. Cheesy, zombie fun, and a lot of fun slinging end of world stuff. There was that for sure, but there was also a rather unpleasant turn.

We meet the mom of Jacks fiance, and one paragraph tells us how great her figure is for her age. How he can see what Darlene might look like in her seventies, and that it was okay if she got fat instead bc he’d still love her. What a hero, right?

Then we’re treated to a description of a “fat” seventies woman’s breasts by Jack. None of this would be an issue if it were in line with the way the character acted in the first four books, but this was way out in left field. I felt like I went from Maxwell land to Laymon land.

I’ll think long and hard about my next choice with this particular series and maybe author. I’m good with whatever for a character so long as it’s consistent, or part of their character arc growth. This just wasn’t. Two very strained stars.

On a totally different note, the narrator is stellar through all five books. Consistent and talented. The recording quality of this volume is slightly less than the first four, bc there are random noises throughout. It’s not enough to ruin anything, but I had to remove my headphones a couple of times to see if they were noises within my home.

Dead end, it has a few connotations. Does it mean some, or all of our protagonists die? Does it simply mean that the story reaches a dead end? You'll have to read the book to find out.
As per the blurb there is a lot going on in this book and it kept me on my toes as I read. I hoped for that all elusive fairy tale ending for Jack and his family but the apocalypse always has one more crazy to throw a spanner in the works.
Fab book, fab series.

Nice! Way to wrap it up.

Herb Jupiter, nice ring. I am glad the religious zealots got their final sacrifice, if only we could do this world wide! We already have techno zombies walking among us, heads down, faces in their phones; But it is truly hilarious when they walk into plate glass, there's that. This was a great series, fast paced, barely any downtime, kept the storyline flowing. I do hope you do either a spin off, or continuation of this series. Either way, it was a great read, thank you.

Good series

Was not too crazy about the first book but, hey, exposition is always a bit tedious. The storyline was built very well and I truly looked forward to how our reluctant and somewhat unusual hero seemed to run from one catastrophe to the next. Almost did not read the second book but glad I did. A good series if you are in to the zombie genre. A note to the author; sure would have liked to have somehow seen more of Mother.

I have enjoyed this series. The stories have been enteraining. I struggled giving this a 4. Book 6 and 7 seemed to have more grammatical errors than the previous books or I was more sensitive to them over the last 2 books. Example multiple instances of I's in stead of my or me in such wording as 'Abby and I's reunion'. There instead of their. A good proof reader is needed.
I almost gave book 7 a 3 but the story was good.

Dead End
Starts were book 4 left us. This is a great book if you are into the zombie genre.
I have really enjoyed this series and I loved the way the story just flowed beautifully with each book. The characters really grow throughout the books I liked most of the characters. Once you start you can’t put them down you need to know what happens to these characters. Loved this author writing how it draws you in slowly and does not let you go until the turn of the last page.

Great zompoc series!

This is for the entire series: if you enjoy zompoc, you will love this series. Follow along on the rollercoaster journey of terror, love, loss, and trying to find some semblance of peace for Jack, Darlene, Abby, and Norm in a world filled with zombies and madmen. Warning: you will lose sleep from not being able to tear yourself away from their terrifying journey.

Human Haven By the Bay

Jack Jupiter gets his girl home, just in time for a new zombie adventure with the added bonus of religious zealots. The fun and danger are at every turn. When all seems lost one of Jack's family come to the rescue. This time Jack's family grows instead of shrinking. He even finds a dog. This time it there is a home for them. Also a chance for the future. I would recommend this book.

Great book

I have read quite a few zombie stories, and by so far the 5 books you have written are the best. The only I hate is you fall in love with the characters in a book and when it ends its like a death in a family. But I loved the way you wrote excellent work. I will defiantly look for more books by you.

Read And series

This is really a terrific series. A little reminiscent of Stephen King stories, but just enough to make it even better. I would highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys well written with believable great characters who has (or has not) the willpower to put it down and get stuff done. I didn't. :) looking forward to reading more from this author.

“Dead End” is a dead end. The inept ‘Jack’ should have been fragged by his own people in Book #1 if for no other reason than his continued use of the non-word “I’s”. The author should pay us to read this drivel.

Good read

Very good read. Only bad thing I can say is that the writer needs to learn the proper usage of there, their, they're. Jump in, I think you'll enjoy the swim.

Excellent finale

Sorry to finish this saga but man was it a good time reading these stories. The horror, the humor, the humanity's made this collection a worthy read.

Thank you!
