This book took me a few days to get through - with so much going on in our home life, I just didn't have the time I wanted to sit down and read it, and let me tell you, it killed me every second as I waited to find the time to dive back in. Such an addicting little book. Such a beautifully written story. I was sucked in from the first page, just as the rest of this series. This author has a writing style that you rarely see anymore. I must say, I adore how the vampires and dhampir keep their original horror, instead of the romantic frilly lovey-dovey stuff that they're made into today. We get to see what the real creatures are like and that is so refreshing. The romance in this story was well written, the emotional side of it was well orchestrated. The vicious and merciless characters were just simply amazing. Though Talcott is quite calculating, he was absolutely my favorite. The things he thought, though dark, had me laughing several times. But my heart is torn between Talcott and Samuel. Both men have characteristics that make you cling to them. As for the heroine, she was displayed as weak, and well...because she is - she's only human. BUT not once did I feel it was annoying, or that she couldn't take care of herself. I was impressed here - usually the 'humans' in paranormal stories can get a tad on the 'poor me, save me' side. I never got that here. It's such an intriguing world this author has created. I've never read something like this before and it made me thirsty for more! Excellent read. Highly recommended.
Challenging myself yet again to read outside my preferred horror/science fiction genre. I decided to read something from the steampunk shelf. Nefarious by Lucille Moncrief is steampunk, with vampires and light erotica. I've been intrigued with the steampunk genre for a while now. When I learned about the Nefarious series, I jumped at the opportunity to dip a toe in. Lucille Moncrief's writing style seduces the reader with every syllable. She sets the perfect tone for what I envisioned steampunk to be. There is an air to Moncrief's writing that whispers cobblestone streets, corsets and desire. I found Nefarious to be other worldly for this science fiction nerd. It was something so completely utterly different from my norm, but in a good way like a glass of quality whiskey. Steampunk is not for me. However, I would greatly recommend Lucille Moncrief to anyone that enjoys that genre.
I enjoyed this one. This book continues Volume I. Volume II is a standalone which I might go back and read since I enjoyed Volumes I and III. We continue Elyse and Talcott's story, but now Samuel is a part of the equation. Samuel is trying to woo Elyse away from Talcott, but Talcott has some things up his sleeve as well. Elyse is torn between the two men. This one does end with a cliffhanger so i will have to see what happens in the next volume.
Another amazing story written by author Lucille Moncrief! I absolutely love how she has once again bought life to all her main characters making her story all the more interesting! It will leave you craving more once you get done for sure.
From the beginning of this series I fell in love with the poetic beauty of Lucille Moncrief's prose. In this continuation of the saga, Elyse is the pawn between two supernaturals. Can she survive their battle?
