What would you do if you overheard three of your coworkers planning a murder?
Frank Joseph has a quiet life, a daughter he loves, and a “typical boring desk job” in the purchasing department of Thomas-Smithfield Electronics.
One day he overhears three of his coworkers plotting the “elimination” of another coworker.
Frank is both shaken, and uncertain of exactly what he has overheard. But he is also incapable of standing by and doing nothing, while an innocent person’s life is in imminent danger.
Frank attempts to intervene. But he soon discovers that he has the situation all wrong, and now he is the next target of a complicated and deadly conspiracy.
The Eavesdropper is a first person narrative of a man's account of events leading to but mostly after he made the decision to eavesdrop on a conversation between fellow employees at work. His actions and subsequent involvement make up the story. I found the story to be easily paced, building up to an ending. And although some revelations were predictable, the story did hold my attention with a bit of suspense. A good buildup to a great ending! I also suggest to the author about being attentive to repetitive word usage, as in "moreover". In my opinion, this really stood out. I do appreciate the time and effort that is put into creating a story and found this story to be very well written. The premise of the story ingenious. We all have intentionally or unintentionally overheard something that we were never meant to hear and what we do with that knowledge is our own story to write.
Carried me through it fairly smoothly. Some part of the plot were only semi-believable at best. But hey, this is fictional based on a few facts, so that is what authors do! Wish the main character had a bit more personality, seemed like a rather drab dweeb-type with no sex appeal. And the other main characters were very one dimensional. Did not like the wrap-up used for the ending, wish main character at least got a promotion and more corporate gratitude than he did. 3 Stars for the above, and 1 Star for offering this to read for free, Generosity is always a good thing.
I really enjoyed this book and would love to see it made into a movie. There were some grammar errors that were distracting from time to time, but the story still kept me interested and entertained. Narrated by the main character, there is a good balance between suspense, introspection, personal relationships, and a dose of humor. It was clean with very few curse words and no explicit sex. Don't skip the Afterword!
I loved this book so much! Having worked in a 'cubicle work environment', the office descriptions and co-worker personalities were spot on and I could definitely relate. The story moved at an exceptional rate, never leaving anything out, and was extremely well written. I feel like I personally knew the main character! One of the best books I've read in a long time. Thank you!
This book shot out of the starting gate and never slowed down. I had no choice but to continue reading; I had to know what would happen and I wasn't disappointed.
