The latest issue of the brilliant Manga adaptation of the fantatically followed TV show starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit)
Another great read to escape into with a riveting plot. The clock is literally ticking for Sherlock to find a bomber who is mysteriously linked to his arch nemesis. The illustrations of Moriarty could have been a bit better. And it’s not to say they aren’t good, but just not quite hitting the mark. I wanted to see more of his menace. Other than that, I am enjoying these books.
These Sherlock mangas are a guilty pleasure of mine. I'm not a manga fan, but these aren't true manga with the large eyes, etc. They're very well done and successfully communicate the feel of the BBC series. I find them a fun diversion.
This was literally the script to one of my favorite episodes, so of course it was amazing. But I was really blown away by the artwork. All the characters are rendered beautifully.
I love this episode sm,, from the chaos of all the different 'games' to the moriarty/sherlock showdown - literally my no. 1 fave episode in the entire series. The manga did a pretty cool job with the mood and formatting. i love me pussypants pookiebobs scrunkledinks blorbo moriarty, i love his introduction SO much!! I hope they make a manga version of the reichenbach fall too <33
I’m usually a bit sceptical of graphic novel adaptations of movies or tv series but having borrowed “A Study In Pink” at the library on a whim, I surprised myself by really enjoying it and immediately wanting to borrow more of them.
“The Great Game” was also good fun. Jay’s illustrative style is appealing and perfectly captures the lovingly bizarre shapes that Benedict Cumberbatch’s face makes. My only criticism might be that it was hard to tell John Watson and D.I Lestrade apart at times. They’re drawn very similarly!
The writing by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss was pulled straight from the show, and was thus excellent (speaking as a Doctor Who/Sherlock fan of course!)
This edition as well as #3, #4 and #6 are all backwards for a manga, in other words it reads forwards, unlike most of the other books in the Sherlock manga available from amazon.
Quite a wild ride. Sherlock moves from one case to another, coerced into solving each crime before another victim is killed. Sherlock here tries to be apathetic, completely neutral, but when a victim is killed not of his fault, you can feel the failure internalized on his masked face, as well the compensation to neutralize his emotions afterwards.
I do wish they took more care to develop the other characters more.
