Alison Stone writes sweet romance, cozy mysteries, and inspirational romantic suspense, some of which contain bonnets and buggies.
Alison often refers to herself as the "accidental Amish author." She decided to try her hand at the genre after an editor put a call out for more Amish romantic suspense. Intrigued—and who doesn't love the movie Witness with Harrison Ford?—Alison dug into research, including visits to the Amish communities in Western New York where she lives. This sparked numerous story ideas, the first leading to her debut novel with Harlequin Love Inspired Suspense. Four subsequent Love Inspired Suspense titles went on to earn RT magazine's TOP PICK! designation, their highest ranking.
When Alison’s not plotting ways to bring mayhem to Amish communities, she’s writing inspirational romantic suspense with a more modern setting, sweet romances, and cozy mysteries, including her new Murphy's Dance Academy series. In order to meet her deadlines, she has to block the internet and hide her smartphone.
Married and the mother of four (almost) grown kids, Alison lives in the suburbs of Buffalo where the summers are gorgeous and the winters are perfect for curling up with a book—or writing one.
This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the 7th book in the Apple Creek series. I have not read any of the other books in this series, but I do feel this book can be read as a standalone book. This book has two mysteries going on, and I love both of them. One of the mysteries in this book was a crime that just happened, and one of the mysteries is a cold case. I enjoyed both of the mysteries, but I loved the cold case one more than the other one. I also did not guess all the twists. I found the romance to be cute and sweet, and I like it. The characters were developed, and I really enjoyed getting to know these characters.
4 stelle e mezza Mi è piaciuto molto come gli altri libri, ma non tanto da arrivare al massimo dei voti, anche se non riesco a identificare un motivo preciso...
Plain Jeopardy is a remarkable story filled with not one but two mysteries to solve written by Alison Stone. The author takes her readers back to the bed and breakfast in Quail Hollow and the story of another Miller sister. Grace Miller is recuperating from surgery and also hose sitting the B&B for her sister. While at the B&B she receives directions from her boss to cover a story of a tragic accident involving underage teenagers. An English young man accused of driving under the influence and injuring a young Amish girl dies at the scene but things don't add up. While investigating this accident mysterious things start happening but are they related to this accident or the murder of Grace's Amish mom that has been left unsolved for thirty years? There is never a full moment in this story and when all is revealed it will leaving the reader shocked.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others. All opinions are my own.
Congratulations to Also Stone for continuing her previous story with this amazing story. I am already searching for more of her books.
Plain Jeopardy was a surprising read! I didn't think I would love the story as much as I did, but it was everything a good mystery should be...great characters, an interesting mystery, and some twists. I was surprised by the ending.
I liked how the romance was sort of a second-chance story. It was so sweet! The Amish aspects were good and I'm someone who doesn't usually like Amish stories, but I really enjoyed this one.
All in all, Plain Jeopardy was a great read and I recommend it.

I found this simple paperback in a giveaway pile and read it at the beach for the summer. Not exactly gripping and I guessed who the murderer was one fourth of the way in. At least it’s fairly clean entertainment, no smut. I guess I didn’t feel very attached to Grace, the MC, to really care. Maybe this would be more in the YA category, Idk. Correction, I take that back. The characters are too old to be a part of a YA novel. Anyway, if you like the Amish Romances out there with some murder mystery entwined, this is the book for you.
Grace is recovering from surgery at her old hometown in her sisters place while shes out. To keep busy being the reporter that she is she does a bit of digging about some of her home town news and see about getting more information about her mothers murder which is still left unsolved. When a few mishaps occurs police officer Conner gates is there to help and protect her.
I thought that this was a pretty good book if your looking for a quick read, that's clean and has an intriguing mystery element to it then this book might be for you. I enjoyed seeing more that was revealed about the accident and although I feel like when it came to her mothers mystery part it I felt like it was a bit rushed. If you are looking for a mystery romance type of book there isn't much of romance in this book. You can sorta tell the two main characters got a thing but nothing much came of it although its clear they are going to be with eachother. Overall this was a pretty good book
This tale set in upstate New York during winter, looks at a journalist from an Amish town originally, sent back to follow a story. I really do not see this as being a story worth sending a journalist to follow for several expensive days, when many journalists today are told to submit up to seven stories a day. However we can accept it as artistic licence.
Digging into various facets of life, including the circumstances of her own mother's death, brings our intrepid reporter into collision with people who would rather everything stayed buried. With no photos of her mother - of course - the lady tries to give a voice to her own suffering, as well as to a teen girl lying in hospital after a road accident.
This is a strong mystery with slight romance aspects, and I found it suitable for anyone from teens to adults.
I downloaded an e-ARC from Net Galley and Fresh Fiction. This is an unbiased review.
What is supposed to be a period of healing after being seriously ill, turns into a terror visit, when it seems someone wants her dead.
The author has the main character spending time taking care of her sister’s bed and breakfast, and as a reporter she is also writing articles. We also have the local deputy who while protecting his citizens take an interest in Grace, as had his father who investigated her mother’s murder.
There are two stories going on here, and throughout you wonder which is the one that is threating her life, and with the twists and turns that happen here, you will keep on wondering.
Will we be able to solve both of these cases, or will one or both of these main charters survive with the answers.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Harlequin and was not required to give a positive review.
I love reading Alison Stone's books. I've read her books from Harlequin and from other publishers. She never disappoints me. In Plain Jeopardy we get to meet Grace Miller and Conner Gates. They both have ties to a past murder that has never been solved. But Conner is tied to a present mystery that has Grace checking things out for she is a reporter looking into it. I love the way Alison ties the Amish ways with the the English without overdoing it. There is a balance in it. With this story you are curious to see which way the story will go so. I found myself turning the pages to see who had done what. I was so curious that part of me wanted to cheat and look at the back pages but that would have taken the fun out of the story. What makes this a page turner is that 2 mystery's get solved. 1 is from the past and 1 is from the present. Its an awesome story and worth a read. J
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Plain Jeopardy. I always enjoy Alison's books; they are Amish, I love Amish stories but they also have suspense. This book is well written, action packed, and full of faith. You are really going to love this one.
Grace Miller is a reporter and travels all over the world. She has returned home to recover from surgery and complications. When an accident that includes some teens from town and an Amish girl happens; her boss wants her to investigate it and write a story. She receives a note asking her to meet at the gas station at eight o'clock. They have information about the accident. When she goes to the meet, a man tries to run her down. The police captain is the one who comes to her rescue. She refuses to stop investigating the accident when he asked her to stop; even though someone is trying to stop her
Police Captain Conner Gates is sent to the gas station on a 'hit and run'. It's obvious that it is a deliberate attack on the reporter. Conner is upset when he learns Grace is going to do a story on his cousin's death and the accident. He offers to help her investigate her mother's murder instead. It happened years ago when his father was the police captain. It was the one case his father could never solve.
A journey of a cold case that could destroy Grace, Conner, and his father. Conner doesn't want to hurt his cousin's mother, Grace doesn't want to investigate her mothers death, Conner's father wants to solve the cold case that has driven him crazy for years. Someone wants to see them dead. Have you ever had problems that you wanted to ignore and hope it went away? It's impossible for you to have faith when you are afraid. Fear will paralyze you. God has a plan for these two, a good plan and not for evil. God has a plan for you too. Trust God with whatever has broken your heart and He will make a way where there doesn't seem to be a way. God is so good!
“Plain Jeopardy” by Alison Stone is a short novel full of suspense and mystery. Why would a wholesome young man like Jason suddenly ingest drugs and drive, having an accident, killing himself and seriously injuring a young girl? While recovering from an operation at her sister’s bed and breakfast, Grace Miller, a travelling journalist, decides to write an article about the event and investigates rumors of drinking and drug parties among the Amish and English youth. While looking into this scenario, she and the local deputy, Conner, lock horns. Jason is a relative of the deputy and he is trying to shield his mother from further sadness. Conner is also the son of the retired man who was sheriff when her mother was brutally murdered. That is now a cold case. No leads were found and the result of this crime is that Grace, her father and two sisters moved away from the community and left the Amish community. Now one investigation causes another to begin again. Grace is prodded to look into her mother’s murder. The murderer has gotten away with it for over 30 years and is not about to get caught at this late date. He is bound to get rid of Grace just like he did with her mother. Together she and Conner solve both mysteries and in the process find each other.
Though the novel was very short, I thought Ms. Stone packed a lot of mystery and intrigue in those few pages. I enjoyed reading the novel.
I received a complimentary Kindle review copy of this book from NetGalley.com in return for posting a review. You can read this review on my blog at https://wp.me/p2pjIt-te. Check out other book reviews at http://imhookedonbooks.wordpress.com.

MY REVIEW
Another great Amish mystery by Alison. Grace can't stop investigating and writing her blog even with the danger it causes her and the police telling her to leave things alone, on both murders. She is tampering with more than one person should!
Loved this book but if you want to pick it up be sure and read "Plain Sanctuary" first. I see a third book dealing with Quail Hollow in May, "Plain Outsider", and I'm guessing there may be a fourth on coming in the future, I could be wrong on that but there is one sister I would like to learn more about.
I enjoyed this book. Grace is a journalist. It is in her blood. Recovering from surgery doesn't slow her down, not even when someone tries to run her over. I liked her tenacity, but at the same time, thought she needed a little more heart. I know journalists have a job to do but there is a fine line they must walk to tell their stories. Conner is called when someone tries to silence Grace's curiosity.
Unlike most on the police force, Conner doesn't completely shut down when Grace asks questions. He loves his small town and his family. He wants justice for everyone, especially his family. He likes that Grace asks questions, and it makes him think that he shouldn't take things, even people he's known his whole life, at face value. I enjoyed watching these two characters get to know each other and solve their mysteries.
It was a 3/5 for me. I enjoyed the two stories the characters were trying to solve.
Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
This is my first read by Alison Stone and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. An Amish suspense.
The main character, Grace Miller, returns to Quail Hollow to stay at her sister & brother-in-law's inn while they are out of town. She is recovering from a surgery. Grace is a traveling reporter and gets involved writing an article about a drunk teenager that is killed while hitting a young Amish girl. The girl is in a coma. Grace's reporting gets her into trouble and a series of events happen and her life is in danger. She meets police captain, Connor Gates, and he feels he needs to protect her and begins to have feelings for her.
The characters are well-developed and I enjoyed the spunkiness and inquisitive nature for digging into her investigation. Grace actually ends up trying to figure out two different cases. One is her mother's.
Lots of action and hinting at who the killer might be. The good suspense kept me turning the pages. I had a hard time putting this one down. I also liked the ongoing hints of romance as the main characters struggled with commitment.
Plain Jeopardy is a great suspenseful story. This book also has love inside - don't you just love it? It was shocking what happened in the beginning - but you where so proud of the Main character - you where cheering him on - then the other character you where feeling so heart broken for her - you loved them both - you where putting for them. You felt the author's love for them and you couldn't not love them yourself. This is one book that you should fall for yourself. I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.

This book is full of suspense, mystery, Amish, English, and of course romance. It is written in the present with great dialogue, descriptions, and much more.
Grace Miller is a reporter working on recovering and reporting in this quaint town. When her life may be in jeopardy will she be able to keep working on her stories or will it be enough to cause her to give up?
Conner Gates is the handsome police captain, when he comes to the rescue of Grace will he be able to keep personal matters personal or will it interfere with his work?
I enjoyed reading this novel and look forward to reading more from this author.
I really enjoyed this story involving journalist Grace Miller and police captain Connor Gates as they solve not one but two mysteries between the Amish and English communities in Quail Hollow, NY. One involves teenage drinking and drugs and the other Miller's Amish mother's murder many years ago. Great characters, easy to follow in spite of the overlapping mysteries.
Author Alison Stone wrote about Grace's older sister in Plain Sanctuary but it's not necessary to read that book first to enjoy this one. However, you might be like me and want to read it afterwards.
Two mysteries solved with a bonus romance. Alison Stone never disappoints. She is a master —introducing characters that you would choose as friends and leading them through exciting but difficult adventures to bring justice, usually to loved ones. Thank you, Ms. Stone, for a really entertaining afternoon.
Excellent book! From the very start the story drew me in and kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. I couldn't put it down and read the whole book in a couple of hours.
Excellent Book. Alison Stone writes wonderful Amish Mystery Books. I have read every one by her and love them. She is a gifted writer and she sucks you right into the story, you feel like you are right next to the Characters and watching everything going on.
I... can't remember the last time I read a Mills & Boon. Have I ever? I'm sure I would've ventured to try once upon a time but who knows what I read. You know me though, can't let a challenge passed... so I read. This was, as expected though, a very easy read.
For the mystery part, in comparison to the mystery/crime novels I love to read, it is very mild. The crime itself & consequence are awful but what I meant was that there was no graphic description of crime scene so no gore or any painful sexual offences etc. The protagonist, Grace Miller, is a journalist and came to the area to recuperate from appendectomy but she came after incidents so her investigation is some time after. And while she got into some scrapes of her own, again it was comparatively mild than what's out there in fiction.
For the romance part, it was so very very mild. It's even more tame than the YA novels that I love to read. There was no 'feels' or 'sparks' as such so no sexual tension just an unusual feel of attraction between the characters. There were kissing but oh so very unassuming. These two probably loved kissing each other but you know, we weren't told of any frisson or whatever it is they're feeling when they're kissing each other. We're just told they kissed.
Plain Jeopardy really was a breeze to read. There's nothing to shock the system. The mystery was rather well done and the pairing of characters also somewhat sweet. It was just that easy to read but nothing to write home about. I realise that I'm probably being generous with my star rating but it fits (JUST) within my comfort level.
