They say your past always show up when you least expect it. Brenden Smith made a promise to himself that he would never put his heart on the line again. He swore off romance after his last breakup. But what happens when the man he thought he was over shows up in his life with news he wasn’t expecting?
Stephen Young broke off his relationship with Brenden over a misunderstanding and miscommunication. Working for the FBI, he knew it was only a matter of time before he and Brenden would work together. Will they be able to cooperate and put the past behind them? Or will Stephen’s secret keep them apart?
This book contains sexually explicit materials and is intended for adult readers over the age of 18.
I like her plots and storylines, but PLEASE do some proofreading and editing!
Despite the numerous, distracting grammatical boo-boos, I really enjoy this book series. I've caved and purchased each one as it publishes, but those errors -- so not great, and very off-setting in ways that detract from both enjoying and easily following the plot. There were many times I would be so bothered by the poorly written statements/sentences that I would actually try to rewrite variations of whatever I thought the writer meant to say as a NOTE. This gets frustrating after a half dozen or so in just two to three chapters.
I was in the right mood, but this was not the right book.
I definitely wanted such an unreal, tangled story. Unfortunately, this book disappointed me. First, I was anticipating the unexpected pregnancy theme, but not a secret child. It was never my favorite theme and here too I was disappointed when it came. Fortunately, Brandon's introduction to Nick's life went quite smoothly, and wasn't particularly annoying.
Spoiler for those who have not seen the cover for this book. The secret pregnancy theme was also there. And that part irritated me too, because Stephen dragged on telling Brandon that he is pregnant for as long as possible. At one point, I was really annoyed. And Brandon reacted like a moron of course.
But what irritated me most was this whole mess with Paige. This was the most pointless part of this book. All the rest followed a certain convention of this story. But all this fuss with Paige was totally unreal, and straight out of cheap romance.
What surprised me was the relatively small amount of sex scenes, and the fact that they weren't very explicit. There is usually a lot of passion in mpreg books. Here, these scenes are described surprisingly chastely. Stephen and Brandon definitely want each other, but where all of these deeper feelings suddenly came from. I mean, they were a couple five years ago. But it seems as if not only did they start their current relationship where they left off before, but have even jumped a few levels up in the meantime. When? How? I'd like to see it, I'd like to believe in it.
The whole story is too much like category romance, with one slight change - the main characters are two guys. The plot is weak, there is not much real development in their relationship and the whole thing is quite annoying.
For five years FBI Agent Stephen Young has kept the news of the birth of his son Nicholas from fellow agent Brenden Smith, the boys father, but when circumstances change Stephen decides it's past time to tell him. Brenden, like Stephen, has never gotten over the other man. When he finds out the secret Stephen has been keeping from him he's furious and not sure he can forgive him.
This was basically an FBI centered story. There is FBI related action. Though this is not an omegaverse story or a shifter story there is mpreg in it. It was very well written. I really connected with the MC's and their immediate family. The book is written in both Stephen and Brenden's POV. The angst level is medium.
The only part of it I didn't care for was that there were so many characters between FBI co-workers and family members on both sides that it was really hard to keep track of who was who and who was with whom. Granted this is the only book in the series I have read so far. Maybe if I'd read them in order I'd have had an easier time figuring it out.
This is the third book in the One-night Stand series and for some reason, I wanted more. I loved the second chance aspect between Brenden and Stephen. The conflict and resolution was excellent BUT something about this series felt off, like it was rushed or unfinished.
Even though this book seemed off compared to the first two in the series I would love to see a book with Robert and Agent Baker.
I've been enjoying this little series a lot but was a little disappointed with this last book. The storyline was great and I liked both characters but the book desperately needed an editor. There were too many errors and small plot inconsistencies and it became a distraction. I also felt like the story really lacked more detailed sex scenes like the author meant to come back and expand on them but didn't. The ending was also really meh. Could have been a home run with even some minimal editing - bummer.
Besides the horrendous and creepy cover, the book was really good. I was curious about Stephen and Brenden's story since book one and even though the misunderstandings were a bit stupid, they held the story good. I liked Stephen -cough and his violet eyes 💕 - anyway, I liked him with Nick, and the relationship he shared with his father. I was a bit surprised with the turn of events in the books, never would've thought they would go downhill so fast but as always with this and the previous books, the action is a nice addition.
I skimmed this story enough to get the gist, a man has had a child but waits four years to tell the other father, he's got another secret too, both men have supportive families and the kid is adorable, both men also work in law enforcement, but that's just a distraction, the author writes as if you can just join separate thoughts with commas (although there are also sentence fragments that should have commas instead of periods), verb tenses are whatever the author picks at the moment, and I also noticed one missing word.
The story was great , the writing was decent but there were some editing errors and occasional sentences that made no sense.
The chemistry between the MCs was iffy at times and Brenden had a bit if a temper (not violent). Stephen would occasionally act so timid that I would forget he was an FBI agent. The story was engaging enough to keep me reading.
***** POV… third person
Standalone or series… book 3 in series. Can be read as standalone
Hangover… no
Recommend… maybe
Reread… maybe
***** KU read Stephen/Omega FBI agent Brenden/ FBI agent
Wasnt to sure about reading this book since I read the reviews first. But it goes to show that not everyone has the same opinion. To each their own. I loved reading this book. Seeing the characters work through thier problems and seeing that love always wins. Can't wait for the next book!
I don't like how the Author made Paige into a Psycho. It's just weird that all the women Brandon was with were not good for him...I guess the villains here are women. Do you hate women so much Author ?? And Brandon? There were so many signs he just kept ignoring. Dude wasn't acting like an FBI. The ending was anticlimactic for me.

Let’s start with the truth, Stephen pissed me off from the beginning and it kept going until halfway through the book. Oh, I liked the book but I didn’t like the miscommunication but I can see why it was needed for this story to make it work. And it did work, he needed to keep the secret from Brenden, the first secret, the second one..no. The angst, I loved it, I was shocked when the crazy happened. Wowza- from cute to crazy in zero point one second….nice. I can say the love between these two was great, that part never left them, even from the years apart it was there and you could feel that when you read it. And surprise- what about Stephen’s Dad- did anyone else see that coming??
Wow went trough so many emotions, love this series, love how the author brings all the characters in, im still loving the plot on the series, even though both of the MC's got me mad once in a while their love made everything better.
