Nightwraith #2

Blackstorm

Rate this book
Nightwraith. Necromancer. Bar owner. Target.

Lana Ambrose has always walked a thin line between light and darkness. However, dancing on the precipice is quite different from plunging into the void headfirst.

When an unknown threat forces her to seek out Alin, a dangerous gang leader and powerful demon lord, Lana realizes the void just might be her only choice.

To save her life, she has to allow Alin to use her beloved zombie bar as a front for his black marketeering. Losing her autonomy over her business is bad enough. But what Lana fears more than anything is losing her heart to a career criminal who seems to care for her just a little too much.

This is book two of the Nightwraith series and the main character is Lana Ambrose, a Nightwraith, with mixed witch and demon heritage making her part necromancer, part demon and the owner of a bar called The Night Hag, which took in custom from humans and supernaturals, all fascinated by the five zombies she had helping serve the table each night. The bar was something she had built up for herself in the city, whilst one of her sisters Lena was a powerful bounty hunter and the other sister Liva, lives in Faery with her High Lord. She has a group of humans protesting about her use of zombies in her bar, hanging around outside each night, but now she has some shadowy guy at the back of her bar and when she tries to see him clearly, he disappears. When she gets home to her apartment someone tries to kill her and she flees to the only true friend she can, Martin, a fellow necromancer, although not as powerful as her. She doesn’t know who is trying to kill her and his only suggestion is against everything she has ever been taught by her parents, especially her mother, and against what she wants in her bar. Her only choice is to contact a demon lord called Alin, who runs a large gang in her part of the city, moving stolen black magic relics and artifacts, as well as other criminal endeavours. He will find out who is trying to kill her and also protect her, but he wants to deal his illegal goods out of her bar! He will also see she is trained to protect herself against any other attacks that may come, but she doesn’t realise he means to train her himself and she is finding him a bit attractive and irresistible, so close up!
She is giving up everything from her life, in order to stay alive, but may also be losing her heart to someone who is portrayed as a heartless demon lord and gang leader, who has done a lot of dark things in his past. Lana treads a fine line between light and dark, with her parent’s heritage, but this was also amended in her first year of birth, as was his, to make her stronger and to eliminate the unwanted side of their heritage. He was kicked out of the Shadow World as a kid and had to live on the human streets, as they feared he was already to powerful and would want to eliminate them. All he really wants is a family, but his own didn’t even want him! Lana discovers she is not the only necromancer that has been targeted and they soon find themselves facing off against a more powerful foe. This foe is not to be trifled with and what they want is more than Lana is willing to give. Her life may need to be forfeit, but she would gladly do that, before submitting to this foe’s demands. This story tells the unlikely coupling of two sworn enemies, Lana and Alin, who go from enemies to allies in the fight against an evil and deranged foe, who wants to rule the world, both human and demon, using skills similar to Lana’s, but using black magic to obtain his darkest desires. A tense battle at the finale of the book brings opposing hordes of zombies to the fight and a sudden appearance by her sister Liva wards off the innocent, away from the danger to al left on the battlefield. A tense time to find if out the main characters will survive or not, as the two sides face off against each other and the power balance is leaning towards their foe! Add in the steamy romance and this read is fairly action packed and brings you the wonders of a zombie bar and supernaturals galore. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

The Nightwraith Series by Gaja Kos is a dark, mesmerizing blend of fantasy, romance, and supernatural intrigue that captivates from the very first page. With its lush world-building, complex characters, and emotionally charged storytelling, this series stands out as a masterful work of urban fantasy.

Gaja Kos crafts a universe that feels both dangerous and enchanting, filled with magic, mystery, and moral complexity. The writing is vivid and atmospheric, pulling readers deep into a world where shadows hold secrets and power comes at a price. Each book builds seamlessly on the last, expanding the lore and deepening the emotional stakes with every twist and revelation.

The characters are the heart of the series—flawed, fierce, and unforgettable. The protagonist’s journey is one of strength, vulnerability, and transformation, making her both relatable and inspiring. The relationships, whether romantic or adversarial, are layered with tension and authenticity, adding depth to the fast-paced, action-driven plot.

Kos’s prose is elegant yet sharp, balancing poetic description with gripping dialogue. The pacing is impeccable, with moments of quiet reflection woven between explosive confrontations and heart-stopping suspense. Every chapter feels purposeful, leading to climaxes that are both thrilling and emotionally resonant.

The Nightwraith Series earns five stars for its immersive world, powerful storytelling, and unforgettable characters. Gaja Kos has created a darkly beautiful saga that lingers long after the final page—a must-read for fans of fantasy that dares to explore both the light and the shadows within.

This book features Lana, the Necromancer amongst the three Nightwraith sisters. We met Lana briefly in the first book and I was very excited to see her book coming up next. She is so well put together and despite her magic being considered on the darker side of the spectrum she has a very strict moral code and refuses to be anything like her mother or have anything to do with demons and their power hungry ways. When she is attacked in her own home and barely manages to escape with her life she asks her best friend for help. The only person he knows who could be of assistance is Alin, a demon lord and head of a notoriously dangerous gang. Alin agrees to help her, for a price, and also insists that he be the one to train her in self-defense. The plot thickens when Alin's gang runs into trouble the first time they try and move contraband into her club, when they realise that she is not the only necromancer in danger, their passion threatens to overwhelm them, the danger seems to be emanating from someone who once ran with Alin and the fact that Lana has sworn off demons and Alin has sworn off love. But can these two, who are so obviously a match made in heaven, survive the threat to Lana, open their hearts to possibilities they had previously closed themselves off to and allow themselves something that could be truly magical. Full of action, danger and passion I loved the story and the characters were perfectly crafted.

Alin and Lana's Story . . .

Lana Ambrose, half demon-half witch, runs her own bar, The Night Hag, with a staff of zombies to serve customers. This is not strange for her since Lana is a necromancer. But not everyone likes this. And when someone tries to kill her, she is referred to Alin, a dangerous gang leader and powerful demon lord, to seek his protection.

Alin is willing to help her but wants something from her in return as he needs to track down a dangerous necromancer, and necromancers are unable to hide from each other. And Alin promised he would keep men around her friend and mentor Martin, another necromancer, to keep him safe until they captured Alexander. But even combining their strength, would they have enough power to defeat Alexander when the fight came?

In the meantime, Alin says that to save her life, she will have to let him use her zombie bar as a front for his black market business. As they work together, he is not what she had imagined. An even bigger fear now is the way she responds to him and fears she may lose her heart to this career criminal who just might feel something for her as well. Will they lose each other in the battle with Alexander? Or can their combined resources bring him down?

Oh my god, until this series I hadn't even heard of this author. I seriously can't believe it, this book is fantastic. Alin is so alluring and too hot for his own good, I wanted to trade places with Lana. His hot and cold demeanor, just made me swoon, and Lana is a unique and extremely interesting woman. Like most women, she has that stubborn streak. The storyline is really well implemented, it starts off with a good descriptive intro. Then by chapter 3 it really gets into the thick of the action. There's some fun fight scenes, and plenty of steamy moments where things don't quite go as you hoped they would. I won't say anything about the ending because I don't want to ruin it, but honestly this series is an incredible read for anyone who loves magic, Zombies and Demons. Among other supernaturals.

Our heroine is one of four sisters who straddle two worlds right up until our hero enters the picture.

This is book two of the series but it works just fine as a standalone. It is only loosely connected to the previous book.

This is a urban fantasy story with an enemies to lovers theme. The story is solid and well written, with an intriguing cast of characters. Their is a good bit of mystery about our heroine which is fun to uncover as the story progresses. The plot is also good and includes lots of twists and turns which will kept me engaged in the story. I found this one to be better than the first book and highly enjoyable. Overall, I like the way the series is going and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Highly recommended.

Lana runs a bar called The Night Hag, which has zombies to serve people, which are basically an extension of Lana, for she is a necromancer. Unfortunately she seems to be targeted by someone, and she has no idea who, but she might have to resort to help from Alin, a demon lord and gang leader (someone she isn't sure she even trusts). Can Lana and Alin find who's threatening Lana's life? Does Alin feel the attraction Lana does to him? I loved this thrilling supernatural romance, it had plenty of danger, action and sizzling attraction. Both Lana and Alin were interesting and easy to like/love, I loved how sassy Lana is.

Lana has her own bar and her bar keepers are zombies and not everyone agrees with that.
She is fine with that, till somebody tries to kill her. She follows the advice of a friend and turns to one of her enemies for help, Alin the demon lord.

He wants something from her in return and she agrees.
They go on a hunt together after the evil Alexander who uses necromance power for his evil purposes. They have to fight hard and give everything to win from this sick guy.

In the mean time Lana and Alin grow closer and closer to each other with sparks flying between them.

A great actioning love story this is.
If you aren't afraid of zombies and demons, this is a story for you.

This is the first book I have read of this series! I have read this author before. This was a bit of a stretch for me, but I persevered through and finally I can say this! This was interesting. I am not so sure about some of the characters as like I have said earlier this is the first book I have read in this series. I usually do not read this genre but I stepped out of my comfort zone and was surprised I enjoyed this book! Engaging with elements of the paranormal mixed with some occult features. A very interesting story!

What can I say, but another captivating story from Gaja.
Lana is the second sister who is half demon and half witch.
Her abilities enable her to be a necromancer. Did I mention
that she also runs the pub called The Night Hag in which she
practices her skills. Lana also has run into problems, one of which
is someone is trying to kill her.
Enter Alin - Demon Lord, Crime Boss - who Lana goes to for protection.
What follows is an interesting story with lots of action.
This whole series is a must read.

She is many things including a necromancer and running a bar. She is still getting use to who she was and what she can do when she receives a death threat. She knows she may need to strike a deal with the devil to get the training and safety she needs. Will he help her? Why does he seem so close to her? Could she learn from him? How will it all go? Follow them to find out

Lana and Alin: another story from the Shadow World!
by Happy-Girl

Lana is a necromancer and a really good one! But then it seems like someone is targeting necromancers she seeks the help of Alin, a Demon Lord so powerful!
They'll fight together against the evil and this time also Lana's power, like Liva's before, will save the day.
Can't wait for the last one!

Good

Enjoyed the storyline and characters, it is the only one I've read in the series so far (this is actually the second book). Series is about four sisters each finding their own mate. Give it a read.
