Not a bad read. My first from this author. I got it as a freebie some time ago, and have finally gotten around to reading it. Le Veque seems to be very prolific, and I would consider reading more of her books.
The main characters are likeable, and de Wolfe is part of a large, robust family, who all seem to have their own books LOL. It is a bit old-school/bodice-ripper in feel. I did find it hard to believe that the MCs fell in love so quickly. There was also a bit of violence. The storyline overall was otherwise decent.

First Impressions DarkWolfe is a story that I was very eager for because it features another half to a story that I had read previously from this series. In reality I think you should read DarkWolfe and Shadowwolfe together as they are twins and they both suffer a tragedy but yet go different paths. I was very intrigued to get the story from DarkWolfe and seeing the POV from Troy as I have already read Scott's view of the event. And Troy definitely went a very different route in facing grief than Scott ever did. I really adored Troy. He was left and abandoned by his twin and forced to face up to the grief. And we see how that has worn on him but in some ways he is more closed off to love than even Scott. But this story was very different than I expected it to be and I adored seeing these two who begin as enemies and form a strong bond to each other and work together in their arranged marriage that I just loved seeing.
First Line She was cold to the touch.
The Main Protagonists The Hero: Troy de Wolfe Twin to the first born of William de Wolfe. A powerful knight in his own right and just as capable of being a leader and a fighter. He is a widower having lost his wife and two daughters in a accident. Has one surviving son in training.
The Heroine: Rhoswyn Whitton Kerr Rhoswyn was the only child to her father, and when her mother passed, she was trained as if she was a son and a warrior. All she knows is how to be a man and to fight on the battlefield.
Summary When the de Wolfe go to protect their lands and people from raiders on the Scottish border, they claim the tower on a Scottish land, but Troy finds himself the honorary warrior to not only battle their best fight to claim the land but no matter who wins or loses both of them will be forced to marry because this fight will be one pitting a man against a woman. But Troy and Rhoswyn are both pawns in this game. And even though at first they are enemies, they quickly call a truce with each other and start working as a couple in their new marriage that neither of them have had a choice in. But as they start to work together in learning what it means to be husband and wife, there is a dangerous plot that could destroy everything that they are working to build...
What I Loved DarkWolfe was a delightful installment and I had a blast breezing through this one here. It was really interesting seeing how Le Veque set this one up. Just be warned that it takes a while before our characters meet each other, about 30%. It didn't bother me though, it really was needed to set up their marriage and their battle haha But I really enjoyed seeing how these two get on. The heroine does have a lot to learn though. And I felt like Troy is just the perfect teacher. He is so patient and understanding with her. Even the third act conflict definitely made sense. What really impressed me the most was that when it matters, these two make a truce and make the best of the circumstances that they are both thrown in. They act like adults when it comes to being responsible and giving honor to their parents, which back in medieval times, was pretty vital to survival back then. I loved the family connections that we see focused on.
The relationship that builds between Troy and Rhoswyn was so wonderful to see. They both are like babes when it comes to learning what it takes to building home. Rhoswyn knows literally nothing on what it means to be a wife or being a chatelaine. And does she learn but not without some help from friends of Troy. I really enjoyed seeing Troy and Rhoswyn find their way together. They never give up on each other and keeping working on their marriage which I found so encouraging. We see some great depth in the last act especially and boy does Le Veque really tackle on the emotion so brilliantly there. You will definitely need your box of tissues with this one.
What I Struggled With There wasn't too much that I struggled with, I kinda wish that the relationship had been more flushed out and it could have used at least another 50-100 pages to focus on the romance more. We spend the first 30% of the book building up to their first meeting, so I do think there could have been more relationship building time put into the story.
Overall View DarkWolfe was a superb read that delivered in the atmospheric vibes that I adore seeing a medieval romance and all the feels that the author placed in the story captured the moments perfectly! Definitely eager for more!
Favorite Quote(s) “I am not strong,” he said. “I simply did what needed to be done. Running from grief does not make it go away.”
“Things like this… they happen, Atty. Women die and men die. It is the way of life. But I would like to think that in the grand scheme of things, a death serves a higher purpose. Mayhap we do not understand what the purpose is when it happens but, in time, we will see the light. We will see that everything in life happens as it should.”
You were in the dream and you told me that I must come to you. I am here if you want me and for the rest of my life, I shall belong to you and only you. And I will adore you until the day I die.”

Warmin' by the fire- a medium level of sexual tension, a balance of sexual and emotional intimacy, lighter on the details in the sexual moments.
Troy de Wolfe is the second son (a twin) of the powerful, legendary English border lord, Sir William de Wolfe. Troy is a fearsome warrior who has a noble heart that inspires loyalty with his easy command presence. He is also quick to anger and sometimes makes rash decisions. At the time of our story, Troy is still reeling from a tragic accident which claimed the lives of his beloved his wife and two small daughters. He vows he will never marry again, honoring the memory of his wife.
Rhoswyn Whitton Kerr, is the only child of "Red" Keith Kerr, a Scottish laird of a small clan close to the English borders. Red Kerr has trained his daughter from an early age to be a warrior. As a result, Rhoswyn is headstrong and fearless. Her entire focus is on what her father has taught her which are all things re men and war. As a result of this upbringing, she has had no real exposure to "ladies" of the day or what they were trained from birth to do. But, Rhoswyn is intensely loyal, intelligent, brave, and eager to please.
As was the feelings in those turbulent days, the hatred between the Scots and the English was fierce as English kings were forever trying to claim and subdue Scotland. When a small outpost on Kerr land is captured by Sir William de Wolfe, Red Kerr proposes a battle between the best de Wolfe warrior and the best Kerr warrior to decide final ownership of the outpost. Sir William de Wolfe accepts the challenge. However, Red Kerr is sneaky, sly and cunning for he is counting on the de Wolfe's infamous honor as a warrior to affect the outcome of this situation. For Red Kerr is hoping the real prize will be him having an important alliance with the powerful de Wolfe family which would definitely benefit his small clan. Yep, sneaky.
This book is really character driven. I really didn't like Rhoswyn at first but as the story progressed and her character slowly developed, I really started to like her more and more. It was almost sad how no one had really taken the time or care to even tell her about simple, basic personal needs. She grew up with no friends and no woman to even follow as an example. After the "battle," she was basically left by her father with strangers and told this is your life from now on. And, yet, she not only accepted her fate while fighting her "warrior" instincts, but endeavored to be the very best wife to the son of a legendary English warrior in one of the most powerful families in England. It was like watching a weed in the dirt transform into a beautiful flower. All accomplished with Troy de Wolfe's patience, attention, care and understanding. It was a joy to watch.
And, Troy de Wolfe! Oh my! A man who was not known for his patience, still hurting from the loss of his wife and daughters and forced into what he saw as a ridiculous situation. Knowing he had no choice because his honor and the de Wolfe name was a stake, he decided he would make what he thought at the time the best of it. Little did he know what his patience, attention and care with Rhoswyn would mean to his life and his very soul.
THERE WAS a cast of thousands. This is a series. The first I've read in it and it mentions every relative , friend ,old friend , new friend, old enemy new enemy that managed to tiptoe through the series. It was distracting and for the most part unnecessary. Even dead ancestors got there two minutes of fame. The book was so crowded with characters it barely had space for the H/h which was ok because they were a pretty dull couple. They had about five minutes of I hate you evil enemy and then went to Insta love lust. KUDOS to the hero by the way for getting all hot and bothered over a h who is a grown woman who has never once in her life taken a bath.. She also doesn't own a comb. Her hair is described as filthy and matted. He is said to love the way she smells. Seriously? Makes you wonder what his first wife was like.
Speaking of the dead wife there is an excessively maudlin epilogue that shows the h leaving a party and going to the dead wife's crypt to tell her how much she loves the hero and how she will be a wonderful wife to him and she will come back and talk to her from time to time. Apparently Kathryn Levque has never been a second wife. I am not even remotely tempted to read another book in this series.
It was free which is the only reason I read book 10 as the only book I have in this series. My mistake, as I suspect if I had all the books I would have enjoyed it more. Something of an epic tale about a large family, so lots of characters, and back story. So the H is grieving loss of his wife and 2 little girls, so he's grumpy and the h was a warrior. He was actually kind to her, but she gave up her warrior status too quickly to become a cleaner and a cook. Basically he made her fail, except in the bedroom. Even then, she was filthy, she'd never had a bath and he loved her 'musty' smell? The adventure was good but not keen on making battle hardened men seem stupid.
World-building is an art. Truly. As I read each one of Le Veque’s over 60 novels, I become more and more immersed in her stories. It’s like going home, time after time when I again encounter William de Wolfe, his sons, wives and offspring. The author creates such noteworthy personalities, full of charm, honor and charisma you are compelled to understand the inner demons woven into a man’s soul. Even though set in days long gone by, human frailty and what pushes a man to react as he does, stands in good stead for these times.
Her characters with their challenges and emotion drive the story forward in a setting which has always captivated me. If you haven’t had the chance to experience her world, make sure you begin this series.
As far as Troy was concerned, twin brother to Scott, life ceased to exist when his wife Helene and his two children were swept away in a drowning. For three years he’d only existed, but always obedient to his father, William de Wolfe.
A battle ensues, removing reivers from Monteviot Tower, property of Keith Kerr, a keep not far from his father’s outpost, Castle Questing.
Red Keith Kerr decides it is time to remove the English as a threat, although he hadn’t had a problem with the de Wolfe’s. It is against the Scots makeup to want any English around to monitor their comings and goings. Keith’s a crafty man, but also a man with compassion buried beneath his haughty exterior and dirt. He cooks up the idea he’d like to have his daughter marry the son of de Wolfe, Troy. The English wouldn’t be enemies, but tied together in marriage. Crafty he is, as I said.
Scenes follow where two fathers try to reason with their young. William has an easier time of it, because Troy, as a knight, knows he must obey his father, and the girl did win the fight. But Rhoswyn is a little she-devil, escaping and fighting her own people, something like a mad woman. But apparently, her da helped her see reason, also honor is at stake from her side. It all happens so fast! I’m sure they are both in shell-shock.
Red Keith Kerr wanted a son from his wife, but a girl child was born. Once his wife passed on, he molded his daughter, Rhoswyn, into a warrior. She’s smart, clever and not above using surprise of her gender in battle as you’ll see when facing Troy in battle garb. It’s just enough of a hesitation she needs to get the upper-hand. She’s also exceedingly beautiful, that is, when she discovers there are such things as soap and a comb! I so enjoyed seeing her transformation. I loved Rhoswyn’s esprit de corps and determination to fit into Troy’s life after she finds Troy to be only kind and encouraging to her.
You can take the warrior out of battle, but you can’t take the battle out of a warrior. A another point, you’ll enjoy in this story.
Troy learns a lot about himself in this story. He learns life does offer second chances, and love can be found again if you are willing to let it.
As in any wonderful romance, the writer creates scenes which keep me teary-eyed and others all-out bawling. I hope you’ll take time to discover the de Wolfe’s. A family made of grand stuff!
Troy de Wolfe upset at losing his wife and two kids to death was not only deadly in battle but became dead inside and was known as the darkest Wolfe of them all. His knights knew him as the dark Wolfe striking and killing everything in his path when he needed too especially when it came to defending Monteviot tower against the Scottish which caused him to win that battle. When Rhoswyn hears of the English invading the tower she is sparked into action to save it coming up with a brilliant plan. When Rhoswyn goes to get back the tower she fights Troy in battle which takes him by surprise but the biggest surprise of all is when her father has plans to marry her off to Troy. What an amazing story by Ms. Kathryn Le Veque. Sure I say that repeatedly when I read her stories but I seriously mean it. Ms. Le Veque just gets into your soul writing such a beautifully told tale with characters that you instantly fall for that you not only see everything going on around you the battles, the interactions between all the characters but the places are all vividly portrayed in amazing detail that it swept me up making the book difficult to put down keeping me turning pages never wanting the book to end. Troy is a wonderful hero to fall for handsome, strong, aggressive, stoic and angry about losing his wife but also having a heart even though he fights everything even love. I couldn’t help but like him falling for him as the book progressed even though at times I wanted to shake him for his brashness or behavior towards Rhoswyn. Of course Rhoswyn is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Now Rhoswyn what a great heroine fierce, beautiful, intelligent but best of all can fight battles like a true warrior. She just made me pump my fist in the air several times. Of course Rhoswyn is still feminine enough to be a woman. I don’t think she would appreciate having tea but I definitely would invite her when I’m hunting if she was real. This book is a definite keeper and of course something I’m going to reread more than just once. Ms. Le Veque keeps reeling me in awaiting her next book in breathless anticipation!
This deserves well over five stars! Wow! DarkWolfe is a keeper for me. It is a book I will reread over and over again. I can honestly say this story has the best Epilogue I have EVER read. The last chapter and epilogue gutted me to where I remained with a thick knot in my throat and that was because I was filled with emotion. Even after I finished the story, the knot remained. It moved me that much, which is rare for me. What a beautifully well written story. DarkWolfe did not disappoint.
In pure Le Veque form, you truly "live" through and accompany Troy de Wolfe on his heart-wrenching journey. After he loses his faith, that wretched day, a hardened and darker de Wolfe emerges from all of his despair. While living with his guilt, Troy still remains entirely loyal to the greatest man he knows and adores...his father The Wolfe.
The darkest de Wolfe of all struggles with deep-rooted grief and all types of guilt, when fate intervenes after a siege upon a small Scottish Clan's holding along the border. At his father's request, Troy de Wolfe faces off, representing the de Wolfe's as their Greatest Warrior. Unfortunately for Troy, fate has a wicked sense of humor.
Rhoswyn Whitton Kerr is hopping mad at her father, Red Keith, and she insists he take back the holding sieged by the de Wolfe's. She is the best warrior of her father's clan. Having been taught at a very early age to be a great warrior, she can best any man. She has a bright idea on how to get the holding back, but fate rears its' head along with her father.
Congratulations to this author for sharing this truly exceptional story! This is a story to be kept in my personal Library! Loved it!
I absolutely LOVED Troy and Rhoswyn story!! It had everything I love in a historical romance: a Knight with a tortured soul, a spirited Scottish lass, humor, romance, intrigue and true love. This was a completely satisfying, "sigh worthy" book, for me. The characters had depth and a real element of reality to them. The plot was creative and well-developed. Le Veque never disappoints!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this story in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so
The dialogue written in Scottish dialect is twisting my already warped brain. I can’t work out whether I am supposed to be hearing it as Scottish, Irish or even a touch of lanky twang . Too many characters, not enough depth
The beginning of DarkWolfe is so emotional, I had a particularly difficult time continuing. Troy de Wolfe is summoned home to discover his wife, sister-in-law, and their children have drown in a terrible accident. But unlike his twin brother Scot, who separates himself from his entire family as his way of coping, Troy remains to deal with the loss on his own.
Two years later, Troy is tricked in a trial by combat situation. Instead of returning the Kerr's keep that the Wolfe Pack has claimed, the winner demands a marriage to cement an alliance with the challengers. Troy is the sacrificial lamb. But who he's saddled with is more than just the average woman. He's forced to marry a Scottish warrior woman.
DarkWolfe definitely has it's depressing moment in the beginning, but it quickly became a light hearted and much more enjoyable read. Seeing a man suffer an unimaginable loss, and struggle to move on, but then actually being able to find unexpected happiness in an arranged marriage was good. Getting to know the warrior maiden who made it all possible was what I enjoyed the most. I empathized with Roswyn. Having skills with a sword and none as a lady would be a huge disadvantage for a woman of that era. Dispite the circumstances, the honorable character of both the H and h make the relationship work.
A lively tale set in the turbulent landscape of medieval Scotland, “Dark Wolfe” transports the reader into unfamiliar and violent times where powerful knights rule the lands.
The tragedy of the de Norville wives continues to wreak havoc on the deWolfe twins. This time we learn of Troy deWolfe's dark journey of unparalleled grief for the woman he vowed to love forever.
Troy has had a great love and a wonderful life with Helene de Norville that ended with her tragic death along with their infant twins. Although Troy was embittered by their loss, his response was the opposite of his brother, Scott's reaction to the same loss. He continues to work with his family and defend the deWolfe dynasty.
Although he harbors resentment for his twin brother's flight from family duty, he continues to remain honor bound to the family. Surrounded by family, he is truly a tragic and solitary figure. His unfailing honor, however, leads him into the last thing he wants for himself - a second marriage to a complete stranger.
Warrior Woman Extraordinaire
Enter a warrior woman of superior skill and cunning. A chatelaine, however, she most definitely is not. Only Troy would try to turn a warrior into a housewife. Never have I read a heroine like Rhoswyn Kerr. She is completely ignorant of the womanly graces, but once she reconciles herself to her marriage, she will bend over backwards to hilarious results to support her man.
Rhoswyn has much to recommend her to readers. She is written as a woman with deep feeling and zero guile. She is exactly what she is. She has no artfulness about her at all. She is a blank slate having lost her mother at an early age and raised ostensibly to be a man.
Characters Grow Up and Mature
I've adored the deWolfe twins since I first met them in the Thunder Lords series. As I make my way through Le Veque's medieval world, it is heartwarming to encounter these characters at different life stages. My mischievous young twins are now mature men who have weathered unimaginable tragedy. This pairing was interesting and satisfying.
The protectiveness and care shown to the family patriarch, the long lived and forever formidable William de Wolfe, brings tears to my eyes.
Along with William the whole crew was back! Kieran, alive though suffering with a weak heart, I was so overjoyed to have him there. Paris, always a favorite with his quick wit and needling ways. Michael, mostly silent, but still present nevertheless. Cassius and Sable deShera did not disappoint. What a lovely couple.
Although these books are written as standalone works, I adore the continuity of the various houses and their denizens. As long as Kathryn Le Veque keeps writing, I will keep reading.
Pas baca judulnya berasa kaya heronya bakal kejam gitu ya? Padahal enggak. Baik banget malah.
Caranya? Melalui duel tadi. Awalnya klan De Wolfe berpikir kalau menang Chief Kerr mau minta bentengnya kembali. Ternyata justru minta persekutuan dengan syarat putrinya dinikahi. Nikahnya maksa banget pula.
Mau jadi suami pengertian. Bahkan mendatangkan temannya & istrinya, Lady Sable untuk ngajari Rhoswyn. So, si Rhoswyn dimake over deh 😅
Love, Love, Love Medieval Stories. They are not written much any more, so was excited to try a new author.
Could not finish this book. Quit at page 135. Even though Le Veque shows talent in her writing, it is difficult to like her writing style. It's like she did all this research and wants to immerse readers into the "feel" of history and medieval times, but she doesn't create any depth to the characters because of the way she tells the story. It's difficult to feel a connection to the protagonists because Le Veque does not write strictly from the characters' point of view. It's like she is sitting around the campfire telling readers the story about (in this case, Troy and Rhoswyn), but then all the sudden she tries to put readers into the characters's shoes by switching to telling the story from that character's point of view. Then all the sudden, jerk, she's back to the campfire telling readers the story again. Then, jerk, telling the story from another character's point of view and, jerk, inserting a somewhat lackluster conversation between multiple characters so readers are not quite sure whose point of view we are experiencing.
In this book, there were a *lot* of characters milling around. (Which is a really smart way to get readers to want to read more of her books . . . because Le Veque does write well enough to create an interest in the characters and to want to read their story.) But, again, it's the writing style. It just doesn't work for me.
For instance, in the "warrior to warrior" battle scene, instead of putting readers into the head of each warrior as they faced one another, it felt more like we were sitting on the walls of the castle with the spectators, watching, rather than being a participant. (When I read a book, I want to be in the shoes of the characters, not watch them walk through the scene.) There is so much potential here, just wish her writing style meshed with my reading preferences.
Dark Wolfe is yet another outstanding example of Kathryn Le Veque’s astounding ability to transpose her readers back through time into the lives of her magnificent characters. Her breathtakingly descriptions of her complex characters is most impressive. Troy, the younger of William de Wolfe’s twin boys, is an almost overwhelming character. Not only is he exceedingly easy on the eyes, but he is old enough to have a certain degree of depth to his emotions. Have your tissues ready for the death of his wife, Helene and his twin daughters. That loss is critical to the development of Troy’s deeper character. In his grief, he formed an impenetrable shell around his heart as well as a fracturing his belief in God. It was easier for him not to discuss or contemplate any emotion or inner turmoil, in his efforts to remain detached from life, or in his mind, vulnerable. Rhoswyn on the other hand, is filled with, emotional questions once she is overwhelmed by Troy’s patience, kindness and sensitivity. She unwittingly cracks the shell he used to surround his heart. Having grown up primarily with the tutelage of only her father, who unconsciously placed restraints on any feminine behavior she may exhibit, she was therefore denied any nurturing or female emotions. Rhoswyn was used to being a warrior, and therefore inept at any and all female skills necessary to becoming a wife or chatelaine.
Watch how these two independent, stubborn and often in Impulsive characters handle their own emotional lack of responsiveness to each other. This is another awe inspiring novel by Kathryn Le Veque. Even though this can be read as a stand-alone novel, I suspect most readers will want to continue reading about the adventures of this family and each of its members, as well as becoming acquainted with the secondary characters involved. An excellent read!
This is the second novel I read by this author. I felt I should’ve started with book one before reading this and I recommend it anybody is reading this. This was a free book and I enjoyed The Legend so I decided to give this a try.
Plot is very simple - Troy de Wolfe (H) under the command of his father William de Wolfe (H of the first book in this series) were trying to rid Montevoet, a small holding on the border of Scotland and England of squatters who have been raiding from settlements within his properties. They successfully took the tower but the owner of the property was unhappy. He doesn’t have much men to regain what he lost. So his daughter, Rhoswyn (h) came up with a plan where the best warrior of each side fight in a battle to determine who keeps it. Rhoswyn, an only child was raised like a warrior by her father so she was chosen to represent her clan and surprise the other side by revelling that she is a woman using shock tactics to win.
Rhoswyn fought Troy and she did beat him. The twist was that her father wanted her to marry A warrior and form an alliance of marriage instead of retaking Montevoet.
I had issues with the plot as it was very weak and there was plenty of repetition- we know how they met, who one the battle etc but it was repeated many times in thought or conversation with other characters. If there was more plot I think this would’ve been a really good story. Another issue was the ending. I understand that people were tough in that period, but the killings at the end was really hard for me to accept- as well as the h accepting them. She is suppose to be loyal but she just accepted her cousin’s dying as if it was ok. They were people she lived with all her life. It didn’t make sense.
I will try a few more books. However, I feel if the books are in series it’s better to try and read it in order.
This amazing story is yet another in the saga of the Wolfe family of knights. Troy, a widowed English knight who commands troops in northern England is forced to marry the daughter of the leader of a small Scottish clan, Rhoswyn. The marriage is a result of a 'bet' of sorts, and Troy was on the losing end of it- definitely not something this knight is accustomed to experiencing. Rhoswyn isn't thrilled either, and the wedding is definitely entertaining! Rhoswyn isn't one's idea of a petite wallflower. She has been raised by her father, his only child, as he would have raised a son, which he would have preferred, despite his love for her. So Rhoswyn is an accomplished warrior, but not adept with much of the wifely duties of the keep. This gives the story both funny and poignant moments throughout. The plot has several colorful characters that add to the tale, a bit of intrigue, action, as does every LeVeque novel, and plenty of heat between the two main characters. The epilogue had this reader reaching for tissues as this was a terrific HEA! I loved this book and will keep it as one I am certain to read more than just once again. I highly recommend this to lovers of historical romance, and romance in general as it is one of this author's best yet!
Troy de Wolfe is the second son by only fifteen minutes behind his twin brother Scott de Wolfe, they are sons of the powerful, legendary English border lord, Sir William de Wolfe. Troy and Scott’s life were changed forever when a tragic accident claimed the lives of their wives and children. They all were swept away in a drowning accident in which Troy lost his beloved his wife and two small daughters. He vows to honor his wife’s memory and vows to never marry again. Troy quickly became the dark and fiery second son of the Wolfe of the Border always obedient to his father, William de Wolfe and in charge of his army war machine. For two years now he’s merely existed, living from battle to battle. Not far from his father’s outpost, Castle Questing the De Wolfe army has just finished removing reiver from Monteviot Tower, property of Red Keith Kerr. The Wolfe has invaded Red Keith’s territory and Red Keith shows up and proposes a battle between the best de Wolfe warrior and the best Kerr warrior to decide final ownership of the Monteviot outpost with the winner deciding their prize and Sir William de Wolfe accepts the challenge. What they don’t expect is the best Kerr warrior to be is a women, Rhoswyn Whitton Kerr the chief Red Kerr’s daughter, she quite takes Troy by surprise and wins the battle. Troy loses and her father’s request takes them all by surprise when he asks for a marriage and an important alliance with the powerful de Wolfe family. Troy vows to never marry and poor Rhoswyn has no desire to marry, she’s brought kicking and screaming to the wedding ceremony. She grew up with no friends, no woman to teach her, so she was raised her to be a warrior. After the marriage she wants to be a good wife, but she doesn’t know how. It was so touching to see how much patience Troy had with a wife he never wanted. Rhoswyn seemed to bloom as the story went under Troy’s guidance and patience to teach her. She realized Troy is a good man and warrior and wants to please in every way, if only she can. Troy knows she is slowly starting to fill his empty heart and soul with meaning again, but he cannot love or care for another the heartache he could endure is too over whelming to even bear thinking about. A great love story filled with adventure, passion and a love to last a life time. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.
Another fantastic deWolfe story! LeVeque does it again. Every time I read a LeVeque deWolfe story I can not help but think, “Lord I could use a deWolfe man in my life”. Troy is a fantastic hero, who is written much different than his brother Scott (Shadowwolfe), but with enough similarities that the characteristics that make us love a Wolfe of the Border sine thru. Compassionate yet there is a bottled temper fueled by life’s tragedies that he has taken in stride to continue to do his duty as a knight. This makes him all the more endearing. At first I was not sure I would like the heroin, there was something in the first couple chapters that I was unsure of, but that quickly changed as the story grows and the two come to understand how similar they are. One of my favorite parts of LeVeques mighty houses that produce so many English Knights, is that she never forgets to include them somewhere in the story. This story if littered with old friends from previous reads. A true nod to how mighty the family ties were and how great families build upon other great families. Wonderfully written and as expected another fantastic deWolfe hero!!!!!
I love, love, love this series. This is the story of Troy de Wolfe and his Scottish wife, Rhoswyn. Troy was the second born twin of William de Wolfe. Troy's wife, like that of his twin brother, Scott, was killed along with their younger two children in a drowning accident. Troy stayed, unlike his brother, and dealt with his brief the best he could. Two years later, Scott is still gone to parts unknown while Troy continues to hold down Kale Water. The story begins with Troy involved in a battle over a Scottish holding which lies within Scottish territory, which leads to Troy fighting a Scottish female for the keep they have just claimed for the English de Wolfe family. Because of the shock of realizing he was fighting a female, she managed to beat him. However, when her father laid out the terms after the fight, she was enraged to find that she had not been fighting to regain the keep, but that her father had made marriage to her as a part of the alliance he proposed for security of the clan and borderlands. Thus, Rhonwyn and Troy were forced to marry. Now you'll have to read the book to find out the rest. What a great read!!
After the tragedy that took his wife and two young daughters, Troy de Wolfe took to war. Every battle, he was at the front. There was nothing else to live for. The rooting out of Scottish outlaws that have been raiding English villages us just another fight. Rhoswyn Kerr has been brought up as her father's son. Her mother died when she was young, so her father looked after her the only way he knew. She is now his best warrior. When the English take over one of his out lying keeps he sees a chance to change things. You will need to have the tissues handy before you even start this book. You will need them off and on throughout. There are also a lot of laughs and plenty of excitement. Two extremely strong characters that are also very vulnerable make this a marvellous story. I have read the story of the other twin and that is just as heart rending. I will literally buy anything this author writes without even reading the blurb. That is how confident I am that I will love the story. I'm never disappointed.
The story of Troy and Rhoswyn is full of emotion and humour. Troy is a gentle, kind man even though he is a great warrior and quick tempered who tries to come to terms with a terrible tragedy in his life. After meeting and marrying the beautiful Rhoswyn, he battles within himself to make sense of all the new feelings that he has. Rhoswyn is a wonderful character, full of humour and independence and together they make a wonderful couple. But it is also the surrounding characters that give this story its charm. Brother Audric, Lady Sable, The de Wolfe family (his brothers and father). This story is very poignant, sentimental and heartwarming. I think the book is summed up by Brother Audric when he says to Troy 'Helene has no more need for yer heart'. It has everything in it to make it enjoyable. Another triumph from Kathryn Le Veque.
I almost didn’t finish this book because dislike Rhoswyn much in the beginning. But I did finish and I’m glad I did. I loved the hero, Troy from the beginning, as I always love the male characters in KLV books. There is a sadness and anger about him, at least in the beginning, that makes you want to comfort him. Yet he is strong beyond measure. Troy and Rhoswyn are forced to marry after Troy loses a fight to her. Either of them want to marry. But Troy in his kindness to Rhoswyn despite her behavior, wins her over in the very beginning. I felt like this book was on the verge of “action” like we normally see in other KLV books, but it never got there. Still it was a sweet story. Still waiting for Troy and his twin to reunite. I hope it is coming soon.
Another fantastic read in de Wolfe Saga. This one has it all, from tragedy to triumph! When Troy is sent to storm a Castle in Scotland, he doesn't expect to be challenged and then to marry the "warrior" that bested him. Troy and Rhoswyn are just perfect. I enjoy a story that allows the Heroine to be strong and fearless-DARKWOLFE allows this and more. The heartbreaking loss of his wife, children and the desertion of his brother, Scott, were treated with such tenderness. The sadness that was felt by Paris over the marriage of Troy to Rhoswyn was palpable-enough to shed a few tears. The best part of the story, the growth of both the Hero and Heroine, In Life and In Love.
A new tale in the always brilliant de Wolfe pack world. The eldest son of William has barely survived the pain and tragedy of losing his wife and children. Two years has in no way lessened that pain. Being forced to unwillingly wed the daughter of a Scottish enemy doesn't seem like a good start to future peace. Especially as the bride is no more willing than him, and trained as s warrior to boot. But. They may both find more than they expected if they can let old ghosts go rest in peace. Welcome to the next generation of the de Wolfe pack. But don't worry.......plenty of old friends are woven in too.
Warrior woman badass knight it does not get any better than this. KLV has done it again as she has so so many times. I have read this book multiple times as I love the de Wolfe pack books by KLV but I never left a review but I am now. I have read all of klv's books most of them multiple times because one I love medieval romance and two she brings you right into the books with her writing like you are standing just off to the side watching it all take place. I started reading medieval romance with Hannah Howell Lindsey Sands etc but KLV has become my go to for medieval romance.
Excellent story written written by Katheryn Le Veque. This is a story that you don’t want to put down! This is Troy’s story and it is great one. Troy is leading his father’s men and several other men to stop some renegade men from attacking his people. Raised by her dad Rhoswyn could fight as good as her fathers men.. Troy and the best from Scotland. are going to have to fight! Winner will set the prize. I think that you would enjoy reading the story so much happens!
