Fenris and Mia's story continues in the second book of this Baine Chronicles spinoff trilogy...
Now that Fenris and Mina have finally admitted their feelings for each other, for the first time, they both face something they’d thought impossible—settling down with someone who accepts and loves them for who they are.
But the future is not so certain, particularly when Mina gets a letter in the mail that her inheritance is about to be forfeit. Suddenly, she must confront the shadows of her own past, or lose the inheritance her loving grandmother has left behind to the abusive family members that drove her away in the first place.
Even with Fenris at her side to advise and protect her, wresting Mina’s family fortune back from greedy relatives proves more difficult than expected. Someone is determined to deny Mina’s rights, at any cost. And when Fenris meets an unexpected enemy from his past, things go from difficult to downright dangerous…
*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from the author*
Better than the first installment of this spin-off! I loved that I got to see a little more of Mina and the kind of woman she was. With all the crazy stuff happening to prove that she is who she says she is, it's one suspenseful chapter after another, partnered with a very cute, romantic aspect of the story as she and Fenris get a little closer. While this is Fenris's story, I still personally think this book was for Mina, to show you the kind of life her's had been like before Fenris came into her life. I enjoyed seeing Iannis and Sunaya in here for the brief time they appeared, it really solidified Fenris's feelings about missing his family. It was exciting, introduced more mage-life, and overall left me feeling pretty good. I can't wait for the final installment.
Claimed by Magic is the continuing story of Fenris and Mina. They are still trying to recover Mina's identity and inheritance while trying to get justice for Mina's past. Mina's journey is fraught with perils and roadblocks but with Fenris' support and love, she battles through. These are characters that are easy to love and you feel for them through the entirety of the story.
The characters that Jasmine has created continue to grow and develop and the personalities of all of the characters are well rounded and completely believable. The story flows smoothly and is easy to follow.
I was completely absorbed in this tale and did not want to put it down for any reason. I can't wait for more from Jasmine Walt!
Fenris and Mina are start to get used to their feeling for each other when she receive a letter telling her that her inheritance is about to be forfeit unless she goes back to confront the reasons she left in the first place. Can Fenris at her side helping her be enough to get it back from her family - especially when he meets someone dangerous from his past?
Lots of drama, danger and excitement in this continuation of the trilogy. Well written as I would expect from this author, and I could empathise and feel all the emotions involved in this complex tale.
Absolutely loved Fenris' story. I was sad that he wasn't in solantha which was his home and where his friends were but was very happy that he met someone of his own and absolutely love Mina she is a wonderful character and just the type of person I imagined him needing! I can't wait for the next book to see what all the 2 of them get into together after him helping her with her inheritance problem.I will be highly recommending this book!
I didn't realize books 2 & 3 were already out. This continues the spin off of the Baine Chronicles. This one had a bit more erotic content than the first one. The story was good, and I really like these characters. I like Fenris better in this series than I liked him in the original.
A wonderful second book in Fenris' continuing story! I have read and enjoyed every book in both the origin so Baine Chronicles and in this spin off. Fenris is such an enjoyable character to read and I am loving Mina and their burgeoning relationship. If you enjoy magic, shifters, intrigue, and little romance, you will love all of Jasmine Walt's books!
This was an absolutely fabulous read!! It is a rare author that can take an idea and turn it into a story that comes to life, in such a way that it seems as if you are right there in the midst of the adventures with Mina and Fenris. I loved the direction the story took, and cheered for them the entire time!! I loved the book, and can't wait to see if they have any further adventures!
While I like the Baine series, this book lacked depth, hence the rating.
SPOILERS
1) Two mages come into a small town to find Marris and head to his home to look for him after talking to the sheriff. It may not have said this directly but any investigator worth anything would start investigation at the person's home. Fenris was able to talk with the sheriff, get to Marris' house before the mages, have dialogue with his family, and still get him to safety before they could get there.
2) Why were the mages after Marris? WTF happened to the mages that were looking for him? The book just says that they were looking for him but then this part of the book is just left wide open. Why did they disappear? Why don't we know this information?
3) A villain is introduced that likes to use animals to spy on others. A cat is seen at the murder attempt but nothing came of this. The main characters had sex three or four times with the windows open and they make out at the beach but no one questions who this person is, even when they state in the book they believe the main character may be coerced by someone. In addition, they talk out loud about him being Fenris(not the old man), his past, and about Abbsville and not one time did the villain get to use her one super power that the author introduced to us to use this information. Why introduce the villain as having this ability if you don't use it?
4) The villain had doubts about Fenris being legitimate but didn't even question who he was during the hearing when there was a truth wand ? In the book it says she suspects him of not being who he says he is. She's supposed to be so smart that she almost got him executed in his backstory but wasn't smart enough to have the chief mage question the same person who's having her questioned to try to turn it around, even after saying she has doubts?
5) In the previous book, the mages could tell easily when someone was wearing a different guise. Yet in this book, at a mage hearing, no one questions Fenris' guise as an old man? These mages weren't smart enough to do that?
This book forces the reader to digest things that never would have happened in the Sunaya series and makes it a very hard read.
Enemies – both old and new – seek to destroy Fenris’s and Mina’s happiness in this second book of Jasmine Walt’s trilogy of The Baine Chronicles: Fenris Story. Fenris and Mina travel to Haralis in Innarta, Mina’s former home, to reclaim her identity and inheritance. Despite the efforts of Fenris’s old enemy, the corrupt Finance Secretary Gelisia Dorax, assassination attempts, and threats from Mina’s cousin Vanley, the pair eventually triumph.
Readers first encounter Gelisia in Fenris’s origin story, Forsaken by Magic. By Fenris doing the right thing in saving a young girl from execution, Gelisia paints a target on his back that results in him fleeing for his life. Through his dear friend, Chief Mage Iannis ar’Sannin, Polar ar’Tollis is transformed from his identity as Chief Mage of Nebara to the wolf shifter Fenris. It is this secret that threatens Fenris’s existence, as well as Mina and Fenris’s friends, Iannis and his fiancé, Sunaya Baine of Solantha.
Through Fenris’s intercession, the Chief Mage of Innarta uncovers Gelisia’s machinations to discredit Mina and enrich herself in the process. The Chief Mage is also informed of suspicions that the trustee of Mina’s estate is involved in the assassination attempts.
During these events, Fenris and Mina express their love for one another and begin to make plans as a couple. Overshadowing their happiness upon their return to Abbsville is the discovery that Marris, friend and neighbor to Mina and Fenris, has reconnected to the Resistance, a major enemy throughout The Baine Chronicles. Marris has knowledge that the Resistance is targeting Solantha for a strike against mages and the Federation Minister. Naturally this concerns Fenris greatly, and he is torn about how to handle this frightening threat to his friends.
Join Fenris and Mina on their voyage of discovery – Mina’s growing confidence, Fenris’s calm influence and increasing joy in his love for Mina, and the influence of friends and enemies on their life together. Readers will once again find themselves immersed in the adventures of these two characters and the magical world in which they live!
Jasmine Walt’s latest story in the Baine Chronicles continues to follow Fenris and Mina’s journey as they strive to seek to recover Mina’s identity and inheritance as well as see justice for her past. Both are still hiding their magical gifts from friends and the bond between them only strengthens as Mina learns more about her gifts.
This book takes the couple back to Mina’s home town where she learns what happened after she left and reconnects with old friends, as well as old enemies. Fenris also finds himself facing a familiar foe, this time one who could potentially endanger Mina’s future. They both have to work together to regain what is rightfully hers and protect her from all those who endanger her.
The second book in this story leads away from the small town where the two of them have settled and brings it back to an urban setting populated by mages, this leads to us seeing more of the politics and the underhandedness that Fenris has previously faced in his life as a full blooded mage. Due to this Mina gets a feel for Fenris’s past ever as she reconnects with her own.
In Claimed by Magic we see the relationship between the two continue to blossom as they learn more about each other's past. We see Mina’s character grow as she confronts her past and she becomes stronger for it, becoming more confident and certain of what she wants out of life. Fenris also lets his guard down, allowing him to go after what he truly wants. An awesome read that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy, as well as curious for more.
Living as a mage undercover, disguised as human or shifter, is dangerous, when you have so much to lose. Mina and Fenris are now happily together, thinking about a future together, when they come across a very unpleasant discovery - the family that was supposed to take care of Mina but forced her to run away instead, is now trying to get a hold on her inheritance and spent the wealth that is rightfully hers. Being out of sight for nearly 13 years, she is coming close to the line when she could be officially proclaimed dead. That forces Mina to abandon her safe haver, reclaim her true name and family legacy, and fight for her rights and heritage. But the way to prove her claim is not easy, and Mina's life is in danger. And so is Fenris's secret. If you have read the Baine chronicles and found it adventurous, Fenris's backstory won't disappoint you either. Although his personality influences the plot in a more peaceful, logical, cautious way, you don't have to be afraid of boredom. Life brings many unexpected situations and what these two are forced to face and fight brings the reader on the edge, cheering them and wishing them luck (at least, I certainly did). Machinations and betrayal are already a common part of their life, and with friends like Marris and Barrla, or even Sunaya and Iannis, adventure is never far. Great fast read, with the distinctive mark of Jasmine's brilliant writing, flowing easily to the reader. I am looking forward to the next book. I read an ARC of the book and all opinions are my own.
I continue to love this series, and this second book is an excellent addition: well-written, interesting storyline, and great characters. We are moving along quickly in the story arc, I am both sad and happy I can see the end coming. I really like this author, and one thing I’ve noticed is how versatile she is. Case in point, I love how different these books are from the Sunaya books. Mia and Fenris have a deep love, but they are quietly passionate, and in this installment, they have taken their love to the next level amid the chaos of trying to get Mia’s inheritance back. Mia is so different than Sunaya, and Ms. Walt is an excellent storyteller in how she does two completely different characters so well. Also, I really enjoy the way Fenris tries to take care of everyone around him, as you’ll find out in this book. This book was wonderful and if you are a fan of this series, you will love this one. If you haven’t read this series before, start with the Baine Chronicles series and work your way to this one! Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I generously received a digital galley of this book in exchange for an honest review. I'm so, so, so excited that Fenris has his own spin off story and that he's doing well despite no longer being in Solantha. In this story, Fenris takes a journey with his girlfriend Mina who has been hiding among humans for the last decade or so as a veterinarian though she is actually a mage from a prestigious family. She fled her home over ten years ago due to her terrible relatives and decides to return to claim her inheritance thirteen years later before it's sold off or given to her relatives. Fenris and Mina are certainly in for some surprises once they reach her hometown and several of them are not pleasant. It will take cunning, a certain strong shifter nose, magic and unlikely allies to hopefully obtain Mina's inheritance before it's squandered or someone tries to do away with Mina. Full of adventure, mystery, magic, a few steamy scenes and a healthy dash of steampunk, this book was hard to put down. I'm so very happy how things turned out and so very excited about Mina and Fenris!!!
Jasmine has a vision and a power to keep you captivated. Fernis' second book is no different. The fact that it shows the passion it does says it all. Fenris and Mina are a match made in heaven. They complete each other so completely that their lives will forever be changed.
The passion, caring, respect, and the emotions each feels for the other goes beyond even what the characters had expected to ever find let alone the audience.
It is the perfect book to add to the first. Adding to it it's own risks but still shows the courage of the characters will surpass even their images of themselves.
Thank you Jasmine for another wonderfully written book. It brought with it love, joy, excitement, fear, and anticipation. I can not wait for the next book from you. No matter the story I'm sure it will bring with it the excitement, joy, love, and courage of all your books.

Claimed by Magic is book two in the Baine Chronicles book series, a spin off from Jasmine Walt's ever popular series. I love this new series. The first novella and then book were great insight to the character of Fenris, who fled the capital city and began his life as a shifter in hiding.
This new book is a great addition to the series. I love the pace of this life he's leading now, in the small town he has chosen to live in hiding in. In this book, Mina and Fenris head out on an adventure to reclaim Mina's inheritance and title which she feld from years ago. There are good twists, and good plot and, well, good romance between the two. Along the way, we also have crossover characters - something I always love.
If you have enjoyed any of the previous By Magic books, you'll be sure to love this one. Sweet, adventure, mystery all combine to make one great follow up!
I received a cooy of the ARC for my honest review. Claimed by Magic is the second book in Fenris' world and it is definitely better than the first. While this book focuses more on Mina and her finally facing her past, you also get to see both Fenris and Mina grow as a couple. Mina comes into her own with her magic.
Loved how she was able to stand on her own two feet. There are unexpected surprises for both Mina and Fenris but they also have friends in unexpected places. It closes a chapter in the past but there are so many great promises for their future together. If you read the first book, you will definitely want to pick this up!
Received the book as an ARC from the author. I have read almost everything written by her. I met the main character Fenris in the Baine Chronicles, where I follow the adventures of Sunaya and Iannis. This is Fenris' story after he has left them and has embarked on his life. Fenris is a shifter with mage' magic.Fenris continues his budding relationship with Mina, the local veterinarian. Discovering her family is wanting to declare Mina dead to get her inheritance, Fenris and Mina journey to her hometown, Haralis. Read the story and discover what problems they encounter.
Oh I'm so enraptured with Fenris and Mina! The intrigue, the romance and certain creepazoid Finance Ministers getting their comeuppance, well that was quite satisfying to say the least. Oh my and the lovely spell on Vanley, the nasty, lying hugger! Well now I have to wait again but looking forward to the excitement of the final book. It will be bittersweet but I know Jasmine Walt will give us all a delightful conclusion that will keep us running to read all these stories again and again!
Another fabulous installment to Mina and Fenris story. I love how Ms walts stories never become old or stale. The stories are always fresh, new and exciting. The writing is top notch and has a unique style that is totally owned by Jasmine. A true engaging read that grabs you from page one. Loved it.
Really enjoy this series and the Baine Chronicles too. So glad Fenris has found love and Mina is everything he needs. Of course Mina's had her own struggles which Fenris has helped her put to rest. In short, they are perfect for one another. So looking forward to the next one.
I absolutely love reading about fenris and mina. I am so glad they came out on top in this book and managed to put away the evil from fenris's past. Could not put this book down!!! Can't wait to read about their trip to solantha when mina will finally meet iannis and sunnaya. Highly recommended.
Fenris and Mina try to outrun their past mistakes. Can they work together to save their selves. Will their past ruin them. I love Fenris and Mina. I love their personalities and spunk. A must read.
Once again Jasmine has given a well written and phenomenal story! It is so exciting to watch Fenris come into his own finally! The story line flows well from the first book and the characters are fantastic. Cannot wait for the next one. A must read!
This second book of Fenris' story is so good. Its a great continuation from the first book. I can't wait for the next book to see if Fenris' story hooks back up with Sunaya and Iannis' story. I'm so excited and can hardly wait!
Magic, mages and shifters, what more could you want? Love of coarse, Mia's and Fenris will never be dull. Continuing storyline, soon to end. Love reading these books! Good storyline, strong characters.
This story is so worth reading. I love the character of Fenris. I have enjoyed reading about him and the life he is creating. This spin-off series is really good and I can't wait to read the next book in the series
Fenris finally is getting on with his life. I am so happy for him and Mina. A great book and storyline. Danger still lurks but together they can overcome anything. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Action packed, Romance packed, Comedy packed! This Second book of the series has it all, just like the first! I can hardly wait for the final book! Jasmine is an amazing author, I haven't read a bad story from her, ever!
Loved seeing justice served. I really enjoyed the action and plot, but my favorite part is how sweet Mina and Fenris are to each other. I look forward to seeing how it turns out.
