han·gry /haNGɡrē/ adjective informal bad-tempered or irritable as a result of hunger. "I get very hangry if I miss a meal"
From USA Today bestselling author Lily Kate comes a brand new series...
Ladies & Gents,
I sold my soul for a hamburger.
And I have no regrets. When a girl is trapped indefinitely in an elevator with a smoking hot burger and an empty stomach, even the strongest of women will crumble.
The story goes like this: Bradley Hamilton, former professional hockey player and the most frustrating human alive, offered me half of his hamburger in exchange for a date. I took him up on the offer—while under duress—and now I’m stuck with the consequences. Specifically, the scorching kiss that has me drooling for more.
However, there’s one whopper of a problem. This man has been a thorn in my side for the last twenty years—ever since he moved next door and became my older brother’s best friend. We’ve gone head to head for years, and now, he’s trying to buy out my restaurant in order to plop one of his big fat gyms there instead.
I refuse to let him ruin my business. Unfortunately, Bradley Hamilton is like an order of french fries: you just can’t have one. It appears our lips are addicted to kissing. He’s alarmingly handsome. Deliciously confident. And worst of all? Underneath that salty exterior he’s starting to show signs of sweet.
Brad Hamilton is my guilty pleasure, my cheat meal, my greatest craving.
Which is why he’ll be one habit that’s hard to kick.

This is a full-length, standalone romantic comedy with an HEA. It is intended for audiences 18+ due to mature content including romance, language, and ridiculously fun times.
Lily Kate works a pretttttty boring day job and writes books filled with heat, heart, and humor by night. When she’s not writing books, you may find her watching Christmas movies before Thanksgiving, eating whipped cream from the can, or hanging out with her family.
This book was well written and I liked the premise of it. I didn't have any big issues with anything but for some reason I just couldn't connect to these characters and their story. Other than my one complaint of not fully understanding the fall out Bradley had with Lexi's brother there wasn't anything else that stuck out to me and made me not like the story. Yet I found myself skimming over parts just to get through it. I think this is just one of those unexplained things that for whatever reason my mind wasn't jumping into the story this author created.
I'll definitely be giving this author another try though and I actually hope we'll get to see these characters again in future books.
Nope. Does not work with me. This is new adult romance story. The idea of the story is simple. Second chance in love. The Hero and the heroine lost their connection due to heroine's brother. Then one day they reconnect in the elevator over a hamburger.
The story stay shallow. The plot is not being explore in depth. Secondary character is also lack of involvement.
I think the only thing that i am very interested in this book is: the hamburger.
We've all been there, right? That moment where rational thought leaves us abandoned with absurd behavior and diarrhea of the mouth? We call it being "Hangry". I too am a victim. Welcome to the club.
Lexi Monroe is no stranger to being a victim of hangriness. It's in the moment of being trapped in an elevator with her ex-best friend, ex eye of her affection, that her brain and her mouth become detached from one another. Bradley Hamilton and her were best friends, something that could've been more, but Lexi decided would never be.
To say I have unresolved feelings for Bradley Hamilton would be an understatement.
They haven't spoken to one another, despite being neighbors, for 3 years.
Three. Long. Years.
During those 3 years Lexi's feelings turned from disappointment to slight anger. Brad's only turned more forlorn.
Bradley, to my surprise, doesn't look at all distraught that the elevator is firmly planted between floors.
Brad has found his chance, the opportunity to finally make amends between him and Lexi. But Lexi's hanger takes over, and in her fit of muddled thinking, agreed to the unthinkable….a date.
I'm floored. Flabbergasted, maybe. I'd expected many things, but I'd not expected a date to be laid on the table. If I'd had to guess, I would've expected him to make me wash his car, clean his apartment, or deliver him food for a month. Anything but a date.
One of the reasons I enjoy reading Lily's books is because the characters are truly adorable, innocent and sweet. This is no different for Lexi and Brad. Their friendship starts to blossom once again, but this time Lexi is ready for the next step. She actually wants that date, needs it, because it's what she's always been wanting from him.
The best part of a second chance romance is getting a glimpse of the first chance. I really feel like starting this book off with a flashback to when these two first met, or even their PROM night would've been a great way to open up their story. Flashbacks help us connect with what the characters went through, where they came from. I feel like if Lily would've added a little more insight to their past this way, I would've been able to connect better with these two.
My absolute favorite part of this book is their first date. Truly romantic and gives you all the feels!
This isn't our first date. Maybe on paper it is, but without knowing it, I've had my sights set on you our whole life.
Ahh, the good stuff, right?
I was excited to see an element of suspense in this one. I was expecting it, but would've enjoyed a little more detail, or plotting to solidify the story. I really enjoyed how everything fell into place though.
Overall, I would say that this is my second favorite book of Lily's, behind Delivery Girl . I really hope that we get to see books for Sasha and Kitty. I would love to see Lexi's brother try to tame Kitty into domestication!
ARC kindly provided in exchanged for an honest review.
This is my second Lily Kate book and I loved this just as much as the first one I read. It was funny and quirky and romantic and had enough serious moments in it too.
I really liked both Lexi and Bradley, our two main characters. They were both relatable and I quickly fell into step with them. Lexi's friends were also really funny and I loved how they always had her back.
Bradley was so damned adorable. I liked how things moved quickly yet also slowly for he and Lexi. Knowing each other for so long but never admitting to your feelings and is huge. I felt like things were dealt with maturely in this book and also theres no huge amount of drawn out angst. Any problems that arise are argued out or dealt with straight away and didn't make me sit there reading with my heart in my mouth.
Also, the epilogue was perfect. Hilarious and sexy and all round just right. This book was just lots of fun!
I'll definitely be keen to continue this series and would definitely recommend.
Hangry is the best Lily Kate novel yet! It was heartwarming, hilarious and hunger inducing!
"Food is more than my hobby, it's my life. My deepest desire. My vice. My lover..."
What do you do when you are hangry, stuck in an elevator with your hot former best friend and he is holding a hamburger ransom for a date? Obviously you agree to the date and get your hamburger! What seems like a relatively easy and quick romance between Brad and Lexi turns messy really quick.
Brad was so sweet and sensitive and thoughtful and caring and any woman would be lucky to have him, but Lexi is his perfect match. When they finally discover that they have each had been in love with each other since they were kids, the romance and swoony moments have really been kicked up a notch!
"I'd been happy before, my world had been sunny. Add in Bradley Hamilton, and my universe sparkles."
OH MY GOSH! Y'all this book! *sigh* It's a brothers former best friend/ friends to enemies to lovers story and I just freaking loved it. I just the right amount of drama thrown in. Lexi and Bradly loved to argue and I really enjoyed their bantering, they felt more real to me because of it.
If you are looking for fun a flirty romantic comedy, Hangry is the perfect book for you.
Hangry is the first book in a new series by Lily Kate. Although she has a few books out, this was my introduction to this author. Hangry follows Bradley Hamilton and Lexi Monroe. The two have known each other for 20 years but haven't really spoken for the last 3 years until they get stuck in an elevator together. They make a deal to go on a date together and the story takes off from there.
Before getting into my opinion, I think the synopsis gives away too much information and is a bit misleading. I felt the synopsis basically gave an outline of the story so I wasn't surprised by most of the events that happened. It was also misleading because certain events were exaggerated or they didn't happen as they were stated in the synopsis. Going into this book, I thought Hangry was an enemies-to-lovers story but it wasn't that kind of story. If possible I would know go into this novel knowing as little as possible, I think it would make the read a lot more enjoyable if you do.
Despite those things, I still think this was a decent storyline. After enemies-to-lovers, life long friends realizing that maybe they love each other is one of my favorite things to read about in contemporary romance novels. While frustrated with them at times, I found myself hoping the main characters worked through their issue and were able to be happy together. Since Lexi and Bradley have so much history, everything else would be worth it in the end. I can see this being a story lots of people enjoy but this one was missing some things for me. I want to check out more from this author in the future.
What would you sell your soul for? What would you do if you were dying of hunger and someone offered you food in exchange for something? Would you accept it? For Minnie, when she ended up stuck in an elevator with Brad whom up to three years ago was a very close family friend - he had a burger, she was hangry so what did she sell for the burger? A date with Brad. Growing up Minnie had a major crush on Brad but was under the impression he just saw her his friend's little sister. One thing leads to another with Minnie and Brad and after a lot of back and fro'ing between the pair of them and the encouragement of her best friends Sasha and Kitty the pair finally get together and work out those feelings of repressed love. What will happen though when Brad's partner Leo wants to get back at Brad and sets up a meeting to buy Minnie's Diner as he wants to tear it down and build a gym. Will Minnie feel that Brad is part of this deal and feel betrayed? Will this be the end of their starting relationship? Hangry was a good romance, but I have to admit I had hoped to enjoy it more than I did as the main characters of Hangry played their relationship the way I hate. The whole no communication thing, going behind each other's backs and pussyfooting with their feelings. It's like seriously if you love each other then be there for one another and more importantly - communicate and let the other person know what's happening in their lives. This happens to be one of my pet hates in books. Overall, if you are looking for a romance read, then check out Hangry by Lily Kate and think about what you would give up for food?
A quick, fun read, Hangry is a story every woman can relate to. That would be selling your soul for a delicious hamburger. Leci and her brother's former best friend, Bradley get trapped in an elevator together. They've barely spoken in years.
Brad can't help but take the opportunity to attempt to mend fences, and with the help of that hamburger, he takes his chance. From there, Hangry is a lovely story of forgiveness, friendship and trust. The friendships were strong and relatable. Lexi and Bradley had a ton of chemistry, and it was easy to root for them. The secondary characters were great, and intrigued me to hoping we get to see their HEA's!
I would recommend to the reader looking for a light hearted rom-com.

this is a second chance romance and it was so heartwarming, hilarious and the characters were really likable although I didn't really connect with any of them on a deeper level, nevertheless, I really enjoyed the story! I liked the concept but there were aspects of the story that could've been better, specially the business aspect of it, the confrontations and discussions just fell flat.
I loved the premise, but it just fell so flat. I just think most romance books I read have the same characters over and over again the tension just isn't well-written. I need to just give up on these.
I really liked the Hangry concept. We've all been there and absolutely willing to do some pretty questionable things for food.
But I feel like this book took forever to get to any point. When it made progress between the two main characters, it regressed to "I don't know if it'll work" conversations with their friends. Three steps forward, two steps back kind of stuff.
I did like their story. I enjoyed their history and reconnection. I liked all of the secondary characters even though it felt like they got more of limelight than the hero.
I didn't care for the resolution between the hero and his business partner which was a serious let down. The build up for the confrontation between then was so great and then totally flat. I know the story wasn't about them but dang I was disappointed.
And the resolution with her business was ... kind of out of left field.
Anyway, I don't know. I liked it but I didn't but I did, you know?
This book, these characters ~ specifically Lexi and Brad ~ drove me up the wall and yet I never felt that urge to toss my Kindle into the freezer. I was sucked in from the beginning and actually enjoyed the many ups and downs of the story as a whole, even when it felt like my eyes would fall out of my head because of all the rolling they were doing. Hangry is a sweet, smexy and frustrating ride, but filled with a lot of laughter and heart.
Even though Brad and Lexi drove me batshit crazy throughout the entire book, I couldn’t help but really like them when they weren’t pushing me to the edge of insanity. Brad is that person who has a good heart and isn’t afraid of working hard, but he’s also one that tends to overthink things when he should take action, but when he does take action he goes all in and is a force to be reckoned with. Lexi is that girl with a good and generous heart, at times too generous and that gets her into a bit a trouble. She also has a tendency to simply react without thinking things through (aka overreact) and toes the line into spastic-ville. Thankfully she isn’t so stubborn that she won’t listen to others, admit that another path taken may have been and own up to her actions.
Here’s where things are going to get murky. There is a lot more going on between Lexi and Brad than stated in the description, that stuff is just part of quicksand they need to work through to get to their HEA, and while it did make for a lot of crazy (especially when that crazy could have been resolved with a simple conversation), it actually made them as a couple take things slowly---ish and I really enjoyed it. The slow pace helped to not only up the sexual tension, but showed why they fit each other so well.
This was a fun, crazy and well written first in series book. It was easy to get lost in and hard to put down. And as much as I enjoyed watching Lexi and Brad’s story unfold, I loved meeting the rest of the characters that surrounded them, Kitty and Sasha were definitely my favorites and considering the title of the series I cannot wait to get to know them better!

**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: https://bookbriefs.net**Hangry is a contemporary romantic comedy by author Lily Kate. I thoroughly enjoyed Hangry. For those of you that don't know, Hangry is a word to describe people that get angry or irritable when they are hungry. It is just as hilarious as the title and summary lead you to believe that it is. This book had me laughing pretty much non-stop from beginning to end. If you are looking for a book that is a flat out good time, give Hangry a try. I can't wait to read more novels from Lily Kate.
Hangry is a romance as well. It is the story of Lexi and Bradley. Lexi cannot stand Bradley, but when she gets so hangry she can't stand it anymore she "sells her soul" for a hamburger. (Seriously, just thinking about this book has me grinning like a fool.) Lexi and Bradley are hilarious together. There is tons of URST, and the chemistry between the two of them is off the charts!
Whatever you do, don't write this book off as something silly. Yes, the humor is present throughout and yes, the book is funny as heck, but the romance is full of heart and all the warm fuzzies. I think Hangry is the perfect book for anyone that loves a great romance with a healthy dose of humor. The characters are fantastic as well. I think Hangry would be great for fans of Nicole Archer and Penny Reid. I really loved this book. It was a great time from the first page until the last.
This was my first time reading this author, and I liked her voice. It was smooth and easy.
Unfortunately, not much else worked for me. The characters weren't that developed, the plot was flat, and the story seriously dragged. As in, nothing happened for the first half of the book. My attention kept drifting because I couldn't stay engaged. But I, being the stubborn woman I am, refused to quit. Instead, I skimmed the last fifty percent, which honestly wasn't the best choice.
Lexi was feisty, but both she and Brad came off as much younger than late twenties. I didn't really believe she was a business owner. There was no mention of the mundane tasks a business owner would need to do, which would have made this more believable. Instead, she just seems to float through life on assumptions and hopes. Where are her flaws? The real ones, not the fake anger.
As for Brad, he had the unfortunate obstacle of reminding me of that insurance commercial where the girl talks about how she loved her totaled car named Brad. When I got past that, I was faced with a guy who was almost too nice and for sure apologized too much. Dude needed a backbone, and when it finally showed up, it was a mediocre appearance.
Look, I get that romances will have the same basic plot. I don't have a problem with that because it's the details that will make each one different. Unfortunately, Hangry was missing a lot of those details. It sort of just glossed over any drama or tension. And while some people are happy with a fluffy, feel good book with perfect characters, I guess I'm not one of them. There was so much potential, but the execution was disappointing.
How would you feel if you were stuck in an elevator and couldn't help but sell your soul for a hamburger from a sexy man? Just for a date with him? And you had history with this guy? Would you do it anyway?
Well Lexi Monroe was beyond Hangry, stuck in an elevator and had no choice if she wanted to make it out of the elevator alive instead of passed out on the floor. You know the feeling you get when you are starving and have had no time to eat. You get moody, and cant help but do whatever it takes to get food in your stomach. That is exactly how Lexi got into the position of saying she would go on a date with her brothers ex-best friend.
Not only was he her brothers best friend but they haven't spoken in three years after her brother and Bradley Hamilton had a huge blow up fight. Right after he blew his knee out and wasn't able to continue playing professional hockey. But that doesn't mean that he hasn't thought of her every day especially since they live right next door to each other. His feelings for her never stopped even though they haven't spoken.
Disclaimer: Thank you so much to InkSlinger PR and Lily Kate for the early review copy in exchange for my honest review! All opinions are my own!
Depends on the hamburger ...but I think if I was hungry or hangry enough I would so sale my shoe, not sure I would sale my soul? That sounds terrible??! ...but if a hamburger was done up just right, all the right mustard, lettuce, great onion, a tomato if the it is a good delicious one??! some pickles, some fries on the side, wait, is it okay to want a delicious hamburger for breakfast??! Wait, I have never even had pizza for breakfast, nuts!! I am so hangry now!! lol!! I would so yes, please, but it so has to be my way, or I would really really have to be so hangry to eat a hamburger some one else's way??! right???!. I love humor ...laughter, being silly, laughing while reading is the best. I loved this read. If you can get me too tears while reading, happy tears, totally!! ...that happened several times throughout this read. No, she didn't?? Yep, she went there and so beyond. Makes ya think??! I have promoted Lily on my book blog several times & so glad I finally got around to reading one of her books. Such a great, fun, quick, sexy read for me. Couldn't put it down. From the beginning to the end I had to know where Lily would take us. Such a wild fun ride! Must read, check this beauty out! ( ;
I'm so glad that I read this book. It's one that had me laughing throughout the whole book. One of my favorite things about the book was the humor. It also has one of my favorite troupes best friend's little sister. Brad and Lexi have a lot of history and in this book they get a second chance. Only if Brad doesn't mess it up. I loved Brad and Lexi. The author written them so well. I could instantly feel the connection and chemistry between the two. This book also has a great cast of secondary characters that grabbed me as well. This book has it all, humor, heat, heart, and drama. It's a great combination for a well rounded book that kept me glued to the story.
Hangry by: Lily Kate This is the first book in The Girls Series. Lily Kate did it again with Hangry, I was giggling and laughing throughout this book. I loved Lexi Monroe, Lily made her the perfect character for this story and Bradley Hamilton makes this book amazing. I loved this Rom-Com book! I cannot wait for more from Lily Kate, like her previous series Minnesota Ice, this book is making this a must-read series for me and it’s just beginning! I was sucked into the story from the first chapter never being able to put it down for long, the way Lily Kate has put the characters together makes this one addicting book. She will have you laughing from the beginning to end of this book.
Fun romantic comedy about a second chance at love for childhood friends / best friend’s sister
Hangry is a fun romantic comedy about a second chance at love for childhood friends and also mixes a best friend’s sister theme. The book has a good mix of humour, vulnerability, heat, and heart in this well written and steadily paced romance. The story is mostly light hearted with just a little bit of drama to keep things intriguing from start to finish.
Told from dual perspective, Lexi and Brad have a sizzling chemistry that starts off being a little bit hate/love. As the book simmers along, at a very nice steady pace I must add, both characters were very likeable and I liked how the author didn’t just brush away the issues between them, given their previous history, and built things up with the characters once again to show the strong connection they have in the present. Be warned, at times, the heat these two generate when together burns off the pages. There were some really likeable secondary characters who added an extra fun dimension to the book for some humorous moments and helped showcase Lexi and Brad further.
If you are looking for a sexy friends to lovers romantic comedy, definitely give this a read!
*I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
I liked this one. The main female character is just the right combination of strong and flirty. I likethat the hero is just gone for her from the beginning. You never wonder what he’s thinking or wanting, you know he wants her. It’s fun to read how they get there and see them get their happy ending.
Lily Kate has become a go to author for me! We meet Bradley when he's stuck in an elevator with Lexi and he convinces her to go on a date with him by sharing his burger with her because she's starving....Hangry!! It's a fun book, not my favorite by Lily but it has great moments. Lexi is a great character and Bradley definitely has his moments. They were friends from the time they were kids and Brad moved in next door to Lexi and her family. It was Lexi, Brad and Lexi's brother Lucas - a three pack of friends. They grew up super close. Brad and Lucas went on to become professional hockey players. They even played for the same team. But then Brad sustained a career ending injury and something happened....the friendships were gone. Strangely enough Brad lives across the hall from Lexi..... This book is the story of Brad and Lexi forming a new kind of relationship. 3.5 Stars
Nope. I tried. Can’t do it. Made it halfway, then stopped. Hunky jock (retired hocker player) and sweet young thing (who happens to be the younger sister of jock’s former BFF, also a hockey player. There is a scene early on, where the heroine and hero are forced into conversation after three years of ignoring each other. The scene could have been so good - chemistry, banter, etc. The scene felt flat. I didn’t feel the connection. He runs hot and cold with her. I’m sure it all resolves, but I didn’t hang in long enough to hear it.
Had SO much potential... Bug it dragged so much in areas & the h was more a teenager in her mindset then a buisness owner. The H was great but needed a lil more alpha backbone exp with his buisness partner.
