Falling for a Rose #3

Only If You Dare

Rate this book
Life at the Houston Report for Investigative Journalist Desiree Stevens is no longer a fulfilling one. She’s contemplating moving back to Chicago where her family resides, but Desiree can’t deny that returning to her hometown for the sake of employment is her only reason. Just a few weeks prior, Desiree had the pleasure of meeting philanthropist Julian Alexander Rose, awkwardly enough, at the hospital. And since the strange encounter, getting Julian off her mind has been Desiree’s biggest failure. International male model, Julian Alexander Rose is in the highlight of his career. As the owner of A Few Good Men Male Modeling Agency, Julian has his hands full with day-to-day business activities. He’s only in Chicago for a short while upon meeting Desiree Steven's, and the unbridled hunger that overtakes Julian is soul-stirring at least. From the moment their worlds collide, Julian’s certain there’s more to their supernatural connection. Being a man unwilling to let Desiree get away, Julian formulates the perfect plan that lands them alone together, and his next move may just bring him to his knees. The Falling for a Rose series follows each member of the Rose family as they explore this thing called love. However, each book is just as enjoyable if read as a standalone as it is if read in the series order.

Another book down in the Fall For a Rose series. These books do have a tendency to be a bit formulaic which makes them slightly predictable, but for the most part I do enjoy them.

Only If You Darefollows the romance between Desiree and Julian. Desiree is the older sister of Claudia who we get to see in book two of the series. Desiree is thinking about returning back to Chicago as a journalist when she gets the opportunity to work closely with Julian on one of his projects. The two meet in book two so we get to see their original connection there, but you don't have to read that book to enjoy them as characters in this book. It's clear that Desiree and Julian have a lot of chemistry; however, as with a lot of SNN's books in this series and the In the Heart of a Valentine series, our heroine isn't emotionally stable. Desiree is dealing with severe abandonment issues and it affects the potential relationship that she has with Julian. There's great chemistry between the two characters and I like that most of this book took place outside of the US. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the subplots. Because the abandonment issues that Desiree had were so deep rooted, I would have preferred to see her work through those and then deal with someone who was stalking her and her friends as well as the introduction of another model to potentially ruin their relationship. This was an enjoyable read, but it does follow the same pattern as most of the books in these two series.

Desiree was just as bad, if not worse, than Claudia. Her insecurities and constant whining about trust issues with men just wore me out. This was not the Desiree from book one. That Desiree was feisty and had some backbone. I don't know who this chic was. The so called plot twist with Cameron was weird. I'm still trying to figure that out. And, is anyone else wondering why there wasn't a pregnancy at the end of the book?!!! Because, I was definitely expecting one. Only If You Dare is my least favorite book in this series. I hope Santana's story fares better than this one.

"Only If You Dare" by Stephanie Nicole Norris

My Thoughts....

What will happen when Desiree decides to quit her job? Will something happen that causes her to remain on the job? I loved how this author gives the reader one interesting plot for this well told story. Well, when Julian Rose the brother of Jaden Rose decides he wanted Desiree to work for him on a photo project, her life will definitely change. But in what way will this happen for Desiree because she had a hands off policy toward men due to what had happened with her earlier in her life
where she seemed to take out her 'frustrations and pain out on everyone around her' definitely leaving her with a lot of trust issues especially with men. Will Julian be able to help change all of that for Desiree? Well, you will just have to pick up this wonderful love, with some well developed characters, hot love scenes and even a believable read that will keep your interest turning the pages till the end. I did love Desiree's best friend Santana. Wow, to have a friend like her to want to move and start a new life just to be around your best friends...left me still saying WoW!

Julian was definitely another Rose brother to add to that wonderful colorful collection of brothers om this good read! I will say that I may have missed something in the read ... like what was up with that guy that broke into the girls apartments and what was he really up to by doing this to them? Oh well, I still enjoyed the read.

Now, I will be waiting for the next series 'Falling For A Rose Book 4' that deals with Desiree's best friend Santana and another Rose brother...Josiah in "Fever."

Well sad to say so far this is my least favorite of the Rose Series...Julian had it going on...brother was on point in the romancing department. I didn’t like Desiree in the last book with her interaction with her sister Claudia...but then in this one she seemed a bit too WHINY and wish-washy! It was too much going on in this book that made little or no sense IMHO... I struggled to finish this book...hope next book is better.

Only If You Date: (Falling For A Rise Book 3)

Not a favorite book of mine in this series. It took a lot of patience for me to finish reading their story. Being a 🚺 from Chicago, Desiree Stevens could have had more of a backbone. Her character was insecure and whimpy. Not a good look. How Julian 🌹 handled her insecurities was delightful, though.

Looking forward to Santana's story next. Hoping to read something exciting for Josiah.

I was mildly enjoying it, despite the lack of relationship development and plot. But the heavy handed spice in the first 71% of the book, with no development and plot to be found? I’ll pass.

I thought Desiree was going to sabatog the relationship with Julian!!!…
I was excited that Julian knew Desiree was looking for a reason the run Ana he was not having not parts of allowing that to happen!!!…
This was such a sweet, romantic book Ana I love the journey they took to get there!!!…
This book was a clear example of what we sometimes have a tendency to do when we are unhealed and afraid of committing!!!…

Although the storylines in this are beginning to repeat themselves. There were some unexpected occurrences. WHY are the women so skeptical about having real love. I'm so glad Desiree got it together at the end.

The Rose brothers seem to have a formula in their love pursuits. Encounter. Entangle. Intention. Forever. Not terrible, but predictable. I’ll probably finish the series, but at this point, I think I’ve got the story line down for the books I haven’t read.

I'm still listening to the audiobook but I NEED Y'ALL TO KNOW FIRST THING THERE'S A DOG AND IT'S THE HEROINES AND THE DOG IS MURDERED IN THIS BOOK.

AGAIN. REPEAT. ALERT:

THE DOG IS MURDERED.

...

Ok, so I finished this book. I mean, Stephanie Nicole Norris will never see this but ... if [she] does ... please hire another editor. Hire me! Hire someone [else] another someone.

She writes a good story and great characters - you know what you're going to get GENERALLY [omg the dog T_T] but like ...
what's distracting/why I mentioned the editor (again) is ... literally sometimes the word choice render the text/story nonsensical. You kinda tune it out at some point. [Originally I wondered if it was the narrators but like - after reading (that is listening) to a few SNN books, AND MORE listening to other audiobooks narrated by the same narrators ... it's SNN.

So you know, fair warning.

Man - with some better editing though SNN would be EXCELLENT. So many [more] people would love her books. You have the smitten heroes - but there's actual relationship development.

The heroines are kickass. However everyone is so dynamic, in that they're well rounded. (Well, the heroines - the heroes are always borderline perfect.)

... her ex ... popping up - it wasn't TOTALLY pointless but ... low key, what?

[and having finished it; seriously guy killing her dog was ... unnecessary. Coulda/shoulda "just"let it out ... kidnapped it ... SOMETHING. Else.

The whole ... morning model thing. I couldn't tell if she was being malicious or not. Like it SEEMED so but also maybe she was just relaying information? It totally became a thing though.
[also though -I'm already listening to the audiobook to try to catch things I may have missed since I've been so sleep deprived lately my brain is mush.] - but like; the charity kitchen thing ... how ... I mean I know a lot of people speak English internationally and yes in the UAE but just ... language barrier?
[Which - language barrier is a phrase used incorrectly in the text ...]

So I do have difficulty rating SNN books/this one.

I quite enjoyed it. Not sure if I'd say it's a FAVORITE - I think the boxer hero one was? [Especially with the unnecessary dog murder] - but this - if you ~ignore the dog murder - is a second?
But seriously.

There are a lot of problems with it. Which :\ is why I don't really recommend SNN when I wish I could.

... ... D?

STORY
I liked Desiree’s and Julian’s story. I found myself liking the lengths Julian went through to get Desiree’s attention. Their chemistry was likable and relatable.

I think for me, why it didn’t wow me, was the pace of the story. I was not a fan of that. I like both side of the main characters families, and I didn’t see much of them. I wanted to know Claudia’s thoughts on Desiree’s relationship with Julian because of the relationship that connects them. Furthermore, I also don’t think that hinder that came between their relationship was strong enough.

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY:
Sex scenes were good. They were just right for both characters and matched them well.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
I like Santana, Desiree’s best friend, however, as I stated I didn’t get to see either side of the family as much to enjoy the family unit aspect of the story.

OVERALL
A nice read that I was not in love with but rather in like with.

✰✰TRIGGERS:

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

This one, the third installment of the Falling For A Rose series: Only If You Dare found Claudia's sister Desiree Stevens finding love with the brother of her new soon-to-be Brother-in-law (& my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE ROSE MAN), Jaden Alexander Rose: model/photographer, Julian Alexander Rose, upon meeting each other when Claudia & Desiree's hilarious mother Adelaide Stevens had a medical crisis & Jaden & Julian were there to support Claudia.....& Desiree through it.
Even though I love The FFAR series, this story & the coupling of Desiree & Julian didn't work for me mainly because I didn't like Desiree's attitude or character. I didn't really like Julian's character much either, but not for a particular reason.
There story line just wasn't as refreshingly exhilarating to me as the previous book: "Good Enough" that features the couple's siblings Claudia & Jaden. I found myself not caring whether or not Julian & Desiree would get together or not the entire time; I just wanted more of their (separate) sibs: Jaden & Claudia!
Desiree seemed as if she was determined to be miserable no matter what, & I felt that Julian should just move on to be with someone who isn't as miserable as Desiree seemed to be.

I enjoyed this book a lot. However, it became apparent that the author has a formula and unfortunately things became a bit predictable as far the characters were concerned.

To me Julian and Desiree almost act the same as the characters in book #2 and I really wanted these characters to be much more dynamic and rounded out. We know a little about each character’s background but like the subplots the author doesn’t really take us through the characters dealing with it in detail or healing from any trauma.

On the topic of subplots I find myself asking why when we have these subplots come up that aren’t explored at all. In this book someone is stalking the main character and the stalker gets caught and that’s it. It doesn’t talk about why it happened, who it was, and what connection the person had to the main character which to me makes the story fall flat and it could’ve done without it in there.

With that said I still enjoy this series a lot and am still curious about how the story is going to progress and I hope it continues to get better. I think the series has wonderful potential to grow and I am excited to find out.

Something to nitpick: I would love to hear more of the male voice actor in these stories.

Oh boy I'm a little late in getting this review up! I did received an ARC for an honest review.

First off I got to say that this series just keeps getting better and better. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am sad that I had to put off reading it because of family issues. But I am glad that this book was able to take me away from those issues if only for a little while.

I was happy to find out that not only was Julian an international model, he knew the ends and out of the industry as well. He was involved in the whole development - concepts, the planning, and being the photographer if needed. He knew what he wanted and went for it. Yet he was so afraid and unsure as well when it came to Desiree. Desiree too, was relatable. She's ambitious and yet so vulnerable as well with her past affecting how she's lived her life. The sex scenes...man...Julian is intense!!! LOL!

There was a confusing page/part I'd read but maybe because I got an advance copy. Very minor only but hopefully it was something her beta readers had already pointed out to her. I can't wait to read the next story as it seems those two characters got along very well, LOL.

Those Rose men sure know how to love!

I had a hunch when I read Jayden and Claudia's story that something was brewing between Julian Rose and Claudia's sister Desiree. When Julian showed up in Huston at the place where Desiree works, I knew immediately he came for Desiree. Sadly issues of abandonment from her childhood and broken trust by a lying, cheating ex made Julian's plans to make her his that much more difficult. These stories would not be complete without some crazy behind drama. This time it was a crazed individual who stalked Desiree, her friend and co-worker Santana and two other reporters, burglarized their homes and killed Desiree's dog. Then there was a model who over played her hand by trying to come between Julian and Desiree and got her feelings hurt. Thankfully there was also some reconciliation, a proposal, resignation letters and finally forward movement! I enjoyed this story very much and look forward to Josiah and Santana's story next. I bought the audio version too so on to a great listen Only if I dare!!!!!

Desiree Steven’s is fed up with work and contemplating moving back to her hometown. Her plans are halted when Julian Rose comes into town with a business proposal. Tragedy strikes and Desiree finds herself leaning on Julian for support.

Julian makes it his business to get close to Desiree. Her insecurities with men cause her to have brick wall around her heart. However, Julian is determined to knock that wall down.

Much like Claudia in book 2, Desiree has major daddy issues. Much like Jaden, Julian’s patience was commendable because Desiree’s back and forth got on my nerves. For her to be a journalist, her lack of communication skills made no sense.

Overall, the story was decent but the ending felt rushed. I would have liked to know more about the stalker and his motivation. Also, the scene with Desiree’s father was panned over too fast considering most of the story she is referencing her father’s disappearance. More depth on those issues would have been better. But on to book 4.

Desiree is the older sister to Claudia and truly got on my nerves is book two but was glad to see this book. It is a slow burn but worth the wait. Desiree meets Julian Alexander Rose when her mom is in the hospital but the start to there story all while being on a project was beautiful. I loved reading that Desiree had a completely different side and loved on those kids while on her project. She was at a point in her life where she needed change and that’s exactly what she got and so much more. But she was a bad ass boss in her own right and I loved seeing it for her self and those around her as well.

Julian was smooth with it baby that’s all you really need to know. Being an international male model on the top of his game. Just like the rest of his brothers it has to be a heart a soul thing that has these men ready to risk it all when they find their soul mate. What he does for her when life throws her for a loop has the biggest impact in my opinion.

Desiree was set to hand her resignation in to her boss when he gave her an assignment working for
Julian Rose's on the models photo shoot. Julian is the hot brother of Jaden who's engaged to her sister Claudia. The Rose men are charming & believe in love can he convince Desiree ? After break ins at her & her friends apartments Julian steps in to help along with his brother Josiah he's set to guard Santana her best friend I can't wait for their story.
These are all standalone alone books which have great characters each story is individual. I have enjoyed everyone & would definitely recommend them all.
Safe with me bk 1 - Jonas & Samiyah
Enough bk 2 - Jaden & Claudia
Only if you dare bk 3 Julian & Desiree
Fever bk 4 - Josiah & Santana
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Fabulous loved it.

Nice...but all the same

The series are all exactly the same. Including the "In the heart of a Valentine" series. I kid you not, If you've read one you've read them all. Rich, tall, dark, handsome, Powerful H. The h is always jaded and afraid to fall in love. Off the bat it's always love at first sight but both aren't wanting to let their feelings be known. He always breaks down before her. After a short time she puts up a front that she doesn't love the H because she's afraid to show her feelings because how could someone so rich, powerful and handsome want her. She's usually broken. The H knows almost immediately he's in love and in a pursuit he begins his chase. I've read the entire Valentine series now I'm on this one. Why do I keep reading you ask? I like a cheesy story with Black love that includes educated rich Alpha men and not the flakiest of women. Oh well.

I love the fact that this book and this series is about strong black men falling in love with intelligent, independent sistas.

This is my 3rd book into the series, and I am starting to see a pattern where the women are somewhat emotionally damaged. I love that the men are so supportive.

In the case of Julian and Desiree, it bothered me that after seeing old girl at the photo shoot, she wanted to hide. To doubt and second guess everything. Whatever happened to "never let them see you sweat"? Whatever happened to confronting a situation and getting some answers? My thought was if Desired was that insecure, how was she going to have a life with international model Julian Rose?

I liked the story, but I hope going forward that the some of the women get a little more backbone, especially if the men are going to be so strong and self assured.

I was thoroughly enjoying the book until descending on the end. I felt that it was rushed and the story was t developed well. Who exactly was their stalker? There was no development there. Cameron and her father and the same time. Like what!? And then why would he propose to her during that random time at the coffee shop? It was already a confusing time with her dad being there and she didn’t get a chance to really feel her emotions with that and then.. BOOM… a proposal. Like huh!? If anything he could have did it with her actual loved ones. I was looking forward to a high rating and then a whole bunch of nonsense happened. Also… who in there right mind would let there kid go with a complete stranger?

Awesome Read!

I'm glad Desiree finally got closure from her dad who started the insecurities within her, within her sister and with intimate relationships with male companions. I have to say I really like the Rose brothers because of their no nonsense demeanor, which brings me to Julian the brother with a confident personality, but who is very humble and protective. I think Julian is perfect for Desiree because he is able to show her what she needs to see that is within her. His confidence can help her reach the level she needs to feel whole. Great love story with a little drama but with more love than drama. ReneeG

Healing Love

Repairing the heart is a work of the soul in this tantalizing book. Desiree Stevens' has had her heart broken from her father, who left her family at a young age, never returning as promised, and by her ex boyfriend Cameron, who slept with another woman and left her completely shattered. Due to past heartache from the men she loved, Desiree has trust issues when it comes to men and has no time for love or a happily ever after. That is until Mr. Julian Rose catches her eye after her mother is rushed to the hospital. She can't keep her minf off of him and he can't, her. Julian devises a plan to explore this pounding desire he has for Desiree, which is a feeling he's never had for a woman. Desiree can't deny the attraction, yet she tries her hardest to fight the instant spark she feels from his gaze, his words, his lips, his touch.

This story was a slower pace than the first two in this series, yet still as alluring and just as great. I loved the connection Desiree had with Antonio and how she entertained the young boy, opening her heart to a child in need.

Julian was a savage beast with his Alpha Male persona and I loved it. Once he was all in with his feelings, he wasn't letting Desiree go.

One thing I've loved about this series is how fast love comes upon the characters. Like the matriarch of the Rose Clan, Mr. Christopher Rose, stated in the first book, who makes the rules to how fast or slow love should come? Another wonderful read. Now, I want to see what connection spicy Santana and Josiah have in this next book. Such a great series.

Send Julian to my address ASAP!

I am loving the Rose Brothers, Jonas, Jaden, and now Julian! Oooh weee, every time he called Desiree Bella I melted. I love when authors give us the male perspective on how they fall in love. It is sexily primal how they claim the women they love. Julian is no exception. I knew Desiree battled a lifetime of hurts starting with her father but I was glad to see her willingness to fall in love with Julian. Lila was a witch and I longed for her to get some hands laid on her, Cameron too. Yet the love between Julian and his Bella was good enough. Loving this series.

Tropes: just to get it out of our system, forced proximity

My favorite in the series so far! Julian is the international model brother and Desiree is Claudia's older sister. I loved the travel and the way Desiree and Julian act on the trip. They fall hard and fast for each other in Dubai, especially once she steps into the role of modeling the queen when another model is late.

Things I loved; Julian and Desiree as characters, the change to 1st POV, Desiree reconciling / improving her relationship with Claudia
Things that didn't work so well for me: the stalking subplot (CW for animal death), and the other woman subplot with Lila

Disappointing

Desiree had reservations that were never really resolved. All Julian did was bulldoze her wishes and use sex as a bandaid to her insecurities. The ending to the Cameron situation with their dad was rushed and unsatisfying. Dad abandons kids for over twenty years and it’s all forgiven with a lousy apology. He could have come back after he paid his debt but he instead watched them. If they were going to forgive their dad that easily, it was useless having both Claudia and Desiree struggle with trusting men because of him.

All in all, I did not really like any character besides Santana and felt no character was given any depth.
