When Satan himself comes calling, what would you do?
In the summer of 1869 evil once again threatens England from the endless darkness of the Aether, with humans and their new supernatural allies locked in a battle for survival against the malevolent Almadite forces. When the famed demon hunter Kate Thatcher is kidnapped by the enemy, Augustus Potts and his friends must risk everything—including the safety of the entire planet—to rescue her before she is lost forever. Their quest will take them to the very edge of existence, to distant worlds beyond their worst nightmares where they must overcome an unholy entity that could destroy everything they hold dear. Their only chance of rescuing Kate and saving mankind lies in forming an alliance with the demon Andras. But Andras has his own plans that could lead to him holding ultimate power over all creation… If you could cheat the laws of time and space to save the one you cared the most about, would you do so—no matter what the price? Beyond the Aether is the third book in Peter Oxley’s Infernal Aether Series, a dark gothic fantasy set in Victorian London described as “fantasy at its best”, “epic” and “no holds barred”. If you like electrifying action, rich characters and fantastical demonic worlds, then you’ll love Beyond the Aether.

Pete Oxley leads a double life - by day a coach and trainer for nervous wedding speakers, and by night an author of dark historical fantasy, steampunk and sci-fi. Sometimes he even wears a cape...
A self-confessed geek, when he's not inventing new worlds and writing about them, he can be found devouring books, films and TV programmes on pretty much anything (but with a soft spot for steampunk, sci-fi, fantasy or anything with a zombie in it...).
Author of the Spencer & Bart / Demon Hunting series, "The Infernal Aether" series, and the non-fiction book "The Wedding Speech Manual".
He lives with his wife, two young sons and a slowly growing guitar collection. Aside from writing and willingly speaking in front of large crowds of strangers, Pete spends his spare time playing music badly, supporting football teams that play badly and writing about himself in the third person.
Wow, straight from the first words in the first chapter there is a battle taking place against warlocks and demons. Excellent!
This story starts with a battle and the abduction of a friend. Kate. What follows is a rescue mission into another realm. A realm where the dead and the demons rule.
The human world is in disarray, poised on a knife edge of fear. The threat from the demon realm, Almadel, is growing by the day. Magic is leaking into the world and people are fleeing London in their thousands out of fear.
All this is the backdrop to the rescue mission. Our intrepid explorers, turned rescuers, are facing some of the most dangerous creatures in existence...but that's not all. Mix in satan worshipers; a dead sister; and a sword doing weird things to its owner, and you have a pretty mess for the main characters to sort out!
The main characters never stop trying to finding Kate, despite difficulties, dangers and governmental resistance. This was a rollercoaster of a ride. The action was well written and exciting and the characters were full blown individuals. I totally loved the different personalities and species of person in this story. Each one was unique and distinctive.
I loved the good guys and cheered for them when things went well...and I booed at the bad guys when things went their way. I was totally engrossed from the start and found myself utterly drawn along by the fast pace of this book. This is another great book by the author of the Infernal Aether series.
Victorian England, steampunk type inventions and creatures from another universe? Get ready to take a trip down the rabbit hole with Gus and his friends (and maybe his enemies) for all that and more. There was never a dull moment and the world building was pretty awesome. Good read.
Beyond the Aether can be read as a stand alone but I think you'll get more enjoyment out of it if you read The Infernal Aether and The Demon Inside first.
I received an ARC of Beyond the Aether in exchange for an honest review.
Incredible! Pete Oxley has, again, created an extension from a fascinating world into a dark and fearsome aether. Going there with some of my favorite characters plus a few new ones for me to 'love to hate' was at times, harrowing. But, we must do anything and everything to save a loved one.
I love this series and am already excited about the next book. I sincerely hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. So, honestly go get your copy and start reading. Oh, and hold on for the ride👍👍
The third adventure into the Aether, sees Augustus Potts and his friends facing the toughest test yet. When Kate is taken by the Four Kings, the team are determined to get her back, but whose tune are they being led by. Good book, as the demons again demonstrate they are masters of the long game.
