The journey through the desert of the survivals is trepidant and thrilling. For once, the characters are down to earth guys and gals striving to defend themselves and survive in a hostile and incredible surrounding to reach their goal, remains of Las Vegas, in search of humans like them. Many surprising twists and action packed till the end!

""Warning. Reactor failure. Shutdown commencing. All personnel evacuate.” Something flashed through the Primary Access Module not twenty feet ahead of him and was then gone. It had been four or five feet wide, half as tall, and... flying."
Reggie has finally gotten Arda up and running and is getting a print-out of the history of the hibernation tanks so that he can find out what caused some of them to fail, then something makes a buzzing sound and he looks down the corridor, was that something he saw? He asks Arda if the temperature regulation system is working properly, next, Arda is giving warnings and commencing shutdown of the reactor due to a failure! Reggie has to get his team out of the room over the reactor ASAP.
Once the reactor is shut down, Reggie and team are in the difficult position of not having shelter from the burning desert, they have to decide next steps.
Initially Reggie has matters forced on him by Pete and he ends up trekking to the nearest town to suss out its potential, and from this point on events seem to leap away from the team at an incredible pace.
Dynamics within the team shift and change with the circumstances, leaving Reggie feeling uncertain and lacking in self confidence. He doesn't know whether the team is with him or against him, and more to the point, there are two females within the team. Is he on the list of potential partners?
There is danger, conflict, intrigue and new challenges galore for Reggie's team, no let up in the struggle for life. They will have to fight for every bit of everything that they need.
And there is always a twist in every part of the tale, along the way.
I enjoyed reading this, the second book in the series as much as I did the first. The quality of P. R. Adams writing enables me to 'see' the story unfolding before me, and that always enhances the read for me. Once again I am looking forward to the next book coming out.
I received an e-ARC of this novel from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The first book in this series was a straight-forward battle for survival between a tribe of humans just released from cryogenic stasis and the last remaining tribe of the genetically-engineered Cro-Magnons. As a stand-alone novel it was very entertaining and hinted towards the nightmare post-apoclyptic world that this battle took place in.
This second book, Across Burning Sands expands out the universe, and introduces us to the enemy that had decimated the Cro-Magnons, the sharpteeth. But unlike the first book, the sharpteeth are not one individual tribe, but are a society consisting of different species of wolf-like sharpteeth, split among a civil war between leaders of the various tribes. Often times the sharpteeth are so engaged in their own conflicts that the humans spend more time as tools than as victims.
There's a surprising amount of political intrigue in this post-apocalyptic tale than one would expect, surprisingly that is not a bad thing. I quite liked this book.

I've read all three books in this series. This one had a typo or two, but certainly nothing to stumble over. This is one hell of a ride through Hell on earth. I highly recommend it, and I challenge any of you to think of some way to do it better. You'll see what I mean when you read it. Fasten your seatbelt first though.

I have The Burning Sands Trilogy Omnibus, of which this is book two. Clearly, keeping the story of how the world came to be in the state it is in at the start of this trilogy somewhat of a mystery was intentional. More is revealed in "Across Burning Sands", but there is still a lot to learn. This story has become rather weird. Packs of wolf-human hybrids battling for dominance a la Game of Thrones, mysterious drones, and abandoned secret laboratories. Weird. But delightfully so. I am looking forward to more in book three.

I can't get enough of PR Adams's books. I love his characters and plots.
In "Across Burning Sands", we find Reggie and his ragtag band of accidental, ill-equipped survivors in a predicament, and they are forced to leave their bunker and journey across the wasteland in order to survive. We meet the sharpteeth, who were mentioned in the first book. They are not what I expected at all! Adams could have had them be cliche villains, but instead (typical for him) we have living breathing peoples with their own wants and desires, struggling to survive in a cruel world.
I really enjoyed how Reggie, Barb, Denise and the others grew in this book, and in this book we learn more about the future world they woke up in. The ending left me anxious for the third book of the series!

Book one had a suspenseful ending and left readers with many questions. This book gave us some answers, though they were revealed slowly. It’s strange that no one talks about what became of the rest of the US and the world. One note to the author: study Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Food, clothing and shelter come before sex. Granted I don’t know the male brain like the author does, but Reggie spends a ridiculous amount of time lusting after every female he sees.

Easy entertaining read. My god is the man formulaic though. Every novel he writes has 50 chapters and introduces the main villain as a POV character in chapter 10. No wonder he cranks these things out. Also, lay off the damn exclamation marks man
