During his tenors as the Asia Pacific CEO of the securities services business of BNP Paribas and Northern Trust during their formative years in the region for 16 years combined, he was the driving force behind successfully establishing their businesses from the ground up to becoming market leaders.
He was honoured with an Industry Legend Award by Global Custodian in 2023 and a Lifetime Achievement Award by Asia Asset Management in 2016, alongside several other industry accolades. Additionally in 2020, he received the Vice Chancellor Alumni Excellence Award from the University of Queensland, his alma mater in Australia.
The fascinating development of Asia’s financial industry has inspired him to author two books. His first book, "Asia's Financial Industry 1986-2016", was published in 2016, which captures the memorable episodes and events during this process. The book is available in English and Chinese versions on Amazon and other bookstores, and ranked #18 in the category of Banks and Banking in Kindle Store. It is also included in the collections of a number of universities and public libraries across the globe.
His second book "From Physical to Digital" was published in October 2022, which reviews 25 most important development in the securities services industry over the last quarter century during Asia's economic transformation.
Since his retirement from corporate life, he has been active in business consulting, guest lecturing in universities, mentoring young professionals and business start-ups, as well as supporting a number of philanthropic causes.
Lawrence has a passion for wine. He has attained WSET Level 3 certification and is currently pursuing a Level 4 Diploma. He is also a certified sommelier in Japanese sake.
