Rate this book
She’s got a destiny, and it’s all tied up in him….

Madeleine Macy is a magical enforcement officer. She doesn’t have power, but boy does she have a razor sharp wit.

Then she meets her match in Valstein, a powerful vampire of noble descent who's about to become a massive pain in her butt. When one of the most respected vampire lords in Knight City is brutally murdered, Madeleine is thrown together with Valstein to solve the case before it's too late. You see, if it's too late, Madeline dies. And Valstein really can't have that - not until he finds out who she is and - more to the point - who's been hiding her from him.

Legal Rites is an urban fantasy police-procedural sure to please fans of Odette C. Bell’s Angel: Private Eye series.

I so enjoyed this mystery it has so much intreage and humor as well as compassion with a witch that takes here job seriously including keeping her secret and those of her sisters. The caracters are vibrant and challenging in so many ways. Odette Bell's writing is of high caliber that draws you into i'ts storey not letting you go until the story is at its end. Aquier "Undercover Vampire "so you yourself can enjoy reading it as much as I have. 😀🙄😊Kat

This is EXACTLY the kind of book I was looking for. It has a fun mystery, a sarcastic sidekick, banter and sexual tension. The pacing was a little off for me. It had a good pace till the end and then EVERYTHING happened at once and fast and the book was done. It’s definitely a slow burn that hasn’t really started yet so we will see where this story goes.

Although the narrator's voice is a bit jarring in the beginning because she's talking to the reader directly, I got used to it eventually. It is an enjoyable start to a series that I'll continue to read, just as soon as it is available on my library's Overdrive collection.

I am not rating this book because I did not make it through the first chapter, purely because of personal preference. I don't know what the technical term is, but the writing style was not my style. I believe it's a type of first person narrative, where the writer writes like they are talking to you. Ex: "You don't care about that, do you?" If that is not the type of writing you like, you will not want to read this book. If you do not care about writing style, please go for it and let the rest of us know how the story is!
