Another great story in the third book of the Catherine Bishop series.
I read the three books in succession.
Great series and enjoyed reading about Lincoln, somewhere I've never visited.

Like the other books in this series, I just find it hard to follow who is who, switching between full names, first names, surnames and nicknames just really throws me…

“On Laughton Moor”, “Double Dealing”, “From the Shadows” by Lisa Hartley
Just finished the Detective Sergeant Catherine Bishop series and loved finding a crime series from a writer I hadn’t come across before. The CID Detective Sergeant and her colleagues work in the gritty underbelly of the small towns of Lincolnshire (UK) dealing with drugs, protestation and murder, but on a level the local force aren’t used to dealing with.
The characters are strong and the team dynamics add depth to the character building, with the key members on a definite journey as they deal with the human cruelty and depravity they uncover. The plots twist and turn, baffling the detectives and only slowly revealing the complex web of connections.
These were Lisa Hartley’s first novels and show a strong style and excellent skill, the story arcs are well done, the narrative well developed and the descriptive passages integrate seamlessly into the well-constructed investigation. Definitely a crime writer I will be on the look out for again.

The third in the series sees DS Bishop go undercover in a Lincoln homeless shelter after a murder. A string of street robberies could also be linked - and this gets close to home as an off duty DC Anna Varcoe is stabbed as she and Bishop's brother are robbed.
Bishop is working with a different team, which allows several new characters to be introduced to the series, although we do see less of the enigmatic DI Knight. It feels like his back story has yet to be fully revealed.
Bishop has a difficult job, fitting in to the homeless community and investigating without being too obvious, while keeping her new team on side and worrying about Anna. It's a tricky case, and emotions are high.
This is a good police procedural with some well developed characters and the addition of some personal stories to the mix works well. The series is developing nicely.

There is something about Knight and Bishop that keeps me interested. This book was no exception. More focused on Catherine this time, because she isn’t doing too well.
That’s another thing I like. Most detective novels handle trauma very differently. People go through big traumatic events and bounce back like nothing happened. I love that we can see the effects of previous events in this series.
Once again, the mystery is a decent one. When a former cop is killed, a homeless man, Catherine goes undercover at the shelter. But is this the best thing for her considering her mental health at the time?

Great read.
It's been a while since I read the first 2 books in this series and it took a little while into book 3 to familiarise myself again with the main players but it didn't stop me from enjoying the story.
I love the charchter Catherine, flawed and vulnerable but determined and real. I really felt a connection with her. So much so I read it cover to cover in 1 session.
This book has a great story line, its believable and relatable and keeps you guessing to the end and beyond. Bravo Lisa, can't wait for book 4 x

Catherine Bishop goes undercover to gather information about the death of a homeless man, an ex-policeman, and the stabbing of her friend Anna. This seems a very straightforward premise for a book, but what follows is very confusing because evidence seems to indicate that more than one person is guilty of murder. Also an incident that happened twenty years prior may have a bearing on the crime. There is also a hostage situation, which allows Bishop to prove her courage under fire.

DS Catherine Bishop returns for a third outing. This time she is sent undercover to investigate the death of a homeless man who was once a police officer. This series of books are good solid police procedurals and I hope there will be more.

I really enjoyed this book, more than I did the first two. Throughout the series I really felt like I got to know Catherine Bishop and found myself rooting for her to succeed. The ending was very twisty and I liked that, because it kept me guessing right up until the last minute.

Having read 3 of these books one after the other i can honestly say how enjoyable they are. Great characters. Super plots and lots of grit. Now looking for the next one.

What a tear jerker
I really enjoyed this book. Catherine really does a great job. I hope there will be more stories in this series. I can't wait for a new one. Awesome books.
