Bryant “Slam” Nash is known for three things…

His intensity on the field,
His drive to win the World Series,
And scoring on the first date.

Gearing up for the biggest season of his career, Slam is determined to focus on his game, calling a time out on anything considered a distraction. Including Layne Scott.

Layne Scott doesn’t do complicated.

Independent and focused on raising her daughter, Layne is a woman running a business dominated by men. Managing the sports bar her father left her, she has no time for the arrogant ball player who keeps strutting through her door. With chiseled good looks in baseball pants, Slam Nash is a temptation she can’t afford.

Game on…

MEGA FANGIRLING ALARM!

The jewel of this story is the heroine.

INCREDIBLE WOMAN!!!
Strong, independent, clever, sassy, self-confident, amazing mother and and and...

FLOVED the heroine!
Let me worship this woman! *lol*

Damn, it's a long time since I read a book by a female author, who actually loves her heroine. Respect!

I'm so happy I read it 😊😊😊
Sorry for my doubts upfront, but when I read a blurb with an athlete hero & non celebrity heroine, I always think of clichés - womanizer incl. some sex-scenes with OWs plus little to none respect for female population & a beaming with delight/dripping arousal/brain coma etc. doormat. Sorry again, but the most books with such premise deliver this scenario.

Well, you won't find it here!
Instead you get an amazing, brilliantly written heroine and a decent hero.

Again, I'm so happy I read it 😊

It's a slow burn, little sexy times, but hot chemistry.
Lovely story of two people, who were meant to be together.

I wasn't a big fan of the hero at the beginning: this push & pull *exhausting*, him wanting to focus on his career (which is totally fine) and being sure any serious relationship would ruin it *eye roll*.
Not my favourite trope, but it worked out at the end 😉

Damn, I'm half in love with the heroine.
When was the last time you read about a woman, who didn't fall at man's feet/didn't get immediately wet/didn't lose her brain activity, but was feminine strong and cool all the way?
Ah, I'm seriously fangirling now! 😍

I adored her relationship with her daughter. I wish my friends Leonor and Cyndi (who I know have daughters) would read it and share their thoughts with me.
No pressure, girls! Just saying 😉

Not a typical set-up with ex's relationship. She was friends with her ex/her daughter's father and his new fiancée. It was written pretty well. Didn't bother me a bit.

Personal thanks to the author for not throwing hero's womanizer's past in my face AND for solving the light drama at the end NOT with unnecessary dramatic gestures, but with communication!
Hell yeah to speaking to each other!

Will check other books by this author now. Finger crossed I'll find more decent female characters!

Safe!

Going to look for another good book, but STILL waving my fangirling flag 😎

I read this because of my friend Alex and her wonderful review! I'm happy I did because I absolutely loved the heroine! Layne is a wonderful mother and friend- she is a hard worker and a straight shooter. I loved the way she handled herself with the hero. Bryant was ok- he was definitely all about Layne once he met her even though he friend zoned her. I couldn't totally love him because his manwhore past was gross to me. He had taken full advantage of being a pro ball player and was known for years because of his sexual activities with random women. And of course he hooked up with supermodels and actresses which leads to the heroine thinking "why me?" There were mentions that he toned it down after some years and that he was now picky about who he hooked up with, but no info on when his last hookup was or how many random women he slept with in a year. He almost had sex with his hot neighbor, but she showed her crazy before he hooked up with her. Layne's bff was annoying, but also funny and a good friend. I liked Bryant's friend Conor- he lost some points when he was going to go sleep with the crazy neighbor just because she was hot. I am really over reading about grown men that sleep with any hot chick with no thoughts about the consequences. It is gross to me! Anyway- I was able to push the manwhore stuff to the back of my mind and really enjoy this book! Thanks Alex!

Thank you Alex, your review prompted me to read this book. 😊😘

I liked it, heroine was strong woman and her relationship with her daughter reminds me of my relationship with my girls. I have my girls's back on everything so I'm happy the heroine was the same way.

The hero was ok to me, I liked him enough I also liked his friendship with Conor and up until the end I wanted to read his book but when he was almost willing to leave with the neighbor to sleep with her then I changed my mind.

It is bad I want to read about Malcolm? The man the heroine went on a date with?
He sounded hot!! Maybe the author will write about him?? 🙏🏼

And it course there were some things that bothered me like the heroine's friend. She was annoying with her screeching and yelling, I was thinking, Jesus can this woman talk instead of screaming and screeching like a damn banshee? And the scene at the bar where they were rolling in the dirt I thought they were both acting like little kids.

Do you know, I absolutely loved this! There wasn't any angst, nor unnecessary or manufactured drama. The adults behaved like adults, Layne and her ex giving their daughter everything she needed and doing it as a team. How refreshing to get that in a romance book .... that right there could've been a huge drama-rama.

All the characters were brilliant, Layne is by far and away the best heroine I've read about in a long time. She's strong, sassy, takes no prisoners, is fiercely independent, is an amazing mother all the while being a really lovely person. No prickly push away TSTL heroine here thank you very much.

The hero pushed away a little but I totally got why and again the author played this just right.

Whilst I've read this story line before, this one was done really well and not a virgin, flashback or filler in sight.

Loved it!

Amazing book!
Loved the h, she didn't give a shit, she didn't drop her panties for hero's sake.
I loved how independent and successful she was! Loved her very much.
My 4 stars are bc the H was a coward. He didn't give a chance to be together with her. And his"what is".... Although it was refreshing that he didn't "try to forget her" with other women.
Safe read. Minor ow drama. She was a stalker. No cheating.

AMAZING heroine, ok hero!
Her BFF is really quite annoying though I love the loyalty! She is indeed extremely loyal!
Conor, I don't have enough information to talk about his character. He's amazing peer to hero, however his character is questionable!
Lusting after every hot woman while looking for "the one" is hardly an indication of character.
Whereas hero who was strictly NOT looking for a relationship managed to grow up and correct his manwhoring past.

However, book is all about heroine. It's 3.5 stars rounded down because of the weak hero this amazing woman has been handed with! She was spot on. To watch your loved one with someone else and have a sudden change of heart is not really a change. It is just jealousy and rivalry. And it's petty and childish.

I'm glad he had to somewhat work for her. But to be honest, he really didn't, did he? He just had to stew for one evening watching her date someone, after that even when heroine was stern about not committing to him, he and we both knew she was already committed! He only had to walk on eggshells for a while but I don't think he really had to work much on winning her over.

I wish he DID have to win her over Malcolm, but I guess then Malcolm would have been hurt in process and he was really a rather nice guy.

I really loved it how heroine was determined to move on and it wasn't her body betraying her every time he'd look at her and she'll jump on his bed! She would have very much worked it out with Malcolm if it came to that!

Since I'm not a mother, all I can say is I found the relationship endearing and loved to read about it.

I had huge respect for heroine when I realised her relationship with her ex and his fiancée however I didn't like either of them. The fiancée seemed to think her partner is such a prize, how can the heroine not love and pine over him specially after having his child, and the ex seems to have enjoyed that idea and never discouraged that notion until it came to bit him back on the ass when the fiancée fell pregnant and no longer trusted his emotional loyalty towards her! That reeks of narcissism and vanity and arrogance when in real life he was the one who lost a gift like heroine!

I took a chance on new to me author Andee Michelle when Slam, the first book in her Colorado Smoke series, came up for review. As a huge baseball fan, I often find that I either really love baseball romances or they fall very short. Slam was a great romance and honestly if it hadn’t been for a few instances of unexplained behavior by a player during the baseball season, this would have been a 5 star read. I loved the characters despite their flaws, I loved that this wasn’t an easy road to a relationship, I loved the different layers to this story and the people in both the hero and heroine’s lives who were a big part of it, but most of all I loved the way this book was about more than two people falling in love; it was about how not matter how much your think you are content in your life sometimes it takes just one person to make you realize you want more out of it.

Some say Bryant “Slam” Nash has lived a charmed life, natural ability and a love of the game he is a long time MLB player now playing the last year in his career. Shoulder issues, surgery, and years of putting everything he has into the game have taken its toll on his body, his focus winning a World Series with his team the Colorado Smoke and he feels it deep in his bones that this will be the year. Stopping in a bar incognito he has no idea that the lovely bartender he meets will change his life in more ways than one.

Layne Scott has no idea why Bryant Nash is in her bar, the only thing she does know is her father would have been so excited to know “Slam” was in the bar that meant so much to him. A huge fan of the man, Layne might secretly love the fact he is in her establishment, but she realizes he’s trying to not be noticed so she treats him like everyone else in her bar. She doesn’t know what to think when he returns a second time or when he explains he wants to be her friend, all she knows is that he’s woken up a part of her she thought was dead and buried.

Ms. Michelle makes the SLOW BURN of romance an art form, truly she does, and it was perfect for this story and this couple. As a single mom, Layne has pretty much put her personal life on hold for the last 8 years despite having a great relationship with her daughter’s father and even his fiancée. That was what made this book so special, while the friendship/relationship between Bryant and Layne was every present, their relationship with the other people in their lives was also present adding to the depth of this extremely well written story. I enjoyed the way Bryant and Layne flirted, teased, kissed and then took a step back because Bryant was scared. While Layne was a bit disappointed, she was also a bit relieved because Bryant was making her think things she hadn’t thought about in years. I loved that they were both a bit scared and off balance. Watching them figure it out with the help of their friends and their wise advice was rewarding in so many ways.

I love when a new to me author grabs my attention and that is exactly what Andee Michelle has done in Slam. With its ups and downs and all the goodness from page one to the end, Slam was a perfect romance and I am already looking forward to the next book in this series.

Jus what I needed to get out of my reading slump! Loved the hero. Loved the heroine. They were just magic together and I got so caught up in their story :)

It was also so nice seeing two people (the heroine and her ex) be awesome co-parents. They still argued and pissed each other off, but I loved that they had each other's backs and genuinely wanted the other happy, knowing they weren't right for each other.

The story was engaging and I can't wait to read more. I want Conor's story now :)

Slam would be first read by Andee Michelle and I plan on reading more by this author , right from the first page I couldn't put my kindle down . Bryant and Layneare are so perfect for one another loved everything about them , the easy way they could just talk to one another , intense attraction and they have hilarious friends that I hope to see more in the future . Layneare is such a beautiful heroine inside and out adored the relationship she has with her daughter such a mama bear and her crazy best friend they were hilarious together , also found the fact the she doesn't hate her baby daddy liked their friendship and respect for one another so happy to see there was no drama with that is very refreshing to see . Bryant is such a swoon worthy hero was a little hesitant with how I would see him and was pleasantly surprised by how much I really liked him , he also has a crazy friend who is more like a brother to him , and the way he is with the heroines daughter is so wonderful melting into a puddle of goo now . This is a little slow burn and when I say that the couple really get hot and heavy but it's tastefully done . Can't wait to read whats to come for this author again hope to read more about these characters .

I was voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of the book.

First of all, THAT COVER THOUGH!!! Now that that's out of the way - I'm not gonna lie, this book slipped through my scheduling cracks and I attempted to speed read it but I so got SUCKED IN!! I love Sports Romances (though at this point, is there really a romance sub-genre that I don't love?) and this one was a HOME RUN (pun totally intended). We meet Bryant at the start of his career in a quick prologue that introduces us to the arrogant athlete and then we're quickly brought to his current reality where he's accepted that his career is coming to an end. He is brash and bold and sexy and has earned every bit of swagger he exudes and I just love him. But he's emotionally fragile (isn't that so often the case with these alphas?) and Layne is the perfect adhesive for the cracks in his armor. I just loved her too - y'all know that I have a soft spot for single mamas and I saw so much of me in her. She was fierce, independent, passionate and just what I would want for a bestie. The way handles motherhood, her business, and Bryant was just superb. I read K. Bromberg's The Player and The Catch earlier this summer and this was so reminiscent of that without being a copy - Slam manages to explore similar themes and circumstances while remaining wholly original. It was fun, sexy, heartfelt, and real. Five out of five stars for sure. I can't wait to continue with series - like for real... can I have the next book now pretty please? Lol :)

There were a lot of things that I really liked about this book and how it went against many clichés in romance.
- The jewel was the heroine. Strong, smart, independent, stands up for herself and for other people. She didn't hesitate to tell the hero off when he was in the wrong and she called him out on his shit (like when he thought he should make decisions for her own good).
- The heroine's ex (and the father of her daughter) is actually a (relatively) good man and a good father. (I didn't like him all that much due to some of his comments, but you know, he was normal.) They get along well.
- Her ex's new partner is actually a normal, nice woman and she loves the heroine's daughter.

However, there were two main things that decreased my enjoyment of the book.
- First, I hate to sounds like a broken record, but *sigh* instalust/instalove. I would love this book so much more if the relationship was built a little more gradually. The main characters are attracted to each other immediately, which is fine, but they also start thinking how the other person is "so different" from other (wo)men and if they might be the one. Instalove just doesn't work for me, unfortunately.
- The pacing was very slow. I especially struggled in keeping my interest during the second half. I felt like half of the book took place during one baseball competition ... And despite the main characters being kind of in love almost immediately, things don't evolve between them (physically) for a looong time.

All in all, there were a lot of positives in this book, I was just a little bored by it (lol). I think I also wanted a bit more in the epilogue.

description

This story has alot of potential for a higher rating, because it covers several things that I love in romances - it has older leads, it has professions that do factor into the storyline and it's certainly more focused on the characters than big action plot points. Unfortunately, it was more snooze than snazzy, so let me explain.

I loved the mature relationship that Layne has with her daughter's father and the way they handled co-parenting was refreshing. I'm tired of that particular plot device (evil exes), so I was all for this. I liked their wacky best friends and the overall plot.

However, the devil is in the details and in this case, the devil was boring the bejeezus out of me. There was a dependence on repetition of the reasons why they wouldn't work/scared to commit/unable to let go. Both Layne and Bryant spent alot of time explaining feelings instead of talking to each other, or other characters. It was noticeable, it was often and it was distracting. It really needed some good editing to tighten up the narrative and bring focus to their individual struggles. I didn't need all the rambling details and it made me want to skim because I knew I wasn't missing vital information. That's unfortunate. But I wouldn't rule out another book by this author, I just hope the storytelling will improve with time because there's potential here.

I loved SLAM! No wait, I loved Bryant Nash. Andee created and wrote a sports romance that had me swooning from the moment Bryant laid eyes on Layne to the very last two words of the story. It had the perfect blend of sweetness, hotness, and angst that kept me swiping through the pages, but never wanting it to end. If you love sports romance, then definitely one-click this story... you'll be glad you did! Home run all the way!

I liked Slam. Loved Layne and Bryant. Loved a few secondary characters too. The story centers on "Slam" aka Bryant, an aging star baseball player who knows this is his last year. The body breaking down from a hard played career. He stumbles into a sports bar and is drawn to the sassy bartender/owner, Layne. She is a single mother who works hard and doesn't take things lightly.

Bryant is a bachelor who shies away from relationship seeing how the travel and not being home ruined many relationships of his friends and teammates. Layne though is different and while he is intrigued, this being his last season, he needs to focus on getting a ring. Problem is his focus is for naught with keeping Layne at arms length.

This story has a few nice twist, a scare with her daughter, his stalker neighbor, a person impersonating someone else and a few other.

What didnt work for me was the sports. There were so many glaring inaccuracies as a man, this took away from the book. The show...is the majors not the world series. 2 run homers that score 3 runs and a few others. It is a major pet peeve of mine when their are glaring inaccuracies like this. Simple google searches or asking a sports fan would have alleviated them. I am sure most non sports fans will rate this higher but for me I couldnt.

This was a super sweet, slow-burn romance. The H was amazing but the h was the main star. She was smart, tough, loved her daughter, didn't melt into a puddle at the H's feet, knew what she wanted and went out and got it. I loved her!

The book is super slow-burn. Bryant spends a lot of time (too much) waffling over his attraction to Layne. He is a reformed man-whore who made poor choices as a rookie and outgrew that long ago. He spends entirely too much time avoiding a relationship because he needs to "focus" in his game. This goes on . Once they decide to date the story really takes off.

The secondary characters were well done and I liked that Layne had a good working friendship with her daughter's dad and fiance.

Don't read this book for the heat. There is minimal sexiness happening..

This book was safe. No OW drama other than the crazy stalker who we all can see is a psycho.

I very much enjoyed the characters and their friends in this extremely slow burn of a novel.

It felt a little slow to me but after about 40%, it picked up and read very quickly.

Bryant and Layne were a lot of fun to read. Both of them have an extremely independent spirit that, at first, seemed like they'd clash like oil and water but it turns out that THAT is probably what brought them together.

Throw in some really well written baseball, an eight year old tomboy princess and some super quirky friends and you have this fun read.

Four stars.

This started out promising, then it had certain plot devices that are pet peeves for me. This is one of those romances where it’s will they won’t they, this went on forever and became really boring. Then there was the really annoying best friend, which to my horror they both had. I hate that. But the push and pull between the two main characters just dragged this out IMO. I wasn’t feeling the connection between them especially from Bryant, he didn’t seem sure about the two of them at all. Then there was Bryant’s female neighbour who was basically his stalker, it seems she’s really determined to get him for herself. What I found odd was that his female stalker and the woman who gives Layne constant shit at her daughter’s school are the same person. So when the stalker ups the ante and Layne sees her looking like she’s just left Bryant’s hotel room doing the walk of shame how come Layne didn’t recognise her. That was weird. Not well thought out at all. But this has a great cover picture. Shame the book wasn’t as good.

It's been sooooo long since I've read an AWESOME sports romance novel. SLAM definitely delivered ...and then some.

Bryant "Slam" Nash is a MLB superstar, on the brink of retirement, with a penchant for being a total manwhore. Never one to be interested in a relationship, he never expected for his world to be completely turned upside down that one day in the bar.

See, he knew from the very instant his eyes grazed upon Layne Scott working behind the bar that something about her was going to rock his world.

Layne Scott, single mom and workaholic, doesn't let on that she notices Slam incognito and can't quite shake the feeling of him being stuck on her mind from a brief encounter at her bar.

What I loved:
-Layne and Bryant's connection is instantaneous, yet not given us too quickly.
-Bryant was so damn SWOON worthy....gah!!!
-I absolutely LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Layne! It's also been a while since I've found myself LOVING a heroine in this genre that didn't make me want to shake her silly at some point in the book.
-Layne's relationship with Garrett (her daughter Gracie's father) and her acceptance of Chrissy (Garrett's fiancee) was quite refreshing. There wasn't any drama between the three and the dynamic was something to commend!
-Mandy (Layne's BFF) and Conor (Bryant's BFF) played the secondary character role quite superbly. I'm really hoping their crazy story is next!

What I didn't love:
-Stalker Sarina....that chick needed a reality check. I felt like she got off way too easily with what she did.

All in all, this book was a winner and most definitely a series that I'll be keeping up with. (Fingers crossed the next book seriously goes to Mandy and Conor...with a little check in with how Bryant and Layne are doing!! Especially with that ending....)

It was Alex's review: here that made me want to read this book. And I'm so glad that I did because I really really enjoyed it. Here's why:

> I really liked Layne, the h, in this story. She's so strong! She's an incredible mother, a good friend, and has healthy relationships with her ex. Layne is totally awesome!

> I especially liked that the book portrays a family where exes can have good relationships so that kid/s have a healthy and happy home life. I have a friend who's divorced from the father of her kids. She has remarried. Her ex also has remarried. And they co-parent their kids/stepkids in a really healthy environment --- so much so that each of them is grateful to have the other in their lives. This is the first book I've read that shows a healthy co-parenting home life and I was so happy about it. I think there should be more of this goodness rather than the jealous, skanky, cheating, gold-digging, insane ex situations that are normally present in books these days.

> I also really liked Bryant, the H. I liked that he wasn't portrayed as just a manwhore athlete. I liked that the story arc focused on other aspects of an athlete's life/career. So there's more to Bryant than groupies and getting laid. That's always a plus.

> I have to say that I'm a little in love with Conor, Bryant's best friend. He's such a lighthearted goofball that I want to read all about his own HEA.

> As a baseball fan, my sports romance self was very happy with the amount of baseball related scenes in the story.

Sighhhhh..... I just loved Bryant & Layne!!!

Layne is a single mom and sports bar owner; Bryant is a professional MLB player. One day he walks into her bar trying to be undercover and she clearly knew who he was because she's a huge baseball fan and treated him like any other customer. Bryant thought she was gorgeous the minute he saw her and loved how she didn't throw herself at him. When Layne told him that she knew how he was, treated him normal and discussed baseball with him, he was smitten.

Their connection was there but they both didn't want to start a relationship because of their own personal reasons. Layne is an extremely strong and independent woman and Bryant was sooooo swoony. They tried to be friends to try and block their feelings from each other. As their connection got deeper they finally took that step and it was so damn beautiful.

Bryant was extremely attentive and romantic and Layne was still bada$$ and I loved that about her. There was a slight very minor hiccup that didn't escalate and quickly resolved.

What I enjoyed about this book was that nothing was rushed and it clearly showed the most beautiful relationship being formed. I smiled while reading this book the entire time with its sweet moments and got teary eyed at emotional moments. These two were just the best and throw in both their crazy best friends, Layne's daughter and Layne's daughter dad and his fiancé, yes finally a book that baby daddy is actually likeable and awesome, you'll enjoy quite a few laughs and very beautiful moments.

I voluntarily accepted an advanced reader copy of this book and I look forward to more of this series.

Slam was a great story that I couldn't get enough of! And the weird thing is that I'm normally one who wants the sparks to explode quickly, but in this amazing story, it was a slow burn that kept me on the edge of my seat. Bryant "Slam" Nash has been known as the man whore of the Major League, but now at the end of his career, he's more focused on winning the World Series. He's not that same young boy with the world at his finger tips, and even though he swears that he will never do relationships, he's starting to feel lonelier lately. And this is when he comes across the woman who turns his world upside down. Layne Scott is a single mother, who runs her deceased father's sports bar, and has no time for anything complicated. Little did she know that when Nash came in her bar, that complicated would be the order of the day. They have a strong attraction, but Nash can't seem to get his head out of his butt, and she has no time for games. This was a great story of push and pull that had me ready to pull my hair out of my head. I loved Nash, and yet, I wanted to junk punch him a time or two! And Layne was fantastic, but I did want to shake her once or twice. But the real entertainment came from the cast of secondaries that kept me laughing hard, especially the tiny human who stole me heart completely! Andee Michelle's talented writing style is highly addictive, as I couldn't put it down until I finished it! I'm super excited to read more of her work, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND Slam to ALL!

This is the first time I have read any of this author’s work, and my goodness, I cannot wait to read more of her work! Bryant aka “Slam” used to be the total playboy, and now that he is older he realises that is not what he wants anymore. Layne is a single Mom, and the owner of a bar. When Bryant walks into the bar, Layne recognises something of herself in his stance. The chemistry between these two is awesome, and they are perfect for each other. But will they let themselves get involved in a relationship? No spoilers; this is a definite must read in my opinion, you will not be disappointed!
This very talented author has written a wonderful storyline, which had me hooked from the very beginning. There is angst, drama, humour, and twists and turns, which all lead to a remarkable tale. Congrats Andee; you have definitely gained a new fan, and I will be adding you to my favourites and 1-click lists!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book!

Slam by Andee Michelle
“Love finds you when you least expect it to, 5 stars”

Slam is the first novel of Andee’s that I have read and I am happy to tell you I enjoyed it. When I accepted to review Slam I did it based on the fact it’s a story about a baseball player, see I love baseball players so it’s an automatic one click for me. Slam though is a little different than most sports stories I read.
You have Bryant “ Slam” Nash who in his younger years was a ladies man. Now he’s older and not into the constant one-night stands, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to settle down. Bryant witnessed love between his parents, but with his life revolving around baseball he hardly sees relationships lasting. So, when he walks into a bar and meets the pretty owner he’s caught off guard when he asks her out. When he kisses her and he sees everything he has always wanted but never thought he’d get flash before his eyes he runs. Will he see the light before it’s too late to get the girl?
Layne is a bar owning single mom. She has no time for men, her life revolves around her daughter. When Bryant walks into her bar she knows who he is right from the start but recognizes his need for solitude. What surprises her is the easy flow of conversation between the two. Layne decides she’s ready to try a relationship, when Nash makes it clear he’s not ready she decides to try elsewhere. Only that doesn’t sit well with him.
You read about these two who have an undeniable chemistry that go from fighting it to embracing it. They both accept that most of their energies are not placed on each other but elsewhere. For Bryant its winning World Series, Layne it’s her daughter. Bryant falls easily for Layne’s daughter. He gets along with Layne’s daughters father. They both embrace each other’s best friend. And probably my favorite part is Layne probably loves baseball just as much as he does. Really, it’s a story about accepting where, who, and what you’re supposed to be doing. Here are a couple pieces of the story I enjoyed;
“Gentleman in the streets, grand slam in the sheets.”
“Now, please, for the love of all things holy, take your clothes off and get up on this bed with me.”
“My dad always told me that one day I’d meet a woman that would turn my world upside down. He was right.”

This sports romance will keep you hooked until the end. The writing and the characters are so likeable that you will love the flow of the story. You will fall in love with dysfunction that is real life.

Layne is running her sports bar, living her very simple life when Bryant crashes into her life. She is taking care of her 8 year old, Gracie and trying to live life the only way she knows how. You will fall in love with Gracie, she is a fun 8 year old that loves baseball. You will love the relationship that Layne has built with her daughter.

Bryant makes it very clear that he doesn't want or have time for a relationship but for the life of him he cannot stay away. He is drawn to Layne. When he finally gives in and does the dating thing, you will melt. He is built for relationships, and he is the only one that doesn't know it. He wears his heart on his sleeve. His best friend will keep you laughing.

Andee does such a great job of relaying the characters feelings and the secondary characters relationships with them. You want to be best friends with this group. We get lots of baseball. We get lots of details of the personal relationship between Gracie's dad and Layne. We get a lot of real life. This wasn't a far fetched, it could never happen. This is your friends life. This could happen to anyone. I loved how real it was, how honest Layne was, and how slow the relationship went. There was an instant attractive but not an instant love story. It showed the progression from getting to know each other and how quickly those feelings do change but life does get in the way. Layne remains independent even though she is falling. I cannot say enough good about this book.
