Solving a murder wasn't on the wedding planner's checklist.
Professor Hendley can’t seem to stay away from murder even on a morning run. With so many changes in her life, sleuthing is the last thing on the mind of Cold Creek College’s amateur sleuth. Unbeknownst to her, the victim was the manager of Hidden Oaks, a picturesque wedding venue – the precise location the wedding planner had suggested for her upcoming nuptials. When Sheridan visits Hidden Oaks, she senses there is more underfoot than meets the eye. Can she put the pieces together and have her wedding, too?
From childhood, as a fan of Nancy Drew, Dana Girls, Perry Mason, and the Hardy Boys, it was inevitable that Christa Nardi would continue her love of books and particularly mysteries. With a career in technical/nonfiction writing (under real name), it is not surprising that her love of mystery transformed into not only reading but writing mysteries. Christa combines her love for reading and writing on her blog.
I did enjoy this book mainly because I have been with it from the start and have watched (should that be read) how the characters have grown and become a sweet family. However while good and I loved Maddie as the wedding planner, I wouldn't call it a murder mystery (or to be honest a romance, maybe just a sweet cozy) as the story focused on the wedding planning more than the murder. There wasn't many suspects and the motive got a little bit lost. I am going to miss my friends at Cold Creek but I can't wait to see what the author has up her sleeve next. After a sweet proposal Sheridan and her teenage wedding planner are making some big decisions. The big question is where and when to have the wedding but the discover of a body means she has to combine wedding planning and investigating, when it turns out the dead man's family own the preferred wedding venue. A little thing called murder won't stand in the way of Sheridan's wedding day. I like the narrator. She has been a good choice for this series and I am glad she was with us the whole way through. I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntary left this review.
Overall: 5 of 5 stars Performance: 5 of 5 stars Story: 5 of 5 stars Reviewed: 12-30-23
When Brett proposes, he and Sheridan decide to forego the hoopla and have a small wedding without delay! Brett’s daughter Maddie thinks she’s found the perfect venue … until a sniff in the bushes by Charlie, the family Sheltie, turns up a body … the body of the manager of … you guessed it … the perfect venue! Uh oh! Welcome to “Murder and a Wedding”! Striking all the right notes, this story is perfect! I do love a well written mystery that keeps me guessing! Toss in a twisty plot that’s as intriguing as it is interesting and characters I’ve come to know, love and understand combined with a few fresh nefarious ne’er do wells, and I’m in heaven! And that’s exactly where I was listening to this beautifully narrated cosy mystery! I loved it, especially the wedding! Five fantastic stars!
Audiobook: I enjoyed book 5 of the "Cold Creek Mysteries" series as much as the other ones. Sheridan, Brett, and Maddie were enjoying their morning run, when Charlie, Sheridan's dog, found a dead body. Later they were told that the victim was the manager of "Hidden Oaks", the place where Maddie, as Sheridan's wedding planner, was hoping to have the wedding. The story had some surprising twists. There were some bittersweet moments as Sheridan faced the end of her time at "Cold Creek", and also for me as I realized that this was the last book in this series. Alyssa Baumann's narration was engrossing, and her performance kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
Murder and a Wedding is the best of this highly enjoyable mystery series. Maddie assigns herself the job of wedding planner when her dad and Sheldon become engaged and decide not to day the wedding. For Sheldon it is probably a good thing that she doesn't have to do all of the background work as she finishes up her last year at Cold Creek College and looks into the murder of the man who had been manager of the wedding venue that they find most attractive. Wedding details flow around the investigation as wedding planning give the couple the perfect excuse for checking out some irregularities surround the venue and the small town near which it is locate. As always the characters are fantastic and the mystery is intriguing.
I hope that Ms. Nardo decides to create the next series around the professor but look forward to whatever comes next.
Sher and Brett find another body as they are out jogging. As you will learn the person is from another town about 30 minutes from Cold Creek.
The author ties the murder into Sher and Brett’s wedding plans. This makes for more unusual unfoldings. Maddie becomes their wedding planner and now we can watch as she takes charge.
Again there is suspense, some terror, and no apparent motive for the murder. What makes this even odder is Sher has to be part of the team to find her replacement! Weird but true, the other members are Max, Kim, Mitch and one person from another department.
The murder gets solved, the wedding is beautiful and Maddie will be living with them from now on.
Much of the book centered around the wedding preparations and the actual wedding itself with the murder mystery serving more as a secondary or even tertiary sub-plot. Both plotlines actually felt shallow and superficial this time around, not like the suspense generated in the previous entries. The editing errors didn't help it either.
And, considering this was the last of the series, the final lines were not only less than inspiring, they didn't even quite qualify as "mediocre."
As the final book in the series, a expected a great ending. I didn't even get a good ending. The setting of the story in a new location with a new set of characters, just didn't tie the series together. The people you had come to think of as "friends" had little roles in this story. The new characters just didn't develop. The entire story line was far fetched to begin with. As the book to wrap it all up and send our heroine off to a new life, it fell far short. I should of skipped this one.
This is the series finale. I felt it focused more on the proposal, which was SWEET, and the wedding planning by Maddie rather than the murder. It was bittersweet throughout the book as Sheridan prepares to leave Cold Creek.
It wraps up the series but wasn’t truly a cozy mystery. It has a death but I’m not sure there was a strong motive for the death. I will miss this series.
Alyssa Baumann did an outstanding job as the narrator.

A super finish to this series. The discovery of another body disrupts Sheridan and Bretts wedding plans. An enjoyable story well written and with some nice touches. loved Maddie as the slightly manic wedding planner adorable. Great stuff highly recommended cozy mystery series. Narration is excellent. I received a complimentary copy of the audio from the author and am leaving a voluntary honest review
After a run and walk With Brett, Maddie and Sheridan with their dog Charlie started barking and growling. Brett went forward toward where Charlie was barking and he found a man who looked like he was murdered. Read to see why the man was murdered and Brett and Sheridan wedding. I enjoyed reading this story.
Just loved it, it is such a nice cosy mystery and the characters are so well developed and I love their dynamics together. I always like listening to this series when I just want to relax and enjoy a good listen. I love the way it is addictive as you want to know what happens but it is also short so works so well.
You are sure to enjoy this book,as the mystery and romance are sure to keep you reading until the end. Good read and good mystery, once you start you can't put it down!
It was a fun story with an unlikely combination of murder and a wedding. I loved Maddie being involved as the 'wedding planner'. You can't miss if you love a good mystery.
Poor Sheridan can't even book her wedding venue without getting engrossed in a murder at the place. Now she must rush to get things sorted so she can get married in peace. Alyssa Baumann narrates this book well.
This is book 5 in the Sheridan series, and it doesn't disappoint. A murder mystery, but even better is a wonderful conclusion to Brett, Sheridan and Maddie's story. Loved it!
