Police officer Isabelle St. John loves her crazy, loud, law-enforcement family. With three brothers and two sisters, she's never without someone to hang out with--or fight with. And she knows they'll be there for her when things get tough. Like when her partner is murdered and she barely escapes with her own life.
Determined to discover exactly what happened, Izzy's investigation sends her headfirst into a criminal organization, possibly with cops on the payroll--including someone from her own family. With her dead partner's handsome homicide detective brother Ryan shadowing her every move, Izzy's head is spinning. How can she secure justice for her partner when doing so could mean sending someone she loves to prison? And how will she guard her heart when the man she's had a secret crush on for years won't leave her side?
With her signature fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat action, Lynette Eason invites readers into a captivating new series where justice is a family affair.
Lynette Eason grew up in Greenville, SC. She graduated from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, and then obtained her masters in education from Converse College. Author of twenty inspirational romantic suspense books, she is also a member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) and Romance Writers of America (RWA). In 1996, Lynette married "the boy next door" and now she and her husband and their two children make their home in Simpsonville, South Carolina."
Great characterization, tight writing, fast pace, good romance. Can't wait to read future books in this series. Perfect for those who love romantic suspense focused on law enforcement.
As much as I enjoyed the “Elite Guardians” series by Eason, this one is even better! The family dynamics seem like a wonderful cross between the O’Malley books and the Blue Bloods tv show. All six St. John kids went into some form of public service, from law enforcement and FBI to a surgeon. I loved watching the family dynamics play out, and I’m hoping we have a story for all six of the kids.
Isabelle and Ryan are a great couple, with a nice bit of romance and trust that’s written exactly how I love to read romance! Their relationship is clean and based on years of friendship, and it’s plain to see their chemistry even without all those touchy-feely details I really hate reading!
There are a ton of secrets! All sorts of things going on that have to be figured out. I loved the challenge of trying to figure out who/how/why of the bad guys involved in this one! And were they ever bad guys!! Highly recommended.
I’m still not sure exactly what I think of this book. In some ways I really enjoyed it, but on the other hand I don’t know how many time I rolled my eyes or sighed in an “oh brother” way over something.
I did like Izzy and her siblings, though I wished I could have gotten to know them all better. (But perhaps that was the author’s intention so that she could write a book about each one.) I liked the way Izzy kept her friendship with someone even though she was helping an apposing candidate in an election. You don’t see that much. Ryan was sweet, kind, and considerate in spite of all that was happening. Losing two brothers in death would be really hard, and I could sympathize with his parents. I did appreciate that the bit of romance wasn’t the focus of the book, nor did I have to put up with how someone smelled, the electric touches, heat, etc. that so many modern authors think they have to include! This romance felt real and natural. It was refreshing.
This is a Christian book, and I was thankful that it was clean. (Some blood and talk of injuries excluded.) I didn’t have to deal with swear words, or crude comments. However, I would have liked to see a stronger faith in the story. Yes, the characters prayed some, and went to church, but there were so many other times when I thought they would be praying about or during a situation, but it was almost like God was completely forgotten and the characters were relying completely on themselves.
This story was fast paced, and I was expecting that. What I wasn’t expecting, however, was the lack of descriptions. Half the time I wasn’t quite sure what sort of place they were at, or what it looked like. And at least a few times the characters were in a vehicle driving somewhere and then suddenly they were walking, and I had to go back and see if I had missed the car coming to a stop. Nope. I guess the car never stopped. Another thing was that if I didn’t know when an election took place (November), I would have been wondering when during the year the story took place. Perhaps the author mentioned somethings, but they were so brief, they never fully registered and I had to wait until I had finished the book to think about when the story happened. But maybe that was just me. Usually I have no trouble with multiple points of view. I read books like that all the time, but this was as a bit more jarring than others. Several times I had to jog back a couple sentences to see who was talking or thinking when she suddenly switched POV. It wasn’t really bad, but I’ve read better.
Since I don’t know how the police in SC operates (each state does things a little bit differently I’m told), some of the things that bugged me could have been normal for that state.
All in all, I did enjoy the story even though I had figured out the villain before the characters did, and I want to try the second book in this series.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Pre Teens- One Star New Teens- One Star Early High School Teens- Two Stars Older High School Teens- Three Stars My personal Rating- Three Stars (and a half) {Add ½ star for older girls interested in law enforcement} As soon as I opened this novel, I could already feel the adrenaline coming from the pages. I loved that in the opening chapter of this book we’re introduced to all six of the St. John siblings and their people-saving careers. I am so here for strong family relationships in fiction books. After “meeting” her parents, I can totally see were Izzy gets her toughness from. She’s a tough girl who’s been through a lot (and goes through even more during these 340 pages) and I loved her character and reactions. When reading the back-cover, I was hoping that maybe (just maybe) we wouldn’t meet Izzy’s partner, Kevin, because I didn’t want to end up liking him and then he’s dead. But, atlast. We meet him, fall in love with his character, and then our hearts hurt. For the romance aspects of this plot, it was decently light compared to everything that’s happening. There were a few random kisses in the weirdest spots of the plot, in my opinion, though. Overall, I was very happy with the family aspects between both the St. John’s and the Marshall’s, and while this plot isn’t for everyone (I happen to enjoy suspense books, however) and I do wish there was more faith content, I did enjoy this one. I was looking forward to reading Chloe and Hank’s story next, but I am slightly concerned from the teaser about human trafficking mentions; that’s never been a topic I read about well. So, we’ll see as the release date gets closer and more info is released about the plot.
*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author. *I received this book for free from the Publisher (Revell) for this honest review.
I did enjoy this story, though not anywhere near as much as I thought I would. So I’ll start out with the positives.
I enjoyed the storyline for the most part. It was hard to figure out and there were a lot of different things going on, which left for a wild ride. I enjoyed the characters, the sibling element and the family dynamic. I appreciated the idea of an entire family committed to making the world a better place all in their own way, but still as a family unit. There was a lot to be honored in such a family. It did keep me interested for the most part and I enjoyed a clean romance without all of the heat and tingly feelings of what seems to be the norm these days. This kind of romance was way more my speed, a lifelong friendship that slowly turns into something more. I commend Miss Eason for such a story.
My issues with the story lie mainly with the style and the way it was written. There was a LOT of head hopping. And not in a good way. Some writers can get away with it, but this author seemed to have no rhyme or reason to it. It was almost as if the scene breaks were in the wrong place half the time, and the other half, it was just straight up POV error. It made the reading of this book very confusing and I had a hard time keeping up. And while the story was so multifaceted that it was interesting, I felt like it was TOO busy. There was so much going on that I couldn’t keep it all straight and the amount of threads became very overwhelming and somewhat unbelievable in the way that everything connected.
There was also very little character depth. I still don’t know a whole lot about the family or even the main characters personalities. To be honest, a lot of the characters felt personality-less. Half to three quarters of the way through the book and I still was having a hard time knowing who was one of Izzy’s siblings, who was a friend, etc. It just felt really weird. And shallow to an extent. There was little to no character depth for a lot of these people and the emotions were just missing for some scenes. Which worked out okay because I know that is this author’s style, and it did make for a quick read, but to be honest, I wasn’t really that into it.
I guess the style of this book just wasn’t really my cup of tea. I still enjoyed it and I would definitely recommend it if you love suspense with a slight romance. It was a good story, but not one I feel like I would want to read again.
Content Advisory: There was mentions of being held hostage, various gun violence, bombs etc. What you would expect from a modern suspense. There was also a scene where part of someone’s
If you like warm fuzzy romance stories this book is sure not for you, with nonstop action from the beginning to the end, and don’t get too comfortable in your shoes, you won’t see who wants to wear them. The author starts this book with the murder of fellow officer Isabella St. John’s partner, and lifelong family friend, Kevin. From there the violence goes downhill, and why, we soon find out, or maybe it takes to the very end to learn, and most you won’t see coming. So, it is the rival gangs, an old “boyfriend”, a friend, the list goes on and on, maybe your brother, or mother. There has to be a reason, and when we find out, just wow! Once you start this one, you will have to get to the end to learn the answers, and I for one love the epilogue, better allow additional time! I received this book through the Revell Blogger Program, and was not required to give a positive review.
I was so impressed with this novel! The author did a great job of making me feel as if I was right there with these characters as they faced off against incredible odds.
The heartache that Izzy and Ryan both had to live through as the story began really set the pace for the heart of this book. Both of these characters had to work through the hurt that they were feeling, while trying to work their way through a maze of information to determine who was behind the murder of Izzy’s partner and best friend, who also happened to be Ryan’s brother.
This book has it all: intense emotion, lots of danger and suspense, and a gentle romance between two characters who I couldn’t help but love.
Once I got over my initial frustration of the similarities of the family of law enforcement to the tv show ‘Blue Bloods’ I really enjoyed this story.
Fast pace, lots of suspense with twists and turns and a great introduction to interesting characters. What more do you want in a good law enforcement story?
Great start to a new series. Lynette Eason is definitely becoming a reliable favourite of mine.
I give 5 stars to Callie Beaulieu for an excellent engaging audio performance.
Recommended to all those who like Christian suspense fiction :)

Where do I begin with reviewing this book? This book was amazing! I was it could go on forever, this was my first cop/suspense book and it most defiantly will not be my last! I have no idea why I have never read this type of book before. These books always keep you on your toes and they get your heart pounding with worry and fear for the characters that you have grown to love. This book made a bundle of emotions. It wasn't as much of a roller coaster of emotions as it was in Isaiah's Daughter but this book just made me want to jump into the book and comfort Ryan and Izzy.
This book was about a young cop named Isabella (Izzy), she and her partner were at a stack out because he had recently got a lead on something that was going to be going down during that particular night. Being a young, ambitious cop, Kevin Marshall decided that he was going to go into the warehouse in order to catch what the men were doing. Izzy tried to stop him, but he was to stubborn to listen. As a result to him ambitiousness, he was shot and later died at the hospital.
At the crime site, Ryan Marshall rushed over to where his brother and Izzy were. Izzy was crying because she had just witnessed the potential death of her partner and best friend. Ryan vowed that he would catch his brothers killer. Ryan and Izzy teamed up to track down and catch the men responsible for the death of Kevin. With being around Izzy so much, Ryan's feelings started to get stronger. Little did he know that Izzy was feeling the exact same way.
After a whole bunch of near death experiences and plot twists. They finally came to find out who truely was behind all the chaos. They finally were able to put a stop to the people behind the death of Kevin and others.
This book really makes me want to go and visit cops and thank them for all they do to protect us! Many people these days are always hating on cops and saying that they are terrible. I would just like to say that, yes there have been some cases when the cop should not have killed that person, but we are all HUMANS!! We all make mistakes, I know that killing someone is a rather HUGE mistake but if they think they see a gun or some kind of weapon they are taught to shot and kill. As much as I would love to be a cop. I personally could never do it. I am very appreciative of cops but I could not do it.
Things I loved about this book:
1. The faith. Both the St. John's and the Marshall's are christian, so seeing their faith throughout this book. Their faith is one of the things that kept them going, even though they most defiantly struggled with things especially after the death of Kevin, they still kept the faith and trusted God.
2. The Romance. The romance in this book was rather low-key but it still was a simple, sweet romance between Ryan and Izzy. I was happy with the ending of this book when it came to the romance between them!
3. The action. Oh man as I said before this book kept me on my toes. I also had my heart thumping in my chest a few of the parts. If you like books with a lot of action and near death experiences. By all means read the book and find out what I am talking out!
4. Ryan Marshall. I loved this main character. He was great, even though he was angry and sad about his brother's death, he still knew his place in the investigation. He knew what to do and what not to do. His concern for Izzy made this book all the better, he was concerned about her nearly the entire book. The great thing was is that it wasn't an over-board of protectiveness it was just enough that it was sweet.
5. This book is just so great overall!! I would recommend this to everyone who is over the age of 13, the only reason why I say 13 is just because of some of the violence. It was a little bloody but because I have seen a lot of marvel and cop shows/movies it was fine for me, but it all depends on how you stomach semi-graphic shootings and action.
This is my advice to you. Go to your local bookstore and go on amazon and buy this book! Or you can even go to the library (it's free that way). Just please go read it and I hope that you will love it as much as I did.
*I received this book from Revell Books, in exchange for my honest option on this book. All thoughts are my own.*
Dagnabbitall. What do I do with this. I am so incredibly divided on how I feel about this book.
First off, if you're gonna write a strong, female hero, this is the way to do it. This chicky was a BA without ever sacrificing her femininity or kindness. I can get behind Lynette Eason's take on her female protags. Also, I want that dog. Mozart was the unsung hero of this book as far as I'm concerned.
But I have to be honest, I struggled on the cliché dialogue with this one. The info dumping and canned phrasing was hard to get around. I constantly felt pulled out of the pace of the story and critiquing the conversations. I wish I had pulled a few sentences as examples, but suffice to say, they did not feel realistic in the least.
I enjoyed some of the story twists. Halfway through the book, I wasn't really feeling all the rabbit trailing storylines, but they started pulling together nicely in the end so you found they actually were relevant. I was satisfied with that aspect.
Some of the mental health was drastically under-researched which likely wouldn't bother the average reader. Just a pet peeve of mine.
I liked her family dynamic.
Some of the writing felt loose and vague. For example, in one scene two characters are talking and watching a musician play music (I forget the setting). The line literally said something along the vein of, "They sipped their drinks and listened to a musician play a song." Really though? Not, "She took a pull from her coke, ice cubes tinkling, and listened to the Johnny Cash look-alike croon to 'Folsom Prison.'" I don't know...color the scene a bit, maybe? It felt flat. Like she drew the pictures, but never colored them in.
I don't regret reading this book, but I just didn't engage enough to continue with the next one in the series. I may give this author another chance in the future though.
I'd rate this a PG-13 for some scenes of peril and blood/violence.
First off, can we talk about this cover? I. Adore. It. I, of course, had to have the paperback. And after I ordered it, I camped in front of my mailbox for two days until it arrived. (The benefits of Amazon Prime . . .)
The characters. Right away, I loved Izzy and her crazy, awesome family. The banter between the siblings throughout reminding me of my own large, crazy family. Izzy was a very sweet, relatable character. Ryan was also great, and I loved his storyline and character arc. I feel like overall, the characters were a little lacking, but I still greatly enjoyed it. The focus was a lot more on the story than the characters, and since I'm such a character-person, I was a little disappointed.
The story was fabulous, and kept you guessing until the very last second. I really didn't want one of Izzy's family members to be dirty, and I'm so glad they weren't! I could not put this book down, and finished it in less than 24 hours. So so good! There was never a slow moment.
All in all, I really enjoyed Eason's newest release! Highly recommended!
CONTENT NOTE: Recommended for ages 16+ for violence and mature themes. There is quite a bit of violence and peril, as you would expect from a suspense book. Characters are attacked, held at gunpoint or knifepoint, almost thrown off buildings, etc. The MC non-sexually assaulted in the past, which was extremely traumatic. There is also some romance, attraction, etc.
The Blue Justice series is going to be fantastic from start to finish, if this book is any clue. The family dynamics are the best thing about this story, though that isn't to say other stuff isn't also good. The intricacies of the plot, various story arcs, and the many characters that played major roles in the story were all well pulled together. I really appreciated the faith thread and the great amount of action scenes: two things I look for in Christian suspense books. Ms. Eason's author voice has grown stronger through the years, and it seems like this series has the potential to be her best yet. (I hate to say that, because I loved her Women of Justice series so much, but it might be time for me to claim a new favorite of her series. Maybe. I'm waiting to read the full series to decide for sure.)
Content: * a few partial expletive phrases (the actual expletive words were not used, but they popped in my head at the lead-in part of the phrases that were there) * a couple of sexual analogies * one grisly image

I love the twists that just kept coming! I figured a couple of them out a little before they happened, but not all. Eason's friend/family groups are what are keeping me coming back!
This is definitely my favorite of all of Lynette Eason's books that I've read so far!
I loved the history that most of the characters had with each other, including and especially the romantic leads. It was such a refreshing break from the usual sudden, unexplainable attraction followed by sharing intensely personal thoughts and secrets with someone you barely know. Along with that--or maybe because of it--the romance was very low-key, which I really liked. Izzy and Ryan were attracted to each other, but they were so comfortable with each other and had such a foundation of trust built up that they just felt natural and right together without the need to constantly dwell on their feelings.
The romantic angle didn't take away from the suspense/mystery at all but faded nicely into the background during the tense parts of the investigation, which I appreciated a lot. The suspense angle was definitely well done with more hair-breadth escapes than any single person should ever have to experience! Portions of the mystery did seem a little overly coincidental to me, and I had a hard time figuring out why the officers chose to follow up on certain clues and not others. I'm still unclear on how exactly Ryan figured out that tracking down more information on Chris's unit and his friends was going to help find the guy who owned the warehouse--just because the mother of the last owner happened to have a picture of her son and Chris together? It didn't quite make sense to me, but then, I'm not a detective. ;) Most of the details were kept non-graphic, but we did see some up-close and personal violence, including deaths.
I loved the big, teasing St. John family, although it would have been fun to see a bit more of them, especially of the whole family together. The chemistry between them was really well done, and I especially liked their protectiveness when one of them was hurt or in danger. I look forward to reading more about them in the following books!
And since it's a sibling story and I can't help it, I'll just mention one minor aggravation--I can't figure out where Ruthie belongs in the birth order! The rest I can at least put in order, but I can't find if or where it's mentioned for her. Not sure why I need to know that, but I do...
Action packed suspense. Great family dynamics. Expectation for a great series by a favourite author.
Lynette Eason is an author whose books I buy without really reading what they are about - I just always know I will love it. This book was no exception.
I adored the St John family. Their interactions was great and you can just feel the love and support for each other through the words on the pages. Looking forward to their series - expecting to love it like I did with the O’Malley and Baxter families.
Izzie and Ryan - I just loved each of them individually but more so together. Because of their friendship history, the love relationship was sweet and rooted for. I also love how in Lynette Eason’s books the love story plays second fiddle to the suspense. I love books which focus more on the suspense.
The suspense plot - oh wow, from the shooting to the end - it was intriguing with so much going on! The twists and turns added to the suspense. I did guess one person involved correct halfway but so many other twists through me. The action scenes were also very descriptive it was easy to visualize - some scenes did feel a teensy bit from like a scene from Alias (bit unrealistic) but still loved it.
I'm pretty invested in Lynette Eason books at this point...lol...while I enjoyed the Elite Guardian series more, this one was a good book, too!
Characters: Izzy was determined and nice, a bit stubborn, and thus felt a bit...not reckless...but as if she wasn't taking the situation as seriously as she should in regards to her own safety. Ryan was great! And I loved with Izzy calling him Ry! So cute! Honestly, my heart broke for him, and I wanted to run a fist through a few characters' faces for him. Derek was cool! Honestly, I was pretty upset when I read the blurbs for the other books and realized Derek doesn't get his own book...so unfair. It's just so unfair. All the St.John kids get one, but he doesn't. *crosses arms* itself almost enough to make me stop reading the series...
Themes: God is there with us every step of the way... but this book definitely focused more on the suspense element and just asked God to lead or help with a situation.
Language: N/A
Romance: Brief kisses. We'll handled.
Overall: There is a scene where a character gets shot in the face, and that description is a bit...bleh...but not overall described. Blood is mentioned as well as a flab of flesh... but then the story moves past it. Other than that, this was a action packed story, and I'm interested in reading the next book because of the dog...lol... Hank, how can I say no to a dog?
Lynette has done it again! Just when I think her books can't possibly get any better, they do! Oath of Honor reaffirms why Lynette is on my list of all time favorite authors. I loved both Izzy and Ryan as main characters and it was a lot of fun to watch their romance develop. And I just have to say that as a fan of the show Blue Bloods, I have been so excited about the similarities between it and this series ever since I first heard the Blue Justice series was going to happen, and now after reading Oath of Honor I can say that I loved all the similarities to Blue Bloods, but I also loved that the Blue Justice series is a unique story and brings something all its own to the table! And by the way I am in love with the St. John family, so I CANNOT WAIT to read Chloe's story when it releases later this year! I don't know how many books are planned for this series but I have my fingers crossed that each of the six siblings will get a book, because I simply don't want to say goodbye to this family anytime in the near future! And the suspense, gah, soooo good, Lynette's books never fail to get my adrenaline pumping and bring me to the edge of my seat, and Oath of Honor just may be her best yet! I don't know want to risk giving anything away so let me just finish by saying that I absolutely loved this book, it will be on my list of favorite reads from 2018, and needless to say I HIGHLY recommend it! Seriously, you MUST read Oath of Honor, ASAP!
I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher, which did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.
I really enjoyed this one. It took me about two chapters to get into it, but once it started rolling, it really didn't stop. Sometimes it was maybe over-the-top with action and Izzy's life being in danger.
The romance was actually sweet--not pushy or possessive or fleshly-driven. There was a backstory about one character's obsessive love, but it actually wasn't what I expected it to be--very calm and clean (I mean, not "calm" but nothing like him taking advantage of her).
The characters were Christians, but it really wasn't one of those books where they learned an invaluable lesson. They just... sought God and tried to trust in Him. In my opinion, it would have been an awesome book if Lynette could have slipped in a powerful Christian message.
The mystery was fantastic, in my opinion. I didn't catch who was behind everything until right before the ending, so I liked that.
I'm trying to talk myself into whether this is four or five stars. I really enjoyed it too much to put it as four stars. It was well-written, it wasn't a serial killer book (which is one of the main things I didn't care for in Lynette's last book I read), and the romance wasn't too much. Yeah, I'm just resting on five stars because I really liked it.
Eason's newest series starts off with actions, thrills, and plenty of suspense. This series features the St. John family who are all involved in law enforcement in one way or another. The three brothers and three sisters are close, loud and crazy but have each others' backs whenever there is a problem. This book stars police officer, Isabella St. John, whose mother just happens to be the chief of police. When Izzy's partner, Kevin, is killed and she barely escapes with her life, she is determined to find his killer. But Kevin's brother, Ryan, a homicide detective, is just as determined to find the killer so teams up with Izzy.
This book has edge-of-your-seat action from start to finish. Suspense, mystery, dirty cops, and a bit of romance made this an all around great read. You'll want to jump right into the next book which stars Izzy's sister, Chloe, who is a K-9 cop.
This is the first book in the Blue Justice series. It is fast paced and full of action, with suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved the family and the focus on law enforcement. Really looking forward to the next in the series.
Ok . . . this book fairly flew for me. Having read Ruthie's story in book 2.5, I was somewhat familiar with the St. John family, but really enjoyed this introductory story. I liked how both Izzy and Ryan were determined to figure out who had killed Kevin, and why, and the twists and turns that brought this book to the satisfying conclusion had me flipping pages quickly. I also enjoyed the faith element of the book. Though it wasn't as strong as in other books, the characters were shown to live out their faith through prayer and seeking to follow God's plans for their lives.
4.5* YAY! I really enjoyed this; it was exactly what I was looking for when I was feeling contemporary-suspense-y! The suspense, the mystery, and fast-paced writing of everything got me invested (and goodness, the partner's death was completely heartbreaking :( ). I loved the characters, though part of me wished to have been more connected with them... but it was more suspense-driven, so it didn't bug me. :p I'm definitely going to be reading more from this author.
Warning! This book is filled with nail biting suspense. What a thriller! I'm worn out. Every page is filled with action. This book is for any suspense/thriller fan who likes romance thrown in too. My only problem? I have to wait until the summer for the next installment. This book was a great start to a new series. *I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. My review is my honest opinion.
Oath of Honor — Blue Justice series #1 By: Lynette Eason Narrator: Callie Beaulieu Format: Audiobook Main characters: Isabelle (Izzy) St. John: 27-year old officer Ryan Marshall: 30ish detective and brother of Izzy's slain partner Derek St. John: Izzy's detective twin brother on his own undercover assignment
After seeing her partner gunned down at their stakeout, and possibly glimpsing her twin brother at the scene, Izzy St. John goes out on innumerable dangerous limbs to identify and catch those responsible. But there was no way Ryan (her partner’s brother) would let her do any of it alone. Seeing justice for Kevin’s murder was a mission he had to be a part of.
There are unending plot twists where the reader doesn’t know who the bad guys are, nor whose life is in danger next throughout the book. It had me guessing and surprised at every turn. Suspenseful and fast-paced, but had a sweet element of protectiveness and caring between Izzy and Ryan without being overdone at all. I love that the relationship didn’t exceed a few comfort embraces and one almost imperceptible kiss until there was a story resolution. Romances during death threats and adrenaline rushing scenes always seem so forced. Good job Ms. Eason, as usual.
This was a Tantor audio-version of the book and Callie Beaulieu was the narrator. Probably one of the best I’ve ever heard. This woman can make you forget she’s just reading the book!!! She makes you feel everything, with the exact right emotion in every part. I was truly in awe.
Dedicated to the men and women in blue. To all of the law enforcement workers who risk everything to keep us safe.
I loved everything about this book, from the moment it started it just clicked with me and I'm so grateful for stories like that. We get to meet Izzy and her siblings right away and it was wonderful :) Then something happens to Izzy's partner and childhood best friend, Kevin, and I cried for two chapters. The writing is just that good and it only gets better as the plot thickens! I was truly amazed at how the author illustrates the reality of being an officer and the risks involved while still being respectful of those who really do this for a living, all through the eyes of Izzy and her incredible family. A real page turner, lots of violence well told (only two scenes had my heart stop, one was an explosion that felt TOO real and one was a sniper), one brave woman who will stop at nothing to find her partner's killer, and a tiny bit of romance :) LOVED the ending also, brilliant writing from start to finish!
My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book. The thoughts and opinion are entirely my own.
Romantic suspense isn’t my favorite genre because the romance always seems to be eye-rolling KU cheesy. That wasn’t the case here and I was so relieved! I really liked this book! It reminded me a lot of the tv show Blue Bloods (but better since I don’t really like the show lol). Looking forward to the rest of the series.
I enjoyed the mystery, and I found the characters to be likable. It was a bit heavier than my previous experience with Eason’s books, but I think it worked well for this story!
