Eric Dunst is lost and without a purpose. He's a man who once felt both hope and love but now struggles to find a reason to continue with his dull life. In another world, a young woman named Aeia is stuck in a living hell where showing even the slightest of emotions can lead to her destruction. Little do they know that their paths will cross. They both will get thrown into a conflict and be implored to fight for those unable to resist their oppressors. It may not be their battle. For Eric, it is not even his people. But when the Nobles who control the resources hoard it all for themselves, who else can fight but those who exist outside their rules?
This is one of those late night reading, chore ignoring, kind of books. I struggled to put it down. As I neared the end I was disappointed it was almost over, all the while rushing to find out what happens next.
I enjoyed all the twists and turns the story took. Just when I thought I had the story line figured out, something unexpected would happen. Goyer did a wonderful job developing his characters.
I read very little sci-fi, but this was one of the easiest for me to understand. In another novel large chunks may as well of been a foreign language because I was lost. My only hope is that Goyer is currently working on a sequel.
*There are multiple grammatical errors in the book, but it's still a fascinating read.
This first book by fledgling author Nathan Goyer is a must read if you like science fiction or fantasy and love God. From the beginning to the end I had a tough time putting it down,( which can be problematic since my family prefers food and clean clothing). The first in a series of books to come, this was a good start. I look forward to his next book!
