The fall of the eleventh city was what shook the earth but it was mankind who brought the world to its knees. In a world over stretched in population and resources, the skies were meant to be the greatest beacon for innovation and freedom. The flying cities were constructed in a time of need driven by hope, and fueled by ambition. The end results; however, cast an unintentional shadow upon those still making a home below. While the world above flourished the surface where mankind originated decayed into wasteland. This is a story of a wanderer name Wallflower, a package named lace and their journey to move on and confront the echoes of mankind's past. Out there the best way to solve a disagreement is with a good old fashioned bullet. Up in the skies or on the ground, it doesn't matter, one can't clean up a mess without making a bigger one first.
T.J. Lockwood is an author, artist and podcast host who has a special place in her heart for Speculative Fiction. Her writings include everything from futuristic worlds to a jellyfish who just wants to show the world his magic. She enjoys leveling up her skills in both virtual and physical realms, walking in Vancouver rain, doodling comics, and rambling about stories of any medium.
Wooh! This one is really a wild card in by the author but that also on the bull's eye. I have to say that TJ is really developed herself in the Science-Fiction queen. But here is one weird imagination that I got in my mind, that if TJ will write a romance story, I'm sure that she can't leave her Sci-Fi genre behind, so how she'll merge the two genres. Ha! Ha! Ha!
Very interesting story developed around strong characters who holds the story really well and the interest and excitement is just the added bonus to all.
Violent Skies appeals to the science fiction lover in me. It's a book that reads like a literary Mad Max exploration. Author T.J. Lockwood writes in all of the imagination that this genre deserves and delivers the first science fiction/fantasy novel I've truly enjoyed in months. I will look forward to more work from this promising author..
While I usually prefer my science fiction reading to fall a bit more on the optimistic side, there are exceptions to everything, and this sharp and gritty debut novel from T.J. Lockwood stands out in all the right ways.
Violent Skies delivers a vividly dystopian world of flying (and once-flying) cities, nanobot addiction, and factions with conflicting interests. The strong female narrator/protagonist is a courier with a hidden purpose and layers of complexity that are slowly revealed as the story progresses. The intricate and well-thought-out technology supports the plot and world, and I found the use of biotechnology particularly interesting.
Overall, this is an engaging read, perfect for readers of darker science fiction — don’t expect any fluffy romance or uplifting inspirational messages. There’s some violence, so it’s probably not well suited for younger teens.
