“To lie is not only cowardly, it is also degrading. It humiliates you and makes you unclean in your own eyes. What is more, a lie is invariably found out.” Upon her father’s death Mimosa’s life becomes a masquerade. She assumes her kidnapped cousin Minerva’s identity and sets establishes herself in her Tunisian villa. When she is blackmailed by a French count out to steal her cousin’s fortune, dashing English duke and archeologist Alrock sweeps her off her feet and into the ruins of Thurburo Maius. Mimosa’s true identity is revealed when she strips down to her bodice and muslin to scare off marauders as ghost of the Temple of Jupiter. Mimosa and the duke flee the country and live happily ever after. A simplistic story rescued by its splendid setting.
One of my biggest faves from Cartland. This book made me want to visit Thuburbo Majus myself. :P When it comes to Cartland's books then obviously romance part is my absolute fave. Especially those happy endings, last pages. But i also love how she tells about cities/countries, historical buildings or events, historical characters etc. I love how she intertwines(?) those/them in her stories.
Shallow plot. Shallow characters. I guess a person can put out 147 books if this is the kind of work they do. This one was set in Tunisia...that is why I was reading it. I did get a little flavor of Tunisia...a very little.
