on this two year journey to the mooni found myself and came back down to earthwith glitter in my hairstardust in my shoes,a strength in my souland a story worth telling
That's... kinda all I have to say about this collection.
Actually, no, there's more. Like: I'm so glad that I'm an English major, and understand and see the use of things like rhyme, and repetition, and alliteration. I'm glad I can appreciate what that does to pacing in a poem, or in prose poetry. I'm glad I know all of these things so I can understand just how potent and deliberate every last word in this collection truly was.
Much of the modern poetry I read has a lot to do with emotions. Emotions are quick, they cut and parry and vanish before moving on. The collection lingers more with descriptions, similes and metaphors that go above and beyond anything I've read since Romantic poetry.
I think I would have been happy with that, even had there not been any kind of story thread running throughout, happy with the beauty of the words alone. But, no, there was more. There was love and pain and heartbreak but MORE THAN THAT there was the sense of appreciation for time spent together and shared, the meeting of people who may not be forever in each others' lives, but enriched while they were together.
And, honestly, I can't even get enough of that as a theme. I already want to read this again.
I enjoyed taking the journey with the author through the pages of this book. I could feel the experiences as they were my own. Although I could relate to a number of the poems personally, specifically, I connected very strongly with the Girls Like Me series. Loved it!
I freaking love this book. It's powerful, passionate, and flows in a way that captivates you. It draws you in as if it's the very thing you need to breath and even when you put it down, you can't help but ache to pick it back up again.
This collection is about heart break, self love and the process of understanding yourself. It isn't perfect - I felt as though a lot of the interwoven stories segments needed editing or weren't as strong as Kaliane's poetry, but this is a collection of pure emotion and strength. I loved the poems which explored Kaliane's resistance to societal expectations - the responses were witty and sharp. I think Kaliane is a great writer and one whom I'd love to read more of.
a book is an automatic 5 star when you have 21 kindle bookmarks, a song suggestion to go along with the book, and a poem you wrote inspired by the book right?
i'm not one for reading 100 page poetry books, i am working on that, but i really enjoyed this one i read it on both my kindle and amazon's cloud reader. it was wonderful and this author is so talented. i of course loved the space metaphors and the rawness of a lot of the pieces.

in conclusion i recommend this wonderful book to anyone who love space metaphors, fairytale metaphors, self love poems or is on the long journey to loving themselves.
This was youth and innocence twisted into growing up in the ways we don’t want to… but it’s the way many, many, of us have. The themes of toxicity, abuse, love, self-hate all roped together are something we all seem to know. To relate to. To write about. We nod and grip the pages extra tight, feeling like we are sitting right next to the author. Supporting each other.
Faye's debut poetry collection was both heartbreaking and uplifting - certainly glad to have it in my collection.
My favorite pieces from this were: rain isn't as romantic as they tell you, white hot lies, it hurts but it heals, toxic masculinity, beauty cannot be sold or bought, it just is, and we are hurricanes.
"People care way too much about what others do with their bodies and that makes me uncomfortable in my own." A lovely collection of poetry and prose--a couple of my favorites were "Bodies" and "Lost Identity." Short and sweet poems that left an impact on me.
When your best friend writes a book you prepare yourself to fib a little and say you loved it when in reality it wasn't that great... But that was not the case this time! I genuinely loved Moonrise. I often found myself sobbing, because she not only touched my heart but my soul at the same time! the poems that i personally love the most would have to be An Unskilled Sailor(my most favorite), Unfinished Business, and Asking You To Stay! Those are my top three among the many others i love. if you're thinking of purchasing Moonrise i highly suggest doing so. You'll get to connect with Kaliane Through pain, love, loss and that moment when you finally realize you're better than this. I couldn't help but fall in love with her mind and i'm sure you will to. Thank you Kaliane for this marvelous poetry collection. i'm looking forward for the next/.
