THE GIFT OF A WASHINGTON, D.C MURDER

In Washington, D.C., Naim Butler’s defense strategy takes him to the highest reaches of criminal justice—and political scandal.

Seemingly out of the blue, Naim Butler receives a most desirable challenge to defend a psychopath in a capital murder situation. It seems that his lawyer-sleuth talents are wanted for a particular sensitive case. He’s pleased to discover that he’ll be joined by his partner in crime, in and out of bed, newspaper editor, Brandy Scott.

In the exclusive world to Washington politics, cover-ups and back door deals often go hand-in-hand with private fantasies and corruption. As Naim’s investigation takes him to the multimillion-dollar homes of the city’s elite in Georgetown to the United States District Courthouse, it becomes evident that even suited, insiders-only Washington upper crust has a scandalous side that its top figures want to keep quiet.

Not on Naim Butler’s watch!

It is classed as romantic suspense, but it didn’t really feel like a romance, not to me. It was more focused on the political/crime side than the relationship. Which is what made me keep on reading, I am not one for the romance side of things.

The crime side of things left you going ‘What is going to happen now?’ ‘Is he crazy or not…’. It hooked you in. You wanted to find out his end goal. Not going to lie with the political side of things, I had no clue. I am not American so I don’t really follow their system. I got what was going on but at the same time, I didn’t know the finer details. This didn’t take away anything from the book.

I didn’t really expect Naim to defend a murderer. I was surprised by that side of things. It added another unknown element to the mix.

An excellent follow up and more interesting than book 1, which largely introduced the main characters.

Naim Butler is summoned by the US president to the capital to defend a murderer. Not just any killer. The man allegedly killed a Supreme Court Justice and Senator and the people want him on a silver platter. But due process and a proper defense is a denizen’s right and it’s Naim sworn duty to protect that for the killer, forcing him to battle with the Washington, DC elite.

This is a book that seems so closely connected to the current political climate much like James Patterson’s and Bill Clinton’s book, THE PRESIDENT IS MISSING.

Just a delightful—fictional—book covering Washington.

Excellent follow-up and even better than book one. Rahiem really shows off his research and knowledge of the Washington, D.C. swamp and criminal law. A great read.

The second insulation in the Naim Butler series has returned with another suspense. I received the ARC in an ebook format from the publisher.

I seemed to be in a fog throughout the story as to what was the character’s thoughts.

At some point in the novel I stopped keeping up with the characters or caring and just pressed on to finish the book.

There is so many grammatical errors that made my reading very difficult and not enjoyable. I hope that it was all corrected in it’s final publication.

I read Brooks’ previous story, “The Butler Christmas”, which was not an enjoyable read to me either, but it was more comprehensive than this one.

Brooks’ constant use of acronyms is muddling to say the least, and the ending felt unfinished. It’s evident that I am not a fan of Brooks, but I would like to see his writing mature and maybe one of his novels will “wow” me.
